To explain anything about the film story-wise would spoil certain elements. I think the best way to go into the thing is to not know a single thing about it.

Start is a little slow, though it picks up and never stops half-way through. Only one guy left to the bathroom in a packed theater in Manhattan. That never happens. There were only a rare, few bits where I'm the CGI was evident. Though it wasn't distracting enough to ruin the movie and happens early on.

I try to restrict myself to reviewing games I've beaten all the way through but I'm going to go out on a limb to say the rest of Uncharted 2 is just as amazing as the several hours I already plugged into it. Visuals? Stunning. Voice-acting? Spot on. Narrative? Great. (A little, erm, predictablish. But what action-adventure isn't? Though I'm sure there's lots more in store when I rip towards the end.) This is Indiana Jones the game, and it's glorious. Every scene so far tries to squeeze as much awesome out as possible.

Maybe the most enjoyable single-player FPS experience I've had since Goldeneye and Half-Life 2. Sure, it's full of scripted events -- as usually is the case w/ the CoD series -- but they're all too good. Don't pass it up.

On the downside, it is shorter than your average FPS. When it's this jam-packed and spares you the drone of repetition of other FPS'ers, you must forgive it, especially when it gives you one of the biggest jaw-dropping 'wtf' sequences in a game and leaves you satisfied by its end.

I went to see it again for the second time in theaters, which is a rare occurrence for me. (I think last time around this happened it was for the ROTK.) Computer's last breath

Anyone know why a computer would take several minutes to start up (after several reboot attempts) and sometimes turns itself off out of the blue? At boot-up, seems like it can't find the primary HD. But if it's a succes after the n'th try, and I restart later on, it finds the HD right away. Almost as if something has 'warmed-up' and it detects w/ ease henceforth. Weird. If my HD was failing -- and it is an old computer so it's not out of the question -- why does it act in this manner where it works fine once I get it on. Maybe it's the motherboard or powersupply. Hmm.

I'll tell you what the problem is with people "expecting" things with M. Night Shyamalan movies (and that may be just it: the "expecting" part). The Sixth Sense was sooooo good that people go into the theatres -- and this is just my theory -- and miss the point of it all thinking it's going to be another Sixth Sense. Goers probably spend the whole time watching the film attempting to figure out the "twist". Now, there's nothing wrong with this .. up to a point. This is turning out be a heck of a time to be a comic book fan. X-Men, Spiderman, Batman, Sin City: all these great comic-to-movie adaptations that, well, are actually good. (Did I miss any? Must have!) Superman Returns is no exception. It's entertaining, action packed, funny, and pays its respect to Superman instead of trying to take it in a crazy new direction. (And, yes, they call it Superman "Returns" because he's back from a couple years of checking out what was up with his home planet. There's only a light introduction if you're never heard of him before -- but who doesn't know the story by now?)

We're going to be putting file restrictions in the pixel art gallery -- since file types such as JPG's and such are obvious no-no's in the genre because of lousy compression that in turn will rid of some of those annoying miscats-- so I'm asking around to see if we missed any pixel art file types that we want in the galleries. (We're blocking all file types that are not the ones we want, in other words.)

GIF and PNG are the two major ones, obviously.

I have to say that, so far from the coverage I've seen, I'm more interested in the offerings of Nintendo's Wii than anything else. It's not that I'm not interested in picking up a PS3 either (I still am) but, geez, the price on the thing just pushes me -- as well as countless other gamers -- away at least for the first year or so. By the time it hits the market, I wouldn't be shocked if you could get an XBox 360 and a Nintendo Wii for the price of a PS3. That's just scary.

Seriously though: kudos to Nintendo for trying something different and getting praise for it. It looks like a blast to use that remote.

This Week in Tech has turned one year old today! It's one of many podcasts that I listen to on a regular basis and I'm glad Leo [and friends] have made it this far.

If you have never heard of TWiT before, think of it as a rebirth of the old TechTV days in podcast form. They've been steadily adding different shows and forming a quasi-network atmopshere with the content they have. Kudos to Patrick Norton and DigitalLifeTV as well. (Norton is also a regular on the TWiT podcasts, of course.)

Needless to say, it touches my technological geeky side.

All my free time has been devoted to playing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion as of late. (Bad time to pick it up as I have professors throwing exams at me before Spring Break starts!) Granted, it's a heck of a game, but, to be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of having all the enemies level up with you as you level up yourself. It is frustrating knowing you can't overpower enemies since they will, well, match up with you. (Those who played FFTactics and endured random battles know what I'm talking about.) As the judges amassed to get to the getting (which was a feat in its own right, mind you!), it quickly became apparent that the top three would not be easily decided on. Everyone had their favorites going in so it took plenty of conversing to change some of our minds. In the end though, it turned out to be loads of fun and we were satisfied enough not to lose any sleep that night. And because it was so close, we took the liberty to add some "honorable mentions" to the mix in appreciation of the superb pieces we saw!

Let me just start off by saying that Serenity is a lot of fun to watch. (I'll be honest: when I viewed the trailer when it hit theatres and heard one or two of the jokes that were in it I thought to myself that, "Hey, this is going to be a corny sci-fi adventure -- I'm not buying a ticket for this thing!" but I'm peeved now that I didn't give it a chance! Shame! I also have not watched the "Firefly" series.)

In a lot of ways it's a poor-man's Star Wars. And I don't mean it has poor production values: the action sequences were top-notch (I'm sure it would have looked better on the big screen!). Well, there you have it. I was officially butt-plugged today. What my professors said was a most improbable event has equivocally happened.

And I would not nay-say against a delay [Rhyme? Oh, snaps!--Ed.] because it gives me more time to study in theory (since finals are postponed in the event of a transit strike).

Where the butt-plugging portion comes into play is here: most probably, if the strike continues tomorrow, it -- it being thy final -- will be moved next week from today. Which, hello! -- is my birthday, the 27th of December!
