Some Words & Music:

The "key-word" for this whole year, in my life, is "changes".

Sold my car, sold my apartment suddenly and very fast... been desperately looking for a new apartment... stressful times... but I did find one, and now I'm taking care of all the paper work, banks stuff and starting packing things to make the move.

But, more than everything, my whole life completely changed during this year... a full restart!

Of course, with this all, I've been extremely busy, and very few time to shoot or to do anything else that I like... except to hear good music... that can be done anywhere, almost at any time.

So, I'm sorry for not always to comment your photos, reply to your comments or thank you for your fav's, but it's been very difficult to keep up. But very soon I will be back more often

With red high-heels on her feet, Rita Redshoes is magically captivating on stage. Her music is a fusion of pop, rock, a bit of cinematic melody and musicalÂit has completely dazzled PortugalÂs music scene. Not only with her charismatic voice, but also because sheÂs a songwriter, composer, and plays quite a few instruments from piano to bass guitar and drums. Her first solo album ÂGolden EraÂ was released on March 2008.

Tiny Vipers is Jesy Fortino, a musician, composer, song-writer style living in Seattle. Since her last and first album, 2007Âs Hands Across the Void, she has been back and forth across Europe, on tours into and through the United States.
She has a new album, released this year and that's how I bumped into her marvellous music.

First of all, I've been doing great... but very busy! Work, rearranging my life, and activities to have some fun... Went to a mountain climbing day again, and a wonderful 3 days weekend here

and before that, went to see the "Old Jerusalem" and "Dakota Suite" Live

and loved both.
Unfortunately, still not being here and updating the gallery as much as I would like, even because the free time for photography has been extremely reduced.
But, in time, things will slowly change...

I confess that I had never heard about this band, but their music is genial.
They are most known in the UK and they are famous and pioneers by their unique "melodic heavy music", influencing currently several other bands.

Last weekend I went finally to the "Casa da MÃºsica" (House of Music) in Porto. A expensive place built in perfect acoustic conditions for live music.

First part, David Kitt entered... I had no idea who he was, but I immediately got to know that he was fantastic!
I let you also with a small clip, recorded in Spain, of his performance on this tour:

After that marvellous first part, Tindersticks came in!
I'm a huge fan of this band! Stuart Stapples style is unique and the concert was unforgettable!

Also it's important to mention that this place made possible to get the best audio quality that I had ever listen in a live concert. Not even that "buzz" noise on our ears after the concert was felt! Simply fantastic!!!

It's with a Tindersticks theme that I bring you this week Journal, that I seriously advice you to listen until the end, and let you know that this is one of the best bands that I admire, not for a single music or album, but for all their history of great music quality!

So I won a Panasonic TZ-5

Even though this was not the main reason that made me participate on the contest, I always liked very much this TZ series of the Panasonic Lumix! So I'm also very happy with the award

But most of all I'm very thrilled, and still waking up of this dream, to have won and have my name published on their site.

After all the bad luck and several delays and lots of confusion, things seems finally to be getting on back on the track.
After one month without camera, on a series of unexpected events, Sony decided to give me another camera!
My new A700 should be in my hands soon... hopefully next week.

At same time, I was giving a few lessons, lots of work and travelling the last 2 weeks to Lisbon.
This has created here a huge list of messages and images to see...
So I would like to apologise if I didn't comment several photos (some I just clicked on the

) and if I didn't answered a few people, but it has been really complicated to me!

... and for this week...

I have already mentioned once David Fonseca but only published a Christmas version of "Little Drummer Boy"...
This time I bring him again, with some of his original work!
Finally his name begins to be known a bit more across the world, as in Greece, for example, his last album was a great success.
Themes like Kiss Me ([link]), SuperStars ([link]), the crazy videoclip of his version of Rocket Man ([link]) are some great works that made success from his last album. Lots of other themes on the last 3 solo albums made huge success, like Someone that cannot Love ([link])... love this one as well...

But, as usual, I try to bring something different, and it's no exception for this week's theme. This fantastic composition has lots of different sounds & background voices, and the result gets slightly more crazy... and even if it sounds strange at first to you, listen it until the end because it is indeed a fantastic theme as well.

I'm a Neil Hannon/Divine Comedy fan for long long time. It's probably one of my real favourite bands/singer/composer.
Missed the opportunity of seeing them live on 2001 and been waiting for another chance since then.
The next song is a perfect description of platonic love.
You can easily identify yourself, in some point of your life, by this song! Or most of your life... No? Anyone? Is that just me then? hmmm ok... moving forward...

I had no idea of the existence of it, until a friend of mine published a few songs taken out of it. The OST is all made by Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam's lead singer), and the movie is directed by Sean Penn.

Have you ever felt in the needed to escape? To leave the society behind false morals, rules, away from all the pressures and stress?
This is a "must see" movie, made out from a real story.

So don't count much with my presence around here, for at least the next 2 weeks

Apart from that, I have to say that the Chinese Open Ceremony for the Olympics was indeed something spectacular to see, even on TV. Really amazing.
My congratulation's for the organization and for the country for that! Also, good luck to all the athletes... but of course I'll be watching more carefully the Portuguese ones, that as usual, are forgotten by most of the country during years, and each time the Olympics start, everyone expects too much from them. In most cases, without any economic support, they try on their own to do the best as possible.

Even harder to believe as so many artists with absolutely no talent fall in the hands of some 'Gods' that make them famous, just because they are pretty or because of some current fashion.
Some of the Tops pretty girls and boys and the rappers (with lots of gold and women around them, making the watcher believe that they can get any women they want) lots of times, they don't even sing live. It is in fact incredible that this still happens these days.
The manipulated Top lists, make people believe that some artist is really selling lots of albums, and unfortunately this idea does works... with also a few exceptions.
They're all just a bunch of puppets!

And on the other side, you have great wonderful artists, great composers, that didn't had a bit of luck. But they're out there...
With some luck you'll find them... just have to keep on searching...

As I told on the previous journal, I went to see Cat Power Live @ Porto's "Coliseu".
The concert was absolutely fantastic. She's a great live performer, very good musically, great musicians, her voice is great and "real"... and she sings perfectly tuned.
The live versions of her music are great, and sometimes quite different (improved) from the CD ones. And you feel her energy and pleasure of being there.
In the end I got the feeling she didn't want to leave the stage. Almost seemed like she was dragged out of the stage by other musician

She's the kind of person who you can feel that her life is about being there playing and singing live.
So, I seriously advise everyone: go see her playing live if you get the chance... you won't regret it!

... and for this week...

Today's band has only 2 albums... Everything All the Time (2006) and Cease to Begin (2007)... but they are already well know, by those who try to escape the 'manipulated' popular Tops.
I'm talking about Band of Horses, and I seriously recommend for you to hear this following example of their music.

And just got my new camera! Sony sent me a new A700 working perfectly.

Sony Portugal were absolutely fantastic the way dealing with this and for all the attention they gave me. So, I'm very thankful to them and much more happy now with the result of the first tests

In near future, I expect to have new works being published here again

... Cat Power will be here playing live, on Porto's Coliseu (Portugal) next week (May 28th), and of course, I will not miss it this time

My brother and my sweet sister-in-law are the responsible ones for that

Still waiting for my new camera here. According to Sony, it will arrive today or tomorrow to Lisbon and on the next day to me

Meanwhile I'm getting desperate... getting crazy... 2 weeks without shooting... wow that's a lot lol.
But Sony continues to make a wonderful work that I appreciate a lot.

... I chose an instrumental music with a nice video that includes extreme sky diving and after landing on the water, the dayvan cowboy continues surfing lol... that's a pretty nice concept anyway!
But the music is also nice and I recommend!

First of all, I would like to say that I'm officially a cameraless man!
After selling my loved Sony A100 and buying a new A700, I started to detect some problems that initially I thought they were caused by that usual problem called "The owner's stupidity"... and that wouldn't be such a surprise really! But after a more careful approach I realized that indeed (also) the camera was not working well.
Mostly it's the auto-focus that isn't working correctly!
So now I had to return it to the seller, that sent it to Sony Portugal... and honestly I'm nervous and curious to see how well (or not) the camera will get back to my hands! I've asked for a new camera, instead of the repair... but let's see what it will happen!

All this just to say... no new pics from me, until this is solved...
...unless I find something that is not terribly bad on my older ones

*UPDATE*
Well... Sony did it again

They verified the malfunction of the camera... then sent it to France (Alsace) for repair.
Meanwhile Sony decided to just send me a new camera!!!

Probably will receive it during next week

... and for this week...

...something different!

With 2 albums on the end of the 90's, this british band,Kula Shaker is recently back again.
Not many bands can maintain their "magic" when playing live! But they can...
You better raise a bit your volume, this live video was somehow recorded a bit lower than usual, but for sure you will love this performance...

Composes, writes lyrics, plays different kinds of guitars, drums, harmonica, acordeon, piano and synthesisers, makes the main voice and chorus voices (even opera-like voice when it's needed) and others... participated in humorous shows "joking" with music with brilliant results, made jingles for radio programs, love polaroid photography... And the results of the live shows are absolutely brilliant!
This is an artist that you cannot forget!

This time I chose a cover of "little drummer boy" made by him and published freely on the internet, on his own very personal style. As always, on this kind of initiative, you see him playing all the instruments on the video...

This is another band I recommend.
I got in touch with this band for the first time, when I saw a marvellous movie, the first from Sophia Coppola - The Virgin Suicides (Air's OST).
This is a movie that you can't miss also!
And this is a band, with a fantastic career to be on our "watch list"!

This is a band that I got to know since their first album, in 2001 (Simple Things).
Already nominated in 2 different albums for the British Awards in 2002 and for the Grammy's in 2007.
