Some of you may recall that earlier this year, I put up a couple polls asking people to pick a random letter and I'd draw whatever was listed under the winning number.

I never did get around to the remaining two (the only one I finished was the WALL-E & EVE pic) for one reason or another. But for history's sake, what I'd planned to draw was Jean Grey vs. Saren (mostly in a TK/biotics battle. Jean would, of course, be her 90's semi-depowered self for fairness) and Chuchu, one of my original characters (a mouse, actually) .

They didn't pan out for one reason or another. The Jean-Saren fight proved to be far too ambitious for me at this stage (I'd planned on first having them fight in the Astral Plane, then it changed to having an army of Geth thrown in) and Chuchu was still undergoing a redesign at some point.

I don't know if I'll ever do anything multi-tiered like that again, but if people like the overall concept of a random thing, I won't rule it out completely either.

I was going to complain about Clone Wars, but....

I just want to remind people that Dragon Age Origins is an incredibly awesome game.

It's so amazing being able to intimidate/persuade people and pick locks early on in the game. Wonder why I didn't choose a City Elf/Rogue in the first place. Oh well!

This Geonosis arc is killing my momentum with the series. When's it over again? 2 more episodes?

To be bluntly honest, most of my favorite SW characters are non-Force users, so I'm really bored with the recent crop of Jedi-centric episodes. Where's the bounty hunters? Where's Cad Bane? Where's Hondo (the pirate guy)? Where's all the non-Sith Separatist generals? Where's General Grievous?!?

I'm even starting to want the Mandalorian/Satine/faux Moulin Rouge arc now. THAT is saying something.

Don't get me wrong, I love, love, love the show; but these Geonosis episodes are really trying my patience for some odd, inexplicable reason. YMMV, of course and if you do like these episodes, I totes respect your opinion.

... But I do love Barriss. She's adorable.

Dragon Age Origins

BioWare's done it again.

I've said many times before: I'm not a fantasy person. I'm strictly sci-fi.

But this game is awesome so far. I've already created two characters (Filumena -lol expy-, a Human Noble/Soldier; and Mumtaz, a not-City Elf/Rogue) and it's a different experience all around. It's way massive and yay big.

Drawn to Life (2)

For the first time since... since Pokemon Diamond, I've actually picked up and used my Nintendo DS. Shocking.

~imouttahideas had mentioned Drawn to Life and I did some research on the series. Seemed really cute, has cute characters and a unique premise. Given the sore lack of any real originality in games these days, any unique idea has my interest.

They were out of the first one, so rented the second one. Granted, probably not the smartest idea (though I have played sequels before the first titles in a series. Half-Life 2, Tomb Raider 2, Final Fantasy X-2) but ehhhh, whatves.

I hadn't had the opportunity to really get into it yet, but I did create a Hero already. Marianne!

So yeah, I like it. Though *hopefully* I'll be able to balance this and Dragon Age when it comes to game playing.

Art Challenge Communities?

So I don't really see too many active art challenge communities lately. fanart100@LJ is pretty much dead and I can't find any decent original ones.

I'm thinking of making a new one. Only instead of 50 or 100, I'm thinking somewhere around 5 to 10 themes. I mean, we're all busy and sometimes artists just want to knock a few quick things out of the park for fun.

And it's both fan art and original, because I love both.

idk, I mean knowing most of my past ideas, it'll probably flop, but anything's worth a try at least once.

.... Hokey smokes, Bullwinkle. I just realized it's been a few weeks since I've uploaded real Mass Effect fan art. And by that, I don't mean mushy crap.

(Okay, so people only really care about my comics and not the non-comic stuff. Whatevs.)

Well in any case, I've got one picture that may cause a riot against me by some of the fanbase that I'm debating on showing and I've actually been redrawing this comic here from scratch:

But since "Praeda" is high priority comic-wise, it'll be a while before it's done. Like, a long while. Maybe in the interim I'll do another sketchpost thing to kinda show what's been appearing in the margins of my sketchbooks.

Hmmm, I do need to start drawing characters I haven't done before. Well, the ones that interest me anyways. (I'm holding off on ME2 stuff until the game is actually out. I don't want to whore off of the Thane fen, thanks) Maybe I'll do Saren at some point, I've always wanted to take a crack at him, as vapid and bland as he is, characterwise.

Original Art For Sale (I guess)

Well, I need a new tablet pen for my tablet and I figure since I'm not going to be getting any more hours at work any time soon (at least, until December), I may as well sell some of my original art.

(ETA: I've actually been using *digistardbz's tablet for the last few months. While it's extremely generous of her to allow me to use hers, I'd like to start using my own tablet again before the year is over and I completely forget how mine handles)

Without going into teal deer, here's the important things:

- I'm getting a new laptop later this week. It's one of those new Compaq ones with Windows 7. I'm planning on using it for school and art, as well as for writing. So -barring any sort of massive writers block- I'll HOPEFULLY have 'Blue on Black' finished before the year is over.

- For those who do read my Philomena Shepard stories (aka my Mass Effect fanfiction), I'm hoping to have two "finales" done before ME2 is out and I have to adjust things and usher in Jacob, Miranda, Zero and ME2*Tali (and others) to the fray.

Oh, and at least one of my fan characters (Quentin, Viktor, Ratree, Naiad or Diocletian) will die in one of them and one will leave the picture semi-permanently. That's all I'm saying for now.

- My iPod of 2 years -Skuttlebutt, a pink older iPod Shuffle- is finally dying after constant use. It still plays, but it will abruptly stop during a song and I have to mash the Play/Pause button in order to get it to work. I also haven't been able to update the music on it, since the Dell -which actually ran iTunes, the HP won't work for some reason- went kaput earlier this summer. I will probably be getting it along with the laptop. Finally, I'll be able to listen to NEW music -and past purchases- again!

... And it'll be one of the Nanos, so I can shovel more crap onto it, including video game soundtracks! I've missed you, F-Zero GX OST!

- The still-unnamed Cad Bane fan comic will begin Next Week and at least 1-2 pages will be posted per week, barring any unforeseen circumstances, finals (aka 'Dead Week' at UNO) and/or work priorities for Christmas. Again, I stress that Bane himself won't show up right away, but I'll try to get him involved as quickly as possible, but without sacrificing the story.

I'll primarily be posting it to my LiveJournal comm for my comics, but I may also post them here too.

- And of course, 'Star-Crossed Voyagers' is still in development hell, but I'm still keeping at it.

I forget what exactly, but I think an old friend of mine (~lindsaymeanie I think... God, I miss her so much) had mentioned it or something. I think it was right around the time a lot of artists were jumping ship from Side 7 for one reason or another. I used to have an old account, but I changed near the end of 2004.

Q: What does your username have to do with you? Is it a combination of your favorite things, or a character of yours?
My username is actually a car from 'F-Zero: GP Legend'. Lucy Liberty is my favorite character from the F-Zero series (and probably the ONLY one I liked from the anime) and I just liked the name of her car. Plus I'd started using it as my net alias and it just stuck.

Q: What is your current icon of?
Jean Grey in her 90's costume by Mike Deodato. It's from the forthcoming Winter 2010 (that's January/February, dag) wave of the Marvel Universe figures.

Oh this is too frustrating.

When it comes to projects, I'm good at separating my time on 'Star-Crossed Voyagers' and any fannish projects. I've been wanting to focus a little more on SCV as far as full length stories go and save fan stuff for one pagers or 3 parters. Fair trade.

Well wouldn't you know it, I've suddenly been struck with an idea for a Clone Wars/Cad Bane related fan story and it's one of those that won't really work as a fan fiction. Rather, as a fan comic.

AHAHAHAHA. NO.

IY'see, 'm not so much resistant to doing a fan comic instead of an original one, so much as I'm worried that it'll never get done. The Marvel 'What If' fan comic is an example, though in my defense, that was a victim of health issues and a subsequent surgery that KO'ed all creative output at the time.

So I guess the tl;dr of this is that I'm kinda seeing where and how I want to go with this idea. Nothing may come of it and it could just be another flash in the pan, but that happens sometimes.

Truth be told, I'd prefer to do that FF8 fan comic idea I've had lodged in the back of my brain for the last 10 years, but I'm... not really inspired for anything FF related at the moment.

I'm asking this mostly out of curiosity, but what's one thing that I used to draw -either certain original characters or fan art of a series- that you miss seeing from me?

It'd probably be something like this:

1) Ponyo
2) Up
3) Cloudy /w a Chance of Meatballs

I don't plan on seeing 9, since it looks horribly GOFFIK*generic to me and I'm not sure if 'The Fantastic Mr. Fox' -which is out in November- will count.

That aside, here's my reasoning for why I've rated them as such.

- Ponyo kicks the shit out of 'The Little Mermaid'. You can have your Ariel, I'll have my Ponyo. It takes the whole story skeleton and it does the whole 'happier ending' MUCH better than TLM. Plus there's no good/bad guy (I totally understand Fujimoto's perspective and Toki's just a tired, elderly woman) and the story is just enchanting. After being so disenchanted by animated movies -filled with scatalogical humor, dated pop culture jokes and BIG NAME CELEBRITAH VOICE ACTAHS-, Ponyo' made me believe in movies again.

- 'Up', well, what more praise can I lavish on this already? For one thing, it's a Pixar film and that alone is good enough. I'll admit, I could have done without the whole action/Kevin sub-plot, but when you've got a movie where a house is supported by flying balloons... you kinda need something to pad it out a little.

- 'Cloudy' itself is a darling movie. I agree with most critics in the sense that the second half was kinda unnecessary (just how did the machine become sentient?) and there were some things that should have been elaborated on (do the townspeople -except the mayor- have REALLY high metabolism?) but it was a delightful film.

Traditional Art Initative, Originals and More

Traditional Art Initiative
- I'm doing a little more traditional media-based art lately. Most of it is just scratch/scrappy type stuff, but I'm sure it'll surface eventually. I've got watercolor pieces, sketch cards I'm working on and at least one or two marker pieces. Maybe I'll even pull out the acrylic paints too.

The way I see it, working with ALL kinds of mediums helps to make you a better artist. I've been having strong doubts about my own artistic abilities, but you know something? I'm not going to get better -or noticed for that matter- if I don't work to improve in all areas. Corny, yes, but it's true.

Originals
- I've said this many times before, but I need to say it again (especially since I have new watchers): I actually do have original characters and a story too. If you ever get the chance to see my sketchbooks, you'll find much more Marianne, Zumzum and co. drawings than you see online. (I even have others, like Irma, Wind, Jericho, ect.) The thing being is that I'm extraordinarily picky about the original things I post online.

Commissions
- I'll get to these soon. Without making too many excuses, I'm very scatterbrained about my projects (seriously, how many have I said I'd start and never finish?) so it helps to kinda remind me every now and then. If I owe you something, please politely remind me.

CLOWN WRAS, errr, Clone Wars
- Yes, I'm making up for lost time as a Star Wars fan. if you're annoyed with the slightly high rate of Clone Wars fan art, I'm sorry. It's... not going to get better any time soon. I will try to be good and not draw so much Cad Bane. ~~Okay that's a lie~~

Those fetishy things
- As you may have seen, I've kinda started doing vore-themed art. Most of it will be posted at Eka's (it's not that hard to find me), but I won't lie and I'll tell you that there'll be at least one more Cad Bane vore comic posted here. And to the chap who asked me about Mass Effect vore, all I can say is this: stay tuned. Otherwise, don't be surprised if you see more silly things like feet licking here and there.

Of Art Altering and Others

So a few days ago, it was brought to my attention that someone had used one of my drawings -a fan art one, mind you- for a rather innocuous thing: a Yu-Gi-Oh card.

If you're expecting me to send you guys off to tan his hide for me, that ain't going to happen.

To be honest, I'm rather flattered, albeit in a very morbid sort of way. For one thing, I didn't ever think my art to be worth using -or stolen-. Heck, I was surprised when I saw someone uploaded one of my Jean Grey pictures to Comic Vine. Mostly because it was surrounded by Jean pics that were WAAAAAAAAY better than mine. Plus I did mention in my galleries that any fan art pieces can be used however one wants, for layouts, LJ icons or fun little things.

Why do I say that?

Because in the end, they're not my characters. Cad Bane, Garrus Vakarian, Jean Grey... they're not mine. They're Lucasfilm's, BioWare's and Marvel's. You get the idea.

Now I'm not saying that art theft in general is good. It's not. If this person had stolen my drawing and sold it off as a print, then I'd be all like 'Not cool, Zeus'. And if it were one of MY characters (i.e. Marianne, Zumzum, Irma, Liberty) then I'd have a reason to rage. And if they'd traced 'em, I'd have some concern, primarily because most of my drawings are based off of stock references and I'd rather people like =SenshiStock get the credit and not me.

But for something as silly as a fan card? Ehhh, maybe it's just me being laid back, but that's the least of my worries.

Anyhow, just thought I'd share that.

I caved and bought the new DLC for Mass Effect.

It's... okay, but it feels like I could have put the $7 I spent on the MS Points on my MavCard for school. Oh well! But for the most part, I kinda like it. Haven't really gotten deep into it, tho.

The characters are kinda cool too. If I ever write a story adaptation of Pinnacle Station' (set after 'Blue on Black', of course), I'm sorely tempted to have Bryant flirt with Shepard (it's the way he looks at mine when you talk to him that gets me), but this time I don't think Shepard will reciprocate. ;]

And if the combat system wasn't your favorite part of the game, well... you'd be better off avoiding this altogether and getting something else.

Since it appears some people don't quite get my rather esoteric sense of humor (I'm not saying that in a condescending way. That's really how my sense of humor is), I just want to clarify a couple things about my comics (Mass Effect, the Clone Wars vore comic and potentially 'Star-Crossed Voyagers', my original series):

- I don't really take any of them seriously.

- I don't particularly care about being 'realistic'. I grew up watching cartoons where suspension of disbelief was required² so I think that subconsciously translates into some of my more madcap ideas, like Ovaltine being the Genophage cure.

- I do it for fun.

Like I often tell *digistardbz , part of the reason why I also do them is to see the reactions. It's funny seeing people be amused, confused or irate. Call me strange, but there you go.

So love 'em or hate 'em, that's just how I roll.

I'll delete this in a day or two to bring the Commissions for Cammi post back up.

Anyhow, this has been on my mind the last week or so, and a recent comment with another use did get me to thinking about it.

If I come off as rather cold, rude or somewhat blunt in a comment reply... I apologize.

FWIW, I don't necessarily intend to come off as outright mean. Though let it be said that I'm not exactly a fan of stupid/immature/juvenile comments either. And considering I seem to have a few below-17 year olds watching/commenting on my art, that's... yeah.

(Hence why on some images that I know will trigger such reactions -like the Banjo-Kazooie images, where I know some people like to launch into anti-Rare/MSoft tirades without ever having played Nuts and Bolts-, I will put a very blunt warning to not bitch)

I will do better to not be so crude in responses from hereout, though. I'm thankful enough to have as many watchers/followers as I do and I feel you deserve a little more respect than that. It's always been a pet peeve where the artist doesn't appreciate the fanbase they have (though in some circumstances, I don't blame them for being annoyed).

Comissions for Cammi!

I know I've asked/begged for commissions before in the past, but now is a time where I'm putting aside my own needs for the needs of someone. A dear friend of mine, whom I've known for many years now (close to about 7-ish) and is going through a rough spot.

Long story short, =cammiluna's mother has been in the hospital for some time now for health concerns. As such, bills have been piling up. On top of that, Cammi's mother also has to care for her son and grandson at home as well.

I'm the type of person who strongly believe that every little bit counts and I want to help raise some money, even if it's just $15 or 20, to help her and her mother take a little bit out of the bills and other needs they may need.

However, since college is starting up for me in a couple weeks, I can only take sketch commissions. They roughly will look something like this:

They are each $15-20. Additional characters are $5 extra, so one character is $15, and if you want two characters, it'd be $20.

08/09 UPDATE: If you cannot afford the sketch commissions, I will do sketch cards for a free-will donation (meaning you're not asking for a commission, but are donating just because you want to help Cammi out) under $15 dollars. They will look something like these:

If you donate $1-4, you get one card. If you donate $5-9, you get 2 cards. If you donate $10-14, you get three cards.

All the money raised from these commissions will go to =cammiluna's family.

For now, I will take up to 4 commissions (though I have some free time from work in the coming weeks before school starts. Long story) and I ONLY TAKE PAYPAL. Please send a note to me with 'Commissions for Cammi' as your subject header.

So I've noticed the Mass Effect-based gag comics (or one-pagers, I guess) are ranking up the favorites in my gallery. This pleases me, because YAY! I can actually do more than pin-ups!

But I'm just curious if y'all wouldn't mind the wait it takes for me to do a comic or if you'd prefer the pin-up type pieces.

Top 5 Cartoons

*zimeta08 asked this, but I figured my answers would be best suited for my DA journal.

In no real, particular order:

1) X-Men (1990's series)
- I could go on and on about why I like this, but in all honesty? The show doesn't hold up these days. The animation is really laughable (especially in comparison to its contemporary, Batman, though in fairness, BTAS had Warner Bros. behind them) and the voice acting is atrocious. But the Phoenix Saga had a profound impact upon me as a kid and it's stuck with me since.

Never really did see the Dark Phoenix saga, though...

2) Beast Wars/Machines
- What's to be said about BW that hasn't been said already? Even if it did get weird in the last season and a half, it's still a darn fine show. I loved that there were actually stakes, the good guys lost every now and then and really, how can you forget episodes like 'Code of Hero' or 'Transmutate' (which was actually the first BW episode I ever saw. Talk about first impressions!)?

Beast Machines, for all its warts and failings, isn't that bad of a series. If you take it as a separate, non-TF series (though Animated did techno-organics justice) it's pretty good. Plus you have realize executive meddling was what caused most of the problems (from surprise, surprise... Dan Didio. And you wonder why I refuse to read DC comics!). Either way, it's sorely underrated and hopefully in time it'll get the semi-respect it deserves.

3) Veggie Tales (pre-Jonah)
- VeggieTales these days is, sadly, an example of what happens of when your mission becomes corrupted by corporate greed and money. Of all the newer episodes I've seen since the movie, all lack the heart and sincerity that the earlier episodes have. ('Duke and the Great Pie War' was cute. I like Petunia too, but too little, too late) I think it's pretty easy to see the pre/post bankruptcy and departure of Phil Vischer quite clearly. Especially in the sore lack of creativity when it comes to story ideas (seriously, what were they thinking with 'The Wizard of Ha's'? They aren't even trying any more).

Which is sad to me, because VeggieTales brought me back to religion a few years ago. =/

Either way, I love the charm and wit of the earlier episodes and the movie as well. It's sad how things have turned out, but what else can you do?

4) Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack
- This cartoon reminds me of the good ol' early days of Ren and Stimpy, back when it was funny. Flapjack is so outrageously twisted, filled with 'did they really just do/say that?!?' innuendo and a delightful cast. It's not for everyone, but it's really one of the more underrated cartoons in recent years.

5) Star Wars: The Clone Wars
- Like Flapjack, this is the only cartoon, let alone TV show I watch these days. The movie itself may have been dodgy at points, but the cartoon show itself is awesome. Self-contained (save for a few three/two parters) and easily accessible to even those who are EU illiterate. Plus you can't deny that the Anakin in this series is WAY better than the one in the Prequels.

I've seen some people get their panties in a twist over it 'ruining continuity', which IMHO is a load of horsecrap. I like that it steamrolls over the EU in certain parts (Grievous especially, who IS NOT A WOOBIE. THANK YOU VERY MUCH MATTHEW WOOD FOR ESTABLISHING NON-WOOBIE GRIEVOUS!) and it does its own thing. I'm glad it's not bending to the will of the "canon fascists" and their precious EU. Go 'Clone Wars'!

Honorable Mentions: Reboot, Batman: TAS, Wolverine and the X-Men, Ren and Stimpy, Rocko, Angry Beavers, Sailor Moon, Lucky Star, Soul Eater, Doug, Galaxy Express 999 and Masters of the Universe 200x.

I KNOW there's someone over at ComicVine who's stalking my DA gallery (or has really good Google-Fu or Photobucket Sense), but I just have to ask:

I can understand putting this picture of Jean ( [link] ) in her Image Gallery, but why on Earth would you put two pictures of Beta Ray Bill from a (currently unfinished for almost 4 years now) purely alternate universe fan fic idea in his gallery?

I don't want to get into any pissing matches, since ultimately Bill ain't my character (no matter what I do to him in any AU/What If story) and I don't loose sleep over people uploading my fan art to random comic image galleries. I'm kinda flattered that someone uploaded the Jean picture at least, amongst all the better pictures.

But what really disturbs me about the two Bill/Beta Ray Phoenix drawings is this:

... They're not even drawn by me. =/

They have my colors, but they're not my drawings.

Y'see, I really, honestly don't mind if people share my '100% drawn-by-me' fan art around and upload it to places like ComicVine and all. Heck, go ahead and make LiveJournal icons with them for all I care, I'd be flattered.

But when it's someone elses' artwork with my colors... I kinda draw the line there out of respect for the original artist who graciously let me defile their work in the first place. Makes me wonder if the Psylocke by WindRider I colored or the Phoenix by Rantz is up there somewhere...

Like I said, I'm not gonna lose sleep over it or pitch a fit, but I do feel a little disappointed, since like I said... not my art/lines. Just feels kinda wrong to me.

Hm. Oh well.

Well, long story short, we have the computers back... but the internet still isn't working on either of them. Yet, anyways. We're calling the tech place tomorrow. Regardless, the computers are back and now I'll be able to scan/draw things a little more frequently now.

Sketch Cards

After reading a 'How to draw' ~jessasketch did for the official Star Wars website, I decided to try and apply the whole 'coloring over the pencils with the markers, then inking over' technique.

I think I've cranked out close to 12 sketch cards this weekend alone.

I've got some Star-Crossed Voyagers characters in there (Marianne, Zumzum, Lapis and Lucas), but there is some fan art. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised as to who I drew.

The computer should be back in the next couple days and I promise... there's going to be a HUGE art avalanche.

Okay folks, I still have limited internet and the primary computer is still in the shop.

But! I have been inspired for a new art idea. Here's what it is:

Sometime in July, I'm going to do a series of digital paintings (some with a pencil sketch to start, of course) based upon several levels in Banjo-Tooie. Why Banjo-Tooie? Well, it's the only BK game I haven't really gotten into and I've just now played it in earnest on Xbox 360.

It's a really colorful and large -emphasis on large- game and I think it could inspire some neat drawings. I probably should focus on 'Star-Crossed Voyagers' -and I will, don't worry- but I think it's time a tribute is paid to the ol' bear and bird. (After all, they pseudo-inspired Marianne and Zumzum's symbiotic friendship... only Zumzum is nicer)

Though FWIW, I'll probably have Humba Wumba as her 'Nuts and Bolts' version because I like that one better. So there.

Afterwards, hm. I'm not sure what. Maybe something 'Clone Wars' related, I dunno.
