        <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ Howdy ya'll! Been missing Charleston since I started working on this again.<br /><br />Finished making the complete mold for the doors of the gate. <br />I really like the idea of it having a carved stone appearance so <br />I'm going to try to cast them in plaster. <br />And yes, I have never done a plaster cast so I can't wait to see what will happen. <br />If anyone has any recommendations of types of plaster to use I'd love to hear about it. <br />I know I will have to do a bit of chiseling and carving <br />after I cast it due to the mold not being perfect <br />but at least I have a well established design. <br />And it's square which makes me very happy! <br />Here's a pic:<br /><br />It wi ]]></media:text>

        <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ If you're keeping up with my progress <br />you can see that I'm trying to get done with<br />as much as I can this weekend on my sculpt! Really I'm trying! :)<br />I cast the first new panel from the mold that I had made yesterday. <br />I must say I was impressed with how well it actually came out <br />with it being so tiny and detailed. <br />There were a few little areas that I had to sand <br />and punch through the resin. It wasn't bad at all though. <br />Now I'm working on the other three panels and then off to <br />sculpting door frames and a couple of swords!<br /><br />Here's a pic of my first cast ~<br /><br />Okay, crackin' the whip on myself, gotta get a move on! <br />Be well all!<br />:p ]]></media:text>

        <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ Started working on making the mold for the panel of the gate. <br />I uploaded a couple quick photos of the process. <br />I kind of left out the messy parts of mixing up the silicone and pouring it in.<br />It's just to difficult to stop and take pictures when your making a big mess.<br />The first pic is after I built the clay walls and I brushed on a coat of sealer to both the walls and sculpt.<br />The next photo is the silicone poured in and the bottles of the product that I used. <br />So far I'm liking this product so I hope it works just as well as the first test I did.<br />If this works out right I'm going to cast 4 identical panels with this mold to make up t ]]></media:text>

Hi all!<br /><br />Winter has been long and cold but the birds are starting to sing <br />so that makes me a happy person!<br />I've had the week off and it's given me time to work on a few things <br />that I have been itching to get to. <br />Of course, there are plenty of things to do around the house; <br />got the deck washed and the pond cleaned so far. <br />Now it's time to get back to that sculpt <br />that I have been working on for a half of a century.         <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ The begins of the Sword Gate have commenced! (Again!)<br /><br />At the beginning of last week I received the clay I ordered through the mail. <br />Much to my surprise it wasn't what I had expected. The clay I decided to try is called Clayette by Chevant. <br />I had heard it was one of the best clay's to work with, not sticky (Not to sure about that) <br />and came in 3 different hardness's.  I received the hard form and soft. <br />I found myself working with the hard. As for the work part, our basement is coming along quite well. The studs are up with just a small amount more to complete, then on to the electrical work... not my favorite part at all. I always worry about getting zapped. But soon we will have our movie room. This was after my first bake. <br />Unfortunately I did get some cracks on the first and also the second bake <br />which makes me think I would like to try the boil method for clay. <br />I must be over baking I guess. That would be the only thing I can think of.<br /><br />Well, it's on to repair work for me now. At times this can be a bit discouraging but I'm pushing on. <br />The next pic should be the finished sculpted product. I have the windows done,<br />the signs done and just a little more to do on the lantern.<br />I need to figure out the leaves for some of the trees also.<br /><br />Hope you are all well!:heart: ]]></media:text>

I made it back home from my excursion out west! <br />My husband and I had a wonderful trip with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law. <br />We stayed in Disneyland for a few days, got to see the Haunted Mansion <br />all done up like The Nightmare Before Christmas which really rocked!<br /><br />We also went to L.A. for the day to try to get on to the Price is Right. <br />My brother-in-law got  tickets but they didn't guarantee that you would get in to the show. <br />They put you through this long process, taking your picture, interviewing you... <br />I guess we were okay Price is Right material because we got in. <br />Apparently, we were not good enough to get  ]]></media:text>

        <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ It's been sooo long! Sheesh! Here is an update on my next sculpture~ (Yes, I still sculpt!!)<br /><br />Metal, foil and clay so far... Pretty darn unattractive but thought I'd share the progress of it. I enjoy seeing how things fall together; I'm sure others do also.<br />At the beginning of this year, this sculpture was a priority to me. It still is, but art wise I have a wild mix of things going on right now. <br />And I have, as always, put my priorities on hold... something I do not like to do. <br />Let's hope the next update photo won't take so long. ]]></media:text>

It's near the Mediterranean coast and is quite medieval in appearance. I can't wait to get started on it. There will be a lot of stone, wood and iron... all my favorite textures. It's been a long time since my last visit there. I really wanted to see the architecture room and also the Egyptian display area. Though the Egyptian area seem a little small, I got to learn a bit about relief carving and why the Egyptians used certain types of stones for carving.         <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ On to another un-interesting journal! Today I conquered a few things on my sculpture. I began working on the tiny little details within it. I'm sure I will slowly be going blind! I have a lot more to do but so far I've done a few orchids and a butterfly. I have them sitting on a piece of ceramic tile and they are so tiny you can't even tell they are there at first.<br />I've been thinking of ways to put everything together. It's kind of like a big puzzle. <br />I'm so glad I get to finally work on it again. At this rate I may be doing one sculpt a year!<br />I sure hope not though. ]]></media:text>

        <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ A good while back I started having a fond interest in these teakwood carvings from Thailand. Some carvings are more of a picture or relief (one sided) type carving which they put frames around. Anyway, I found a group of talented artist from Bangkok and I can't believe some of the incredible carvings that they do out of teakwood. Some of the scenes in these carvings are so intricate and detailed you wonder how the wood doesn't break. On this website, it spoke of there being a "drop in the number" of skilled artist in this tradition of art design. I find it hard to believe no one would be interested in learning this art tradition. I never had the opportunity to do a book so this will be a learning experience. Of course, my poor sculpture is yet again on the back burner...sigh. <br />This book will be fun to put together though, a lot of earthy stuff going on throughout with the design. I'll be using CG painted photos, lots of textures and my paintings. And, of course, lots of earthy colors.
