On Saturday, August 15, 2009, my long-time friend Cindy Frisk married Nate Hoag. I was asked to be the official photographer, so I flew in from Denver, Colorado to take photos of her gorgeous fairytale-style wedding.

At age 2, Cindy became the first friend I ever had and to this day, I truly consider her one of my best friends. She's without a doubt, a sister to me. I'm so happy that she found someone to share her life with; Nate couldn't have been a better partner to grow and enjoy life with Cindy. May the both of you live a life full of happiness, joy, compassion, and above all, love. I love you both!!

Even though these photos were taken at my first-ever wedding photo shoot, I truly did my best work for everyone. Cindy and Nate, I hope you enjoy these! They're just for you!

I've been doing a lot of work on my online art gallery lately and I'm rather excited about some of the new features! You can now rate the pieces from 1 (being "Terrible") to 5 (being "Excellent"). Just click on your rating and voila! Rating my artwork will also help me out tremendously. Let me explain: for one, it will allow me to learn from what's really good and from what's not, and whenever a visitor rates one of my works, it will automagically be moved in the previews section according to it's rating - meaning the best pieces will be at the left and the ones that need improvement will be right. Remember though, you can only vote once, so choose wisely!

Another awesome feature is my new RSS feed. You can subscribe to this and whenever I add new artwork, your RSS reader will get the new work in a flash!

Update #1

ZOMWFG!! Just when I thought gas prices weren't going to get any lower, last night I bought gas for $1.96 per gallon.

I put $10.01 in my gas tank and filled it up to almost 3/4 of the way. This is really, really nice!

I just hope gas prices stay the same (or get even lower). I'd be OK with that, too.

That's how much I just paid for a gallon of gas! I got my gas tank filled up to about 3/4 for $15.

It wasn't too long ago that it was $4.00+ per gallon. This is a very, very nice change.

Although, I suppose even if we had to pay $6.00 per gallon, we shouldn't complain too much. I remember when I went to Europe in the summer of 2006, we had to get some gas while in France. Well, the gas station's sign said 1.75Â per liter - there are about 3.78541178 liters in one US Gallon (according to Google), so 1.75Â x 3.78541178 = about 6.62Â per US gallon. That doesn't include the Euro to US Dollar conversion rate at the time, whic...

I'm in a major pickle!

For those of you that know anything about programming and in particular, PHP 5.2.6, I must beg for your help!

I just made a major booboo! Let me explain: I finished upgrading to PHP version 5.2.6 from PHP 4.2.1, and in my code I use a lot of include() and require() functions to create the page templates. Well, as soon as I restarted my server, those functions stopped working. Even worse is I have literally thousands of pages on my site and practically all of them use these functions in one way or another; these pages are no longer rendering... Is there some sort of setting I need to change or fix in php.ini, or something else, or is there a way to fix this globally? If not, how can I downgrade back to PHP 4.2.1?

Also, I have a MySQL database and for some reason, I can't connect to the database using this code:

$con = mysql_connect('localhost', 'mysql_user', 'mysql_password');

It just flat out doesn't return anything. Am I doing something wrong here, too?

Please, please, please help me fix my catastrophe!!

Well, I just discovered a website called TinEye Image Search - an image search engine that uses images to find other similar (or identical) images. The concept (and implementation) of the site is incredible and quite revolutionary.

The first thing I thought when I found out about TinEye was "Wow, this is great! It'll let me figure out if anyone else has used my artwork on the Internet." As much as I hoped that no one had stolen my artwork, it turned out to be just the opposite. I found out that one of my popular photo-manipulations, LOVE had been transformed into a black & white avatar for a series of sites that look as if they've been written in Arabic, and someone else took the image and is using it on Photobucket.

Unfortunately, the TinEye Image Search is still in it's infancy (it's a beta), and just under one billion images have been indexed. One billion may seem like a lot of images, but I would honestly be very surprised if there weren't several trillion images on the Internet.

I do have to say though, I'm going to be using TinEye Image Search a lot more in the future - especially since this is not the first time my artwork has been stolen...

Mozilla Firefox v3.0 sucks!

I'm sure I'm probably the only one saying this, but the latest version of Mozilla Firefox - version 3.0 is more of a downgrade than an upgrade. As a web programmer for more than a decade, I have been an avid and faithful Firefox supporter since the beta version of Firefox 1.0. This release, however, was a huge disappointment.
Let me explain:
- The startup time takes quite a bit longer with version 3, as compared to version 2.
- The scaling of the pages is quite a bit different, and in some cases, actually degrading the layout of the webpage - even for 100% W3C standard-compliant sites.
- Frames act very strangely; when pages are supposed to load in a specific frame, they just open in a new tab.
- The "Clear private data" feature, which is best for public computers, does not work; in fact, it doesn't clear any information at all.
- The browser crashes much more often than version 2.
- Bookmarks do not get moved correctly (or at all, in some cases) when you go to version 3 from previous versions.
Maybe it's just me, a faulty edition, or the four different computers (with completely different specifications I might add) that I've tried this on, but for the time being, I'm sticking with the last release of Mozilla Firefox 2 - version 2.0.0.16.

Wow, I cannot believe my luck!! I just got back home from a night of fun, amazing photography (see below), and a car wreck in my brand-new 2007 Chevy Cobalt. Tonight was supposed to be (and was) a lot of fun, until this random dark-grey, 2005 Honda Accord (probably with a drunk driver) ran into the side of my car, tearing up the back side, breaking off my tire's hubcap, and making my car spin into a 180Â° turn. Oh, and did I mention they didn't have their lights on? Regardless, as soon as I stopped, they were on their way down the street, speeding away from the scene. That's when Dave (my passenger) yelled "follow them!" So, without thinking and still in shock, I went down the road, and caught up to get their license plate and description of the car. Dave was on my cell phone reporting the accident to the police. The person who was driving the other car took absolutely nothing into consideration because they were going down one-way streets, running red lights, stop signs, swerving to miss pedestrians, etc. It was really scary and it felt like I was on an episode of COPS, but after what seemed like forever, Dave told me to stop following them and go back to the scene of the accident. I was really shaken up, but we got back to the site where a police officer took a report on the hit and run. When we got back home, I called my car insurance company to report the claim and they told me that my agent would get back with me. Well, I only hope that I don't have to pay for the repairs to my baby, or I might have to declare bankruptcy... Wish me luck!

I was just informed that my car repair is going to cost me about $4,000 (four-thousand-dollars) because I have to get a new suspension, a new left-side panel for the body of my car, a new hubcap, and the list goes on. This is just my fucking luck! Let me explain: for the first time in almost an entire year, I was finally getting out of debt (because of my digital camera purchase) and then, I get into a hit-and-run car accident. Is this karma, because I've always tried to be a really good person!? I mean, for crying out loud! Even though, I only have to pay $500 from the repairs, it's still going to put me back into the proverbial financial hole, big time. Oh, and I also have another car payment and my insurance payment that's due today, so that's yet another $500! Why me!?
Oh, and did I mention that I still have almost $16,000 (sixteen-thousand-dollars) left to pay off for my car? Fortunately, that should be paid off in the next five years or so. I think I need to start in the counterfeiting business or maybe go legit and win the lottery.

[Update #2: Friday, August 15, 2008 @ 9:54am for mid-April]
I suppose I should update this one last time - In mid-April, I [finally] got Gary (my car) back after it taking an extra three weeks to finish the repairs. The suspension had to be replaced, which actually upped the estimated $4,000 to a little over $6,000 in repairs - about half the cost of the entire car, minus the loan interest. Fortunately, I have good insurance, so the only thing I had to pay for was $500 for the repairs and about $280 for the rental car. I've been driving Gary since I got him back and he's been doing great. It [still] feels as if this accident never even happened; the mechanics did a great job fixing up my baby!

OK, I don't want to do this, but I have to: I'm putting myself on a... ughh... budget.

I was really expecting that I would have my Canon Digital Rebel XTi camera paid off (in full) by now, but I didn't expect it to be so difficult to do. I love my camera to death, but it's been such a financial pain in the butt!
It's been almost eight full months since I got my baby, yet I've barely even scratched the surface of the bill. I honestly thought that having a [decent-paying] job would let me pay it off in only a couple of months or so - maybe five or six months, max. Regardless, what I'm doing now (or I should say, not doing) isn't working, so I'm making a change. As much as I don't like budgets, I need to put myself on one, so I can [at the very least] pay off my credit card bills. Does anybody have any advise on suffering through a budget?

At first, I expected it to be just a separation, but I think today, I finally realized that it has actually happened. I am officially single, yet I am no where close to truly accepting the fact.

I'm glad to say things are going quite well for me at Wal-Mart. Starting August 14th, my raise of 60Â¢ an hour goes into effect and on the 18th, I'm moving over to the photo lab! I think I'm going to really like this change, since I'll be dealing with photography all day. Oh, and you can't forget the fact that they open at 8:00am and close at 9:00pm, so that means no more 6:00am shifts! I'll have a much better schedule, which means that I may be able to have a life outside of work! Yay! Oooh, ooh, ooh!! Guess what else!!! I get to have another 90 day evaluation thingy and if I do well there, I'll be getting another raise. Woo hoo!
But anyways, another interesting thing that has happened [recently] was that my boss pretty much declared that he was falling in love with me... So, um... Yeah.
That actually made Steve (my boyfriend) feel really uncomfortable and now he doesn't like the idea of me associating with my boss outside of work. I just don't have the heart to tell him that we can only be co-workers and not friends...
OK, enough about that! I have to admit though, I'm probably going to miss certain parts of being a cashier, like dealing with customers. OMG, I can't believe I just said that. Wow, I really am becoming more social (which is a very good thing). I've been working on trying to "get out of my shell", so to speak for many years now and in the last few months, I've probably had more conversations with people than I have in my entire life combined.
So anyways, I'm glad things are going to be different. I need a change...

I just realized that deviantART now has a new URI scheme. I have to admit that I'm not particularly fond of this change, but I'm glad the old one still works and I really hope that it will continue to be effective as long as deviantART exists.
Let me explain if you're not familiar with the tech speak.
^{Basically, an URI scheme is what you need to tell a computer how to access a certain file or piece of information in a specific location. An example could be a website address, such as http://www.artbyjb.com/ or http://gallery.artbyjb.com/?id=1}
What deviantART has done is changed the format from something like this:
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/55029308/
or:
http://www.deviantart.com/view/55029308/

to something like this:

I got the idea for the name after seeing the ending credits for The Simpson's Movie, which by the way was totally AWESOME!! OMG, you should all go see it now!! That's right, drop everything and go.

I think I broke my car...
I was on my way home from work and all of a sudden, I heard a boom come from my car and then, there was a bunch of smoke coming from all around it. I looked into my rear-view mirror and saw some parts fall off. As to what they were or if they were important, I don't know, but I do know that I won't be driving my car again since I no longer feel safe in it. I need a new car quick, but I'm kind of broke at the moment - it's only $4,000 in the hole! Fortunately, there is a bright side to this mess: I don't work tomorrow, so I have one day to make four-thousand dollars and buy a new car... I am royally fucked!

Wow, what a day! I have to admit that I was having a very difficult time keeping that "Wal-Mart smile" on my face today! Every once in a while, I'll have to deal with an angry customer or two who come through my line. I try to make them as happy as possible (even though, that's probably not going to happen). Anyways, that doesn't usually happen, but today, it was like they let out an angry mob of customers who were out for vengeance!!
Let me explain: I was working at one of the two lanes where tobacco-products are allowed to be sold and a woman got in line to get about $70 of food and other items. She wanted to pay with her food stamps card, which as a cashier, we're supposed to treat that kind of tender as a debit transaction - it goes through pretty much the same, but it just takes another step. Anyways, she obviously couldn't tell her ass from her hand, because she kept pressing the wrong buttons on the payment & bank card console, and after four tries, I asked her if I could give it a try. Well, since I am trained in that sort of thing, it went right through, but there was a remainder of about $24 which she wanted to have put on the same card, but under the "cash" setting instead. Because this was "technically" two separate forms of payment, I had to get her to swipe her card again and she was obviously getting very angry because she had to reach into her purse to get out her card (after I told her that that would have to happen if she wanted to pay like she did). Well, she swiped her card (even though I strongly hinted that I should do it for her) and well, what-do-ya-know, she messed it up again! I got her to give the card to me so that I could enter it in, but for some reason the card was denied and I couldn't figure out why. The journal slip that printed out said that she didn't have the funds available, yet on the same slip, it said she had about $27 left over, which was more than the total amount due. Well, I had to get my CSM (Customer Service Manager) over to help me out while the woman went over to the Customer Service area to use a pay phone so she could call and figure out why it wasn't going through. Well, I had several other customers waiting in line (already getting very frustrated) and so I asked my CSM if she could suspend the transaction until that customer got back. For some reason, the transaction was unable to be suspended, so it had to be voided out completely, meaning that woman would have to go through the line again and have all of her items scanned once more.
Well, the guy who was next in line came up to get some cancer sticks (aka cigarettes). He told me that he wanted a regular carton of Winston cigarettes. Well, I don't smoke and quite honestly, I don't know that much about any kind of tobacco product (I'm still learning where they are, what they are, and everything else). I began looking for the Winston box (which at the moment, I wasn't thinking clearly because of the stress from the previous customer). The guy began raising his voice telling me "it's the fucking carton, not the box!" and then he said to the customer behind him "I'm just here for some god-damn cigarettes, can't I get some decent service anywhere!?" Well, I finally found the carton, but it was in "lights" and I told him that we must be out of the regular ones, so he said "just give me the damn lights, then!" Even though he looked as though he was 50 years old, I seriously considered asking him for his ID because I knew that he didn't have it with him. I decided against that because he did "look" over 27 years old and I could get in trouble for denying the sale of an item to a customer who can legally acquire it. Anyways, I sold him his cancer sticks and he left.
Just then, the first customer-lady came up to me and said it should go through now (she was under the impression that her order was still available, so she could just get it and go). Well, I told her that the order had to be voided out and that she was going to have to start over. I apologized to the woman for the inconvenience and told her that I would do everything I can to make it go through as quickly and as accurately as possible. Last night, I had a dream where I decided to go to the mall. I hopped in my car and somehow, magically appeared there. I began looking around and found this mysterious restaurant that was hidden by some bushes. I was like ^_^, so I went up to the cashier troll-lady creature and suddenly, there were like a million people there standing in line. I was like "No!", so I got in second place behind some blond girl. No one seemed to care that I cut in front of everybody else, but I should have been like, "Move aside honey! This is my dream, not yours!"
So anyways, the cashier began speaking to the girl in French, and even though the girl didn't know French, she seemed to understand perfectly and responded in English. The cashier creature then began babbling about how she was at Harvard, majoring in 157 different fields. Suddenly, Enya came onto my alarm clock waking me up and the first thing I thought when I woke up was "Damnit, I didn't get my nachos! I couldn't afford them anyways..."

Night in the Emergency Room

Yesterday, I spent my night in the Emergency Room (ER) of the local hospital. Well, it wasn't me that needed help; it was Steve, my boyfriend. Let me explain: he came over to my house to pick me up so that I could spend my two days off from work with him. After he got to my house, he told me that he wasn't feeling too well. He said that he sneezed before he got there and started seeing "stars" or something like the spots one would see after getting their picture taken with a really bright flash. Anyways, that lasted for about 15 or 20 minutes and all of a sudden, it went away like it had never been there. Everything was back to normal. Well, for a while anyways... We went over to Blockbuster to rent a couple of movies and Steve began to get really disoriented. His speech was beginning to slur, he wasn't able to keep his balance very well, and he was really confused and emotional. It was like he was having a nervous breakdown or a panic attack or something. He said that he felt like he was in a dream and that nothing made sense. Well, we left because he realized that he didn't have his Blockbuster membership card. I was starting to get really scared because I thought he might be having a stroke or something. Well, he called his best friend, Chris and Steve started telling him about what was going on. He just randomly began sobbing and then I knew there was something wrong. He was driving (which I should have been doing from the start), so I got him to pull over and we switched places. I had no idea where I was so I had to get Chris to find me on a map and tell me how to get to the hospital. Well, I was freaking out and I was trying to tell Chris where we were. Fortunately, Steve's car has a digital compass built-in, so I knew which direction we were going; without that, it would've been a lot harder to do. Not to mention, it was the first time I had ever driven his car. After frantically trying to figure out where we were, Chris found us and told me how to get to the hospital. He said that he would meet us there with his boyfriend, Bryn. Anyways, we finally made it to the Emergency Room safe and sound (excuse the oxy-moron) of the hospital where his doctor is at. We signed in and we got in to see them after about 10 minutes (it felt like a lifetime though). They took us into a room and we spoke with a doctor where they scheduled an EKG, a CAT scan, and some blood work just to make sure it wasn't something really serious. Chris said that this might be because of the diet Steve is on. After a while, I calmed down, but I was still worried about Steve. I kept going back into his room to check up on him and make sure he was doing all right. I went into his room one time and a nurse was about to draw some blood. Well, I get really squeamish when it comes to stuff like that and he doesn't deal with needles well at all. He often passes out when he gets a shot or blood drawn. Anyways, he laid down on the bed and the nurse got an IV in case he needed that for the CAT scan so he wouldn't have to get poked twice. Later, he said that she was very good at sticking needles into people because no one had ever been able to get a vein in his right arm. Oh, and he didn't pass out; although, I was there when she stuck the needle into his arm and well, I almost did.
Anyways, after he got the CAT scan done, he was dismissed. After all that, he said "screw this diet! I'm getting some pizza!" We went to try to find some pizza and got to a Papa John's. We got up there and they were closed, so we decided to go to Taco Bell instead. We got some "heart-attack on a plate" (no pun intended) and went home.
He made a follow up appointment with his regular doctor for the next day (today) and he had an MRI done. The results are supposed to come out tomorrow, so hopefully everything is OK...

Well, after working at Wal-Mart for eight days in a row (including the day of my 22nd birthday), I finally have two days off: Wednesday and Thursday. I must admit that this break has been much needed since being a cashier at Wally World is harder than I expected it to be. It's not back-breaking by any means; it's just really repetitive. Anyways, tomorrow I am going to sleep in for the first time in, like forever.

OMG, with the start of my new job at Wal-Mart, I've just been ridiculously busy lately! I have open scheduling meaning that I go into work whenever they need me (24 hours a day, 7 days a week). Well, within reason of course. Don't get me wrong, I really like the job, but it's pretty demanding on my social life.
Still, since I started on Tuesday (the day of my orientation), every day that I would get done with my shift, I would just come home and crash. Since I'm not a morning person at all, I've had to schedule my sleep so that I can be up three hours before I get there and functionable (did I just make up a new word?) enough so that I can get my stuff done.
Well, I just wanted to let you guys know that this is the second time (for a total of like 30 minutes) that I've been online in the past week. This means that I probably won't be getting online too much, unfortunately... I need my sleep!
Anyways, I will try to get on here every once in a while, but it's probably going to be cut down quite a bit.
Also, there is some really good news too! I've worked about 60 hours since Tuesday, so my first paycheck will be nice and plump!

Today at 3:00pm, I went to down to Wal-Mart for my job interview. I was as nervous as a porcupine in a balloon factory, but I tried to relax so that I wouldn't be so jittery. I went into the first [of three] interviews and I was drilled by an assistant manager. He was a really nice guy and he seemed to like me. The first one went much better than I expected, so I became really optimistic about getting a job there! Well, until I was told I had another interview...
I have to admit this made me even more nervous than I was for the first interview, but I went out to the waiting area and began to relax again. Shortly afterwards, I went into the second interview; this one didn't turn out as well as I would have liked, but it did turn out well enough for me to be [officially] offered a position at Wal-Mart!
After that part was over, I spoke to the co-manager (who helps manage a team of like 450 employees). OMG, he was awesome! He seemed like such a fun person to work for! So anyways, he told me about Wal-Mart's policies, that it's a drug-free workplace, that it's an equal opportunity employer, etc.
I was told that my offer would be revoked if I didn't pass a background check and a drug test and I had to get those done before I could start. After all three interviews were finished, I left Wal-Mart and I went down to the local clinic place where got my drug test done. I know that passed because I've never done illegal drugs - only prescription and I haven't been on any of that since May 5, 2004.

New camera!!

OMG, I'm so excited right now I can barely stand it!!!

I went downtown earlier in my car (which is now in working condition) and I went to 16th Street Mall where I splurged and purchased a brand-new [black] Canon Digital Rebel XTi!

I got this camera because even though my old camera (Canon PowerShot G3) was a fantastic piece of equipment, I felt (along with several different professional photographers) that I've outgrown it and needed a better one to let my talent and creativity flourish.

Anyways, I also got a 4GB Lexar Professional CompactFlash card since I know my 1GB, 256MB, and two 32MB CompactFlash cards won't hold as many pictures as I'd like. So now, I have a total of ~5,440MB of storage (or about 584 pictures at RAW format).

It cost me like $1,300, but it is sooo worth it!!

Anyways, I just wanted to share my joy!

On Tuesday, I leave for my week-long vacation, so this will probably be my last journal until I come back.

OMG, I went shopping for some clothes and stuff for my trip and I just realized that I spent about $500 on clothes, and other random miscellaneous paraphernalia just today.
Although, I suppose a big chunk of that has to do with my new $200 Armani outfit that I fell in love with and just had to get. It's perfect for the beach, and ooh, damn!
Pictures will be taken!
So anyways, I've been packing my suitcase full of my stuff and I decided to stay up until we leave for the airport since I would've needed to get up at 3:00am anyways (a little over one hour from now). That's just torture getting up that early!! It should be illegal to get up earlier than 8:00am. Plus, I am not a morning person at all, so anyways. OK, I'm starting to ramble and I have laundry to finish. I will add many such photos of México upon my return!

P.S. I forgot to mention that I highlighted my hair again! It's nice.
Oh, and I've been going to a tanning salon thingy (first time ever).

Yum! I'm having some Pepperidge Farm "Fudge Stripe 3-Layer Cake" and OMG! Can anyone say "mouthgasm"?

And yes, it is midnight. Leave me to indulge!
