Starting a new volunteer job, and I don't know if it's worth it.

My first complaint is that I was 10 minutes late to a training class. I'm not going to make excuses for myself, as I am always 5 to 10 minutes late for everything, and could care less about that 5 or 10 because because i am not that uptight about life. I can accept the fact that I'm late, and that might have repercussions. What I have a problem with is when I showed up late the lady training the people was not very nice to me, and was pretty blunt and basically a bitch to me, and told me I'd have to reschedule and couldn't attend her class that day without any I'm sorry or nothing. I could accept her condescending attitude at my job where I was getting paid to put up with it, but this is volunteer, and I'm doing this for free and working it around my work and home schedule. I can accept the fact that I might not be able to attend the rest of the class if I missed important information in the first 10 minutes, but I can't accept her attitude towards me when I'm doing this for free. She isn't the only one that works there that doesn't seem to get the fact that you have to be nice to the people you are training, because they are doing it for free...but hey, that also means that if I ever reach a point where I've totally had enough of attitudes around there, I have absolutely nothing to lose to speak my mind and tell someone exactly what I think about them.

Which brings me to my next point. I also don't know if I want to spend my extra time helping at this certain volunteer job. Albeit a few people I met down there(1 or 2), everyone works like a zombie down there, and/or is way serious with no personality. It just sounds like a horrible place to spend my free time. I have a full time job, and this place seems 5 times the more prison atmosphere than my work. I hardly see people talking, and hardly anyone working there has been friendly(except at the orientation...probably just to lure you in), except to the costumers. I like to laugh and joke while I work, but don't get me wrong I'm still a very sharp and good worker, and this definitely doesn't seem like the place to do that sort of thing.
I'll probably stick it out, and see if there is an area that is like what I want in the place, but my hopes are low right now.

I've lost 25 pounds in the last 3 weeks.

...but I've finally hit my plateau. My metabolism has has slowed down to "survive" on my new calorie intake. 25 pounds was a good start though.
To counteract this metabolism change, I'm going to follow the binge diet that Sly Stallone uses. You stay an your low calorie diet throughout the week, and then one day you binge til you are so full after meals. It makes your body kick up your metabolism to process the overload of food you just threw at it. Yesterday was my binge day, and oh god I'm glad it's over. Overeating makes you feel so much crappier than eating small light meals.
I'm also do some muscle building exercises. Not too many, just a few to build muscle. Building muscle kicks up your metabolism for up to 12 hours after the workout.

Just sharing somewhere on the net, of where I'm at in my weight loss.

If you ask some of the pros on this site how long they spend in particular locations, I'm sure they'll tell you quite a while sometimes. I'm sure they also go to specific places at specific times to get their pictures for the right look and lighting.

Me? I just don't have the patience to stay in one spot for very long. I'd say I'm more of shoot and go explorer than a photo man. Taking pictures while I'm exploring the wilderness just makes it more fun to look for things that are interesting, because I can show them to people later.

Just a thought I had about myself and my hobby.

Explored a large wooded valley in the city I never even knew was there.

...but at the end of my hike, I came across a lil squirrel that was sick/injured laying in the creek bed. He had a sore on his backside, that looked like a predator claw attack or such and was oozing some puss.
omg, it was so sad....I put on my gloves and warmed him up and dried him off.
tried to give him something to eat, but he wasn't in the mood to.
He was coughing a lil cough while he snuggled in my gloves....
At least he still had some bite left in him. He bit my gloves while I moved him.

Rep. Ed Merkey and the FDA is trying to take away your right to choose what pills you buy over the counter, and what services you employ with your own money.
If you buy any pills that has not been approved by the FDA, those pills could and probably would be pulled off of the shelves if this FDA passes their "Guidance for Industry on
Complementary and Alternative Medicine Products and Their Regulation by the Food and Drug Administration draft".([link])
The draft defines four areas that will be under control of the FDA, and be banned at their discretion if it passes.

1. Biologically Based Practices
Including:
"botanicals, animal-derived extracts, vitamins, minerals, fatty acids,
amino acids, proteins, prebiotics5and probiotics: whole diets, and "functional foods".'"

Almost everyone I know takes something on this list. Do you?
Maybe not soon...

2. Manipulative and Body-Based Practices
Including:
"chiropractic and osteopathic manipulation, massage therapy, Tui Na, reflexology, rolfing, Brown
technique, Trager bodywork, Alexander technique, Feldenkrais method"

Go to a chiropractor or massage therapy?
If this passes, it could be illegal.

3. Mind-Body Medicine
Including:
"relaxation, hypnosis, visual imagery, meditation, yoga, biofeedback, tai
chi, qi gong, cognitive-behavioral therapies, group support, autogenic training, and
spirituality."

That covers a lot of vague territory!!
Do you like how a vague spirituality is thrown in at the end?...does that mean that the FDA will have jurisdiction over whether you can get healed by GOD or not?!
So long freedom of religion along with freedom of choice!

and
4. Energy Medicine
Includes:
"Veritable energy fields, which can be measured and use either mechanical
vibrations (such as sound) or electromagnetic forces, including visible
light, magnetism, monochromatic radiation (such as laser light), and other
light rays"

How would all these services and products be approved?
"The PHS Act requires individuals or companies who manufacture biologics for introduction into interstate commerce to hold a license for the products. These licenses are issued by CBER."
Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER) is the Center within FDA that regulates biological products for human use under applicable federal laws, including the Public Health Service Act and the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.

This center will have the authority on what you can or cannot buy!
You want vitamins or minerals?
NO! They've been pulled off the shelves!

Time for Yoga class, a group meeting for support, or church?
Sorry, it is indefinitely postposted pending an FDA investigation whether the government thinks it's good for you or not!

If you are concerned after reading this, you're probably wondering what you can do about this. Will the FDA listen to us citizens who it is supposed to be working for?
Or is it only beholden unto itself?
How do you stop a juggernaut like the FDA, which holds no votes by the people for what actions it, takes?

Well I researched if the FDA does have any oversight, and I found out they definitely do.
More than that, I also found out that the FDA is being prodded into this action by one of our own Congressman.

Rep. Edward J. Markey who is a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which has jurisdiction over the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), sent a letter to the FDA
([link]) basically calling them into action to pass this draft which can make it illegal to practice your beliefs and buy what you want regarding your health and spirituality under their say so.

Now I know for sure that Rep. Edward J. Markey is beholden to the people, because we vote him in!
I propose to send this to as many people as you know through email or other means, telling them not to support any of the congressmen in the next election which are on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and write to them telling them what they think about this new FDA draft.([link])
Those members are:

Henry A. Waxman, CA
Joe Barton, TX, Ranking Member
Edward J. Markey, MA
Ralph M. Hall, TX
Rick Boucher, VA
J. Dennis Hastert, IL
Edolphus Towns, NY
Fred Upton, MI
Frank Pallone, Jr., NJ
Cliff Stearns, FL
Well, I guess it still works, but the flash latch broke off and so did the flash pop up button.
I'll take it in today to get a repair estimate.

...not so easy to replace, is the lens that snapped off of it as it rolled down the mountainside.

Since I have to save up for a new lens, I might as well make it a wide angle. I think I'll go for the Sigma 12-24mm.

If anyone else is having full view issues using Firefox, here is what I did to fix that:

-Open a blank browser tab in Firefox.

-type in about:config in the addres bar.

-scroll down to dom.disable_image_src_set and double click in the value setting true if it is set as that. That will change it to false, which fixed this prob for me.

1- Sometimes I can't full view....nevermind. actually I can NEVER full view while in firefox.

2- the page on deviations gets a partial load and tucked under the disclaimer and help links with no scroll bar.

3- when replying to comments, it will put you all the way at the top of the page again and you have to scroll down once again to reply to the comment.
