    • Sometime in the past week, my motherboard died. Currently, I'm fighting with ASUS to get it replaced under warranty. (Mmm, delicious three year warranty). There weren't any scorch marks, bulging/bursting or popped capacitors, or any reason that I could see that would've been the cause of death. It just isn't POSTing anymore.

    In the meantime, though, ~Sci-FiWasabi has graciously let me spice my parts into his computer (mainly my processor, RAM, & videocard). I've also been playing a fair amount of Dragon Age: Origins. Dwarven noble, baby. I'm not terribly far into the game, in the area where you can get Sten and Leilana. I named my war mongrel Archimedes, and he's awesome. If I could, I'd probably form an army of war hounds, werewolves, dwarves, and lead it with my character & Gorim. <3

    Playing Dragon Age on Windows Vista seriously sucks, though. The loading time can range from five minutes to a half hour. (Usually I'll go make a snack, clean up, shower, etc.).

    I'm on a huge fairytale/fantasy kick, lately. I'm also on a giant dwarven kick, and would love some literature about them. I've always found them the best of the fantasy races. LotR is pretty good, but there was a serious lack of dwarves in there. I mean, sure, there was Gimli, but other than that...? We saw dead ones.

    It's December, and I'm still longing for more snow.

    • Much to my surprise, I received some stickers in the mail from deviantART, along with a nice little sticky from $Heidi reminding me than deviantART loves me. One of the stickers has found a nice home within the cover of my new sketchbook. When ready, I intend on posting everything drawn within that book. (So far, I just have RAM designs).

    Speaking of which, designing/drawing sci-fi electronics shouldn't be as hard as it seems. Serial Experiments Lain is a huge inspiration for this. ABe's work is masterful in that series, and his electronics very convincing (although the liquid in the ';Psych' processor still doesn't make sense, but is visually appealing).

    Art wise, I've been doing a lot of studies. I'm not very satisfied with my lack of variety in my art---hell, even the past two girls I've drawn are in extremely similar poses and white with pink hair.

    • Yesterday was Gwendolyn's first birthday. We had a nice party, and in the evening, our little family dressed as cats and visited her Grandma. Between the party and trick or treating, it seems that she's caught a cold.

    Art wise, I haven't been doing too terribly much. I purchased a 6" x 6" sketchbook solely for sketching faces/expressions while on the bus. Its an excellent exercise, as long as the bus isn't too crowded, and then I don't have proper elbow room. I haven't done too terribly much digitally, I'm still adjusting to Windows 7.

    With Windows 7, CS4 isn't working as it should. (Adobe, please release a patch. This is just laziness on your part). Painter XI is working as fine as usual, which wouldn't be a problem if I weren't on such a Photoshop kick.

    I've also recently began reading Neil Gaiman's Sandman. I'm currently on issue 33, 'A Game of You 2'.

    Tekken 6 also came out last week. ~Sci-FiWasabi and I have been playing a lot of that. Its always great when you have someone that you can play against in a fighting game for over and hour and not have to worry about someone getting butthurt that they aren't winning, or someone having to purposefully lose matches.

    I haven't actively played Tekken since Tekken 3. I tried Tekken Tag Tournament only to be harshly disappointed and burned away from the series. Luckily, Tekken 6 is a gem. They got rid of a few of my favorite characters (Jun Kazama, Kunimitsu, Tiger), but at least I still have Anna. Zafina is also a riot to play as. I want to love Lili, but I despise the way she plays. Leo is also the prettiest girl in the game.

    • Falling in love is certainly something of beauty!

    My day was extremely well spent up at Fall Con, here in Minnesota!I've never been to a comic con before, so it was insanely exciting. Really nerve wracking, too. I'm not used to really big crowds, so for at least the first hour I just kind of wandered aimlessly around while STARING at everything.



    A lot of the nervousness broke after this fantastic cosplayer of Hagrid entered the room. I caught him on his second passing and he was very well kind enough to let me have a picture with him, asking me to simply "stroke the spine there"!


    While not having much cash on me when going up, I did manage to get some swag. :D

    Bald Guy and Chad Spilker were amazing guys to talk to. I was still terrified of being around so many people at the time, so I was instantly sucked into looking at their stuff. FANTASTIC pinups. I had a really hard time deciding on what to buy. Mr. Spilker was even kind enough to throw in a couple of his mini sketchbooks when I bought his big one.

    Amy Lee Hadley (Madam Xanadu) was there. She was great to talk to, and was hosting a 'how to draw faces' panel later that day. (I didn't get to stay around that long).

    It was great.

    All in all, I'm exhausted, but so inspired! I definitely want to attend the next Fall Con (although I hear rumors of one being in April... <3 ).

    Time to work on some art, yeaaagghhh!!

    • Time for caramel outfits, falling leaves, jack-o-lanterns, costumes, ghosts, bats, candy corn, and glory~!

    Today has been overall a really good day. I got to spend it with my family and some really good friends. I've had a lot of well wishing, as well. When I was an idiot teenager, I always thought that nobody cared. Sometimes, I would love to time warp and olympic punch my teen-self in the face. Seriously.

    I finally delivered the in-law's computer after a good week and a half of working on it. (Bad HDD, etc.) That should be going better, now!

    Warehouse 13 is still amazing. I have one of those PSP things now, and the web browsing on that is clumsy at best. I'll probably see if I can get Opera or Chrome or something on that bad boy.

    • It seems that I've just about forgotten this place!

    A little over a week ago, I married ~Sci-FiWasabi. On the 16th, we finally made it official. Nothing but my name changed. I gave myself to him a long time ago.

    For my first gift to him, I purchased a sketch of Mandy from Dean Yeagle. If you don't know of this man, google him. He has an amazing animator's style. A lot of his expressions seem to hark to Gil Elvgren on a regular basis, and his poses are so dynamic.

    I've lately taken a strong love of Warehouse 13. I'm slowly but surely watching season one while drawing. I think I tore through 4 episodes alone while working on Promise.

    Time is passing quickly, and I'm trying to find myself artistically.

    • It's been a great couple of days!

    Thursday night a group of friends and I got to see the live Rifftrax presentation of ' Plan 9 From Outer Space'. That was excellent and hilarious.     • Last night, I got to see RiffTrax's live broadcast of Plan 9 From Outerspace




    It was awful on fairly epic levels, but not nearly as bad as Manos: Hands of Fate. Then again, I was able to see Plan 9 with awesome RiffTrax commentary & song. Although I did end up missing out a good chunk of the beginning show due to work and a long drive to the theatre.

    • Same thing, practically. Even if the emotion you're trying to pour out is pain or anger, you can still feel love that you can finally express yourself, even if your words fail.

    Also, MST3K's RiffTrax will be doing a live broadcast commentary on Plan 9 from Outer Space this Thursday at 7p. Check your local theaters to see if it will be shown!

    I'm also extremely excited for mail to come. Lot's of goodies~! :heart:

    I should be getting a delicious piece of art from :devsenji-makoto: (with surprises, he said!), and a few artbooks will be coming my way. Two Adam Hughes, and another from an artist that I haven't seen much of but I'm taking a chance.

    For DIGITALiS, I've been doing a ton of reference pictures. I walk home from work on a regular basis, so I have roughly an hour to think of concepts and so on. My reference pictures are mainly detail things--- signs, rust, chain link, water, sky, etc.

    Strangers in Paradise - Terry Moore
      This story is absolutely beautiful. I ate up... 90 issues in about three days? I just kept saying 'just one more issue...' The characters are extremely believable and Terry Moore's art is amazing. Its great to see some realistic looking people in comics. Brilliant character development!


    The Dark Tower Gunslinger Born/The Long Road/Treachery - Stephen King
      The art in Dark Tower is beautiful... but boring. Its more eye candy than anything, but I love the original book series, so its really great to see the universe expanded. Plus... Cuthbert is gorgeous, which doesn't hurt.


    Recent Watches:

    Torchwood
      I watched the first three episodes in one sitting. I'm still not sure what's going on exactly... but I'm hoping to?


    Mystery Science Theatre 3000
      A classic! I like to watch(listen) to these while sketching in the evenings. Hobgoblins, Eegah!, Mitchell, Zombie Nightmare... A lot.


    Kids in the Hall
      Another walk down memory lane. Much akin to MST3K, its something that I listen to while sketching.

    • Lately, I've been spending a lot of time staring at art over at cgSociety.org
    If you've never been there, go take a look. I initially went there searching for some of Skan Srisuwan's art, and was able to see quite a few more great artists.

    I've been absorbing media. I watched Coraline, and wasn't very impressed. That is, because I read the book. It followed the plot very loosely, and I didn't like how they portrayed Coraline/her family. It was gorgeous stop-motion, though!

    In preparation, I've been taking a lot of pictures. Just small details... powerlines, bolts, rust, broken concrete... I will practice, I will give it my all. No more mediocrity. I'll take my time. I'll do this for me.

    Also, before I completely forget, I need to mail out Tim's commission monies, and buy Loish her moonpies.

    In other news, I've been reading an awful lot of comics as of late.
    Including but not limited to: The Walking Dead & Fables.

    I had never read Fables before, and its truly grown on me. I read 50 issues of that within a few days, and will be tacking on quite a few more tonight. that is, unless I decide to play Stretch Panic or Devil Survivor.

    I really do love my coworkers who show me these wonderful things. :)

    • I just finished reading La Cosa Nostra, an online comic by =eiko-chan. [link] Go read it! Its pretty good, even if the action scenes get kind of shaky. It leads to a good style, though.
    The story has been very touching, although I'd love to see more of Saoirse's brother. He seems like a good ole Irish boy!

    I think I'll try some action scenes tonight for practice. Maybe even a page.

    Otherwise, I'm just anticipating some days off. I've still been doing a lot of home computer maintenance.

    At least tonight I get to be lazy with already having dinner brought to me...

    • Yesterday and today have been great days. Hobby Lobby had a sale on sketchbooks, so I was able to pick up a few with cream colored vellum paper. I love the texture of that paper---it makes drawing with graphite a dream! I even picked up a third sketchbook for Ricky today (along with a new video card so that he can play Spore on his own computer).

    I've been sketching a ton. I'm getting extremely happy with where I'm going. A friend of mine is also hooking me up with some nice composition/coloring/lining/inking tutorials. I can't wait! I've just been sponging things up as of late.

    The weather is strange today, though. It was very hot and humid with a breeze... then the rain came in, and right now its just dead and kind of yellow out. I'm hoping that none of those tornadoes are making their way here.

    I'm feeling really lethargic, but now I get to piece together Ricky's computer. Hopefully Spore will run on it fine... Then we can play together, or at least I can use my system while he plays on his. D:
