I met some great people here. you are all made of stars, etc.

2009 has seen a lot of change, trauma, death, and readjustment. Also, accidental kittens. They are cute. I am jumping ship with the bagel shop and going to try to float on my painting. We'll see. There is little resemblance left to what I had up here. That is neither here nor there. Also, as there is nothing left here to bear testament, the entire preceding phrase has been rendered absolutely meaningless. That which does not currently exist has never existed at all. All is here or nothing.

Anyways, barring this, my next option is to give up all worldy goods and sail around the world. I have to wait for Ernie to die first, I think.

check that out, but not at night. lol, it scared the HELL out of me last night. Don't miss the videos of the rooms in the house, especially the stable. They don't mention it, but there is clearly a face looking in the window, with glowing eyes, and the figure of a little girl can be seen standing in the corner near the end of the sweep.

Also, the EVP they have on the site is some of the most convincingly... creepy... I've heard. Usually you hear that shit and its like "...uh... yeah, not so much".

The music available by the Secret Method is beautiful and creepy, and worth listening to.

so. good, TRUE, creep-as-fuck ghost story AND free music. DOES IT GET ANY BETTER FOLKS?

Time. (the basic questions--what is it? Is it continuous? Exxon's favorite, 'define a moment')

There's plenty of science fiction and pop culture out there about stopping time. Some of it even pretends to have done research. Imagine that. So, here's my question. If and when time is stopped, how do you measure the phenomenon. IE: how can you be sure that it is not just the timeKEEPER that has been stopped, rather than time itself. We have many instruments of time keeping, some more sophisticated than others, some more oblique/occult.

So.

Time stops. Or does it? Do the forces which cause our time keepers to indicate changes in time's speed/regularity (gravity, temperature, motion) in fact cause the instrument to indicate an actual 'time event'?

Well, wait a second, what about all those uber realistic movies, in which all the people get frozen when time stops?

Living cells are, in my opinion, just another delicate instrument of measuring time, not manifestations of time itself. Ergo (fancy latin word for 'therefore') you can't mistake a weathercock for the wind, even though it is acted upon externally by the wind, etc.

See what I mean? Tell me, what would be a convincing test to indicate that time itself was being effect, and not just the instruments of measurement?

not dead yet. Just... distracted. I let my art lapse because I've run into a wall concerning Cisco. Whatever. I'm working on it. Besides, I haven't been putting the effort into completing things like I should.

I dunno. I put everything on hold to make money to get space to do art, and in the meantime, I'm not doing art. Squidgy didn't sell, so the good news is I have a racehorse, and the bad news is I really can't afford to buy a house now. Horses. Pah. Maryland. Pah!

I don't really care for shows, accolade, attention, or even selling my art. This is a problem, but not a huge one. I think what needs to happen is to get back into philosophy. Exxon can be overseas and I can take my moped to visit cool people. There you go.

mid vacation update. Despite the fact that the pilot was reading the instruction manual as he tried to take off (worst flight ever) on the way to texas, I made it. It's fun staying at my sister's hotel--its like I own the place.

Lisa and I have been having some sort of impromptu vampire-a-thon. Had to rewatch underworld to see underworld two (that was three hours of my life I'm never getting back) and early-morning Van Helsing viewing in Lisa's parent's winebago. Man, that movie still cracks me up. Now I'm hooked on that anime Hellsing. nnnngh! anime! I shake my fist at it.

well, I have sucessfully doodled and painted crap, and the vacation isn't even half over, so I feel fairly successful. Hmm, should find a scanner.

hmmm, word is severe weather coming (yay!). Man, I missed texas. And, if any of you know of the Grapevine area.... how about that Gaylord. That shit's really... something. word on the street is it was gonna be an Opryland, but Dolly Parton pulled out.

well, as of today I am off work for the next 8 days (omg). I get to proctor my dad's nuclear phys exam tomorrow, and have finally decided on an extra credit question. Sure, I was gonna ask something douglas adams related, but since they movie-fied hitchhiker's guide, it just ain't the same. Then I was gonna ask something about 2001, but that's a little dated, and like, if I was taking the exam, I'd be annoyed if the extra credit question was entirely extraneous. Besides, what kind of knowledge base can I expect these guys (mostly practicing engineers working towards their masters) to have? SHould they be expected to know who Hal is?

anyways, the question is 'what color is radiation?' and yes, there is an answer.

well, that should be fun. I guess.

also, on sunday, I'm flying back to texas to hang out with my sister and some of the crazy cats from my hs days. HOT. I'm going to have a television and like, no horses to feed. It's gonna be big fun.

regarding the 'penis' issue on DA:

we have at least one, usually two to three images of nude women on the daily deviations EVERY DAY. and when you read down through their comments, you never see people commenting things like "I will never understand why anyone would photograph ..." etc.

right so... I had this wacky dream today. I don't remember all the details, but Kovacs (from the richard K morgan books) and poldarn (from 'Shadow') and Jones were all the same person, and he worked at Bagelmeister with the Snow Queen from Narnia. They kept taking smoking breaks and pissing me off, because I'm the manager and I take my work far too seriously. Uhm. And the snow queen kept trying to kill Jones/Kovacs/poldarn, which was also pissing me off. I think I wrote her up.

listening to the new Coheed and Cambria cd on my way home from Target tonight. Man, I hit song 8 and I couldn't stop laughing.

12. What is on the walls of the room you are in?

lots of masking tape where all my work fell off the walls last summer, and I haven't even tried to put it back up. A framed painting by ~pigeonrat and a drawing of Hare by ~ryuuko. Also some assorted drawings/paintings that haven't fallen off yet. Nothing new.

hm. probably. uhm. can't remember off hand. no ghosts, at any rate.

I just spent a gazillion bucks on a printing press! yes! of my very own. Who hasn't coveted their neighbor's printing press before? It's ok, you can admit it. Anyways, since I have that monster arriving any day now, I had to get my ass motivated and clear out the junk in the storage building at the barn, so now I've got a studio! Holy crap! All I need are some lights, carpet, a heater, moveable canvas walls, uhm... and like, lots of other things. I also bought a cool easel, so I'm all official and shit.

anyhow, I'm going to try to clean up the old barracks at the barn and make myself a studio space so I can do printmaking and oil painting. I want to try to sell shit, but I'm having trouble creatively finding venues for shite. It seems easier if you do hardcore furry art, you just go to cons right? The most obvious solution is craft shows but... yeah, I'm just not feeling the craft show audience vibe. How well do you think a bunch of my shit is going to go over next to papermache crucifixes and dried floral arrangements in the shape of hearts?

I dunno, maybe I'm missing the boat here. I think the real reason I haven't fixed tht space up yet is because it seems so goddamn pointless. Yeah, I gotta do art for myself, and it's fulfilling up to a point, but just being surrounded by the same shit I've done all the time is stultifying. I need to get RID of it, to make mental room to make new stuff. Is anyone else depressed because they can't throw out the old stuff, but they can't give it away either? Some things I need to keep, because they've still got things to say, but ninety percent of this shit has GOT to GO.

uhm.

goddamn what the hell is interesting?

1) Jones told me I would be tagged on DA today, around noon actually. He is generally very accurate in making short term predictions about the future regarding things that make absolutely no difference. Sometimes, however, he says useful things, such as "take an umbrella today" or "your car keys are underneath that pile of dirty dishes. No not that one, the one over there on the chair. No the OTHER CHAIR. Jesa."

2) Today, as I was driving to the barn, I decided I was a communist. Upon further reflection, however, I decided that might just be the effect of the nice fall weather and Cisco's company. I don't know what it is about the leaves turning, but it makes me unwilling to bend to any authority not entrenched in solid good sense.

3) Ethics are extremely important to me. Also, ethics are not morals. The two are very very distinct.

4) Morals make me angry sometimes. I usually end up ranting to the horses, or Jones if he's within earshot. Most other people leave after a few minutes. Jerks.

5) I think I am probably a very difficult person to get to know irl. And, more than that, a difficult person to get along with. I find it best not to volunteer any more information than is absolutely necessary, especially regarding opinions. This goes back to the morals thing.

6) I love etymology. That has nothing to do with insects, you're thinking of entymology. Silly you.

7) My last employer told me that I was a very angry person, that I didn't like horses, that I was abusive, and that I should seek therapy. I told her I couldn't stay and talk any longer, I had to go beat my horse.

8) I had deep thoughts about necromancers today. It had to do with the communist tangent earlier.

9) I'm willing to work exceptionally hard for my money, but I'm not willing to do anything that actually pays well. I live very cheaply and try to save my money. I spend most of it on buying horses. That is a bad habit. I tell myself that when I have a kiln of my own, I'll make a lot of money off of glass sculpture, and I think it's true.

10) I like all genres of music fairly indiscriminately, but there are an awful lot of individual songs and artists that I think royally suck.

11) I have used the color orange to control my anxiety for years. It used to be a food thing, but now it’s generalized into …everything. It’s a good thing, though. I’m on the whole much less anxious and much more social. It’s possible that I could have done as much with any other color, but I doubt it. It’s also possible that social anxiety drugs might work better, but ethically speaking, I’m against it.

12) My sister has used every illegal drug available, except for heroin. I haven’t used any. My sister has been incarcerated in mental hospitals twice against her will but to keep her from doing harm to herself. I know for a fact that sanity has nothing to do with one’s mental or emotional state, and everything to do with one’s functionality and usefulness to society. I am both functional and useful, but probably not sane by conventional standards. I mean that in an objective way. Craziness runs in my family.

13) I’m beginning to think that I’m taking this ‘twenty facts’ thing too seriously.

14) Given the opportunity to spend the day watching television, I will inevitably skip over mainstream shows in favor of any televised surgical procedure or cold case murder shows.

15) I bought a begonia last summer, to prove to myself that I couldn’t keep a plant alive. The goddamn thing won’t die. I hung it in a dark corner and water it once a month, if that. I think it must be a masochist.

16) If I don’t have a specific task or role to play, I cannot handle social situations without panicking. I’m also not sure if I spelled ‘panicking’ correctly.

17) The etymology of the word panic comes from the Greek word pan. As in the god Pan. It means ‘all’. When one is in the presence of pan, one feels panic. Alright. Enough of this worrying. To deal with the way gas prices are shooting up, I'm going to buy a moped, I think. Right now, I'm working a mere half mile down the road, and its too dangerous to walk. Also, my horse is at a barn four miles away, and the babies are another five miles, all on country roads. A moped seems the way to go, more economical than my little subaru, which can wait for the snows to be really useful.

Anyways, I'd like to know if any of you worldly European friends of mine have an opinion on Tomos brand mopeds. Here's the one I'm looking at [link]

I'm pretty well sold on them, I have to say--they get 100 to 125 miles to the gallon. That's hard to beat. But, does anyone have any moped horror stories to share? Or advice in general?

well, don't get me wrong, the cruise was really great, I had a wonderful time and took ten gazillion pictures. But the bitch I work for now hired someone new in my absence and is saying that she may give the woman the house as part of the employment package AND ITS MY GODDAMN HOUSE ruh it was my incentive for taking the job. I quit three jobs for this.

Well, we're going to talk on monday, and if I don't get the house, I told her I'd be looking for a new job. Shitty that I've only been here for three weeks or so, and I was getting to rather like it. Whatever. I'll get another job in ten minutes, if that's the case.

Worse, I found out that Getting Warmer aborted her new foal, so now she's not preganat and its far too late in the season to try again. This was a terrible year for the horse industry in Maryland--only about 25 parcent of the mares got in foal this year. F;ah, so anyways, I think we have to sell her now. It'll be two years before we can make a cent on her. I'm really pretty depressed about it. it's supposed to be a business thing, but I really love that stupid horse.

Anyways. I guess we'll buy another weanling in a few months. We'll be selling Squidgy soon too. Double flah. At least I'll have Evander for another year.

Also, I hope none of you lovely people live in New Orleans, because hurricane Katrina is about to wipe New Orleans off the face of the planet. :/

Well. It's been... a day. Where to start? It isn't even over yet.

Yes folks, I'm not dead, but the 'p' key on my laptop is. I have it set to work when I hit 'ctrl z' but sometimes I forget, so forgive any momentary lapses.

Ok, today was the first day on my new job. Full time, more money, and a house thrown in to sweeten the deal. If all works out, I move into my house October 1st. I'm managing a barn of 3 horses. The catch? My new boss has a history of being ...horrible. We'll see. I have a high tolerance for that shit. Then I'll just hit her with a rake and leave, I guess.

Well, the first day was great. THe girl I'm learning the ropes from, Nicole, is just as flakey as me, so that's big fun.

On the other hand, one of the horses at my barn (where my horses are stabled) dropped over dead in the field last night. They found him this morning, and haven't got a clue what the hell happened to him.

Craaaaaazy shit.

Also, I got to chase the yearlings around on a four-wheeler today. That was the best fun EVER. I got lotsa bugs in my teeth though.

And now, I'm going to a party (put on by my hoity toity new boss) with Nicole. So uh... a party?

crimeny. Crazy day. But I had fun, mostly.

I should be online more. Life should be better. I gave up 3 jobs working at 3 other barns, and the dog walking thing is on hold. SO. We shall see.

temporary semi-radio-silence. every day for the past two weeks has been a 14 hour day, or damn near. Ignore cisco counting the hours in the day for me YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN. I am talking to a chick about a real sorta full time job with a house thrown in to sweeten the deal. Beats the hell out of wondering if they're gonna boot me out of the hunt club. I still find it hard to change my routine, but something's gotta give. I'm going to give up at least one of my 8 part time jobs. Maybe two. I don't know about the dog walking thing. It's good pay, but I JUST don't like dogs. Mucking 30 stalls a day really is too much.

anyways, I dunno. I'll try to put pencil to paper this saturday, if I manage to sit still for a few seconds I haven't drawn anything for a long time. I have been writing tho, so I guess I can't say I've been completely uncreative.

I found the house I want to buy. It's a dilapidated, abandoned 150 year old farm house. unfortunately its sitting on 4 useless acres, so the people want 350,000 for it (I'm not even sure it has indoor plumbing). I guess I could just... squat. But uhm. no internet.

hm. the lightning just hit a tree across the street. maybe I should unplug my computer.

it's been really hot lately, but it's cooled down today, so I won't bitch about it.

Also, I met *wonder-slug in person last week, and he was so cool. Casey, you need to get out to the east coast more often. It was like I actually had a social life for ten minutes. @____@

The prints look great, I was really excited when I got them. Plus Todd gave me ten more than I paid for, so I have lots! Hooray! I'm going to give the extras to my sister, so she can pawn them off on her stoner friends.

Less good news, there's been talk of kicking me out of the hunt club, so they can give a new employee my room. They wanted me to take the job, but uh... I don't want to work with the fox hounds (aka clean ten tons of dog shit NASTY) and do fucking gardening for them all the time. SO I might have to find a new place to live :/ maybe I'll buy a goddamn trailer home. It would be cheap and I'd have more space. I could live in an rv or something. I dunno.

gah. dumb shit. uh. I was gonna paint or something today, but now I'm sleepy. so maybe tomorrow.

OH and I'm going to california next week. whatever.

anyways, I've got the files cleaned up for print, and I'm gonna give them to my friend this week, so hopefully I will have prints by next week.

He's alright, kind of goofy looking. one ear flops over instead of standing upright. Because of that, and because his mother's name is "One for Mike", we're calling him Evander.

so I guess it all works out. Getting Warmer is going off to see her boyfriend in a few weeks, and we'll have another foal next year. Hopefully.

hm. as I was writing that, Luciana knocked to ask if I could drive her to work in the morning. I'm a regular taxi now, so I suppose I should add it to my resume.

I don't have much to add. There's a horse show this weekend, so maybe I will have time to paint next weekend. also I was roped into going to california in june. grah. not so keen on that.

oh well. a break is a break.

hey, at least I'm making money. I was thinking of investing in Cisco Systems, for purely sentimental reasons. Also, their stock is pretty cheap right now. Any advice? I decided the stock market was probably cheaper and safer than buying more horses. I came perilously close to buying another one, but caught myself in time.

even more exciting, there are forming plans of buying a house some time in the next year or two. such fun to dream of. I have the money to buy a kiln now, but no place to put it. It would be better, I think, to save for a house rather than to rent a studio.

also, I was thinking of opening a gallery today. Maybe I should get some kind of background in business. But I know I could get art to display/sell. Some day I will start a gallery. It's going to happen.

I just need to work things out one dream at a time.

Kiln still on hold. for the time being.

at least my mare, Gertie (Getting Warmer) is due to foal in a month. The future keeps getting closer.

So today, instead of writing or drawing, I cut my dev watch list down from 350 deviations to 177.

tomorrow, there is a Steeplechase (the Manor Race, if you happen to be specific) which will be taking place across the street. I will attend because I told Sue I would. I'd rather it wasn't happening. There will be 5000 people in my front lawn. They will be drunk and loud and throwing trash around and pissing on things and having sex in unexpected places. Tomorrow, I would like to go to the barn, ride my damn horse, do some painting, and then... come home. and sleep. then maybe write something. instead I will wage a losing battle against agoraphobia, and watch some timber races, and hopefully no horses or jockeys will die in front of me.

I'm sure it will be lovely.

The wave of suicidal bunnies has ended, no more on the road sides, flattened. However, it's fox season. They're strange creatures--I will go months without seeing any fox carcasses on the road, then for a few days there will be fresh ones everywhere. So, in the last three days, I've seen six. At least that means there won't be anymore for a few months. Fox hunting will also be suspended for the summer, as it's denning season. I guess it's bad form to chase pregnant mothers. This fall, they'll start 'cubbing' which means fox hunting at a slower speed, to train the young houds how to course, and the young foxes how to run.

Hopefully, this means there will be fewer drunken parties downstairs.

Hmm, other things. I forget why I started this journal entry. Oh, now I remember. This chick out at the barn when I board my horse bought a painting, and I've been talking to her, and it turns out that her husband owns his own printing company. So I asked if he made poster prints, and she said she'd have him make me a sample. So that's way cool, maybe I can get a good deal on prints after all. Or at least I'll have one free sample to enjoy XP So I'm kinda excited about that.

Yah. that's it. nothing much. uhm. I have to stop falling asleep at 8pm. I'll never be able to keep up with all your guys now that I actually have shite to do.

oh, and exxon sounds like she might actually come see me sometime soon. hooray. she can help me muck stalls. we'll come up with more wacky conspiracy theories. someone will probably have a crisis and die. Big fun for ALL.

in other news, I took another job (this makes five). This one is in the morning--starting at 6:30 am, and effectively doubled my existing workload. Should double my pay too. I'm pretty well exhausted, but I should get used to it in a couple of months. Anyways, I'm sorry for not being all commenty and shite on y'all's deviations like usual. Frankly I'm just letting them pile up. I'll start commenting... well. I was gonna start last sunday, which is my single day off, but uhm. I got sidetracked reading stuff elsewhere. I haven't been doing any actual art either, although I did sell a painting (randomly) and racked up a few commissions (if these goddamn yuppies will give me photos of their stupid horses, at least). Also, I got new boots. Oh excitement, I can barely stand it.

anyways. I usually find time to do things after making the public announcement that I have no time. It has to do with the way I find anything (which involves publically announcing I can't find it... works every time. )

so there you have it. it's not because I don't love you all. it's just because I've been falling asleep at like 8 pm. lol. but I am so much closer to getting that damn kiln. of course, then I'll have to rent a place to store it. and so I will have to keep working all my jobs. so it's not like I'll ever have time to use it. :/

that's the way it feels at least. Hey, it's an old car. The odometer (which keeps track of miles reliably, but the display only works on odd-numbered blue moons) popped up today for the first time in two months, and I'm about 500 miles shy of 140,000. I'll have it in a few days. It also told me I needed more wiper fluid. Hmm, I thought I bought some last december. It's probably in my trunk under the kitty litter that I bought three weeks ago, and Exxon's clothes which she left in there over a year ago. There's a limit to how much more money I should sink into that damn car but blah. Yanno? driving is such a filthy habit.

hmm. my cat just evacuated her entire intestinal tract. I've lost my train of thought.

the next car I buy will have to be a hybrid 4x4. they will have to make one just for me. alternately, I need to be able to ride a horse to work. I'd become amish, but... amish people freak me out. Plus there's the whole skirt wearing thing. well, and the uber strict fundamental religion. No, I don't think that's a good fit.

in other news, I've been entertaining the idea of becoming a cop again. I really do want to pull people over and give them traffic tickets. So many assholes out there. So little time.

give it a week, I'll have thought up some new crazy scheme to make barely enough money to survive off of.

time to bitch about the weather.

yesterday it was 68 degrees and sunny. just beautiful. yes. couldn't have been nicer.

today it was 18 degrees and SNOWING. with 40 mph wind. holy fuck. even without the extreeeeeeme contrast, it would have been UBER LAME.

bitch bitch bitch bitch. thank god for carharts.

I always feel bad for not having anything deep or enlightening to share.

oh, but I did see a ghost the other day. in the Hunt Club. Which freaked me the HELL out.

ok, here's how that happened:

I was in the communal kitchen, baking cookies and talking on the cell phone with a friend. from the kitchen there are two doors basically right next to one another. One leads out to the front hall, where the front door is and the staircase. The other leads into the big room where they have parties. From my strategic cookie baking spot, I could see through both doors. I would have heard/seen someone come through the front door or down the stairs. I didn't though. I saw someone walk past the other doorway, in the function room. It was dark outside and dark in the room, and I thought it was very odd that someone was heading into a dark room in a basically empty house (just me and the other renters most of the time, the day's hunt was long over by then). Especially since he was headed towards the far end of the room (without turning on the light) and there's NOTHING on that side of the room. Except a taxidermied fox. I heard his bootsteps as he crossed the doorway, but they faded again as soon as he was out of sight. He was wearing tall black riding boots, riding breeches and a black... cloak/coat thing. I couldn't see his face/too dark I guess.

so I thought this was odd. I didn't say hello because I was on a cellphone (he must have known I was there, I'm not quiet. ever) and also because I was afraid it was Doug. Who is a very huggy person. But I thought it was odd and I kept an eye on the doors/front hallway to see who it was when they left.

well half an hour later I wrapped up my cookies and headed upstairs. As I did, I took a good look into the big empty dark function room.

of course there was no one there.

...

the only way he could have left was by walking PAST me or breaking a window. and there were no broken windows. THen again, he should have gone past me to come in too.

now I'm ALL freaky. I need to start keeping more food in my room, so I don't have to go downstairs at night. Ever.

the hunt clubhouse was built in the 1920's, but it was added onto a farmhouse which had been around since the early 1800's/late1700's. Incidentally the kitchen is in the old part.

even more incidentally, I told Sue (a fellow denzien of the hunt club) about it. She's 77 and has lived here since the 60's. And she told me my description exactly matched what other people have seen in the hunt club. Of course I hadn't heard any stories until now. Jeeze. I thought if this place was haunted, someone would have told me up front. x__X now when I hear that freaky pacing up and down the hallway at 3 am, there ain't NO way I'm going out to see who it is.

if you have a car, go out NOW and fill up your tank. Gas prices are expected to rise about 25 cents this weekend. In the past three hours I've seen them go up ten cents in the area around my parent's house--which is in the backyard of some major oil refineries. The farther they have to ship the filthy stuff, the more expensive it's gonna get.

I don't know when/if gas prices will go back down, but I've started putting away for a hybrid car. this shit is ridiculous.

anyways. I hope the info I got is wrong and that the prices don't inflate overnight. If that isn't the case, I hope y'all read this or hear it from someone else, so you don't have to pay huge prices if it's just something that'll span a few days. I know I only have about 5 days before I'll have to pay whatever prices are.

and netscape never signed on again. It tells me that the email address that IT gave me isn't valid. so you know what netscape? I don't need you. I loaded an emergency AOL disk and used my dad's account. lol, maybe I am a rabbit at heart, I always need a few boltholes. Anyways, I wasn't nearly as levelheaded about the whole thing as I should have been. Too much stress lately. That was definately the last straw. and there was a weepin' and a wailin' and a g'nashin' of teeth.
