Fan art's really not my thing cuz it makes me dizzy staring to my reference then to my drawing then to reference then draw it and the cycle repeats forever.

But i really did it! I'm glad I did.

Yoshitaka Amano's my most favourite character designer. Second to him is Tetsuya Nomura. Eversince that first glance at Amano's Kuja and Kefka art, I fell in love with it immediately and wanted to draw it. Unfortunately, Amano's art is so NOT fan art-able, cuz his style is sooo unique and detailed that you can't understand it. So i waited for T. Nomura's dissidia renditions, and my! What a failure!

My random thoughts about Nomura's Amano Renditions for Dissidia...
1) Butz: is this a fan art? or an original nomura design?
2) Terra/Tina: he did not get the right flower-y pattern on that gurl'z dress
3) Kefka: did he get lazy over the clown details?
4) Zidane/ Kuja: he should've followed the amano concept, not the SD zidane/ kuja from the game itself!
5) The rest are just magnificently done!
*) These thoughts are just my PERSONAL OPINION!

I said in my previous journal that i would draw KefkaXKujaKissing, but if i do that, i won't be able to make the most out of their detail, so i just did them with their own glamour poses!

Color!? How will i color it? Will i color it? Do i know how to color it?

After drawing these 2 guys (gals?), i realized, after years of wanting to draw them because i thought the design was sooo original, if you look at it closely, Kuja's design was actually just a rip off of Dragon Ball Z characters, and that Kefka's outfit is just stupid and very asymmetrical!

In conclusion, I LOVE IT!

I also got a copy of the ever elusive Moonchild movie starring Gackt and Hyde. The plot was simple, yet really interesting. kinda a Japanese counterpart of Interview with the Vampire. I love Gackt! I love Hyde! but they both love each other! Haha!

These i like!

Ai No Kusabi - no.1 on my list! so tragic! love the story and the artwork! i really like the realistic anime style of this one! tragic endings always break my heart, meaning the story is very well weaved

Kizuna - 2nd placer! sex comedy! really funny and naughty! not your typical angst story between 2 men, which is rare. i love it!

Lesson XX - the title may seen like it's porn, but it's not, actually its an innocent high school romance

Haru wo Daiteita - a sensual anime with a good story

Level C - omg a 5 minute story plus lot of bed scenes equals hentai!

Bronze Zetsuai - so sad!


These i didn't like!

Loveless - a 12-episode anime series that just bored me

Boku wa konomama kaeranai and Fish in the trap - i really like the classic anime art style but the thing is, the story is too short!

Hope when my allowance returns (my mom doesn't give me cause it's vacation), Quiapo is not out of stock of the rest of the shounen ai/ yaoi i still haven't bought yet

What do you keep in mind when you do illustrations?

Shinkawa: The Olga illustration was done especially for this artbook. What I keep in mind...that's a hard question.
I get bored easily, so I try not to stick to one style. I experiment with different styles each time.
"Wood block print this time, American comic style next time..." I change my style with every illustration.
That's what I keep in mind, I guess.

What do you think of imitating people?
Shinkawa: That's how I started. Imitating Mr. Yoshitaka Amano.
There are no original illustrations in the true sense, are there? We've seen them all.
When you say imitation, you can imitate someone completely or simply imitate the nuance.
Getting a hint from an illustration is imitation in a way.
I don't think it's wrong. No problem!! (laughs)
Since Mr. Shinkawa approves, Metacon-san is given the seal of approval. (laughs)

Do you not make mistakes without doing rough sketches first?

Shinkawa: (instant reply) Oh yes I make mistakes.
How many times do you redo rough sketches?
Shinkawa: If I do rough sketches with a pencil, the end illustration looks too much like the weak pencil strokes. That's why I do not do rough sketches with a pencil. I do a rough sketch and then trace it. What I don't do is trace pencil lines with a pen. But I still do rough sketches. If I do make a mistake, I start all over again. So it does take time.

How can you give so much detail to an illustration?

Shinkawa: Mechs are quite time-consuming. There are many steps involved, and that's why it takes more time.
How can I draw mechs well?
"How can you give so much detail to an illustration?" is the question. (laughs)
Shinkawa: Giving much detail is how you draw mechs well. (laughs) And how do I give details...
How you give accurate details deep inside...
Shinkawa: I don't. (laughs) I just try to make everything work out logically, and then the mech stands out.
"There is a screw here. What is this screw for?" I ask myself.
Maybe that screw is unnecessary, but I try to come up with reasons for things I draw. That adds to the persuasiveness. Adding lines is not what makes it look more like a mech. The lines connecting and showing at what points the mech will move...
such gimmicks are what I think about to add persuasiveness.
How much time do you spend on these?
Shinkawa: Some are finished in an instant. Some take forever.
i said earlier that I try many things. Different styles, different lengths of time.
I may finish it on the train in 20 minutes. I may not finish anything in 2 or 3 days. "Oh my God!!!"
Since time varies so much, please tell us about the shortest and longest examples.
Shinkawa: I don't want to talk about that. (laughs)
The shortest -- 10 minutes on the train.
The longest -- A week, probably. I am asked to do an illustration a week before the deadline. I start working on it, do other things, go back to the illustration, stop, go back to painting it, etc. and finish it up with Photoshop after a week.
And finally, this person will cherish this artbook forever. Keep up your great work!"

i just can't wait to draw and draw and draw and watch and watch and watch and play and play and play and throw and throw and throw all my school documents, thesis and especially my notes and reviewers in anatomy and physiology (although i love that subject, its just that, there's so many things to memorize, information is leaking through my brain, actually, i love anatomy, it's just that i hate physiology, oh well, those two cannot be separated anyway...)

our heart really does pump blood, but it is it really capable of feeling emotions? the brain contains the hypothalamus, and according to my professor, it is the seat of our emotions, so...?

i'm already eighteen, a certified young and "fresh" adult, yet i still don't know how to drive, gosh i'm being sissy, and yes, this is a great bonding time with the greatest artist and my most favourite in the whole world - my DAD! (but he didn't incorporate to me any of his artistic skills, hmph! meanie daddy!)
