That's right - You wake up one morning and you can't speak, you can't move your arms, all that's working is your eyes.. what do you do?

For most of us,I believe this would be a nightmare. Just the inability to log on to deviantART causes me to go into tiny withdrawal modes, so the concept of no communication at all.. is mind numbing.

Communication is key to connection. Without it we feel isolation and excluded from the rest of humanity. The ability to share your feelings and thoughts is priceless and to live without that.. unimaginable.

Except if you are ~GloryAngel - because if you were Sara, this would be your life.

A year ago, Sara was in a terrible car accident and she seemed to come out of it unscathed but while in the hospital being treated, she suffered a stroke.

This stroke made it impossible for Sara to move anything but her eyes and while she now has a machine to help her "speak" using the movement of her eyes it isn't enough to break the isolation.

Sara was an artist, she was one of ours. She was an active member of this community I've been praising and we have the ability to give her a piece of her life back. If we can come together and raise $2500, we can help her family purchase equipment that will allow her to access the web, and even allow her to make art again.

Every year you all come together for $Moonbeam13's breast cancer walk and we've watched you reach out to others in need before and for that I applaud you. If you can do it one more time, we can literally bring art back to an artist. What greater gift is there?

I do not have much time for a full Halloween Journal. I am on Jury Duty and am busy dealing with some other things.

I really hate to do this... but I need to.

I am very involved with my union and am away from home a lot. Mostly on the weekends. I keep in contact with my family via cell phone. My wife and I added my sister-in-law to our plan a few years ago. It was cheaper than the collect calls we would get from her.

Over the summer, before I was going to be gone for over a week, my wife and I upgraded our phones. We also let my sister-in-law upgrade her phone. Her phone made it all too easy to send sound, music, video, pictures back and forth.

Well... in one month my sister-in-law racked up $800 in data transfer charges. She has no job, has no money. I can just afford the normal monthly costs.

Update: They canceled our contract... so now we owe over $1,600.

Needless to say, we are all now without cell phones indefinitely. With the cost of the calls from hotel rooms, my contact home is pretty limited.

If you can help in any way, I would appreciate it.

UPDATE

Dear All-

I can only say Jack has successfully come through his surgery. There has been detected some type of "rare infection" in the sack surrounding his heart. I only know he is being given X dose of antibiotics for this symptom. He does have other health issues that may have an effect on his recuperation. I can not share more without the family permssion.

God bless everyone for their thoughts and prayers.

- if you don't know his story, please take a moment to meet this wonderful human being.

Hello-

I saw you had posted on his journal, and I am looking for URGENT assistance.

He is my brother-in-law and suffered a heart attack early this morning 05Oct08 about 1 a.m.

I know DeviantArt is his home away from home.

I was wondering if there is a way to let his "community" know of this misfortune, and to rally around with thoughts of good will and support. He is scheduled for quad bypass surgery tomorrow later in the day (06Oct08).

Weekend to End Breast Cancer!

We need to help $Moonbeam13, *theblackmass, and =mombeam!!

Last year we all pulled together for $Moonbeam13 and the Weekend to End Breast Cancer. This year, they really need our help. They need to raise the necessary funds just to participate this year. This will be $Moonbeam13's 6th year. In order to participate they need to raise $2000. At the moment they are short of this goal.

Our Rituals

My bride and I have a couple of love rituals...

1. Hand Gesture
As part of saying good bye, usually give each other a hand sign. It is similar to the "I Love You" sign language gesture (The letters I, L and Y put together).

However we added the letter R (Crosses index and middle fingers) for "Really" (I Really Love You)

2. Good byes on Phone
For as long as my bride and I have been talking on the phone (over 26 years now). Almost all conversations end with:

I gotta go, I love you.

etc.

This may go on for a few rounds of "love yous" and kisses...

A call does not seem finished unless this ritual is done

My wife delivered our Grand Niece!

On January 2, 2008, my wife was visiting our niece who was in the maternity ward at the hospital. My sister (the grandma to be) had just left the hospital on an errand. My other sister who was at the hospital had just stepped out to get some dinner with our niece's boyfriend. There was only my wife and my niece in the room.

My niece said the pain was unbearable. My wife checked my niece and found that the baby's head was crowning. She told my niece to hit the button to call the nurse as my wife stood there hoping the baby did not arrive too fast.

The nurse came in and helped my wife get gowned and made a comment that it was sweet that the grandma was delivering the baby. Well the OB-GYN showed up and assisted my wife how really basically delivered the baby. My wife also got to cut the umbilical cord.

It was an amazing night for my wife.

The doctor delivered the afterbirth and was in the process of cleaning up when my sister (the aunt) and my niece's boyfriend entered the room. They were sad to have missed the birth but was happy for the arrival.

The baby was born on her mother's birthday.

Introduction

Over 25 million people have been lost to AIDS so far, and 4.3 million people were infected with HIV in 2006. The spread of HIV is quickening, with more people infected in 2006 than in any previous year.

Why do I care? I care because it affects people I care about, I care.. because I'm human.

Information, education and communication are among the most important elements in the response to AIDS. To be effective information must be understood and believed and it's no surprise to anyone reading this that there is a negative stigma associated with this disease.

How Can I help?

I'm glad you asked, there are several ways:

I am Blown Away!

An explosion of Pink! I know many if not most of those who have Pinked up their sites either with pink avatars, journals, deviations, etc. are doing this to be trendy. I know I am not.

And WOW! The outpouring of support from this community has really impressed me. What a wonderful community! And over $5000 in contributions! Whoa!

My Personal Story

On July 4, 1992, my mother lost her battle with liver cancer. She was diagnosed just about six months earlier. She was 61 years young. We love and miss her dearly.

Introduction

For the past 5 years our very own $Moonbeam13 has been involved in supporting and raising money for The Weekend To End Breast Cancer event in Toronto.

She has done this in a fairly quiet and discreet way so we felt it was time to shed a bit more light on what exactly she does for this great cause.

To give a bit of background, in the past 4 years this organization has raised over 60 million dollars in donations and through this has made some landmark strides in advancing the research on breast cancer, which claims the lives of close to 50,000 women a year and about a quarter million women diagnosed per year.
This money does make a big difference in helping with in depth gene studies and creating specialized programs for people diagnosed with the disease.

The Weekend To End Breast Cancer takes place all across Canada. In Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Montreal, and $Moonbeam13's hometown of Toronto, where for the last 4 years and soon to be 5, she has participated in the 60k walk. ThatÂs 37.28 miles to you Americans.
To participate in the walk, each person must raise $2000 to qualify and that is no easy task in and of itself. As of right now she has raised about 2600 dollars but we think she can do much better than that with the help of a community of 5 million strong!

This year the event takes place September 8th and 9th, so time to help is limited.
