I realize that in the past year or so, I've accumulated a million and three messages here. I don't mean to neglect my devart account, it's just that life things come up ways that you'd never ever have imagined.

About a month ago, I had hand surgery, which means, yes, I'm not going to be very good at that hand for a little while. That hand happens to be my dominant hand, which makes everyday things a difficult chore for me. It frustrates me to no end that I can't draw, and I can't write. Typing is still pretty painful, and you can be sure that I'm going to have a badass scar on my hand to show for it.

Until I can fabricate an elaborate story about how I *should* have gotten a scar this badass, I will just have to say it's recovering from surgery, and reap pity-rewards .

Anyway, for the many many people that I owe an explanation to for my disappearance around these parts, that's why. And I guess for those of you who were just curious too.

I actually have been slowly going through my messages. Very very slowly. Someone found me here from my voice work in a Final Fantasy IX dub, and I somehow managed to see their message somewhat quickly after it was sent to me.

Talk to me! How are you? What've you been up to? Are you dating anyone now? Have you moved? Goodness, so much to catch up on!

But of course, that kicks me in the arse when I come back and there's something like 1200 here. I've been slowly whittling away at them, but it'll take a while before I get back on track.

Everyone's Christmas giftarts are fanTASTIC.

Speaking of Christmas giftart, I got the Pepper Project artbook for Christmas. Some of you have been hounding me to get back here, so here I am with a bit of an update as to what's going on and why I've migrated away.

This year, I took up voice acting, so it has been keeping me busy aside from me full-time job of software developer.

As an addition to the voice acting world, a friend and I have started up a radio station for audio content -- and, ~deathsun you'll love this -- that's either licensed under the Creative Commons, or things derived from Project Gutenberg. The project is nearing launch, and what we need now is content, so I've been scouring about looking for people to submit their content for broadcast.

Yes, that includes podcasts.
I'm so utterly stoked! I just saw my gift from the ~SecretSnowflakes holiday art exchange. It totally blew my mind to see someone I created and imagined onto paper redone in someone else's style -- and in an awesome pose too. *fwee*
I'll post up a link tomorrow once *kiyone posts it up in her gallery! It's such an awesome job, and I love the little things that make it look so solid.

It's another 20 minutes away for my New Year to start, and I'm just itching to post the gift I drew. Looking back at it, I hate it again, but I did spend a lot of time on it, and I was proud of it when I finished. Perhaps tomorrow morning. I might even add some little touches to it before I post..

But, I hope everyone had a great holiday, and will have a happy New Year! I'm not entirely sure what's going on tonight, but it will probably involve a lot of wine-drinking. O_o

It sounds like a lot of you had a good holiday! What did you guys receive for gifts? What did you give? What were the things you did for art exchanges, if you were a part of any?? What's [insert local holiday here] like where you are? Mostly, it's the standard Christmas here, so the malls have Santas in them for photographing with children, Christmas music plays nonstop on some radio stations (a lot of the songs are rather blah covers done by today's popular singers), and lots of people string Christmas lights in their yards. My family hasn't really put up any Christmas trees in the last few years, and I guess I don't miss it much because I've outgrown it. For me, it feels like it's more for the kids, so it makes sense that I'd have outgrown it by now. I guess when the next generation of kids come, it'll start up all over again.

I've been thinking about having a print sale along the lines of:
4x6 or 5x7 prints: $4 for the first, $2 for each additional one.
8x10 prints: $6 for the first, $5 for each additional.

Shipping is $5, I believe, and you have your choice of glossy or matte for each print. There are no limits on which of my images can be made into prints, only the print sizes are limited to the original image's quality.

Unfortunately, only some images can be made into 8x10 prints, so if you're interest, please Note me and we'll discuss everything to your liking before payments and such are made.

I went to a Matthew Good acoustics concert last night. It was most awesome!
-- except for the asstards infront of me. They put a nice dent in the wonderful experience.

So let's talk about them first to get them out of the way. They were the sort of people who were total fratboys in college, then got out of college (whether by expulsion, failing, or graduating by the skin of their teeth), and continued to be fratboys, then fat fratmen, then just plain losers. They were at the loser stage. The guy in front of me wouldn't stop holding up his Matt Good shirt to admire his new purchase. Good for you. THERE ARE PEOPLE SITTING BEHIND YOU. Quit blocking my view with your fat ass shirt, and stop TALKING. We're here to see and HEAR the artists performing, jerks. So how about you shut up or get tossed out? And please, STOP shouting out idiocies. Just because you're here to see him doesn't make you any bigger of a fan than anyone else around you. Stop drawing idiot attention to yourself. It's humiliating for me to be sitting in your vicinity.

Also, to all the people trying to take photos with a flash. STOP. Just STOP. You have no idea how annoying it is to be up on stage with a million flashes going off while you're trying to perform. Also, the stage is lit. YOU having a flash is NOT going to help you get any better of a photo than no flash. So if you have a camera, for god's SAKE, learn how to turn the flash on and off. It's VERY simple. How about you use a wrench for a chopstick eh?

On to Matthew Good, then.

It was a wonderful performance. Within seconds of starting his first song, it's easy to tell that there's little to no synth work in his album recording. His singing was spot on, unlike several other stage performances I've seen before. Even his speaking voice is very unique. It's amazing how unadulterated his voice was, and how that is a large portion of his charm in singing.

Thanks for your great sense of humor, Matt, and for not hurling your limited edition Mac of special powers at the idiots sitting infront of me, because I would've gotten a lot of the splatters. He actually bitched about the Canucks' jerseys, which I found utterly hilarious.

He's also one of those people who can tastefully use the word 'fuck'. He doesn't abuse it, he just uses it where it's appropriate. It's really hard to find people like that nowadays.

The stage itself was a very simple set up, but to be honest, the LEDs really didn't need to be so blinding. 90% of the time, I was either squinting at the stage because the LEDs were directed right at the audience, or I had my eyes closed because they hurt from all the squinting. Aside from that, it was an awesome show. He sang all of my favourite songs, and a whole lot of really dark ones from his new album. It really was a great concert.

1) I love sexy underwear. Don't take this to mean skanky underwear. I like the things that cover up and leave a bit of imagining, but definitely reveals enough. I have classy tastes, yes I do.

2) I have a soft spot for hoodies. Almost anything with a hood on it, really. Sweaters, jackets, vests, shirts, etc. I like feeling that extra bit across my shoulders.

3) I love inventing recipes as I cook. The other day: barbecued chicken breast slathered in butter, rosemary, thyme, coriander, basil, balsamic vinegar, and soy sauce. Herbs give me an excuse to use the mortar and pestle as stress-relief.

4) I baby all of my belongings (usually). I still have a nursed Playstation in my room, and my 1.5 year old cell phone has yet to have a scratch on its screen.

5) Final Fantasy XII has become an obsession.

6) I'm a nerd at heart.

7) I'm very picky about my digital painting tools. I gave up on Corel so many times before they came out with Painter X. I actually stuck with Painter 6 until my computer could run it no longer (apparently, it doesn't work on widescreen monitors), wherein I finally gave in to Painter IX, and promptly gave up on that too. My hardware has never failed me though. The tablet I have is the same one I got 3 years ago, and it's just a tiny Graphire3, 4x5. I don't need a big one (actually, I don't even have the desk space for it).

8) I have a fascination with bunnies.

Every now and then, I look back at old things and want to fix them. A lot. A lot a lot. Then I look at some of the details and remember that I really liked those parts, why didn't I use them in my newer things?

I seem to be growing more and more unsatisfactory with myself. I think when I came here, I needed this place for learning. Now it's changed, and I've changed, and we're all going separate ways. The unsatisfaction grows. The more I try to look away, elsewhere for something -- inspiration, ideas, knowledge -- it seems like my hands come up empty, so I have to turn around and watch this place from a distance and hope it can influence me the way it used to.

Perhaps I'm in that downturn of a swing, when you're heading down to that low point where you feel segregated.

I remember when everyone was in an uproar about the dA changes. Everything that happened caused a lot of people to leave, but it also just.. sort of blew over after a while, and even those who caused the loudest ruckus stayed. I'm not saying that I prefer it to have been like a revolution, but I think I would've liked some more resolution to it. A lot of people said they'd go start their own community elsewhere. Others just said they'd leave in search of one. I succeeded at neither, but I'm still hanging onto my little thread.

LIST 10 THINGS ABOUT YOUR ART

i. I come from an extremely techy background -- something rarely associated with the artsy crowd. I have a BSc in Computer Science. My dayjob is being a code monkey. My dad is an electrician/production engineer. Yet somehow, in all this, I made the time to try and be an arteeste. I was always the one responsible for visual representation for any project we did at school.

ii. I started coloring as soon as I could pick up a crayon, but I didn't star drawing until a few years later in grade 3 or 4, and I watched anime dubbed in Cantonese: City Hunter, Sailormoon, Dragonball Z, Ranma 1/2, Doraemon, countless Studio Ghibli films, the list goes on. I'd hit the pause button, then try and copy the frame onto a piece of blank paper. I think I still have some of them somewhere. When I found pencil crayons, I was in heaven. Later, when I got a tablet in second year university, I had transcended into a mixture of Nirvana and glee at the thought of having an undo button.

iii. Anatomy is not an acquaintance of mine, I just pretend I know her. When I draw bodies, I try to stay away from the "draw ovals to represent shapes" thing, because I've found that all it does is make my poses too stiff and disjointed. I prefer to just sketch in curves that meet up, and I worry about anatomy later.

iv. I find it extremely hard to erase my sketchlines once I've got some lineart down. It seems like if I lose the sketchlines, all the flow in my lines will be gone, and I won't have a way to get it back.

v. I love experimenting with colors, but not poses. I think there's something inherently scary about perspectives and poses because I've seen so many people do a bad job at it.

vi. I always discover some neat new way to do something for one piece, but I forget all about it for the next piece. It makes for frustrating re-discovery each and every time. I swea I need to start writing down the little things that I do so I can incorporate every single thing I've ever learned from expermentation into my next piece.

vii. I *have* to be fast on a piece to get it done, or I drag my feet on it forever. I'm too picky to ever be fully satisfied with something, and I'm always distracted so I can never just sit down and go at a painting until I like it. I pick at little details every time I open the file, which doesn't accomplish much in a sum of 10 file-opens.

viii. I find that looking at what you're drawing from different angles and distances does wonders for your creativity. Gives you a chance to deal with the white space and the general everythings in an image.

ix. A lot of my images are inspired somehow by dreams and desires. Of course, everyone draws things that they think are cool, but my dreams seem to pop in when I paint, and cause me to add random things (does this mean I sleep-paint?) to the image, which I will later love for being so genius. Then a few months down the road, I'll look at it and ask, "What was I on?"

x. I sketched a lot in the margins of my notes in school. Usually eyes, noses, mouths, hands, and random sprays of hair. The odd whole person, or a simple cartoony representation of an animal (usually kittens and ducks). Almost every page had something doodled on it. I found it a good way to practice drawing in small spaces, and forces you to work on the details on each part of the body, rather than zoom out and take those details away. Of course, I think this now causes an interesting dilemma in my art, because now I've lost the ability to zoom out, and all I can do is dwell on little details.

I find myself in a very odd position nowadays. I have time to do those social obligations, like hanging out, socializing, being all ... social, etc. But what do I really feel like doing deep down in the pit of my little soul? Staying at home.
Well, things seem to suddenly have taken a huge turn downwards the last few days. I am so tired of people's social politics and games, I don't want to deal with ANY of it. The friends I have know that I'm straightforward, if not blunt sometimes. I refuse to play anyone else's head games. I'm tired of it all.

Anyhow, I feel like I'm a lot happier with Painter X than its previous incarnation, so that brought things up a bit yesterday. Note to self, uninstall Painter IX now that I don't need it to screw over my paintings anymore. X has a wonderful engine in it, and I love that it does what I expect it to do, rather than make me screw around with the pressure sensitivity of my tablet, and in Painter, then find out that it's all gone horribly wrong, and there's no way to restore that funny thing called Default Settings. I wasn't a happy little girl for a long time while I attempted to finish Nightmare in IX. I only wish that X had come out sooner.

Oh! And I couldn't just start using Painter X on a file that I'd saved in Painter IX, even though it's their proprietary format. Nope! What pisses me off is that Corel can't even keep proper compatibility between successive versions. Opening any paintiner from Painter IX in X resulted in washed out colors. And I mean washed out. I don't mean, "Oh the color profiles are off," I mean, "WHERE THE HELL DID ALL MY COLORS GO?!"

Anyhow, with that out of the way, it means I now have several megs of more free space when I get home to uninstall.

Oh, and apparently, I can paint in shapes without lines now. This was always a realm I refused to touch, because I was so insecure without any lines to guide me. Somehow, trying out brushes in X made a surrealistic dream I had suddenly appear on the canvas. I don't remember how it started, but it just.. formed, and before I knew it, I was painting a scene out in block colors only, and no lines.

Now that I think of it, the guy looks a lot like The Mask from those 90s movies and cartoons. Except.. less insane. And wandering through foggy bamboo. Oh whatever. I'm just glad that my sense of depth has somehow increased. Maybe lines were restricting me rather than guide me. I'm not sure anymore, but this is like stepping into a new frontier, guys! I feel proud, and somehow mystified by the fact that I hadn't tried it before. the thing is that I don't think I would've been happy with whatever I tried if I'd tried it earlier. Like working on Nightmare for so long actually increased my knowledge of depth and shape.

Or maybe the art fairy came by one night and said, "oops! Forgot about you. Sorry, you were the runt of the litter." And poof, I was given magical arting abilities.

Oh how I wish that were true. Then I could say, "OMG Stewy! I have my own fairy tale!"

[My apologies for this very strange and unprecedented rant. I think it's from blood loss.]

It's like a weed that grows meters overnight, and keeps growing every time you look away. I spent part of yesterday going through ALL of them. The official went down from around 300 to just over 50.

I *still* dislike the fact that they took out the ability to write comments right under a deviation (it used to be that you could open up a comment box right under the deviation, where you click on "Add Yours" -- but now, clicking on "Add Yours" just takes you to the bottom of the page, where the comment box is). Same with user pages.
I am currently waiting for Visual Studio's service pack 1 to install. UGH, I say.

Transformers last night? BRILLIANT. I'm going to admit begrudgingly that the little compromises to the original designs were okay. There was so much collateral damage, I actually winced. hahahaha. I liked it. Michael Bay is alright. This was his redeeming chance, and he took it. Also: they used Optimus Prime's ORIGINAL voice actor. WOO!

That leaves me with only one thing to say: BEE OTCH.

Wow, everything looks so compressed now that my sub is gone. I haven't seen the real devART in a few years, so it's like readjusting altogether, lol. I'm a bit annoyed though, because my shoutbox had all my friends and stuff pimped out in it, and now I can't do that anymore seeing as I've completely lost the list. Boo. I want to thank and for having subscribed me before, it was wonderful while it lasted! However, I don't think I'll become a subscriber again.. I wouldn't object to it if it were offered to me, yet I don't think it's worth the money right now. The servers run so terribly slow when I'm subscribed. It actually seems to run FASTER when I'm unsubscribed. I'm betting it's all the image servers that are bogged down.

Work Update: Still love my new job. We've just moved into our new building, and our office is soooo awesome. We all have Herman Miller chairs and cubes. My cube looks almost holographic because it's semi-transparent, complete with a sliding door. The commute to work is actually quite nice, way shorter than it used to be when I had to bus downtown for 40 minutes -- IF I caught the express. IF. Now it's entirely dependent on when I leave. -_-; The new office is right next to the major high way, which means it gets pretty damn backed up during rush hour. Ugh. I must find better ways around this problem..
I finally finished FFXII last night. The ending wasn't as hard as I thought it'd be. In fact, it seemed rather short. I can see how some people just charged on through the ending and didn't even realize it was the end of the game. I was actually half-expecting the game to continue on, but alas, no. Watching: FFVII: Advent Children, X-men III

Spring cleaning feels quite good to me. I haven't really had time to do real spring cleaning in a while, especially this past year, what with worrying about graduating and such, but that's all done now.

Yesterday, I went through my shelves and my pile of stuff on the floor and cleaned it all out. If I didn't need it, it was thrown out to recycling; if I wanted to keep it, it either went on my bookshelf or in a box full of my school notes. Believe me, I got a lot of stuff out of my room, and it felt good. "Hey, it's my calendar for university." *toss* "My old algorithm notes!" *toss* Many bad memories to be passed off into archival packing.

Today, spring cleaning applies to my online stuff. I've been trying to clear our my message box on devART haphazardly throughout the year, but things just keep building up, so I'm going to try to keep on top of it after I clean it ALL out today.

And I'm trying out Painter X....... WHY THE HELL DO MY PAINTINGS FROM IX LOOK SO CRAPPY?! I have them both open, and my stuff doesn't look all washed out in IX. Gah~!!!! Watching: FFVII: Advent Children, X-men III

As it was reported, this morning at 10:00AM, Mountain Standard Time, the Semester is officially near death. Its time draws short as its final heartbeats trail on irregularly and with strain.

It will be remembered as a Semester that sparked hope in Devlin, always dangling the carrot of freedom before her, reminding her that it was, indeed, the Final Semester Before Graduation. The semester also brought with it a lifetime's worth of frustration, as the Institution ported all of its Systems over to a PeopleSoft implementation that was admittedly unfinished, unrefined, and improperly designed for the situation at hand. The Institution's Registrar also saw fit to confuse and frustrate her as well, by inducing last-minute course cancellations, and arranging the weekly schedules in such a way that were not ideal to her required learning environment.

Finally, the Semester will be remembered as one that brought life-lessons to light that will most likely repeat after its passing. It re-introduced professors to Devlin that were wonderful to get along with, very intelligent and interesting, but could not perform their sacrosanct duty of instruction to the best degree possible. It was in fact quite conflicting when deciding if she liked or disliked a professor, since they possessed charming personalities, yet were utterly incapable of teaching, or were unfair in their examinations.

As the Semester's final hours draw to a close, we bid you be considerate of others in giving them the proper amount of alcohol to mourn its passing.

exdevlin@LJ - I hide a lot of entries, please leave a comment so I know who you are!

Japanese oral presentation (skit)
Astrophysics Ultimate Assignment

I hope that's it.. if there's more, I'm not prepared for it. Even though this is the Easter long weekend, I'll be spending most of it at school, on the computers, trying to desperately finish as much as I can to spread the work out a little more evenly.

On the art front, my humblest apologies to everyone I owe work to. There's just not enough time in a day for me to do all the things I require. My mode of transportation is also in need of a bit of fixing up, as well as a cleaning. It must be groomed, but it shall have to wait until a warmer day. It's been snowing almost nonstop since last weekend.

Final Fantasy XII has become even more of a mental obsession. I have dreams about the people in it, I hear the music in my head constantly.

Two things that have been crossed off my stress-list: fulltime employment, and a car!

Watching: FFVII: Advent Children, X-men III

Waiting endlessly for replies to my resume submissions. It's really very unnerving to just sit on your hands and wait with nothing to *really* occupy your mind. I do have schoolwork, but it's become so second nature to stress about school that it's really just an other thread spinning off my mind. Chronic multitasker here.
Got A BEST 2 -Black-. Mmm.. I love so many of these songs.

Also, I got a video adapter for my computer, so that means I can now play the PS2 in my room on my monitor.. Sweet! ^^

In other words, not much has changed.

I'm very slowly getting ideas for photoshoots, since I spend a quarter of the day staring in the mirror. I think I actually really like the idea of a photographer who can be very picky and very demanding as to placement of things -- because I have no idea how I look without a mirror mounted on top of the camera. XD

(Oh no, am I hinting at things? *shuts up*)

I'm reading through an academic paper right now (a conference paper actually) and it's so terrible that I had to copy and paste it into Word so that I could edit it as I went along. I'm picky about grammar I guess.. then again, I really can't be too hard on these guys. They're computer scientists in Poland. ><

I have quite a list of things to do... Japanese oral presentation (solo), and an oral test taken in the prof's office. Basically you must be able to converse witih her. That I CANNOT do. I can read things just fine, but not at the speed of fluency. Meep. This is not going to be good.

Well, back to work.

Video Game: Chrono Trigger for the SNES, Kingdom Hearts II, Final Fantasy XII, Dirge of Cerberus for PS2
Watching: FFVII: Advent Children, X-men III

Well, the "job interview" I had on Friday was actually just a one-hour 9-page test. The heck is up with that? I didn't even talk to the HR lady. I believe she's supposed to call me back eventually this week about some of my answers, which will be interesting, since I've purged most of it from my memory. Isn't it best to discuss the test right after you've taken it? And.. don't job interviews involve.. actual interviewing? *sigh* I dunno. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like this company's women are very... unapproachable. The HR lady AND the receptionist. They were both pretty cold during my time there, or maybe they're supposed to be to try and intimidate me until I get the job.

I find myself wondering where all the time has gone. It's almost mid-March. It means I'll be in school for only another 4 or so weeks. It also means that I really gotta get my ass going on this job hunt stuff. Seriously. I don't want to graduate and not have a job. I kind of need to afford a living, though taking a month of vacation would be nice. It's also hit me that I'll never get month-long breaks ever again. It's kind of depressing, really. But it also means I'll have more time for a personal life, that thing I've been neglecting for so long.

I've hit the sad realization that I'm not very good at languages, other than English. I'm very surely losing my Cantonese ability, and the French I've learned from childhood is practically gone. I'm still clinging to Japanese, but I swear I'll never get this "possibility form". I mean.. hanasu -> hanasareru -> hanaseru ? I'll never get this right. :/

I've been debating whether or not I want to enter the Otafest singing contest. I have no stage presence, whatsoever. At least real bands have the guitar players to keep the crowd entertained.

Watching: FFVII: Advent Children, X-men III

1) Girls who don't use the vanity mirror in public washrooms that is separate from the mirrors with the sinks. The vanity mirror is there for a reason. Use it. Don't take up the whole sink area with your bags and hair stuff while you attempt to put up your hair in just the right way.

2) People who walk really really slow in the hallways in groups of two or more. They all decide to walk in a line side by side, so you have to walk around a wall of people when they're too slow. Yes, I get road rage in the hallways of school. I know you're busy talking about whatever it is you're giggling about, but please, do it in the comfort of another place other than the middle of the hallway. This includes NOT congregating in the middle of moving traffic.

3) People who don't flush toilets. Did you not learn how to flush? You don't want me to find you. I have rusty paperclips, salt, and vinegar at my disposal. Don't make me use them.

4) People who talk about their sexual conquests in very public places. We don't want to know. It isn't a private conversation when the rest of the theatre can hear you.

5) People that unplug the computer stations in the lab so they can plug in their laptops. There are laptop docking stations. Not only are you taking up the space with your laptop, but you're now taking up the resources for an actual workstation that someone needs to use. If you wanna use your laptop to do your work, fine, but do it where there are actual electrical outlets instead of unplugging a workstation. Stop being greedy and taking up two computers so you can sit there and play your World of Warcraft and show your friends in the lab what kind of really funny YouTube things you've found. It shows just how much motivation you have to NOT be here.

With that off my chest, it is now the midst of mditerm season, so I.. really gotta get my butt off of devART and go study for Astrophysics.

I found out my final exam schedule yesterday! It looks like I'll be ending VERY early this year. FINALLY!! Every semester before this one, my exams always extended to the second last day of exams. Now I get almost a week off after my exams. Woot!!

And the jobhunt continues..

Video Game: Chrono Trigger for the SNES, Kingdom Hearts II, Final Fantasy XII, Dirge of Cerberus for PS2
Watching: FFVII: Advent Children, X-men III

I'm terribly terribly bored of half of my courses. They are so boring I actually WANT to sleep in them. Japanese has suddenly become a chore class, thanks to my professor. She doesn't make it fun so much as, "I'm half-assing teaching this course to you guys because I've never done it before, but I'm being paid to, so there." Apparently, she's making our class sing a very stupid song in Japanese at a speech contest... or some such. I am mollified. I don't trust her to choose a song for us, but now she's voluntold us to a speech competition. Just lovely. Really. I'm paying tuition for this kind of crap. I must be a masochist in the making, because if I wasn't before, I am now.

Software Engineering? Big joke. My prof apparently prides himself on how he can take a research paper and rip it apart. This is what he's been showing us in class lately, and it's just so dry that it makes me want to drift off. The guy's instruction is actually not so bad, but if he would have a better teaching attitude, it would probably help. He's one of those profs who talk down about everything, and make you feel like you're lower than him. Yup, time to sleep this guy off.

Databasing is going alright. I'm especially relieved that our project scope has been refined and more specific. We hadn't a clue what we were doing when we wrote the proposal, but now we at least know what the project actually will be. It doesn't sound challenging yet, but I can think of a few things we'll hit along the way. Hopefully we don't get snagged up in all the crap.. and I really hope all of my group members actually put forth some effort. There will be justifiable homicide if they don't.

Astrophysics is almost a snooze, except that there's way more math in here than I like, and it isn't the sort of easy math. There are logarithms and consonants to negative powers and integrals strewn all over the place like a rhino with diarrhea. It's ugly. My TA for this course isn't helping either, he seems rather.. pompous.

So enough about that.

What's everyone up to these days? I haven't talked to a lot of you in a while, either you've been busy, or I've been busy. I miss all my online friends. What's up? What's frustrating you lately? What's making you happy? How's your artistic progression going? Is there anything specific you're supposed to be working towards right now?

Watching: FFVII: Advent Children, X-men III

This is VERY simple. To all the people who watch me, and anyone who comes across my devART page.

I know we're all very very displeased with the state that the devART servers are in. Super slow response times, and frequent server drops. We can't accomplish a whole lot by complaining to the admins, and I for one, really don't want to let my subscription go to waste on a slow system. It was a wonderful gift, and I don't want it to be wasted.

So here's the dare. Clean out all of your old Notes, keep only the ones you really need. I am guilty of a huge backlog of 350+ messages, and I'm going housecleaning through them all. Also, if you have scraps that you honestly don't like anymore, get rid of them. Get rid of old journals that don't denote anything special to you anymore.

It's time for a little housecleaning. Cleaning up all that cruft will seriously speed things up. Imagine if everybody got rid of 10MB! You all know how many deviants there are on the system, you can do the math. We could free up hundreds of gigs if we all just deleted old journals and notes that are just sitting around.

So get to it! I DARE YA~ [link]

Watching: FFVII: Advent Children, X-men III

Having delicious soup can be deceiving. If the broth is a good temperature, it doesn't guarantee that the vegetables or any other lumps in the soup are too. I learnt this lesson in a rather unpleasant manner last weekend. Upon putting a piece of zucchini from a yummy barley vegetable soup in my mouth, it proceeded to burn my tongue. Not too bad, I thought. It wasn't so bad for the first few days, then I started to realize that.. hey, my tongue really hurts when I eat. I looked in the mirror, and sure enough, it had started blistering. A whole bunch of tastebuds had decided to explode and leave little craters in my tongue. It hurt. I lived for a week on purely icy drinks, like Iced Caps, and bubbletea. Anything with ice in it. Thankfully it's almost healed up by now.

I tag anybody who wants to do this (ie. YOU READING MY JOURNAL!).
The 1st player of this "game" starts with the topic "6 Weird Habits/Things About Yourself" and people who get tagged need to write a journal about their 6 Weird Habits/Things as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next 6 people to be tagged and list their names.

1. I've got the Rogue thing going on. Always did, always will.
2. I have a penchant for very small, solid-colored shorthair cats, like single-colored or calico cats.
3. Citrus fruits are intimidating sometimes.
4. I like beef and chicken more than pork. Sometimes, I feel like being a vegetarian though.
5. I like the floor to be clean, amongst all other things in a house. I cannot stand being at someone's place unless the floor is clean, or I get to wear my shoes in the place.
6. While I like things to be clean, I'm not necessarily tidy all the time. XD

I'm finally done my exams! My last one was on Tuesday morning (you can imagine my relief at the end that I had nothing to worry about anymore). It was my distributed systems exam, which was way less stressful than my entry-level physics class... which is just WRONG. No junior-level class should be 10 times more stressful than my senior-level class.

So, since then, I've just been working at the library. It's pretty nice to not have any worries hanging over your head, but at the same time, I don't wanna be at work either. I want to REALLY be on holiday. I came in at my regular time this morning, but since exam-season is over, they didn't even open the door for me until everything else was unlocked in the building.. I waited outside in the cold for 20 minutes!!! The guy who opens all the doors just walked by and ignored me.. T_T. Apparently, the escalator and everything above the main floor was more important than letting the employees in. *raspberries him*

I still have to wrap all my Christmas presents!! Eep! People have been taunting me about what my Christmas gifts are going to be.. I'm so curious and excited, but at the same time, I feel bad because I feel spoiled.

I considered getting a prints account here, since it was a one-time fee, which is good. Then today they announced that it would now be an annual fee. I'm a little bit sad that I didn't get a prints account beforehand. I suppose if I'd had foresight into this, I would've. Oh well. I can say that it peeves me somewhat.
Prints from my other source did come back though, they're super cheap, and look goooooooooooooooooooooood. So if anyone wants prints of anything in my gallery, please note me. (I predict that this would be like a $3 expense.)
While it is very pretty, I find some of the textures a little.. uncompensating for lighting, which is why it was probably a bad thing to take so many polygons out, but hey, it does look like it's the best a game will ever look on a PS2.
I've hit a point in the game where all I can do is level up my characters because I need the License Points. I finally found the +500HP square! Woo! Watching: FFVII: Advent Children, X-men III

Yeah yeah, I'm a few days late, but yes, it was my birthday this past weekend. What a good time it was.. relaxing, Decadent Chocolate Overdose, dinner, more dinners, and interesting chats that have brought about stress and worry.

For the people who've asked me what I want for my birthday and insist on me answering, here are some things that people can get me without me having to give out addresses and the like for them to be sent.
Birthday wishlist:
- devART prints account. As much as I don't want to give them money, here's the deal. If I ever end up getting a prints account as either a gift or outta my own pocket, I will sell prints, but ONLY on or very near the base price. I don't see a point in making mass profits off of devART because I can't. they take half the profits. . that leaves me with half of whatever profit that's made off of a print. Seems kind of ridiculous. So if I ever have a prints account I will sell prints at base price, or at most, a dollar above the base price for things that are bigger.. I'm not expecting to make a lot of money with these prints, it'd just be nice to have them available, no? Base prices are also fairly low, as indicated here. So say, I sell a print at $1.00 when the base price is $0.25. How does that sound? For anything that's bigger, I'd probably just charge at the base price. Do you guys think this is fair? Too cheap?
- various subscription amounts. Subscription is nice to have, just because I've gotten used to my laziness in the message center. My subscription won't be ending anytime soon, thanks to many people in the last few years, so this really isn't a huge item on this list.
- random prints. I'm leaving this up to people's own tastes. I think I'll set up a prints wishlist, at the risk of revealing my address to people. I'm not sure if you can send ANY print you want to ANY deviant, but if that's the case, if you buy me a neat print, that'd be an awesome gift. Does anybody know about this? I never got around to looking up info on prints.
- info on where I can have prints made. Some online website where I can send images in to be made as prints. Wouldn't that be wonderful? I used to have a cafepress account, but god knows what's going on there now..

Anyway, that's my little spiel on birthday gifts. Comments much appreciated!

Video Game: Chrono Trigger for the SNES, Kingdom Hearts II for the PS2, Dirge of Cerberus
Watching: FFVII: Advent Children, X-men III

What a weekend.

I'm not normally a superstitious type of person, but Friday the 113th really frustrated the hell out of me. It was already bad news when I found out at the beginning of the semester that I would have a midterm on that day. My pencil broke right before the midterm (no big deal right? I've got an extra pencil anyway). The midterm itself turned out to be a total whackjob. This prof has no idea what he's doing. It was written by the course director, but the questions are worded in such a confusing way from the way our prof teaches us. I ended up leaving my student ID on the floor by my chair where the exam was, and didn't realize it until the next morning when I went to school (yes, I went to school on a Saturday).

To give a bit of background, During off-hours, I need my student ID to get into the computer lab, restricted access and all that. I quickly realized that I didn't have my ID card on me on Saturday morning, when I was carrying a carton of food and a smoothie in my hand. I had to call my partner who was already in the lab to come open the door fo rme, and then I had to run over to the Engineering complex to find my ID card. When I got to the lecture hall, it was pitch dark. Perfect opportunity to use the flashlight that is my phone. In about 5 minutes I found my card and got the hell outta there. Thankfully. I really didn't feel like replacing my ID card for the last 6 months of my degree, and also replacing the bus pass that's attached to it. Yarr.

Oh, and my pencil mysteriously started working again on Sunday. Whatever..

I spent the rest of the weekend finishing up my distributed server project, and here I am now, trying to demo it, except for the fact that my TA is backlogged. :/ Boo.

It's the first wave of midterms. Physics tonight at 5:30pm-7:00pm, and then an Ethics in-class midterm next Friday (on my birthday of all things), and then another a few days after that in Distributed Systems.. wooo.. so much studying needs to be done for that exam. ><...

So what's new with everybody? Who's working where, who's in school, what're you taking, etc?

By the way, it will be ~fongmingyun's birthday as well next Friday. Go show her some love.

As you can see, my list of things to watch/do above has grown considerably. This does not bode well, by the way. Which reminds me, I need to update my journal sidebar with my todo-list. Argh. This is why I like Rainlendar. It's a really handy little todo-ilst. Unfortunately, it isn't that portable from computer to computer, so I attempt to use Google Notebook, and my agenda in my binder, which usually ends up getting very out-of-synch. I don't feel like getting a PDA for this express purpose either. It'd be fun to be given a PDA to program it though.

And now the big news! I saw Cirque du Soleil's Delirium show last night! It's the first of their shows I've ever been to live, and it was definitely more of a musical than it was an acrobatics performance. It was very VERY trippy, very colorful.. very orchestrated. I can't imagine how long it would take to set the entire stage up and take it down to travel from city to city. I think we recognized an acquaintance of ours in the cast! ^^. I won't post any real spoilers or details in here, it's really something you have to see for yourself anyway. I now understand why Joyce told me that it would definitely have been prime material for druggies.

Watching: FFVII: Advent Children, X-men III

I finally found a brush that I like! I found Digital Watercolor to be such a terrible tool. I don't understand why at light pressures, the colors start to dodge until I press harder (for example, if I'm coloring orange onto black at very very light pressures with my tablet, the spots that show up are 100% red, and some yellows). It doesn't make sense to me. I want Painter 6's watercolor brush exported to Painter 9 damnit. ><. I liked the way that brush worked and behaved. I've tried fiddling with the settings a bit to see what would happen, but I don't think it's really gonna do anything.. I worry I'll never find the perfect digital watercolor tool in Painter IX. I know the brushes are highly customizable, but it's starting to wear on my patience.

Video Game: Chrono Trigger for the SNES, Kingdom Hearts II for the PS2

... amazing amounts of distress. School's really starting to pick up. Ethics is actually one of the most boring things ever because we're going so slowly and I don't understand a durned thing. It's not really that I don't understand so much as I've given up on the essay-reading. It's useless.

I hate going to classes that I don't find interesting. It's just.. so very.. pointless. It feels like going through the motions and paying money towards a course I thought would be entertaining, but turns out isn't. I swear that the tuition period should extend an extra week so that we can decide if the class is interesting or not before paying our fees and being locked into a class. Or at least a short-term time machine be made available to us so we can take back those wasted hours of our lives.

I'm not bitter. Not at all. *scathing sarcasm*

It's also very obvious that they're trying very hard to increase some kind of participation in class. It's nice and all, but people just don't like speaking out in an entire class of silence.. most people anyway. I know the answers, I just don't feel like saying them aloud sometimes.. other times I can't people the puzzled looks on people's faces. I hope tomorrow's ethics course is more interesting than it has been the last few days.

Uwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah... Ouran's finished, it was such a sweet ending. I don't expect there to be another season for this, since the storyline's basically complete.

I need to stop my caffeine intake. It does absolutely nothing for me, and leaves a weird taste in my mouth.

Yay! I CSS'd my journal! Sorta. I'm SO proud. ^^

Took me too long to figure out which classes to customize and stuff. Blegh.

Sorry, I felt the need to do something wacky, because the following is one of those deathblows to my mentality for the day.

I just went and stumbled onto my prints thingy. I don't have a prints account, so all I got to see was a bunch of configuration stuff that I can't do anything with.

Then my brain went through a "Hey, it'd be cool if I had a prints account." Then I realized that it would be pointless and a waste of time. Nobody wants prints of my art. It just isn't good enough. I also realize that none of my older artwork could possibly be printed anyway, because a lot of it has been shrunken down in resolution for online viewing. I need to start saving the original larges. Or at least sorting them and storing them away, which I really should do. After a bit more looking, I also realized that I'd make absolutely no profit from any of my prints because of the ridiculous base price, and then the fact that dA takes half of whatever was above the base price. WTF?

All in all, it was a very traumatic experience for my poor little brain and heart. Ngyaaar. I realize, however, that this wouldn't have happened to me if deviantART had disabled the fact that I could even SEE my Prints Account settings when I don't even HAVE one. I disillusioned myself into thinking I had somehow obtained one without knowing it, before I thoroughly convinced myself that it was very impossible.

In real life updates:
I'm finding it difficult to actually manage my time for school. I probably shouldn't have gotten a part time job here, but I need some extra income to feed my mocha-habit. I also need warm drinks to keep me going anyway, since it's so bloody cold at school.

Time for class. guh. *runs off to class after having realized that this post was almost entirely pointless too*

Hikki's ULTRA BLUE is really starting to stick to my brain.
