        <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ Well the Emerald City Comic Con was pretty much a bust for me. I have NEVER waited more than about 15-30 minutes in a line to get in to see a show. It took 1-1/2 hours in a line that literally would go around the convention twice if that were the path it took. It was actually more circuitous. And I lucked out that I bought my ticket online a week before. That was a first as well. Turns out Sat and Sun were sold out. Friday tickets were limited. I might not have gotten in if I tried to get a ticket at the door!<br /><br />At least once inside it didn't seem more packed than usual. Tho' the entire convention center was servicing the 'con this year. I did ]]></media:text>

        <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ So I thought I'd just add a quick blurb on Win 8. Given Win 8 is due out in a day or two here's the quick report on my personal impression. I was lucky to have a little box to spare, so I dropped my SUSE Linux from there and popped on the consumer preview of Win 8...<br /><br />Pluses: Fast!<br /><br />It felt very smooth. Perhaps fast is not correct. But it was very smooth. I had it on a small solid state drive (you know I love those things) and opening programs and using the tool was wonderful. I particularly enjoyed Media Center even tho' I think it's hopelessly obsolete. I actually love the REMOVAL of Aero which I always thought was useless GPU time wasting  ]]></media:text>

But the theme of that animation was that the robots couldn't get spare parts because the evil robots running the metal smelter were trying to make it too expensive to fix yourself up. The only way to get fixed up was expensive "upgrades". Well, I'm not sure the difference between spare parts and upgrades, but I just recently upgraded my system!<br /><br />Last time I messed with this machine (other than the SSD I stuck in there not too long ago) was back in 2009 when I bought it. The integrated amp and speakers are new. Well comparatively in the last decade. But I'd give anything to have something tube driven. That's pricey sound. Yet, I understand tubes. Did I take care not to delete any partitions before I knew my new one was in place? Did I loose all the comics I've been working on for the last 5 years?<br /><br />No,<br />No,<br />Yes!<br /><br />Yes, I blasted the partition on the old drive and not the new drive and almost lost all my Dragonaur comics in the last 5 years. Note: I had properly archived the years previous and so they were safe! Fortunately I found a tool called Partition Wizard that could recover a partition! Saved! Anybody new isn't going to be able to sort out heads from tails!<br /><br />But alas, it's slow. The AJAX on the page doesn't remember what it was doing if you click away to the next picture too fast! So this will probably take a few days.<br /><br />I'll add an edit here when I'm through. Then maybe you can find something old you might have liked!<br /><br />.ps I'm pretty much done. So I'm fairly motivated to use MS latest whether I like it or not. Win 7 seems to be the same as Vista. If you've got a machine made for it you'll probably be OK. But if not. It's not so great.<br /><br />I loaded the Win7 family pack update. I thought I'd try the 64 bit version, it's an upgrade right? No. If you've got 32 bit Vista you can only upgrade to 32 bit Win7. You should disable java script in your reader.<br /><br />Edit/Preferences/Javascript. Updating your reader won't help, even version 9.0 has the problem. I've also disabled the plugin in my browser. The vector seems to be an advert on your favorite web site. The site can be totally legit since it's coming in through Google ads or any of the various ad rotaters.<br /><br />I've been attacked 3 times in 3 days. Make sure your virus scanners are up to date! You know when they say to back up everthing when you do such a thing? THEY'RE *#$&#@ SERIOUS!<br /><br />After the reboot my computer started chewing it's arm off saying that my CPU is overclocked! Overclocked? Hey I drive 55 on the Autobahn, I don't overclock! Well, grunging around in the BIOS settings I see, hay, auto overclock controlled by the OS is a new feature! A very BRAIN DEAD feature I'll say. Remember the OS in control on this machine is Vista.<br /><br />Friends don't let friends use computers with Vista!<br /><br />Anyway, I'm stubborn and I'm not going back to XP.         <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ So it's official. I have not one but two linux machines in my house. One is set up with Gnome desktop. It's a pokey 133 Mhz bus computer with a 700 mhz or there abouts processor. It actualy runs just barely if I load up "flashblock" for firefox. I'm thinking of making this machine my music server. Should be good enough for that.<br /><br />Machine 2 is a bit faster at 266 with a 1.7 GHz processor. I've got KDE there. I'm using that machine now. I can leave on the flash animations. I must say I'm liking the KDE desktop a bit better first rattle out of the box (compared to GNOME). KDE can be customized very easily. It looks alot like XP which I did like  ]]></media:text>

Mr. Bleedman wasn't there but another snafu-comic's artist was there who assured me that t-shirts are the way they make most their money. So I bought one. A bit on the spendy side for me at nearly $20 but it was a very professional looking shirt. I was using it before, but had to stop when I set up my Vista machine because for some strange reason Firefox is not preloaded in Vista! ^_^<br /><br />Well, I must say I'm so glad I'm back. Firefox is so much more responsive than IE. For one it loads the page regardless of the images or not. IE always waits too long for the images. I know grandma will get confused watching the page build itself as the data is loaded from the I-net, but I love it!<br /><br />Plus, in this version there is a spell checker in the text entry boxes! Yeeeaaaahhh! That is an incredible feature! I lo ]]></media:text>

You might not know I'm not too fond of vacations. You end up running around and can't get any art work done! Plus, Vermilion-0's subscription gift also lifted my spirits so when I finally got back I started drawing like crazy. Well, as much as I can draw!<br /><br />I've been taking on a little more on in the art trying to keep some amount of background there. As you see I end up not inking or coloring such. Then I loaded Vista on it... eeewww... Well 5 hours later I finally got my internet connectivity working. Turns out that Vista doesn't work with older networking gear. REMEMBER THIS! Something about Vista being finicky about the DHCP protocol.<br /><br />But it turns out that my router had a firmware update that fixed everything. I just updated a new image and Cloned my mac address and I was back on the i-net.<br /><br />Thank goodness, that router wasn't that old! As usual Vista coudn't tell me a damn thing that was wrong.         <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ Throw away your audiophile CD players!<br /><br />I just bought a 30 dollar Sound Blaster Audigy sound card for my computer. 24bit 96khz capable card and you know what it's sounds nearly as good as my Denon DCD 3000 player! I replaced the sound because the drivers from Realtek trashed my computer. But I'm floored by the sound in my headphones. Quite incredible. It's amazing what you can get out of inexpensive equipment now a days!<br /><br />Mind you I have a great pair of headphones, Sennheiser HD-600's. Did you know putting multiple colored text on the screen using Windoze is like the most difficult thing possible?<br /><br />I've been programming Windoze API's since before any flavor of Unix could even fit on a microcomputer. In all that time I've never actually put any text on the screen. Always doing plumbing and connecting up subsystems. But you techies might know that IE has a weird implementation of CSS1 and CSS2. Thus, since I had orginally designed my pages in IE, they don't show properly aligned in Firefox.<br /><br />But Firefox has some great innovative features that leave IE on it's  capitalist lazy butt. So at last I got off of my duff and updated my opening page. I've still got to work on my archive page template but I think you'll be pleased to see that the main page looks proper in Firefox now!<br /><br />Dragonaur supports open standards!<br /><br />.ps  ]]></media:text>

But I have a 4 wheel drive and I'm not afraid to use it. No traction problems here!<br /><br />My contract is almost up! Soon to have lots of time on my hands. I'm thinking of doing something special on my lay over time. What will it be? I'm not saying just in case I don't do it!<br /><br />In other news, I got a very detailed review from one of the fans of my cartoon. Kitty Quixotic spent a good deal of effort to write it up. "For Better or for Worse", "Blondie", "Opus", "Doonesbury", you know the drill. But when it comes to web comics. I generally have issues with them.<br /><br />Take "Pvponline.com." Now that's just as professional as anything you'll see in the paper. But it bugs me. "Wapsisquare.com" It too, is well rendered but it bugs me.
