depends on what im writing!! such hard questions...

yes, all of them.

only if i've written stuff on them, if not i recycle them :)

i draw/write better without music and distractions...

actual drawings that are finished? or just sketches? Last week over the course of 3 linguistic classes i drew 138 "sketches" on my note pages...

whatever i can grab quickest?

by hand: about 20 minutes

3. i consider my levels of masculinity and femininity to be pretty much equal. it would have been cool if i would have been born female and male twins :) ok yeah that's a weird thing with me. I HAVE A FASCINATION with twins! i know lots of twins born around or ON my birthday and im so jealous!!! i want a twin ;-; it'd be even cooler if my sister val was my twin...oh that'd be JUST TO FREAKIN' sweet! cause then i'd be prettier and im rambling >>;;

4. devin and i have both committed ourselves to sexual purity before marriage. yeah, it can be as sucky as it sounds sometimes, but we know it's right for us, and we couldn't be happier! unless we were married...than we'd be really happy :lick:

Hi there everybody!!

Finally, a note update! I've been very very busy these past few weeks at college...hence why many people back home probably haven't heard much from me recently (Im not dead yet!) So here I am...to tell you all about what's going on in my life right now! that is...of course...assuming you're interested ^^ IM NOT OFFENDED IF YOU AREN'T! Im not very engaging sometimes >>;; i know...

ACADEMICS:


J a p a n e s e:
I love my japanese class! all of my classmates are really funny, and they're all very dedicated to learning the language. Destin-san is in class with me ♥Armstrong-sensei has said that she can tell we all prepare and do our work ahead of time. She can see it in how fast we're progressing...and stuff ^^;;

My pronunciation is doing ok i guess...although i tend to put "mountains" or "stress" on certain syllables which isn't correct, and makes me sound funny. Japanese is a rather "flat" language; there's really very little stress or tone at all. it's something i need to improve on :)

Now for writing...heh heh....yeah. for those of you who aren't aware, the japanese language has three "alphabets". Hirigana is used for writing japanese words - it's a phonetic alphabet, like ours. Katakana is used for writing foreign words, stuff like "computer" and "television", etc. Then there's kanji, which are borrowed chinese characters used to represent words (aka you can't sound them out; you have to memorize them). Many japanese words can be written in hirigana OR with kanji. Lesson done! great job! >D

We have learned all the hirigana and katakana characters (138 total if you count the diaritical marks and do not include contracted sounds @_@). As far as hirigana is concerned, i've got it down pretty well...there are a few though that do confuse me a bit...because they look so much alike, but there's really no excuse for me NOT to have them down by now...

EXAMPLES OF THE CONFUSION:
nu = ぬ me = め
re = れ ne = ね wa = わ

then there's katakana...the absolute BANE of my existence >< Katakana isn't pretty or flowy the way hirigana is...most of the characters are simple, but they're made up of straight lines with sharp angles and such. Like i said...they're very simple (one or 2 strokes)...but they ALL seem to LOOK THE SAME! some characters are even other characters flipped vertically or horizontally...some have one extra stroke at the very end, some are the same just SLANTED! S~L~A~N~T~E~D!!! I don't have the best handwriting which is why it gets tough for me when im writing it!

Just another update from bucknell-land!

Everything is still going great, im on cloud 9! I sent little thank you letters to all my new friends for making my first week here an absolute dream come true. Lots of them have stopped by to thank me!! <3 they're all so wonderful! i love them all SO SO SO MUCH!

Classes are still going awesome! (im not dead yet...) but i do think i will be taking an official hiatus until i get my new schedule and stuff under control and i can find time to devote to art...it doesn't help that all this stress has given me a major art block (it's not that i can't think of what to work on...i have a whole LIST...but nothing looks good ><;) ya know? But i will be back soon...i promise!

Greetings once again from Bucknell!
(PLEASE EXCUSE ALL GRAMMAR ERRORS AND TYPOS! I was too busy to fix them...im a grammar nazi too but i have to cut myself a little slack >>;; )

Today was probably one of the happiest days of my life! and im going
to tell you why:

When I was first accepted into the Bucknell Community College Scholars
Program, I knew right away that i wanted to major in Japanese. i mean,
i've wanted to do that forever, and bucknell has a GREAT japanese
program.

Unfortunately, since i was transferring in as a junior (and bucknell
has an 8 semester rule: you graduate in 8 semesters or you don't
graduate at all), i would not be able to completely a MAJOR in
language without having to take ATLEAST one extra semester (with
special dean permission and counseltation) and my scholarship would
not cover it at all...i had to take 6 language courses and 4 culture
courses and spend atleast two semesters abroad STRAIGHT THROUGH in
order to make up all the credit. a living nightmare! i'd be soooo
overloaded. i'd crash and burn!

So i set off to discover a new major. i was considering lots of
different majors: classical studies (greek and latin studies)
religion, anthropology and comparitive humanities. I was kinda lost. I
mean, in order to do translation work (which is my ultimate career
goal), i will probably need graduate work anyway. So it didn't really
matter what my undergrad degree was in. I was leaning more towards
religion cause it's cool and i want to do missionary work in Asia
eventually.

I was actually writing in my prayer journal about my concerns about my
major - where was it going to lead me? I had no clue. So i just
trusted that when i had an appointment with my advisor that we would
figure something out...i let God have his way with me ^_^

AND THEN A MIRACLE HAPPENED!
I was talking to professor Lofgren (my advisor) about all my concerns,
and fitting ANY major into only two years blah blah blah. He looked at
me with a bit of a confused face. he looked at me and then at my
transcript. He kinda giggled and said...

"Ery...you're not a junior..."

HALLELUJAH! PRAISE THE LORD!
Now you may say - Ery, isn't that....b a d ??
THE ANSWER IS NO! and here's why:

as a transfer student, in order to have junior status, you must have
16 equivalent bucknell credits.
I only have 13.75.
Which means that i am a second semester sophomore.

WHICH MEANS...<>

BUCKNELL MUST COVER THE 2 AND 1/2 YEARS (or 5 semesters) THAT I NEED
TO GRADUATE ACCORDING TO THE SCHOLARSHIP!
so i talked it over with Prof. Lofgren. and he says that it is

Good morning to everyone!!

I arrived at Bucknell around 2pm friday and lemme tell ya, I am SO
happy and SO blessed to be there! I have already stumbled upon a great
group of people who have welcomed me with open arms! They're on my
floor, one's an otaku (die-hard Kyou fan!!), some are HP addicts and
they're ALL awesome! They have made me feel so at home!

I am completely unpacked, and i have designed my room as best i see
fit, although I realize now that there are a few things i should have
packed that i forgot ^^; I thought that i had forgotten my cell phone
charger, which would sucked very much badly so -__-;; they've given me
so much more drawer and desk space than i thought too! My room is only
slightly smaller than the one i had at home AND the bed is loftable,
and you know what that means! BUNK BED! oh yeah! XD my dream here is
to put the bed up top, and then put my desk underneath it. In it's
place (eventually when i have MUCH more money) i would like to get a
futon (the kind that turns into a bed) for when my (female) friends or
my sister comes over to stay the night with me! if i can't afford
that, I'll get an air mattress and get a REALLY BIG COMFY study chair
to put there instead.


Anywho, I wanted to also give you guys my updated contact information

well, my week of absolute cosplay HELL is over!
I finished Jill's puppy costume in time for otakon (will post pictuers soon)
AND i cosplayed as an incredibly sexy snape and made the entire costume in less than 8 hours! boo-freakin-yah! (will also post pictures soon)

I have been working tirelessly on my harry potter comic with Devin. It's been so much fun so far! Wait till you guys see it...

Yes, i've started a small harry potter comicbased on my relationship with my amazing boyfriend devin! yeah, we're in this for the long haul.

My character's name is Eyr Hammond. yes it's just two of the letters of my name jumbled up. it's actually the old norse version of Eryka :heart:)
Devin's character is named Drostan Osterdoudt.
I'll tell you morelater. but it's with this comic that i've been experimenting with a new art style. it's sort of a combination between american comics and manga. i really like it personally, i feel like my pictures are turning out better :nod:

HI there everybody!

Yeah, I read all of HP: Half Blood Prince in a single day...:faint: now i'm incredibly tired and unfortunately behind on some cosplay priorities...

:bulletgreen: i'm an idiot. i forgot that TODAY was the day i was supposed to go to NYC for a global-warming summit with some friends from my college. i thought it was friday. yeah...so i missed out and really inconvenienced my friends...yeah...i feel like a real butt...

:bulletgreen: my mom and i haven't fought or argued in 4 days! :w00t!: and that's a big deal! we've both been working really really hard to have a better relationship and it's going pretty good so far!

i am finally home from ireland! :boogie: it feels so great to be home!
i had an amazing time, but boy did i miss the states!

i'll give everyone a quick rundown of what i did:
day 1-4: sight-seeing, touring and shopping in dublin
day 5-8: political talks and interviews in belfast
day 9-10: relaxing and hiking in doolin

i have TONS of pictures, i will upload a few of them very very soon! Ireland is a gorgeous country! it really is! :nod:

It'll truly be an adventure! I'm so excited! My first time outside the US...

So yeah, I was greeted at deviant today with 81 deviations and 66 messages :wow:
that's A LOT for me...HOLY SNAP! I've been so busy running around trying to get my freakin' passport (lemme tell ya I DON'T remember that part fondly...) and packing for Ireland (I am allowed ONE small bag for 10 days. It's not hard for me, it's just picking what to wear since the weather is gonna be SO unpredictable!)

Devin and I celebrated our one year anniversary yesterday!

OH and I've decided that I want to post / start working more vigorously on one of my manga! I wanted to know which one you guys would be more interested in reading/hearing more about :nod: I'm not going anywhere with some of them cause I think I'm spreading myself to thin - I should just be focusing on one at a time...

This is a HUGE scholarship/honors program that is only available to three people from my community college! And I'm one of them! My good friend Winny is another one too! I'm so happy right now, it's surreal! It really is!

It's sponsored by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. Basically, for the next two years, I get my tuition, room and board PAID FOR! In total, that's $42,000 for just one year! And all I pay for is food and books! That means that through academic scholarships, I HAVE WILL NOT HAVE PAID A SINGLE CENT FOR 4 YEARS OF COLLEGE EDUCATION! I LOVE THIS SYSTEM!

I am so excited! Bucknell is everything that I'm looking for!

It's all about stereotypes:

I have a funny feeling towards stereotypes -
I don't really have a problem with them, nor am I offended by those who pertain to me. And before I get flamed - here's why:

Stereotypes are just an outward expression of a very human tendency that is inside of all of us. The tendency and the desire to categorize everything we see so that we may better understand our surroundings and our situations. We are always seeking to categorize everything around us - it makes everything easier to understand. Like sorting blocks into color, shape and size when you were a kid. How would you know something was big, or blue or square if you couldn't compare it to something small, green and circular? We all do it. It's a large part of our thought processing. But when you have one that could fit into numerous categories, you take whatever it's "mostly" and put it in there. Is in an incorrect categorization? Probably. But that's how it works.

It takes an immense amount of effort to overcome this tendency. And I don't claim to be there completely either. I can't believe that anyone is. It's a very human thing to do. I don't blame anyone who believes in these stereotypes...but it is in their best interest to disregard them. I spend a lot of effort trying to do the same. I've found that since doing so, I am a happier person.

I'm one of those people who I am often categorized and mistreated due to THESE thinking patterns. Why? Cause I'm a white female American Christian. SO naturally everyone knows exactly what I think...right?

For those of us out there who find ourselves outside these stereotypes - don't ever stop! And really ask yourself how true these things are. If you find that they are true to you, then do your best to change it! And let others know as well! Education is the greatest gift you can ever give to another person, even if it's as small as proving to them you're not who they assume you to be.

I care about the ENVIRONMENT...I MUST be a tree hugging hippy
I DISAGREE with my government, so I MUST be a TERRORIST.

I would especially like to add a few ones to this list about being a Christian.
I feel as a group, we are TERRIBLY misunderstood because of a few people who share our faith made some very large mistakes, past and present...and literally destroyed our world image forever more. I got a new phone! Hooray! My old one was all scratched and got almost no signal anywhere! It was four years old :tears: It was also the phone that Scott McNeil (Yes! THE Scott McNeil! Voice of Kouga and Duo Maxwell!) used at Otakon 2005 to call my friend Ali and tell her he was giving up on Kagome for her. God that was so funny! :lmao: And it's all true!

I'm keeping that phone forever! He was so nice and patient, considering we were all annoying and screaming fan girls :unimpressed: He signed it after I stood in line for 8 hours the next day.

Yeah, I used to be a fan-whore like that. But not anymore! :nod: Thank God...I don't see why I had friends sometimes :shrug:

Still no word from any of my scholarship groups OR from Bucknell University (the college I REALLY wanna go to...) But I'm still hopeful!
:pray: keep me in your thoughts and in your prayers if you would! If I get accepted at Bucknell, I will get to go COMPLETELY FOR FREE! ROOM/BOARD, TUITION COMPLETELY PAID! My family doesn't have enough money to send me to college otherwise. This is an amazing opportunity and even if I don't get it, I'm so happy I made it this far! But yeah, I really want it...:blushes:

Honors project for Cultural Anthropology (due wednesday, not done)

I'm REALLY REALLY behind, so again I will postpone any new art...I have the sketches done, but nothing is inked or colored yet. This is gonna hurt my traffic but oh well :shrug:

I still haven't heard from any of my other colleges yet. I know it's only the beginning of April, but as of now, I have no idea what state I'm going to be in, come september. It sucks! :doh:

I'm working on two pictures right now, one is of 's wolf-boy character. I love little wolf-boys. :heart: I love them so! :blowkiss:!
The other one is I'm going to ink a drawing for because he asked me to :nod:

I will eventually get around to drawing/coloring a picture of another one of Jill's characters named Dayan (he's very..."blue"...but still bish :heart:), and my own catgirl character.

I'm going to be inducted into Phi Theta Kappa and Chi Alpha Epsilon this April! They're honors societies for junior college students like me who work hard and (in the case of CAE), happen to be poor.

Thanks so much to everyone who was concerned about me. Basically college / life / finances / lots of other stuff got in the way. I haven't stopped drawing, I just stopped posting. I did miss it though! Thank you for all of your love!

6) The only reason I like Uchiha Sasuke AT ALL is because he reminds me IMMENSELY of my boyfriend...yeah...mix sasuke and rock lee and you've got Devin!!! A FAN GIRLS DREAM COME TRUE!!! The ultimate compromise for sasu/saku and lee/saku fans!!! Although I'm nothing like Sakura really :shrug:
