Valendor Chronicles is a 56-page book, containing 4 illustrated short stories and 1 prose story. Two of the stories in the book are illustrated by series penciler Brian Brinlee, while the others from guest artists. The book features a reprint of the short story that started the Sky Pirates saga just 2 years ago this month, An Easy Prize. The other story illustrated by Brinlee, Letter of the Law, takes place in current time Valendor and involves some familiar faces.

Blood Feud is the third story in the Chronicles and is beautifully illustrated by Chris Ring. It is the first in a 3-part saga depicting the origins of the Dagger of Night first introduced in SPoV Issue 2. The fourth story, illustrated by David Woodward, is a light-hearted tale featuring two very familliar SPoV characters. The story is entitled Mouse and Cat and is a tribute to the Tom and Jerry property.

The prose story in the book, Cloud Breaker, is a very special one. Based on a concnept by Brian Brinlee, it tells the story of a different group of pirates living in Valendor. Cloud Breaker is written by Stephen Carr and is his first published writing. The excerpt is the first chapter in the ongoing story, set to appear in future issues of the Valendor Chronicles.

This book, and the full 5-issue series, will be available for sale at the multi-genre convention, Connecticon.

We are happy to announce 3 opportunities for Guest artwork coming up for Sky Pirates of Valendor.

For a New York Comic Con release, we are publishing two books that will be accompaniments to our 5-issue miniseries. We are looking for a minimum of 5 cover-quality greyscaled pinups related to the world of Valendor, or the crew of the Rogue's Revenge. We want the very best for these pinups and those chosen will receive 5 copies of the book your artwork appears in.

The 2nd opportunity is a Sky Pirates Calendar. That means we are looking for 12 artists who would be willing to produce full color pieces of artwork. Once the artists are chosen, artwork specs will be provided and each artist chosen will receive one copy of the calendar along with a free set of Sky Pirates of Valendor miniseries. Artists will also have the option to purchase additional calendars at cost. Again, we are looking for the very best in this project.

Current Sky Pirates team members are not eligible!

Well I am excited to tell you that the next couple of months are going to be exciting times for the Sky Pirates Team. Our Issue 4 is taking a bit longer than expected to get finished up but I can assure you it is worth the wait. We should have some news on its release very, very soon.

For now, though, I would like to share with you some information on the Comicbook Artists Guild. CAG is a non-profit organization dedicated to the networking, education and support of comic book creators, writers and artists alike, regardless of amateur or professional status, skill levels or talent divisions.

CAG is currently very interested in expanding its membership among manga and webcomic creators. We have 2 projects that are in progress geared directly for those genres. To join CAG, it is just $25.00 a year and this entitles you to access to a growing worldwide network of artists to share talents and techniques. For those in the areas of our chapters, we hold monthly meetings where members can participate in Guild activities and share their current projects. And, we are always eager to build chapters where we currently are not.

Creator/Artist Opportunity Available for this weekend - Help Needed!

Everett and I were supposed to attend a Star Trek convention in Boston this weekend. At the very last minute, the promoter canceled the show. People from all over the country have plane tickets to fly in for nothing.

From this misfortune, something amazing has happened.

The fans attending the show have rallied together and are planning a smaller scale United Fan Con for this weekend and it is being held at the Hilton Back Bay in Boston. Right now they have NO GUESTS! So I had the brainstorm to contact the new promoter, who just happens to be the same guy who promotes the Springfield show we go to every year. He is very interested in having any creator and/or artist who can make it to Boston.

Unfortunately Everett and I made other plans after we found out it
was canceled. But I think this is an awesome opportunity for any creator in the area to take advantage of.

For those who don't know, Sky Pirates of Valendor is a 5 issue mini-series published by Free Lunch Comics. Captain Tobin Manheim and his crew have been assigned to rescue and return a mysterious "traveler" who has been kidnapped. For some strange reason, she is very important to the Governor of South Gate. It is Tobin's job to figure out where she is (easy), determine how to get her out (tricky) and bring her back to the Governor (next to impossible!). One lesson that a pirate learns from the beginning of their career is that nothing is easy. However, Tobin and his crew wonder if they will ever accomplish this mission. But more importantly, who is this "traveler" and why is she so important?

I am honored to share with you all that for the first time EVER!, the creator, artist and inker for the popular series, Sky Pirates of Valendor, will be appearing at 3 separate locations at the same exact time.


Tomorrow is the big day and we are so excited!

So, if you are in Dallas, TX, come pay a visit to Brian Brinlee, the talented artist of Sky Pirates. He will be at CAPE! 4 at Craddock Park in Dallas.


Then, if you are in North Carolina, you must go to the Comic Monstore in Salisbury and Michael W. Kellar, inker for Sky Pirates, will be there to celebrate Free Comic Book Day and their 5th anniversary.


And, if you are in New England, come down to Stillpoint Comics in Fall River, MA.


The dynamic creator of Sky Pirates and his promotional goddess, Everett and Sue Soares, will be there ready for the convergence of fans!

In all 3 locations, we will have copies of the first 2 issues available for sale.

Well, we are just coming back from New York Comic Con. We had an awesome time meeting the fans and showing off our artist, Brian Brinlee. I will keep you all posted as the various podcasts we did over the weekend are posted.

But on to the next adventure - Free Comic Book Day! I am immensely proud to announce that Sky Pirates of Valendor will be represented in 3 separate locations across the country. Everett and Sue will be appearing at Stillpoint Comics in Fall River, MA. Brian will be at CAPE! 4 in Dallas, TX. And Michael W. Kellar, our inker, will be at the Comic Monstore in Salisbury, NC, as they celebrate their 5th Anniversary!

In preparation for this exciting event, I am designing a Sky Pirates Sketchbook. We will be including all of the various guest artwork we have received over the last year and a half.

I know it is last minute but if there is anyone who would like to submit a sketch of our characters to be included in the FREE sketchbook, please send it to me by Saturday April 26th. Please send 300 DPI Black and White Sketches in TIFF format to skypirates@freelunchcomics.com.

A year and 2 months later - we have 3 published books under our belt, and we are appearing at New York Comic Con as creators. That is just a mind blowing revelation.

We invite all Sky Pirates fans to visit the Free Lunch Comics Booth #2265. Not only will you have the chance to meet Everett Soares, creator of Sky Pirates. But, in his first ever convention appearance - Brian Brinlee, principal artist for Sky Pirates of Valendor!

Both Everett and Brian will be available throughout the entire weekend. However, if you wish to catch them together, come by Friday night from 5pm to 8pm. They will be available for autographs and Brian will sketch your favorite character for just $25.00!

Everett and Brian are also excited to announce the premiere of Sky Pirates of Valendor #2 at New York Comic Con. Copies will be available all weekend!

For those who are not familiar, Wowio is a website that offers free membership and free downloads of an assortment of books. As long as you have Adobe Acrobat, you are free to join, download 3 books per day and read your heart away.

We are now accepting inquiries of interest. Any artist interested in doing an 8-page story for the Sky Pirates anthology should send an email to skypirates@freelunchcomics.com. Please include samples of your best sequential work. We would particularly like to have submissions from artists in the New England area who would be willing to do periodic convention appearances and signings.

Deadline for submissions is April 1st. The selected artist will receive the script by May 1st. This will be a deadlined project. We look forward to hearing from you.

Jolly Rogue Studios was founded by Everett Soares, 1st runner up in Small Press Idol 2007. Soares is currently scripting a 5 issue mini-series of his property, Sky Pirates of Valendor for Free Lunch Comics.

You can find pictures of Captain Tobin, Gearz, Bryan & Shyni in my gallery...Pinups can be of any of our characters, or all of our characters. We are looking for cover quality. All submissions must be full sized to fit on a standard comic book page, and are to be in Black & White or Greyscale.
You can do your piece in color if you would like but all work in the SketchBook Gallery of each issue will be B&W or Greyscale depending on how you submit your artwork.

In order to be included in a particular issue, see deadlines below:

Issue 2: December 31, 2007
Issue 3: Febuary 29, 2008
Issue 4: April 30, 2008
Issue 5: June 30, 2008

The Sky Pirates creative team will select 4 submissions per issue and each selected submitter will receive a free copy of their respective issue. Please send all submissions to evnsue96@msn.com or here at DA with name of submission and your name as well (so you can recieve your proper credit for your artwork).
