CLUB NEWS
November 30th

The contest has been decided. The theme is Ed, winter, and "Where'd that __ come from? O_o "
As in...
Ed must be somewhere in the entry, but doesn't need to be the main focus
There needs to be something that is commonly associated with winter, which can range from a winter food/drink, to winter clothing, to winter weather, to something related to a winter holiday or holidays (a holiday within the months of December, January, ...and possibly February), to an object commonly seen during winter, to any combination of wintery things.
If someone just happens to live in the southern hemisphere... the winter related thing(s) can reflect whatever your winters are like (but there does need to be a way to tell it's a southern winter and not a northern summer. ^_^" )
There must be something strange in the entry (the words "where'd that __ come from?" don't need to be in the entry)

The entry can either be a short fanfiction (within a few pages long (that's so vague...), preferably a oneshot), a picture, or a comic (same rules as for fanfics)
Each person can submit one picture and one fanfic. Therefore, each person can submit two entries (but not two pictures or two fanfics).

The contest will start now and entries can be submitted until... let's say January 10th (but, if that turns out not to be enough time, let me know and the deadline may be extended). After the entries are in, there'll be a few days of voting.

Only members can enter the contest - to become a member, read the rules at the end of this journal entry, and then follow the directions listed within the rules.

Um... am I forgetting anything? Oh yeah... there's the prize matter... is having a contest for drawing Ed and a clock. [link] Who thinks it would be a good idea for our contest to involve a clock, also? That way, anyone who enters a picture (fanfics wouldn't apply) in this contest can also enter it into their contest.

Which ever theme is chosen, the entry needs to have Ed in it, and needs to have something to do with winter (can be something about snow, clothing, Christmas, Hanukkah,Kwanza, etc, just as long as it's associated with winter). Entries can be either fanfiction or fanart.

So, vote which of these two you want.

A. clock (can be any type of clock/watch, anywhere in picture)

October 22nd

First off, I'd like to know when you guys would like to have another contest. If you have some ideas for a start date, how long it should last, what the theme should be (it could be anything, including previously thought of themes, except it can't be Ed in a new outfit), and/or if it should be a fanfic-writing contest this time or not, you can comment on this journal with your ideas.

I've decided to change the comment-joining rule a little. Of course, it won't make a difference to members. ^_^" Basically, it's hard to copy a username from a comment, so I think I'll say a person needs to type their username in the comment text (and won't require them to say they've read the rules, because I'd know they did if they type their name, right?)
I also added a few things about fanart and fanfiction, like mentioning how comics and fics will be dealt with, and telling how members can have custom submission titles or something.

During the last few minutes, while adding art and members, I've wondered if I could write a computer program to do a few things automatically to make it a little easer to get club things done. I'm sure I can write code to output submission comments that I can paste, or output a username that I can paste into the member lists, but it'd be interesting to see if I there's a way to do more than that, like automatically type the comments into the submission textbox and the title in the title textbox, or automatically arrange member names alphabetically. Anyone know how that could be done? It would have to interact with dA, which should be possible, but probably way above my level of programming knowledge.

The entries are in and it's time to vote. (no more entries please) We have seven entries. Please look at each entry (they should be the first seven pictures in the "Contest Stuff" folder in the gallery - or just click on the links below (don't go by numbers if you look in the gallery)) and decide which entry should win by focusing not on the author, but on the entry itself.
(hmm... I should have said "time for submitting entries ends on the 15th" in previous journals... contest isn't exactly over yet. ^_^" We still have the voting to do.)

Voting Rules:
You need to be in the club to vote. To join, read the rules under the "General Club Information" section in this journal. You can vote whether or not you submitted an entry.
Don't vote for your own entry.
One vote per person (depending on how it goes, there may be another voting session later, to settle ties and such).
Vote through a note. (I thought it best for votes to be private) I'll tally up the votes and declare a first, second, and third place. (a subject of "vote" for your note will be helpful, by the way)
You have until... (how long should it take for a person to vote?) the 20th sounds about right. Four days (ten minutes for looking at entries and sending a note, but not everyone's going to see this journal right away). The voting deadline may be changed, depending on how things go.

There's several new affiliates since I started doing things for the club, and I wonder if anyone actually noticed them. Take a look at the list, there might be one you're interested in. ^_^

The outfit theme definitely wins. It’s had twice as many votes as the other two themes pretty much the whole time and I doubt that waiting for any more votes will change that, so let's get this started.

I would say that first place also gets a picture or something, but I’m bad at requests (any volunteers?).

August 2nd

Yay, first contest in years! ^_^ (mods can join, right? hee, hee... ^_^" )

So, here we go. First, I need to know how many people actually are interested. What better way to find out than to have everyone who wants a contest (whether you submit an entry or just like looking at others' entries) to vote for a theme? ^_^

Three themes to choose from (based on the replies to the last journal entry):
(all three of these choices can include as many characters or things as you like, but I think it's only far that the theme be Ed-centric and each entry have Ed in it. ^_^ Also, entries can be either fanart or fiction.)

Fighting scene: Ed battling against someone of your choosing (homunculi, ally, someone from a different show, or whatever. It can be funny, serious, can make use of awesome camera angles, or anything else.)

New outfit: Ed in an outfit of your choosing (just some new clothes, clothes from some time period, occupational clothing, Halloween costume, or whatever)

Back to school: Ed doing whatever you think he’d do in school or getting ready for school.

Hmm... contests need prizes, don't they? (ponders) I'll think of something. ^_^" Well, the winner's entry will be displayed as the club's featured deviation, of course.

After some thought, I have decided to submit whole fanfic first chapters/oneshots to the gallery, and members can have me put links to other chapters in the work's comments (a three chapter fic is still one fic). When I add a link to a new chapter, watchers will be notified. (I may change my mind. If you have any thoughts on how I should deal with fanfics, let me know.)

June 3rd

I've been putting art up. (points at art)

Okay, that's not all I wanted to say. ^_^" I have a feeling that some submission notes may have been deleted at some point... If anyone's tried submitting artwork since Kira arrived and it's not up there now, please send another note. (same for joining notes)

I've noticed that people have been favoriting pictures I've submitted in here, and I'd like to remind you that "the club" didn't make them, members of the club did, and they'd rather have the picture in their own gallery favorited.

Um... Another thing I'd like to ask is, since there's joining and submission notes way back from 2005 in the inbox, do you guys think I should submit all the old art? I started to, but then I began to wonder... (not to mention finding broken links and unused accounts) I'm thinking about just doing recent things, but I'm not sure if I should reply to all the old notes asking if they still want in or still want their art in, or just assume that they'll contact me if they do.

Oh yes, I almost forgot. ^_^" I've made some folders in the club gallery. Basically, everything will be in the "featured" section you see when you first look in the gallery. But, if you just want to see pictures or fiction, then you can look in there. (There's only one fanfiction entry so far, but if and when we get more, it may be hard to find them among the pictures. Also, if you think I should put up more than the first page of a fiction entry, let me know what you think I should do)

(I've been finding duplicates in the members' lists, by the way. Mostly from icon list four. If anyone just happens to notice a duplicate entry in icon list four, or a text list, comment and let me know.)

CLUB NEWS
May 30th

Sorry for the double post, but after some thought, I decided to start an alphabetical (text) list of members (in addiction to the icon list). list That would make it easier on people who have trouble viewing large amounts of pictures, make it easier to spot doubles, and easier for people to find their names. It’ll be updated every so often (so many names... There’s twelve usernames that start with “anime” and many more that start with “a”...)
Well, the club’s off to a slow start but it’s starting to get caught up. Thanks everyone for being patient.
A link to the pages of the members' icon list is down there, by the way (I’m sure the member count is off, though).
Oh, and I figured the featured picture was getting pretty old, so that's why it's not there anymore.
