after reading an entry in kuroi-tsuki's journal entry, i felt incited to discuss my attitude about my own art idols as well. i admire many artists. however, my approach towards my own art (development, style, ideas etc) has been influenced by a few.

[lunayoshi] - in middle school, i was first exposed to digital art through stephanie's works. i didn't use the internet back then for artistic purposes until i searched 'yoshi' in a search engine and came across her site. i was amazed at how, at her age back then, such a young individual could create digital art. (back then, i have never heard of photoshop or digital coloring etc). i admired her pokemon and yoshi art. her style of coloring is really interesting - i love the soft transition of shades she is able to create. from her, i learned that the creation of characters is a way for an artist to express their own personal feelings and incorporate ideas in their work. she was the first online artist i was exposed to. though now, my taste and preference of style has evolved and diverted from that type of chibi cartoonish style that she has.

[angie starfyre] - following one of the links from stephanie's site, i came across amy's art. at first, i really wasn't into her art. i wasn't in anthros at that time. but somehow i kept looking back at starfyre's site over and over. her style captivated me somehow - the crisp lines and cel shading, the graphic design backgrounds. her web design layout appealed to me too. what i really loved was the way she designed her characters' clothing. i felt incited to draw and desgin clothes, but i sucked at drawing humans and found them boring.... and i like to draw animals. that was when i first began to take the anthro approach. sadly, she seems to have disappeared from the internet scene. i do not know if she still resides somewhere displaying her works on the internet...but if anyone knows..please tell me T_T. i miss her.

[magnus] - stumbled upon her on neopets (ohhorror). i used to be obsessed with neopets back then. i saw her neopian comics and art on that site and i fell in love with amanda's work. she has this spunky style that emits an air of a badass and edgy aura. i love the way she presents her art, it's very vivacious. from her, i learned to explore art more wtih implementing emotions and character expressions. she even inspired me to attempt to make random comics of things. her subjects are anthro, demons and fantasy/mythical creatures.

[zarathus] - neopets lead me to amanda. amanda led me to deviantart. deviantart led me to sara mcclure. i was completely blown away by this artist who is my age. i was influenced at artists who are similar to my age because it tells me what kind of potential i could have had, and it drives me to be up to their level of skill. (of course i know now that age means nothing - it's experience) sarah's work is powerful in the manner of her subjects expressing emotions and displaying detail. i admired her style - it was more realistic compared to the other artists whom i had been watching at that time. it was new to me. after that, i wanted my subjects to have a more realistic nature and detail to them. from here on out, dA has lead me to many artists.

[nanya] - i really admired the amount of detail in amelia's creature artwork. her inked artwork really inspired me. i began to experiment drawing with pen from her influence. her direction of art now has strayed from the extremely detailed dragons to more of a focus on humans/demons. i still love her style, and her cg style is incredible.

[ashryn] - amazing. just amazing. everything about her style just amazes me. the flow of her art - the lines, coloring, lighting, the atmosphere is eye candy. fresh pure brilliance i perceive it. her black and white art, ink style etc and comics have an influence on me. i love the way she depicts her art - violent, sexual, and serene. she displays things in a tasteful mature manner. ashryn...

I do not know much about the furry community/furry fandom/furrydom. Though, I have lately begun to ponder as to whether I myself am considered a ‘furry’.

Obviously, from my gallery I have an appreciation towards anthropomorphic art. Admittingly, my initial reason on beginning to draw anthro art was because it was an alternate deviation from drawing humans. I actually just wanted to draw and design clothes – but my human art is…hmmm…and I seem to have more ease with animal structures. Overall, I prefer not to classify myself as solely an ‘anthro artist’. I actually like to just draw creature art in general (fantasy art and so on). My art subjects heavily depend on my mood at the time, like if I want to convey a subject in a more humanistic nature or not. I do occasionally doodle and sketch some human pieces from time to time (but I have no confidence in displaying them in my main gallery at the moment).

I don’t roleplay. I don’t attend furry conventions or go fursuiting. I don’t wear ears, tails or collars etc. I am not a ‘lifestyler’. I am not into yiff (though I feel indifferent about it depending on portrayal). I’m not really obsessed about actual literary or animated anthro portrayed characters.

Does my interest in anthro art (somehow me saying the term ‘furry’ seems awkward) constitute me a member of the furry fandom?

I’m not trying to degrade or defend the furry fandom. (We’ve seen enough of that) I simply would like some input from other people on their thoughts as to what makes someone a ‘furry fan’ and what doesn’t.
note: i have finals to study for - so it will take a while for me to actually go and look through the galleries of people and pick some art.

i forgot to mention, that sketches/lesser art will be placed at my sheezyart gallery [link]
.......

lately, i've been noticing that some artists whom i admire have been leaving dA, (or even the whole internet scene for that matter)... i idolize some of them and saddend that i won't ever seem to see their art as much. :/

-----
soo errr yeah, i haven't been doing much lately due to college and apathy etc... i finished a Death Note manga coloring (i did not draw the lineart):

[link]

i've been currently obsessed with random things lately.. Death Note/L is one of them.. (hence the posting of disturbing photos of myself i decided to torture people with...sorry -_-.)

here's a list of my obessions right now (no particular order):
1) Death Note manga [link] and anime.
2) Nightmare - jrock band...(damn death note anime)
3) Miyavi/Miyabi/MYV - this jrock singer... somehow he has this appeal to me -_-. damn pvs. [link]
4) Shiki no Uta (Song of Four Seasons) [link] by MINMI - Samurai Champloo ending song is -pretty-
5) Karabiner - awesome anthro artist. i love his digimon fanart. [link]
6) browsing and looking at various fan art of things

random art thoughts:
i've been thinking about how...i really am not satisfied with my current art status. i just think things are mediocre. for once, i would like to produce a flawless artistic piece. so far, i always see mistakes. i am aware of the mistakes...it's just that i don't have sufficient knowledge as to how to correct them. i suppose i need my main focus right now is to improve my anatomy and from there work on a style -_-.

and recently, i've been trying to make more comments on artists' work around here. i am hoping i can get more feedback on my stuff - like critiques. that would definately help.

Sometimes, when I look at my own artwork, I see the word "fake" written all over it. I just see a lot of inconsistency. I am beginning to loathe myself.

There are many artists out there whom I idolize. I admit, I have subconsciously and even intentionally tried to emulate their style and/or ideas. I would take something of theirs and attempt to mold it out differently in hopes I would make my own piece unique. I try so hard to make it [style, idea] divert from that artist, but still, there is always a suspicious remnant. I am perhaps...too dependent on these artists. If I never have been 'inspired' by them, my artwork would be virtually nothing, just dead.

As I continue to look at my idols' work, I am beginning to feel apprehensive that I am abosrbing their characteristics too much and subconsciously incorporating it into mine. The solution...maybe I should cease watching these artists - therefore, i can't leech off anything because I have stopped absorbing. The problem..now what? How do you create something with an extinct inspiration? Is it sad that I cannot function without them? It is their work that motivates me to draw more (hmm..that and music, films, literature etc).
I realize I am damaging these artists and damaging myself as well. I have deprived myself from independent evolution. I've stripped myself from an actual identity. i need to figure out how to evolve my own way and develop something personally unique. I feel like I have to quit all my work in progress art because of that lingering 'other artist' presence. I think I might even be hesitant to start drawing anything because of this paranoia.

a dismay...i don't know who i am.

i seem to draw with an imprinted function. must stop.

how? how? how do you artists develop your own unique style? I know many artists are inspired from others, but still, these artists manage to have prominent qualitites that differ from others.

------
and on a totally different topic: i would like to say that i utterly regret creating the online alias name of 'drakonshie'. i wish i could change it - but that would mean i would have to change my other accounts. and that would cause confusion X.x (wow...if i had my own unique style - i wouldn't need a consistent alias to distinguish who i am)

i've been on dA for what..at least 2 and a half years so far. i started becoming serious in my art in 8th grade. still haven't been productive much. it amazes me how some artists manage to create massive numbers of image in short time. (regardless that they have jobs, college, lives etc) I don't have much of a life, but still - i just don't seem to find enough time to work on my art. i am currently a high school senior, and i'm about to go to college so...i definately will be less productive on my art.

i guess i have to update more. the people who are devwatching me are dropping like flies. summer was busy and so is school now. i'm juggling ap classes and i don't have a lot of time to draw things. at least i won't have a lot of time to do a complete piece...i still have several unfinished pics lying around somewhere.

i will post a WIP of my current project. (which the sketches wil be deleted after the final piece is done).

i decided to make use of my "scraps" section. from now on, i will post -human- artwork in that section. i don't think i draw them as well as i do with creature stuff. it will probably end up mostly being a fanart of humans. i actually put in sketches. but they will be deleted one i have some more appealing pics. so if you don't want to see my human art, you don't have to be forced to look at them.

[link] (neji manga pic colored)

well, i haven't been doing much art stuff the past few weeks. i gotta get ready for finals. man...i've been currently obsessed with an anime. it's called Naruto...it freakin rocks. i've been wanting to color some of the manga pictures just for the heck of it (practice my computer coloring skills). so i haven't been attempting to actually draw much of my own stuff.

i don't know what art things i'm going to do this summer. i want to color some more naruto manga pages. if i get done with any, i'll post the link in this journal. i also need to try to do some of my character sheets (my fantasy creatures) and create better designs. i haven't been inspired much from creatures lately. i would like to do some gift art for some artists i admire.

i suppose i'll do a kiriban thing. whoever gets the 1,000th pageview, i'll do a request pic for them. just email me the screenshot of the 1,000th pageview and tell me what you would like me to draw (creatures only, i'm not drawing humans yet). if you have anything specific for me to draw, please send me some references.

inferiority

well, on elfwood, i actually got moderator's choice for one of my pictures, Wormtongue. i received many comments, and i also received some comments that.... irritated me. these were comments that said that i shouldn't have earned moderator's choice. one person said it in a rude and blatant manner, while another one "tried" to be polite. they didn't really specify why my picture 'sucked'.

alright, so some people think i don't deserve recognition for anything i do. and if i do receive recognition, they just try to take my pride away. it just pisses me off.

yes, i know that i am not one of the 'greatest artists of the world' (also realizing that the number of people watching me have dwindled). i'm not complaining that people hate my art. of course, people are entitled to their own opinions. it aggravates me the way they present their comments.

commentator 1 says: OH THAT IS REALLY UGLY AND STUPID YOU SUCK I CAN DRAW BETTER THAN YOU. YOUR NOT THAT GOOD AT ALL! THERE ARE BETTER ART LOOK AT BESIDES THIS JUNK!!!!!!!111
commentator 2 says: nice color scheme. but this image seems to lack movement. the subject doesn't fit in with the background. the anatomy could use more work.

hmm which comment seems more intelligent? why do some people comment like commentator 1? are they saying those things because they are jealous, and they want to make the artist feel inferior to them? do they truly think that they are better than the artist to the point where they stoop down and -brag- in a harsh manner? are they saying it because they think it's just some 'fun joke'? if their intentions are to make the artist feel dejected, then the only thing they have accomplished is making other people see them as stupid idiots and having people laugh at them. if anyone reading this happens to make 'crude and offensive' comments, then know this: you're just wasting your time and presenting -yourself- as inferior.

i don't mind comments that criticize my art (like comment #2), as long as it is -constructive-. make yourself look more intelligent.
