I just opened a Livestream account to broadcast my desktop as I work. I won't be able to stream actual work pages without permission (will look into that however), but I can work on my own stuff. I most likely won't post any sort of schedule because I'd never be able to stick to it anyway. On occasion I'll make a new journal post if I'm planning on sitting here all day working. I might go invest in a web camera to broadcast me painting Warhammer minis which I've started working on again. In the meantime...

[link]

I haven't updated this in a while and quite a bit has happened since December. Last May my fiancee and I applied for a K1 Visa so that I could move to the USA. It was a long stressful process, but on April 21st I had an interview in Montreal and I got approved. A week later my Visa arrived in the mail, and last Wednesday I made the 4000km trek from Ontario to Seattle, WA. So I'm here now in the US and definitely enjoying it.

It wasn't long before he started to drag me down deeper into his world of nerdom of course. He hasn't been playing Warhammer as much these days because he's moved back to Magic. He just started teaching me how to play 2 days ago with some simple decks, and so far I've got a 5-0 track record. Needless to say, I am quite ruthless and show him no mercy.

Well, there's still packing and cleaning to be done around here. In the meantime I just threw up a bunch of preview pages from Udon's Blog up. Knock yourself out.

Work finally kicked in the past week with some new Street Fighter stuff over Joe Ng's pencils. He's really doing some fantastic stuff on these pages, and I can't wait to show them off.

Holidays have been insanely busy this year. My mom brought me to a Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert, which was amazing. My sister has flown home, and she hasn't been home for the holidays in about 3 years. My mother has also had me doing all her baking for her. And of course, I've spent every other free moment playing Wrath of the Lich King.

Hopefully when things calm down in the new year and I get back to a regular schedule/routine I'll have something new instead of just WIP shots.

I actually typed up a big post here a couple of days ago, but GG Firefox crashed and I lost the post. Anywho...

Got my deadline all done on time. It was a great book to work on despite the rush on it. It ran slightly into my vacation to Seattle, but not a huge deal as everyone worked during the day anyway.

Picked up Age of Conan on release day after I got back and have been playing it pretty much every chance I get. I love the game, but I really wish they would have done more beta testing.

The classes are incredibly messed up. Pure DPS classes weren't doing as much as priests for a while, tanks have a lot of problems with threat. They're pushing out a patch a week to fix some of these issues but it can be painstakingly slow, especially if you rolled up one of those broken classes. I was a bit wary of choosing Barbarian initially, but since have been thoroughly happy with it.

As the class balance issues are slowly hammered out, there's still a lot of other stuff wrong with the game. The game has a lot of memory leak issues and frequently crashes for pretty much everyone I know playing. The system requirements are also insanely demanding. I'm running it at max graphics in 1650*1080, but I only average about 35fps at peak. So unless you're running with a super high end system, the game isn't going to be nearly as enjoyable for you.

Performance issues aside, there are also a hell of a lot of other random bugs. Crafting can be really painful depending on your profession. I chose Armoursmithing and while parts of it aren't too bad, other parts are just a huge pain in the ass.

Put it this way... You can't start crafting until you hit 40. I didn't seriously start working on it until about mid-50's. For your level 40 and 50 armoursmithing quests you need Rough Leather to complete parts of it. Rough Leather drops off level 20 mobs. At level 20 the drop rate is probably around maybe 20%. At level 55 the drop rate is maybe 5%. I spent probably 2 full hours farming gators non-stop in a lowbie zone to get the leather I needed, and that only covered maybe 1/4 of the leather total I needed. The rest was donated by my friends thankfully. It's not any prettier as I work on my level 60 and 70 quest chains that need Calloused Leather. Off I go to farm monkeys in the mountains. At least this time my level isn't as badly far off and the drop rate seems to be more acceptable.

Outside of occasionally working on your crafting quests, the only other thing to do right now is level. Oh, leveling is also extremely painful once you hit 40. Life up to 40 is pretty easy. Quests are plentiful, and levels go by quickly. Life after 40 is a pain in the ass. Suddenly instead of having a choice of 3 zones to quest in, you're presented with 1 zone. Unless you do every single quest in that zone, including the dungeon and all the elite quests, you're going to be forced to grind out a few levels. Finally you decide to hit the new zone, but upon arrival you realize you can only get a couple of quests. They get you half a level and then you have to grind out the other half. Rince and repeat. It pretty much goes on like this from 50 until the level cap. You get a new level and pick up 2 new quests, complete them, and then grind out the remainder of the level. I loved the game up to 40, but I think Funcom spent too much time working on the content up to 40, and not nearly enough on the content after 40. Life after 40 kind of sucks.

The interface is good in design, but horrible in implementation. They're not allowing for crazy mods to be written for the game so we're stuck with package UI deals that use XML coding. The chat system is horrid. You can't create and join custom channels which would have been handy for my WoW friends and I. The friends/guild UI is a mess. I don't mind my friends and guild list being on the same page, but for god's sake if one of my friends is in the same guild as me, they should still remain in their own section. Right now I have to sort through about 80 people online to see if my friends are online.

Aside from A LOT of insanely broken/stupid features currently in game, they did get a lot of things right. Resource collecting for example is actually kind of fun and relaxing. Okay, gathering leather sucks but everything else is fun *if* you're in a guild. Your guild will have a chunk of land in a resource zone for building its city, and pending that no one else is in there at the time you get free reign on all the materials in there. You literally run around finding nodes at 100%. The public resource zones suck and rarely will you find anything greater than 20%.

The combat is fun and refreshing. A lot of people have been complaining about the combo system saying it's too hard, but I think they need to just not be a bunch of scrubs and learn to play.

Even...

Wowowowow... What a week.

At the beginning of the week, I found out I have a book coming in. This is on top of the 2 other projects I'm currently finishing up. I'm super excited because it's been a full year since I actually worked on a comic book (it's been mostly video game stuff this year) and because I get to work with Joe.

The only problem with it is that the book is due on May 13th. Considering I already work a full time job, Monday to Friday 8-5, coupled with my 4 day raid schedule for Warcraft and I hit the gym 4 days per week, that leaves very little time for a book! So, I informed my raid, and told them I was going to be AWOL for a solid month+, nothing I could do about it. Work > Video Games. A lesson I know all too well, unfortunately some of the other people in my guild do not. Not my problem.

Anywho, it'll be a while before I have anything new to post. I'll have to wait for the book to get released (late June) before I can post anything. Maybe I'll dig up some older work in the meantime.

It launched the head-to-head fighting game genre and brought together millions of players around the globe to do battle, first at arcades and then, later on, across a variety of home consoles. 2008 is the 20th anniversary of the franchise.

The Street Fighter fans who were young players when the franchise first launched are now grown up, but their love of the game continues. This high quality art book, produced by UDON Entertainment, is a cross section of brand new artistic interpretations of the Street Fighter characters in a series of full size illustrations. The book will launch at this year's San Diego Comicon as part of Capcom's Street Fighter Celebration content.

UDON artists and other comic, video game and freelance illustrators are invited to interpret their favorite Street Fighter characters for inclusion in this special book. Along with these invited artists is a widespread open art submission call to the video game fan communities to submit artwork for possible inclusion in the tribute volume.

You could be part of Capcom history as part of the Street Fighter Tribute art book and have your artwork showcased alongside top names in the industry!

We want to see your unique vision of Street Fighter!

Click here to read more! [link]
