modern illustration industry

in the last few years i've been noticing some amazing illustrations, fantasy illustrations. the 3-dimensionality, the details, the lighting are amazing!

some of them were too good to be true. then i realized that most of these have been done with the aid of 3D softwares.

i know some people who can draw everything from scratch and with the aid of memory and experience, they can draw a full composition with realistic lighting. i mean, full landscapes or full scenes with people, animals, etc. now with the help of 3D softwares, anyone can do this.

i'm not against it since i always feel that technology will remove limitations and take us to another level. however, i sometimes feel like art and design is becoming an industry, people are forgetting that the most important thing is knowing the "full craft."

in a way i feel like it's cheating. a bit like using steroids in sports. anyway i'm not against anything here it's just something that came up and i wanted to write about. in a way i'm a bit disappointed that schools now produce more machines than real artist/designers.

i'm a bit bitter since at work we're looking for new designers but all we run into are people who knows how to use the tools and the softwares but know nothing at all about design and craft. still they call themselves designers and artists. bahÂ! ok i think this is going nowhere.

US Cellular, a pretty good company, a really bad logo.

A logo maybe just an image but it can tell you a lot about a company. US Cellular gives great service and some special features, but i just can't imagine carrying a phone with that logo. They have some beautiful phones but once the slap that logo on it, the phone suddenly becomes ugly.

It's like a Ford car, they do have some great designs every-now-and-then but once they put that logo on it, it loses a lot of points in the visual area.

How can somebody spend so much time and money designing something to look and function its best and to just put a bad finish on itÂ

if they really cared about their work they would see to it that everything is at its best, all the way to the end.

I can see US Cellular getting even more customer and business just by changing their logo. They've got a great service, now all they need is to fix their image.

it really annoys me how a great deal of people in the world still do not know the difference between computer graphic artist and graphic designers.

i guess graphic designers were meant to to run the modern world in the shadows. itÂs nice to have the power but sad that we rarely get the credit. i guess thatÂs how it will be.

being in the shadows all the time doesnÂt bother me so much, but at least people should know that computer graphic artists and graphic designers are NOT the same.

went to maxwell street market today. it's kinda like a black market thing. there are a few places there that sells films.

we got lucky today and found a bin full of expired films. they had elite chromes and kodachromes for a dollar a roll. amazingly cheap. they expired at 2005 but my brother and i tried a couple rolls a while back and they worked perfectly.

can't wait to try them out! is this amazing news or what?

the first one is where i put most of my time nowadays. the latter is one i work on for a league i play in.

currently i'm working on 3 websites. they're really dragging, well it's my fault too. i took up more work that i have time for. anyways, i hate IE(M$ internet explorer)! if you still use that piece o' crap... then you are contributing to destroying the visual beauty of the world. you're also not seeing the world(internet) as it should be. anyways, damn! i'd be done if it wasn't for IE.

10 shades darker, sunburnt, and already shedding skin. it was a long 2 weeks but now that it's over it feels it was too short. now that i'm back it seems as if those two weeks were only a dream. it was shocking for me, having lived in the states for 12 years and not having been back. it was hard realizing what life is like over there, the odd thing is that people there don't mind their way of life and they're always happy.

as for me, i've already had a taste of a different way of life, adjusting back to how i used to live was hard, and when i've just began to accept things and get used to them i had to stop and leave. that's how it always is. it was wonderful though!

i've posted a flash instructional piece. the only
problem with it is that it's a bit wide so you'll have to
pump up your screen's resolution to max if you
want to view it properly.

anyway, i submitted some photos after a long barren submission period. i think the colors can be fixed a bit more but i'm content with the color correction in its current state, well enough of this babblin' here's the full storey of that night. it's not that exciting so don't expect it to blow your mind away:

as for the title it's just a combination of random events. this day we played with rubberbands and the next day we went to some gallery show, although the gallery show photos aren't there the title of the combined folder of photos for both days was titled Rubberband Galleries, so yeah just random senseless things. that's what i'm all about. cheerio!

people, i need help. i'm looking into buying a scanner. a flatbed scanner, yes!

well, i was going to buy a new one mainly because i need to scan negatives, have any of you guys scanned negatives using flatbed scanners? how is the quality? any problems with them, any complaints? recommendations?

i'd buy a real film scanner pero esta muy expensivo, y los flatbeds has more functions odd i started writing in spanish for some reason. i hope i said that right. anyways, help!

just wanted a new entry. i've got a load of things to do for school, only two weeks before this semester ends so i'm pretty overwhelmed. anyhow, i've got something to cheer up about, i finally got an olympus xa, one in really good condition, plus for a good price. bad thing is that i bought it from this nice guy from germany, so i don't know how long it'll take to get here. hehe, i'll be shooting in film again.

i'll be doing more with my d70 too. as soon as school's over it's gonna be fun. i just hope it doesn't snow a lot.

i'm also testing this new thumbnail feature that i've never used so here's some old drawings that i've done years ago:

i used to dream of becoming a fanasy artist so i used to draw these all the time. now i've decided to become a full-time graphic designer, so no time for these anymore.

atribeofone tagged me waaay back some time ago and never really got to do one, so here it is now.

01. when i was four i dreamed of becoming an engineer, my goal was to build my mom the tallest building in the world

02. at 6yrs old my mom left for the USofA, i never knew i wasn't gonna see her for 5 years

03. i grew up in a rural village in Ilo-ilo, the island of Panay in Philippines

04. when i was almost 11yrs old the wish i made to a shooting stare came true, i arrived in USA

05. my type is a fair skinned girl with dark hair and dark eyes, or one that's just really dark and adorable

06. i don't know why but i prefer songs without lyrics, usually Scandinavian

07. first thing i notice about the opposite sex is the way they dress

08. the mainstream is for simpletons, not that it's bad or anything that's just what i think

09. i first enrolled as an engineering student in college but have switched to design, now i'm going for Graphic Design

10. i can't live without changes, new things excite me, it's like my fuel, as long as it's good changes

11. when i was new, a foreigner, here in the USofA other kids in school were cruel as hell!

12. so i made it my goal to surpass them at everything they considered themselves good at, and i did, took me a couple of years

13. i hate being blamed for things i didn't do, even if it's insignificant, i can't just let it go

14. a year ago i had my future mapped out, then i met someone, now everything's uncertain but it doesn't really bother me

15. if i was given a chance to relive my life over from the beginning i would just take it, not even a second though, heck not even a first

16. on the 3rd of June, 1983 my Mom gave birth to me at home, not in a hospital

17. a few years ago i made it my goal to be happy everyday, it was so much work but that year many of the greatest things in my life happened

18. my ancestors were aboriginese, chinese, and spanish, i can still see it in my face

19. i'm almost never ready for anything but i'm good at improvising, i'm one lazy nerd

blech! i am busy. i wish i'd have time for you guys. i really want to comment on some of your works but just can't! so much shit to do for school.

i have a couple flash animation project, one just animated one interactive. i've got a couple book cover to redesign and another flash animation to fix. i volunteered to redesign a site which was put together by someone who doesn't know how to design a webpage. the server is a mess and all the links are in every corner of the page. i just finished a 25x120 inches photo realistic drawing for drawing class. plus there is still more to come. i need a break!

anyway, don't expect comments or anything from me soon. just wait, you'll eventually get it. i just got tagged too, i'm sure you all know what's that about. i'd love to write one up but just don't have time. maybe this weekend, heeehee.

i recently bought a new lense. awesome! i feel a bit like a photographer now. anyways, i'm a bit disappointed at the lense. it's really good for the money i think but i there are some things i don't like about it. it's just as Shutterbug reviewed it. 70-300mm review

anyways, i'm thinking about selling it soon. for those of you who have zoom lens or tele which ones do you recommend. do you like the ones you have now? which one is it?

i've finally gotten my camera back. actually i've had it for about a week now. it works awesome! Nikon came through for me. it took them about a month and a half but it works now.

hopefully i'll be able to submit some new photos soon. i've been shooting a lot but no time to submit. well it's really hot here right now and it just makes me plain lazy. but i also have a few other projects to work on.

i've finally gotten my domain and my hosting setup so i'll be putting up my website soon. plus i also have stuff i need to get done for work and also other people. anyway, hope you're all doing great. DA's been really different these past few months. i feel it's not as exciting as it used to be. hopefully it's just a phase.
