Many shoots coming

What's up?

Well the plans are made and the troops are gathered. I have two major shoots set for August and a few minor ones until then.
The minor ones are single model shoots and have no set dates as yet, we'll see what happens there.

August 9th is a Steampunk Picnic set for Beacon Hill Park, here in Victoria. If your not familiar with Steampunk, its a combination of Victorian fashion and World War I. There is a lot of uses of gears and cogs and a taking of modern technology and giving it an old world wooden/brass look.

August 23rd is the Fourth Annual Victoria Goth Shoot. We'll be back at Ross Bay Cemetery this year, meeting at 10am. In past years we have shoot at the back of the Legislative Building, Beacon Hill Park, and Ross Bay Cemetery. Last year the shoot had 4 photographers and 3 models, this year is gearing up to be much bigger.

I am working on organizing this and am surprised right now by the response. If you are planning to attend please register with the Facebook Group or contact me at my gmail account.

If you are on Vancouver Island, or willing to come over to Victoria and want more information both shoots have groups on Facebook.

Goth Girl of the Week

Spring is here and it's long past time I posted a new Journal entry. The last thing that I posted here on DA were images from Kei-Kon 7, the University of Victoria's annual Anime and Cosplay event. My full gallery is up on my personal site NightShadows.ca.

I'm working with model Andrew Merpaw on a Steampunk shoot. Looking for some locations and Andrew is waiting for a few more pieces to come in the mail.

After Andrew I hope to shoot a Spring Goth shoot and maybe even get together some Cosplayers in Beacon Hill Park for a shoot series to put up on Cosplay.com

Had some fun yesterday, took over 550 pictures at Kei-Kon, the local Anime convention. The costumes were amazing and while I took lots of shots, I didn't get everything I wanted to.

So far I have two pics up and am working on some more, but I'll warn you it could be a while yet before I get to many up.

Once again Goth Girl of the Week is running its Goth Girl of the Year contest. This year we managed to Feature 22 models and at least 5 are DeviantArt members.

I work with a group that Features goth models from around the world. Our site is Goth Girl of the Week. I've posted articles here in my journal before about the site, but I just want to take this opportunity to showcase some of this year's amazing models that we've had.

Kristy Was found on Goth Babe of the Week, and was our first feature of 2008.

Zombie Kitten was our second Feature of the year in Febuary.

Maybe, was the first ever baby model.

Adrynochrome was an amateur model from Virgina.

Delilah, is a hot Italian model.

Jinx Is a model/actress living in Charlotte, NC.

Vynx, is a Philippino-Brit, who haunts the Devonshire Arms.

Where are you from!

OO:

I was born in the western part of Germany and up to now it's the place where I am living.

GGotW:

What got you into modelling?

OO:

I was always pretty interested in extraordinary gothic and fetish photography. There were quiet a lot artists, who kept on impressing me with their work. But, I do not think about being a model until 2007. In a half year's time, four photographers ask me on the street if I want to be part of their projects. Those shoots were a kind of experiment for myself, because now I know my preferences very well.

It would be correct to say that I start modeling in April 2007, since that time I have worked with a lot of photographers, who are interested in realizing my current shooting concepts!

GGotW:

What styles do you like?

OO:

I prefer Gothic, Cyber and Fetish styles. Many people like to dress in those styles, but I take the view that every detail has to be exciting. You cannot copy styles of others, without loosing yourself. I am mightily impressed with people who express their personality without caring about differing opinions!

GGotW:

Is there a Goth Club Scene in your area?

OO:

The goth club scene in Germany is pretty widespread. Especially around Cologne and the Ruhr Valley, you cannot overlook the club scene! Furthermore there are lots of well-known festivals in Germany like the WGT in Leipzig, the M'era Luna Festival in Hildesheim and the Amphi Festival in Cologne.

What is the scene like?

OO:

It's a scene full of individual stylings, different music preferences and lots of parties

GGotW:

If someone were to visit your part of Germany and wanted to experience the local scene, where would you send them?

OO:

In the daytime I would send them to some pretty nice gothic and fetish stores in Cologne. My personal favorite is Cosmic Ware . Fetish clothing on 500 sqm! In the Evening it is great to drink some cocktails, or go dancing in some pretty great clubs.

What photographers have you worked with?

OO:

One of the first photographers I worked with, was Oliver Pietern, it was a great chance for me cause his knowledge about photography, digital art, and paintings are incredible! Our creativity matches together in a perfect way! I am also proud of working with j-maya for a long time now! Our shooting concepts are always well planned and very lavish. I guess we will never get enough of each other

Natzo is one of my favourite photographers I have worked with, too. His way of expressing beauty fascinates me increasingly. His conceivabilities of showing my best features in front of his camera are very creative and deliberate. I have to say sorry for all the photographers I didn't mention

Details

Victoria Goth Shoot 2008 is over. Now its time for the four photographers to edit their works and post them to the net.

A total of four photographers showed up for this years shoot. We were all amazed at how well we worked together. No one got in each others way and we complimented each others ideas fantastically.

I have been a little slow to post images from this years shoot but today I got a few more up.

Well as I said at the begining I've taken a while to put my pictures up here on but the full gallery is on my NightShadows Photography website. I couldn't believe the number of shoots we managed to get in three hours. I think we'll have to use this location again, we didn't explore the half of it.

What is Goth Shoot?

Two years ago my wife and I invited a dozen models and a few photographers to a group shoot at the back of the BC legislative building. We thought we'd do it more often, but it took a year before we were able to do it again. Now we're ready to do year 3 of Goth Shoot.

Details

The August shoot, currently set for the 26th, is a large group shoot we do every year. We invite as many models and other photographers as we can find. Last year there were three models and three photographers and a make-up artist.

I am still looking for the ideal location to shoot this. Last year Beacon Hill Park made a great location, but this year I want to get a more gothic feel to the images and a park just doesn't do it.

Who will be there?

If he can get the time off I know Andrew will be there, as
will Ravenwood Photography.

This year we're hoping for a much larger gathering. If you're interested in being a part of any shoots, please contact me, and I'll add you to the contact list I'm building.

Where's it from?

I am still trying to get my computer back in shape after the shop I brought it from, wiped my C: drive. 2nd Anuual Goth Shoot

Well, for the second year in a row, my wife and I have organized and pulled off a successful goth shoot in the dying days of August. Don't really have a reason for doing it in August, it just works out that way.

This year we got Andrew Merpaw back and managed to grab a friend and MUA Caitlin Janes, as well as Ali and Tiffany as Models.

I'll post more images after I get the participants their copies.

In my last entry I made mention of my work on Goth Girl of the Week, a site designed to honor the women of the gothic community. We are moving in to a new faze of the project and are readying to vote on the Top Goth Girl of 2006. The four of us decided that we need a fifth vote to prevent to possibility of a tie. I've been working on a little side project called Goth Girl of the Week. Its a blog that honors the women of the gothic community.

Problem is that I spend a lot of time as a Store Manager of a major electronics retailer in a downtown mall. In short I have little free time, and as we near the holliday season, I'll have even less.

I have to say though that I enjoy and spend more time than I should here, but the atmospher and art is always beautiful.

Why so little activity?

Watching: In the Land of Women

Why isn't he writing more Journals? Why has he slowed down on comments on art? Whay is he doing?

These and many others are great questions. The answer is work and seasonal alergies. I have a job were I'm not the boss, first time in nine years, but because everyone else is a sloth I have to step-up to the plate and not only work on tasks, but make the sales. Its not uncommon for me to do 40% of the days sales when there are four staff working. The upside is more commision for me, the down side is its making me tired.

Pollen counts are high and last night's orange full moon rising showed it, and this weakens my imune system as it atacks the forgein particles in my eyes, nose and skin. This also weekens me. But I had a good sleep last night and so this jounal entry. Which seems more like a bable.

Once I'm saturated with images, I go read a few friends blogs and then over to a secret site to see what is going on in Newsgroups aka Usenet.

I didn't do anything special last night; I actually went to bed at 9:30pm. Its all about getting older. I have no desire to stay up late and make tons of noise to usher in the New Year. There is just no appeal in it any more, that and I was tired.

Payday was yesterday, for both my wife (ladycass) and I This gave us both a lot to celebrate but we did it in the afternoon. We met her daughter (Silver) at a nice downtown Irish pub she brought two friends along and we had a good chat. We gave Silver her Xmas gifts, as she was busy with the university before Xmas. She Oooed and her friend Awwed at the necklace and earrings from her Grandmother, then she Gleed at the gift certificate for Chapters (a big box book store in Canada) and was stunned by Santa's gift of a
Todd McFarlane figure of The Lord of Darkness form the movie Legend. Warm and fuzzies were all around the table as we dug in to our lunch. The Irish Times Pub may be expensive, but the atmosphere and food is excellent.

No resolutions this year only a note to self. I need to do more writing , hopefully a page a day. This journal could count towards that. I have a couple of scripts I want to write and I need to look for someone to work with me on a comic idea. I need to increase my work at Attractions and write my column as well as a movie review or two. The reviews I'll probably post here but the collum gets posted to my website

My god life is wierd.

I got a new job back in late July, and while I love the job I still find it wierd the people I run into. So far I have served celebrities like; Randy Bachman (Muscian), Jennifer Love Hewitt (Actress), and just about everyone from The New VI (Television Station). I've run into old friends that I haven't seen in years and re-established ties with them. I've met relitives I never knew I had, and one case of a friend of my dad's I haven't seen since I was eight.

Live is wierd.

"Unca Steve, Unca Steve!!!" You have no idea how long its been since I've heard those words shouted in the halls of a Sci-Fi Con. Or since I've seen the man who was affectionately attactch to those words. And yet I served him at work yesterday.
Steve was a BIG force packed into a little man back then. He was a major maker of what was V-Con, and why it worked so well at UBC. He doesnt go anymore and in a way that is so sad. He made me and everyone who knew him happy to be there. There is now a whole new generation of V-Conners that will not know that name.

Hey! I just realized I need to update my DA ID, hmmm. I move in less than a week and with the disater coming at the new building I may not get back on DA for a week or so.

Going to miss James Bay. Mayfair is so cold and concreat in comparison. At least its still Vic.

Changes

My new look for Night Shadows, my web site [link] , is up. But I've had thought about what I want to do and I'm seeing a better way to change it all. So look for Version 3.0 soon.

The new look is going to take all the sections I have now, and a few others and create E-Zines out of them. So if you have art of articles that you would like to see highlighted in an E-Zine. contact me [link]

The other big change coming is, my wife and I are moving. Yes we just moved back to Victoria in March, but she's gotten a job as a ressident caretaker in a 36 unit appartment building. So we have to move in at the end of the month.

My new job is closer to were we are moving so it makes it convienent. The job is good, I'm surpassing the bosses expectations for a new employee and he says that I seem to be good management matterial. He retires in two years and if I play my cards right, I could take that store then. I'm patient, I can wait and get the good store.

Well I'm back home. Moved back to my native city last Sunday (wich meens I'll need to redo my DevID) got my internet connection back up yesterday and now the process of fixxing all my accounts with my new e-mail. New Toy

I got a new toy. No its not a car or a set of lego. It's not anything physical, but it is tangable in it's ability to change and grow.

Been I while since I've writne anything here so I thought what the heck. I have been using the Xanga website for journaling of late but I think I'll stop that.
Deveant is such a nice comunity so today I'm working on scaning some photographs of mine and posting them. You'll notice that there is a wide range of material. I have old SF convention pictures and some pics I've had publisehed in papers and such. If I can get permison from Silver I'll post some of her images here too.

So many artists here it's just amazing. I was writing a story for a great artist who just doesn't have the time to work on our on-line comic any more. So now I need an anime/comic artist to work with. If you are one or know of someone, please contact me .

The comic is a fantasy adventure with two elves, a Nekoan(Cat-person), and two humans. Their adventure will take them across the world and into the teritories of many different creatures.

The More I watch the news. I have to say I'm discusted with the U.S. of A. Not for the normal reasons, not for the fact that thee're in an internationaly illeagle war. Or that the're trampling on the rights of their own citizens who are speaking out, when speaking out for or against is considered a basic freedom of all democatic people.
What realy has me is that the American Army is imitating the Telebahn, you remember these nasty supporters and defenders of Bin-Ladden. The imitation comes in the form of the distruction national monnuments in Iraq.
The Telebahn went around Afgahnistan and destroyed some of the worlds largest Buhda statues and justified it as the destruction of an infidel. In Iraq the American Foreces are toppling and ripping icons of Saddam, this is justified for the liberation of the Iraqi people. Who asked the Telebahn or the Americans to remove these icons? Leave it to the people that put them there. Its there right, there property, there contry.

Been sick in one form or anouther since Monday. Ick. Its a cold/flu/stuffied-head kind of thing, I don't know which signs are going to matterialize from day to day. AND NO! I dont have SARS, as I'm having no breathing problems.
Work has been slugish as a result. You try managing a retail gifts store fealing like this . But at least I can spend some time looking at the wonderful art here at Deviantart.
