OK, I thought I'd start up a little competition for a little change, which is open to anyone on deviantART.
Instead of setting a theme I have created a terrain file and will leave it up to entrants to use their imagination, to show the most creative use of the same terrain. The MAIN prize will be a YEAR subscription for deviantART!!
This isn't going to be software specific, so you can use your favourite program whether it be Terragen, Terragen 2, Carrara, Vue or any other program and the following .zip file contains 3 different formats of the same file .ter .bmp and .vob.



Even if you've never tried digital landscaping, this could be your chance to start, there are plenty of applications available for free for personal use (which I'll list and link below).
I won't be judging on final render quality or size, its the use of the terrain that'll be judged so no need to produce a massive res image with maximum anti-aliasing settings not everyone has the computing power or time to render such images, although if your image is really tiny and too low a quality setting it may not be easy to see, so be reasonable)



1) the terrain itself is NOT to be altered in anyway, apart from converting it to a format that suits you if the ones supplied don't work for your program of choice, resizing is allowed too if the file is too big or too small for you (the current terrain size is 1025 x 1025). If you need the terrain in another file format bbut can't convert it yourself note me and I'll change it for you, I can do most formats.
Some rescaling of the height range is allowed too.
2)The image must be a minimum size of 640 x 480 for purposes of being able to see it clearly.
3) Post work IS allowed, almost anything goes. Just don't go too filter crazy that the image can't be seen clearly or that it becomes something other than a 3D landscape.
4)You can create as many images as you wish and submit them, but by the closing date you MUST select only one for final consideration. If you haven't selected one by then I will take the last image you submit as the final submission.
5) Closing date for submissions will be Midnight (GMT) Friday 31st August at which point I'll ponder the winners and purchase the subscriptions.
6) Images from ANY 3D software with landscaping abilities will be accepted.
7) By submitting your entry you agree to me displaying a thumb of the entry in this journal.
8) To enter just create your image and submit it to your own gallery and state in the description that its for this compo, then send me a note with a link to the deviation and I'll come and check it out as soon as I can.
9) I retain the right to change or amend the rules at any time, so before you post an entry please check the rules again.

I have a friend who loves to hump sofas.


Ireland's worst air disaster occurred early this morning when a small
two-seater Cessna plane crashed into a cemetery. Irish search and rescue
Workers have recovered 2846 bodies so far and expect that number to climb as digging continues into the night.




got tons of renders planned and may even delve into YET another 3D app so apologies in advance for the images produced! I also have a couple of competitions to TRY and create something for so a nice busy old time for my machine and I.

Apart from that....more beer.
