I guess I'll update. It's good to do it every, oh, three months or so. Especially when one's avoiding Physics. So, I'm scanning in some stuff right now for y'all's entertainment. (Am I the only one who feels as though there's something wrong with a word that contains two apostrophes? Is "y'all" even an official word? I don't know if they make contractions official....) ANYWAYS, I just finished scanning in a fantastic U.S. History project from last year. Involving President GAR, Andrew Jackson, of course.

So, perhaps I should say what I've been doing with my life. Let's see...I've been coasting my way through Calc and Physics as usual. I've been having a splendidly boring time at work. Though we had a regular come in on Tuesday and ask if she could use her JoAnn's giftcard here. UHHHHHHHHHHHH, THAT'S NOT HOW IT WORKS. Though she's better than the two customers who wanted me to fix when they only got a 50% discount, and not a 60% discount, on something. Which requires me to do a return, shit-tons of paperwork, and re-checkout the item, with a bunch of people in line. That isn't the bad part. It's for an item under a dollar. They are doing this for TEN CENTS. WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT YOU MISERABLE CUNT? I mean, if it had been over a dollar, I might understand, but TEN FREAKIN' CENTS. Retail hates you. Annnnnnyways, what else have I been up to? Ohhh, yes, in my splendidly delinquent-ful "World Crafts" class, I've been managing to effectively ignore every single requirement that we're graded on, and yet get all of the points...I'm rather proud, really. It could be because my art doesn't look like a sheets of newspaper covered in Elmer's glue, but I like to think it's because I'm awesome and bad-ass. Because I am. Ahhh, I spent a good hour of my day today watching Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog for the first time, after seeing Neil Patrick Harris on SNL last night (I always thought he was a rather adorable person on the few episodes of How I Met Your Mother that I watched)...seriously kids, go to NBC.com, go to the SNL video section and watch "Today Show." (The first part is crappy...fast-foward to the 2:00 mark.) Pelvic thrusts at their finest, truly. OHHHH, I should inform you of my intent to have an epic prom dress. Why buy an over-priced gown that looks like everyone else's when you can go and get a boring one from Valu Thrift and jazz it up? :3 I figure this will be much more comfortable than duct tape...plus feathers are awesome. (Think raven, not ostrich or maribou.) (On a strange note, am I the only one who thinks cutaway tails are pretty much the best kind of tux, ever?) I need to teach me and a certain Romanian to dance....

I wish I was a guy so I could go as Jesus to the prom. Can't you just see everyone grinding on his cross? AWESOME. "Leave room for me, guys!"

Oh, yeah, I did one of those shuffle quizzes. I'm not citing sources.
1.What do people assume when they first look at me?
Anyone Else But You- Juno
I’m a pregnant highschool girl?

2.What will be a big challenge in life for me?
I Hate this Song- Secondhand Serenade
Being a music snob.

3. Am I a good boyfriend/girlfriend?
You Are Loved- Building 429
God says I’m pretty good.

4. Do I have a Secret Admirer?
Goin’ Down- The Monkees
Well, now that I’m floating down a river, maybe not….

5.Will I ever become manically depressed in my life?
Thank God I’m A Country Boy- Hampton and the Hampsters
I got me a fine life, I got me a fiddle.

6. Am I loved?
Imaginary- Evanescence
UHHH, THIS DOESN’T BODE WELL.

7. Is someone trying to kill me?
Oh, It is Love- Hellogoodbye
With love.

8.What is my sexual preference?
Breathe- Erasure
The man singing this sounds a bit effeminate, but I’m not sure if that counts.

9.What am I afraid of?
Something You’ll Never Find- Barenaked Ladies
That’s reassuring.

10.What will I be doing in a few years?
V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N- Puffy Amiyumi
I assume I’ll be on vacation! Or Japanese!

11.What is some good advice for me?
Get Up- Quietdrive
…out of my ocean-side seat and get my own drink?

12.What should I do instead of this quiz?
Sea of Love- Cat Power
I’ll be taking my love to the sea…AND DROWNING HIM.

13.Will you get married?
Heaven- Bryan Adams
Uhh, according to the song, it’s a good thing I’m doing this quiz…it’s hard to marry drowned people IN AMERICA.

14.What is the story of your life?
Breakthrough- Gravitation
KLAXION! (Only Kathleen would get this one….)

15.How can you get ahead in life?
Blood- Bad Luck
Become a sparkly, gay vampire?

16.What is the best thing about your friends?
If I Was Gay- Stephen Lynch
SO PERFECT.
<br...

I seem to be too busy to post up stuff...ever.

What you might see in the near-to-distant future, my little cabbages:

A little tutorial on weaving a scarf that I'm currently working on.

Some of my lovely notebook doodles.

Perhaps I'll even borrow some of the notes I've sent to people and scan the artwork off of those...they're some of my favorites.

Yeah, I think I'm too lazy to do an actual piece from scratch right now. Sorry about that...as you might notice, I'mmmmm sorta tired tonite. Or bloated from eating nasty nacho cheese/parmesean & garlic popcorn at the theatre. Ewwww.

I really want to do a tutorial about that scarf...it seems like I should, after all the effort I've put into it thus far. (Ohh, how neglectful was I of my sweet physics studies) The pattern is pretty damn kick-ass, if I do say so myself. Now I just have to find the proper yarn and sizing for it all to turn into the masterpiece that I know it will become. Yeah, I'm sort of obsessed. :3

Pleeeeease, pleeeeeasse....find people that might benefit from HelpMyArt...we need "customers." Badly.

I've learned my lesson of the day. If you're 5'1", fully grown, it is not advisable to try and carry four folding chairs at once into your basement. Bad idea.

Things to Watch:
Are You Being Served?, Blackadder, My Hero, and Posh Nosh.
(It would appear as though I'm on a British comedy spree.)

House of Flying Daggers
(Watched Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon? Flying Daggers makes CTHD look like crap in comparison.)

Rebelde
(Oh yes, I have no idea how to speak Spanish. But I adore this mega-hit teen soap-opera. And their uniforms are to die for. Look it up, it's also called RBD.)

Meet Joe Black
(All Host Club fans, rent this. You only need to watch the first hour, because after that, the script gets even worse. The similarities of Joe Black to a certain Host Club member at times are freaky.)

Well, I’ve been a little bum.

Not exactly. I’ve been attempting to clean my room, seeing as I’m having a mother and a daughter stay at my house on an exchange trip next week. Hopefully that’ll be fun. Also, I’ve been spending all my free time working on Chance Dance page one. I did the first page once, but it looked terrible. So I did it once more, but it wasn’t much better. So I figured coloring would help. It does, but it makes it look worse at the same time. Also, I can’t find a good program to put text in with. Phooey.

I really need to make a list. I love lists, I really do. (For some reason, I feel guilty for using “I” so much.) Anyways, I shall elaborate on all the beautiful art supplies that I have so copiously wasted my money on.
I’ll even categorize, and do partial reviews!

Coloring:
-Mainly, Prismacolor markers. They’re cheap as far as alcohol markers are concerned, at approx. $3 a marker. They’re also pretty easy to find. I mostly bought mine from JoAnne’s. They’re a great introduction into alcohol markers. (If you get good with Prismas, you’ll be a million times better with Copics)
-Copics. I just got my first one the other day, and it is glorious! A note: If you’re going to buy Copics, get Copic Sketch markers. The sketch tip is the only reason that they’re preferable over Prismas, really.
-Crayola colored pencils. The good old stand-bys. If you have old ones hanging around the house, use those. The older, the better. And, NEVER, in any circumstance, use Rose Art. I will personally come to your house and beat you if you do. That is all.

Inking:
-I used to use Sakura Micron pens all the time. They’re standard felt-tips, and are also easy to get your hands on. But don’t waste your time on 005s. The tip is gone in a matter of minutes.
-Zig felt-tips are also great. I’ve had great results with the mid-size ones, and the ink is very dark.
-I just bought a Copic Multiliner. It’s been working out pretty well, thus far. Nothing amazing, really.
-IC Comic G and Maru nibs with Tackikawa penholders. The lines have been fabulous, though my G pen has had some issues with spotting. Probably my fault, anyways. The pen holders are adorable, though! My G pen holder is honey-colored wood with gold lettering, and my Maru pen holder is light turquoise. I could stare at them all day, I swear.
-A Tachikawa School pen with internal ink cartridge. I just bought this, so I haven’t gotten it working just right yet. The ink isn’t flowing consistently…hopefully it will fix itself.
-Deleter white ink (#2). #2 is the thick stuff, so I had to water it down for use in my pens. It’s very opaque, and doesn’t bleed, so I’m satisfied.
-Don’t use “opaque white” paint markers. They’re not opaque. I’ve bought two different examples, and both of them are terribly transparent, even after multiple coats.
-I have black ink, but the bottle leaked, so I no longer know the brand. It’s India Ink, though. Under no circumstances should anyone use acrylic ink. Ever. It’s a hunk of *insert expletive here*. It doesn’t go on smoothly, dries terribly, and doesn’t work with any type of marker. Bad.
-Koh-I-Noor Rapido Sketch pens. They’re brutally expensive, but have a metal nib that produces incredibly thin and even lines. They don’t work well with rough paper.

Other (Mostly Paper):
-Aquabee manga paper. After you rip off the hideous cover, you’ll discover some fantastic paper! Similar to Smooth Bistol, it has almost no grain, making it ridiculously smooth. What it’s meant for: alcohol markers. It is the perfect surface for your expensive little coloring utensils.
-Paint Shop Pro 8. I’m in love with it…so beautiful. It’s taken me a long time to work it well. I’ve just recently discovered the joys of scripts and the brush variance palette. It’s not as nice as PS, I’m sure, but I still love it from the bottom of my heart.
-Maxon Standard Weight A4 paper. It has a really nice grain, and usually has beautiful lines. The only downside is it tends to bleed with G pens, due to the amount of ink. Other than that, I’ve enjoyed the grids immensely.

NOT-SO-BORING TIME!

Depends on how you look at it.

I now have competition in my mind for the best place to be.

My all-time-favorite place to be is dancing in a downpour. (No thunder, though.) But then, I stumbled upon a line in Ouran High School Host Club that made me think of a situation that would rival that. This is going to sound dirty, but it’s not: sleeping in a bed between two people you love. To clarify this, I would say one of those really gushy and fluffy hotel bed that smell so nice and clean would be my ideal bed. And to clarify the people that would be involved, I said it wo...

Ahhh, another journal! I’ll keep this one quick, if I can.

I launched the first pages of my comic/manga on two sites, [link] and [link]! I’m under the same username, gelatinoussugar, at both places, and the comic is entitled “Chance Dance.” Please give it a look when you have the time. If I get enough support, I’ll start putting it up here at DevART. Thanks!

My bathroom is now overflowing with every object of dental paraphernalia available in the known world. I’m truly convinced. Well, aside from &#147ower Flossers,” which strike a note more closely related to the movie Hostel than oral hygiene. I really do prefer putting things in my mouth that I don’t come packaged with reading materials defining the different ways in which you are capable of electrocuting yourself with the product. But maybe that’s just me….

Last thought of the night: how many people are depressed? I almost feel rejected because I’m happy. Strangest thing, really. So, anyone who’s reading this, are you depressed? We’ll start a poll-type thing in the comments. And if you are, don’t be afraid to say so. It makes you no less of an awesome person. (As Iustin would say, it’s not your fault.)
Tata for now, my pretties!

I do apologize for my absence of the last week or so. First I was gone for four days at a leadership retreat, then we had issues getting our new DSL. Gomen.

Let us see...REVIEW TIME!

Number One: Okay, so I don't really have anything to review. I do, however, recommend the Rainbow Boys series by Alex Sanchez. They're some amazing GLBT literature that isn't all about them being gay, it's more about them being people. Fantastic. (They're pretty quick reads, too.)

Number Two: I've fallen in love with Patrick Demarchelier...amazing fashion photographer, he is. I've been trying to locate a photo online, but to no avail. If you'd like, look up the book "Tiffany In Fashion" by John Loring, and proceed to page 244. It's a fantastic photograph, and a fatastic model. Snaps for them.

Art Time!

I swear I have a picture for this week...really. I'll get it up today or the next day. Maybe.

The more important news is I'm starting my manga this week! Can't wait until my over-zealous ambition is squashed. I need to think up a blurb for it though. Something that makes sense and sounds nice. The plot goes something like: four girls are forced by their respective parents into entering a competition to compete for the right to marry an apathetic prince. They have one year to "win his heart," but frankly, none of them really want to. So, they have to endure a year of living in the slightly-insane royal household and see what messes they can get into, all-expenses-paid, of course. Yep. The premise sounds pretty bad and all, but it's all just setting, really, since the characters are what makes it float. And all the characters kill every cliche there is. Hard. I do hope I can get the art to work out, since I'm out of practice. But does anyone think they could help writing a blurb for it? I can provide more details to anyone who'd like to help.

I'm terribly hungry right now, so I think I may depart...ta-ta!

Oh, dear, it's a journal about something BESIDES art critique! Isn't that mind-blowing?

Anyways, I think it's neccessary to have a long discourse about a few things I have discovered of late.

First off: Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl manga. To summarize the plot for all of you out there, boy is rejected by girl, boy is hit by spaceship, boy is turned into girl, boy/girl gets into love triangle with girl and girl #2 while getting lightly molested by both aforementioned girls and his/her parents. That about sums it up. What a fatastic manga. Overall, it's very light and fun, which is a welcome relief from all the melodramatic angst that seems to eternally hover over shoujo manga, especially shoujo-ai. I would highly recommend this to any fan, regardless of gender-pairing preferences. It's a great introduction into the shoujo-ai fandom, since you're able to interpret it as girl-on-girl, or guy-on-girl. Either way, it's a cute story with original art, so give it a look!

Second off: Choxie Truffles. Let's be honest, no one really expects a massive retail chain to sell great chocolate. Especially if most of its sales come from things like Raspberry-Flavored Poptarts, Bob the Builder DVDs and Depends. But Target actually has good chocolate. I didn't believe it myself at first, but then I tried Choxie dark chocolate espresso truffle squares, and nearly died from pleasure. And this is coming from a hardcore chocolate snob who feels physical pain when people eat Hershey's anything. The taste of those truffles is indescribable...melt-in-your-mouth, unfathomable smoothness that has no beginning or end...my god, you NEED to experience this. (The peanut butter-filled ones are pretty good too.)

Third Off: Scharffen Berger 82% cocoa bittersweet chocolate. The best chocolate I have tasted in the 80% range. It has a deep fruity taste that leads you to believe that you are actually biting into some exotic fruit rather than a chocolate bar, and almost no unpleasant aftertaste that accompanies so many high-cocoa concentration bars. If you enjoy dark chocolate, this is a must-taste bar. For those of you who prefer the lighter, milkier stuff, Scharffen Berger also makes a 70% bar, and Lindt 70% is an amazing chocolate that's also easy to find.

Well, those are my unofficial endorsments today. How I adore shopping trips.

Story Time! (Every good journal needs one.)

So, about two months ago, I had my wisdom teeth removed. All-in-all, it wasn't that bad, I lived. Anyways, at the POTC3 premiere, I was eating popcorn. Suddenly, as I was biting into one of the kernels, I felt something start to hurt. Well, I figured I had just cut my gums a bit, and carried on. Two weeks later, my gums still hurt, and my cheek begins to puff up. Being the rational human being that I am, I figure that I've been poking my gums too much, which I had been, and had irritated the flesh, and it was going to go away. It didn't. So, as of this morning, and as of right now, my cheek is massive. I called the oral surgeons to ask if the swelling could be related to my wisdom tooth removal, and the receptionist assured me that I would recieve a consultation over the phone soon. So I waited for four hours, nervous and bored out of my mind until I had a return phone call, which ended with an appointment in another three hours. And, of course, I was bored out of my mind for three hours with a cheek the size of a tennis ball. Whoopie. Anyways, I have pennicilin now. Yay. Drugs are GOOD.

My art-in-progress.

-Finishing touches on a bust of Bou from Antic Cafe
-Coloring the Deru and Kuroni picture (In my Scraps)
-Coloring Animalistic (Also in Scraps) (It looks better inked, I swear!)
-Doing a super-cute Loveless picture that I've been dreaming up
-Painting the uber-secret ceramic piece of awesome-ness
-Some other things, I'm sure...I tend to forget.
Artist Love <3

Here's to the unbelievably talented ~bluesaga331! She has one of the most graceful art styles I've seen recently, and is well on her way to becoming a devART celebrity. So please, stop by her gallery and give her some well-deserved love.

The end is approaching...but not without some *insert your groans here* ~helpmyart news! So, I've asked for help and all that jazz, but what the group needs now is people to help. We get our business from word of mouth (or note), and without people to help, we can't grow! All I'm asking for is some shameless promotion. We LOVE shameless promotion, and so do you! Please, I'm on my tiny knees to beg of you, help! (You don't have to...but hey, it's worth a shot!)

'Til next time, my prettys, ta-ta! <3

Preface: Not too long ago, it came to my attention that there is almost no constructive criticism around here, and I made a step to change that. Now, I want to do more, so I have devised a plan.

The Plan (creative title, I know): Create an account here with info and links to artists here who would be willing to hand out some constructive criticism. (I'm not positive how I'll set the whole page up, so if someone would be willing to assist....) But, of course, I'll first need some lovely volunteers to be those helpful artists!

The Gorgeous Volunteers (Maybe YOU?): You don't need a million fans. You don't need to be anything other than helpful. All I really am looking for in avolunteer, art-wise, is a good understanding of art techniques, principles, human anatomy, and an ability to tell what's wrong when a picture looks "off." But above everything else, you need to be able to be kind and compliment what is done well, even if it's hard to see, and politely inform an artist of what could use a little help. (That, and an ability to write like you've passed second grade, like you hopefully have!)

So, if any of you think you could help see the dream to completion, drop me a comment or note! I promise I won't bite. (Hard, anyways...)

Love, GS <3

I've been commenting and talking to a lot of people on DA today, and I came to realize that for an art community, there doesn't seem to be much constructive criticism. I'd like to change that.

TO ANYONE READING THIS: If you want someone to help you with your artwork and honestly tell you things that you've done well and things that can help you out a little, I am MORE than happy to do so.

I know I'm most certainly not the best artist in the world, I know my own flaws that I'm working on. But sometimes people are afraid to say that you might need to fix something here or there, and I'd like to be the one to help if you need it. (Don't worry, I am the last person to go flaming someone or be rude. Unless, of course, you're being a nasty human being and deserve it. But that's beside the point.)

Anyone who's reading this, please feel free to send me anything you want some honest advice on. I've got loads of amazing artist friends who would also be more than happy to help, I'm sure, so don't be afraid!
