When does photography become manipulation?

recently i read gilad's blog on his dA page and he discussed a very important topic: photo manipulation. especially the question: where does manipulation start and where does it end? i recommend you to read the origin journal entry because it shows a lot of nice arguments. if you dont want to it doesnt matter so much because my answer shows his opinion too.

"hey gilad. thanks for your short discussion about that very important topic. i also thought a lot of these things some time ago. so let me answer with my opinion on your statements (shortened and in italics):

2. It [photo manipulation] is so damn easier than it use to be.[...]

i feel that you use the word "manipulation" in a negative way. a manipulation, in my opinion, is just a change you did in a photography. then you can distinguish between the grade of change.
photomanipulation is an artistic field. so the more you learn and the better you improve. but also: the more you know and do the harder it is to recognize the manipulation. so i think it is not right to say that manipulation is generally easy. should it be harder?
i appreciate your detailed explanations concerning photoshop manipulation in documentary photography. but i also appreciate you not to forget about the importance for the artistic way of photography.

3. Photography is slowly loosing it’s respected place as an authentic art form.[...]

sure? photography begins with a "click" and ends with .... where does it end? apart from the little adjustments, it ends with looking at the photo for the documentary use, to tell the truth, to show something real.
but what about art? in my opinion, the field of photography art begins with a "click" and it never ends. the photo is the raw material for the artistic interpretation and manipulation in every way it needs to create a message, an emotion or a discussion. in my opinion the photography art does not need in general the content of truth as a sacrosanct, fixed condition.

thanks for reading!"

i would like to read your opinion to that topic here!

let me tell you something from my last photo-trip to metz. you can see some of the photos i took there in my gallery.
so on a cold but sunny sunday i decided to go to metz with two friends and my camera. we arrived there in the afternoon so we enjoyed the beautiful sinking sun shining on the awesome french architecture of past times. we visited a cathedral and had the pleasure of a spontaneous introduction to their windows by a local frenchman who explained all the symbols and meanings within the details of the large windows. it was so wonderful, like holiday from everyday.
in the dusk i explored a carousel turning as hell into the night, so romantic!
this was one of my nicest (photo-)trips i ever had!
