I have been away for a long time. I still have two months left to finish my master’s degree and free time is something I no longer posses, but I make a little break on this sleepless night to share a very crappy experience I had with this guy David Ravenscroft, who scammed me and many other TF artist here on DA.

My situation is quite similar to, sadly, many other artists, even here on DA, like the great who posted is experience on this thread [link] found about this guy months ago and encouraged us to expose what’s been going on.
So I share my experience for two reasons, one for warning my dear fellow artists of scammers like him, hoping you don’t go through the same humiliating circumstances I have and, second, because I’m done with keeping this situation confidential. (Which is no longer such, just take a look at [link] for a delicious review of his story of cheating and stealing other artists and transfans from TFAuctions starting since 2006!!!!!)

David Ravenscroft contacted me last December saying that he was from a "studio" [link] and requested me to do 2 full color pinups of the good and bad guys of the cougar story, stating that payment would be due to January 28, so I trusted the guy and I did two full color pinups, (I had free time then and kind of needed some money) Before I knew it, it was January 29 and nothing happened. Days later, after I insisted in contacting him he told me the sad story of him moving from his old house and having a baby. In that very moment I knew exactly the kind of fraudster I was dealing with, because even though I hadn’t worked for a studio before, I just knew that that could not be a serious response.
I contacted him several times, but every time he answered with a “next week I'll write you an email with a 100% sure date for your payment". or: "payment his now being processed and will be in your paypal account by Monday no later!, Thanks for your Patience with regards to the payment it has taken us longer than expected due to paypal verification issues."
that was in MAY. And the months went by.

I told my fellow artist I work with here what had happened and they encouraged me to insist on pushing the guy even more, just to see how far the bullshit would go ( At that point I knew I'd never get paid for the pinups I did). He told me that my paypal account wasn’t working, which wasn’t so because I get payments on a regular basis, but I said "yeah maybe", he kept giving me more future dates for payment......but still requesting me not to show the art I had done "for free" to anybody. Anyway, it wasn’t until I wrote him telling him that enough is enough and that, since he never paid me and it seemed he'd never do it, to forget about the whole thing, and I felt free to show my art to anyone I want and that had included it in my portfolio. The guy freaked out about this and wrote me an email immediately (august 4th) saying he was sorry and that if they didn't pay by September 5 th I would have “the company’s blessing” to do whatever I want with my illustrations and show them and all. But then he wrote me another email saying that "after showing my last email to his workmates at studio cougar- wonder if those guys get paid, if they are not imaginary friends- they would pay the money he owed me -for a job I had already done in the most professional way MONTHS ago- only after I provide them the names and websites of every publisher I had sent their precious material to.....well, well, well...........that was it. Pathetic, I know.

I had told him not to contact me anymore but the dude was worried, and he still is. Then he threw a couple of pitiful emails reminding me that I had to send him the info he had requested...or..if..no money...for me.........Then I knew the poor boy has really serious ego-related issues and that he indeed was thinking he had some kind of power or serious influence. Thanks for all your support and comments for the past months. I decided to start again with my art cause, really, there was nothing I could do to avoid it. It's stronger than me so here I am. I'm working in some collabs and finnishing a mosai and some awesome lines for the Lost seasons, TF project wich is simply great! I started composing songs again and, regarding the illustrations I did as a "pro" gig wich was never paid, LESSON LEARNED. period.
I deeply believe we came to this life to experience everithing and learn from it, so it's ok. I'm wiser and stronger and mny whole attitude has changed for good.

Something cool happened last week. My good friend old me about an announcement from Shout Factory (the folks who are releasing the new G1 DVDs) that they were looking for fan art submissions to feature on their DVDs, so I sent my aerialbots pic and it was chosen! The email said:

Congratulations! If you are receiving this email, it is because a piece of your art has been selected to appear in a gallery of Transformers fan art on the upcoming Transformers: Matrix of Leadership Edition and Transformers: Seasons 3&4 DVD sets.

so, yeahaaaaa... my little contribution will be on the DVD.

anyway, I'm preparing a good portfoliio so I can be prepared to apply to a serious publisher and take my art to the next level.

Certainly a huge surprise. I remember like a year ago when Josh sent me the lines saying "a mosaic for you to colour". I felt really nervous 'cause it was the very first time I had to color sequentials, and the setting was pretty challenging, a cliff and sunset and a bird (which I decided to color sort of blue...). I remember watching the sky for hours trying to study clouds and how light reflected on them and stuff. It's a very rewarding feeling and pretty frustating at te the same time 'cause I can't get a copy of the spotlight here in Chile, so it's an absolutely good time to buy online (I've never done that before, I'm pretty ignorat about it, yet)

Now, the facts:

1. I’ve been drawing and painting since I can remember. I always drew on my house and school’s wall if I didn’t have a piece of paper

2. I had a nice car once, but sold it so I could have a syntheziser.

3. I learned to color by reading tutorials and experimenting with photoshop. Never really studied anything art-related, but when I saw the first dreamwave pinups done by Don figueroa I thought “wow! Those drawings look absolutely cool, and look at those colors! How the $%&%do they do it?”.

4. I’m married and happy. My wife is my number 1 fan and critic.

5. I’m the oldest of four brothers. All of them are more talented than me. Two of them are in the graphic art bussiness.

6. Because life is quite weird sometimes, I ended up teaching at a school in the south of the planet. I also started a little photoshop workshop as an extra-school thing and, man, I have some very talented students.

7.Music is my other passion. I am a piano/keyboard player and teacher.I studied classical piano when I was little in viña and, when we moved to the big city and could’t get any conservatory to accept me because I was too old (16) I was offered to play in a band with some cool classmates. I did so and never stopped playing in bands untill 2 years ago. (couldn’t cope with regular job, family life and playing four nights a week.) Man, those were good times.
I formed a band with my brothers (they are all musicians), called it “clone” cause we all look very similar-people say. And must say we were pretty good. I got to own 4 keyboards and, for some time, I sold and purchased musical instruments and audio equipment. Good bussiness I must say.

8.Finally, I suck at rendering backgrounds, so every time I must do it for a mosaic, I try my best and watch a lot of “monet paintings”. My job is to teach, but my philosophy is to always learn something new and enjoy life now. You never know if ther will be a “tomorrow”. I hate the idea of being old and think about my life and wonder..mmm..I regret I didn’t....?

Man!!! I saw the movie and, hell yeah, you all were right, it just rocked!!!!! it was amazing to see oon the big screen, and in such a realistic way, prime, bumblebee and all the bots I grew up with. the designs worked pretty nice and the story, well, I read the leaked script months ago, so it wasn't a big surprise, was great. ILM are gods and you know it, can`t wait till the sequel hits theaters.....on the mean time, I'll keep drawing and coloring. that`s how I roll, baby!
