I'm back from Manifest! It was an amazing convention and I met so many awesome people, thanks for everyone that stopped by our booth. Here are a few photos from the Con:

Manifest '09 stall with Carnival

and myself will be having our own Traders Table at the Melbourne Anime Festival this year! It's my first time ever having a stall so it should be really exciting.

If you're going to be around stop by our stall. We'll be selling printed shirts, original art and heaps of original jewelery and accessories. (I'll be making some Lolita-inspired stuff so if you'd like some cavity-inducing jewelery I'll be selling some! )
Closer to the date I'm going to have some preview images up of our stock but until then I figured I'd just get this info out there. We'll be trading all three days of the Con and we can't wait to see you there!

I apologise to everyone so much for my on-going absence and late replies to comments, notes, etc. etc. I have a day job which is supposed to be supporting my drawing but sadly it's really become my life leaving little time for much else. As some of you know I work in retail at a games shop where I stand up all day and by the time I get home I'm too tired to cook myself dinner let alone lifting a pencil and producing some art.
When I do get some free time I'm either catching up with friends or family and doing housework.

To be honest I'm finding the whole situation very distressing. I need money to pay rent and eat but when it leaves me time for little else I think I'd rather starve and be doing something I love.

your ideal wedding?

Since everyone's journals seem to me about Convention season and appearances *sad face* (Oh Con season always seems to fill me with a sense of melancholy, I'll get to be there one day you smexy comic conventions!) I figured why not a change of pace? Time for a crazy, random journal where I ask you all personal questions because I'm a nosy gimp like that and I also adore people's random ideas.
So, the question I pose to you all given my impending nuptials is... (when I say impending I mean a few years away but I have the ring and that counts! ) What is your ideal non-traditional wedding? I mean non-traditional as in, sky diving to the ceremony, getting married at the zoo; that sort of thing.
What sort of crazy things would you all like to do while getting hitched or things you've heard about?

Rowan and myself are still really thinking about what to do for our wedding. We want something non-traditional that really seems like 'us.'

Wheeee in case the description on my newest Deviation confused some people... I injured myself! Accidentally. It wasn't even my fault really since I'm still confused as to how it happened. I woke up one morning and discovered I had acute wry neck.

Despite my own amusing personal representation above I was unable to move from my bed, doctors were called, I missed quite a lot of work etc. etc. It's been a slow recovery and I'm still experiencing some pain and numbness and have to be careful not to exert myself too much with physical activities but I am finally able to pick up a pencil again!
Certainly an interesting way to start the New Year. I hope everyone else's has been awesomesauce!

I will be another year older this Sunday. 23 on the 23rd. I guess I haven't really achieved much this year in the grand scheme of things but as always I'm really pushing myself to improve my art. I can't think of what else to type here other than that I wish there were more than 24 hours in a day. I'm constantly wishing I had more time to do the things I want, mostly drawing projects.

My fiancÃ©e and I are flying inter-state to go and I'm really excited. I won't have a table or anything but I'll be hanging around with my portfolio and stuff.

I also have a question of my artist friends. How many of you are night owls? I've always bee someone who works well during the day but more and more I'm finding that I prefer drawing in the late afternoon into the evening and quite late. I'm finding it quite unusual for me.

I'm so excited and giddy right now. We haven't officially started wedding planning yet and we probably won't set a date for awhile because we won't be getting married until we can both afford it.

CAHP: Con Anti-Harassment Project

I got a lot of comments on my last journal entry, this is indeed a hot topic for a lot of people. I figure some of you would enjoy an update on the situation.
A lot of support has come about from this issue and the wonderful people at girlwonder.org have estabished the CAHP: Con Anti-Harassment Project.
The website is a great read and if you're up for it I urge those of you who feel strongly about this issue to join in on their letter-writing campaign, get your thoughts and ideas out there!

Sexual Harassment @ SD Comic Con

As an avid comic geek and woman I am very sad to be reading things like this:

Tonnes of reports of sexual harrassment directed at female Con-goers from their male counter parts. Here are some excerpts:

'Overheard at San Diego Comic-Con while I was having lunch on the balcony of the Convention Center on Sunday July 27: a bunch of guys looking at the digital photos on the camera of another, while he narrated: "These were the Ghostbusters girls. That one, I grabbed her ass, 'cause I wanted to see what her reaction was." This was only one example of several instances of harassment, stalking or assault that I saw at San Diego this time.'

'One of my friends was working at a con booth selling books. She was stalked by a man who came to her booth several times, pestering her to get together for a date that night. One of her co-workers chased him off the final time.'

So, according to published con policy, there is no tolerance for smoking, drawn weapons, personal pages or selling bootleg videos on the floor, and these rules are written down in black and white in the con booklet. There is not a word in the written rules about harassment or the like. I would like to see something like "Comic-Con has zero tolerance for harassment or violence against any of our attendees or exhibitors. Please report instances to a security guard or the Con Office in room XXX."'

I think the fact that there is no policy regarding harassment in the Comic Con handbook and not really anyone you can go and report such occurrences to is very disheartening.
One would also think that in this age where female fans and creators are in such an abundance that we would no longer be treated like eye-candy or singled out for abused based solely on our gender.
I have not been to a Comic Convention before but have been to many Fantasy, Sci-Fi and Anime Cons and have myself been the victim of many forms of harassment from the opposite sex. I can remember at one Con I was at last year I was doing sketch commissions at a booth when suddenly the guy I was drawing the picture for launched himself across the table and kissed me. I still to this day have no idea what instigated this and at the time felt shocked and uncomfortable. Thankfully Rowan (my partner) was standing behind me at the time so gave the guy a casual 'back off, what the hell do you think you're doing?' but if he hadn't have been there I don't know how I would have handled the situation. The bottom line is that female fans shouldn't feel the need to have big male protectors there to save them from acts of sexual harassment or any form of harassment for that matter.

So who's to blame, Comic Con for not having black and white rules against this sort of behaviour of the perpatrators instigating these acts? Either way I think both sides are to blame, even if Comic Con doesn't have specific rules about harassment it's not good enough that if such a thing occurs that the victim has no-one to report it to.
So needless to say this female geek is not impressed.

I've been drawing more and uploading more lately so everyone can expect this to keep happening. w00ts. After my last upload as well I've decided to make a tutorial for making speech bubbles for comics in Photoshop. I've noticed that there aren't too many amazing ones and usually you need Illustrator to do them.

Well I did it, I got myself another DeviantART subscription. I'm going to try and be more active here from now on too.
I'm still getting used to the way you can assemble art in your gallery, it seems that my scraps are really all over the place. @_@;
I need to spend quite a bit of time re-assembling everything so my gallery makes some sense. Anyone have any preferred categories when browsing art?

So my DeviantART subscription ran-out, but I'm not renewing it. DeviantART has gotten enough of my money over the years and I don't think they need any more.
I'm also not really taking advantage so much of the features so it seems like a waste for me to have one. The only thing I'll really miss in the thumbnail previews for the art on my watch-list.

For the past year DeviantART has no longer been a major part of my life, and to post my work here now seems more like a duty than something I enjoy doing. I prefer posting my work on forums and other places now.
Although there are all you lovely people who look through my gallery and comment on my work I still feel very disconnected from the community here.

Happy Halloween everyone!
I hope you all are having a great Halloween! Mine has been okay, goth dressed-up, took some photos, had some cute kids knocking at our door for candy. Good times. (We still have heaps of candy left over too!) My Halloween technically doesn't finished until Friday night, because my local goth club is having a Halloween night when I'll be dress-up again, and going out dancing with my sexyful .
Anyway, since it's Halloween, and I'm in Australia-land where sadly pumpkins are out of season, and all we can get are sad, grey, pathetic excuses for vegetables... I've decided to make-up for it by posting some great pumpkin carving efforts here in my journal!

I'm back from Manifest 2007! I've been dead for a week or so after I got back, because Rowan, and myself were very sick. (Flu + stomach bug. Not good... )

BIG EDIT
I WILL NO LONGER BE GOING TO ARMAGEDDON 2007 IN MELBOURNE.
It seems that the portfolio review / competition will no longer be happening, and that David Wohl from Top Cow isn't going because it's been delayed until next year.
Luckily I hadn't booked my flights yet. I am a little upset about this, since it's only a few weeks before the Con now, and I've been looking forward to this for months, but David himself told me that this was all short-notice. And I believe that things happen for a reason.
I just wanna say thanks to David for giving me the heads up. When I do finally get to meet him I know it will be worth it.
In the mean time I will continue my pitch to Image comics with Christian, and hopefully we will both have our title published by this time next year. (If not with Image, with someone else.)

Also, I've had a Myspace since the start of the year, because I generally think that Myspace is the cesspool of the Internet I've never updated it, until now. You can find me on Myspace here:

Seems like my last journal entry caused quite a stir. I feel that this is a wonderful thing, because it was fantastic to see so many people interested in talking about art theft, and sharing their opinions, knowledge, and stories. I adore intelligent discussion without useless name-calling or nastiness, and the journal was a fantastic example of a nice, long, mature discussion.
Thanks so much guys. My eyes have been widened by the discussion, and I hope others have been as well.

Anyway, onto something far more immature, and silly. Last Saturday there was a small zombie walk in our state, and of course I had to drag , , , and along for the zombie-fun.
There were about 40 to 50 people, which was fairly small but good for a fairly un-advertised a event in it's first year. Rowan didn't dress-up but he took some great photos of all of us which I will now share:

The group of us will be sharing our crazyness at Manifest 2007 [link] so those of you who are going can see us there. None of us will be having trader's tables this year, but no doubt we'll be hovering around in the drawing rooms, and other areas of the Convention. So come and say hi! shiney new desk + Manifest 2007

Hello wonderful people!
Lately I've been having trouble with my old, non-sloping desk. But last weekend my wonderful partner Rowan made a new desk for me!

I'm so happy with it. Rowan is so wonderful, I'm so undeserving!

As some of you know, Rowan and myself will be heading to Manifest again this year. [link]
Along with *carnival, *Vamore, *sugar-cat-candy and *kitfox-crimson, we were going to have a fan trader's table but the committee are being douches, and haven't even released any prices / info, and it's just over a month before the Convention.
Oh well. But anyone who wants to meet can see us hanging around the drawing room, and other such places. The cover for the Manifest programme booklets were drawn by me, so if you see me I'll totally sign the cover for you.

I'm slowly getting settled into my new comic artist job. That's why there haven't been many uploads from me lately. Any free time I do get I spend on commissions.

It's on the same weekend as Supanova. But from what I've heard Supanova sucks, and they charge artists way too much for their tables. So everyone has to go to Armageddon instead.

I'd really love to go, not too sure at this stage since I'm going to Manifest in September... One thing that would convince me is that if all my sexy Australian comic friends were going! (I'm looking at you chamba!)
But yes, it depends on financial stuffs. If I go this will be my first comic convention, and from what I've been told there will be portfolio reviews. (By then hopefully I'd be heavily into Christian's project, but a portfolio review would still kick ass.)

curse you April Fools

Curse you April Fools Day! I really hate April 1st, but I learned my lesson this year and stayed away from the internet / t.v. / radio so I couldn't get caught-out with an crazy April Fool's pranks. And it worked! (Rowan forgot it was April Fool's also, so I was safe.)

But now I can make a journal entry, and have people take my seriously. (Maybe!) For those of you who don't know, I've been contacted by Tim Seeley from Devil's Due Publishing with the opportunity to maybe do some pin-ups, and other stuff for Hack/Slash in the future. Right now he's helping me with my sequentials, with is an amazing opportunity, I feel so un-worthy!
I'm also working on a comic project for the amazing author, Chistian Read. So hopefully I'll be allowed to upload some of that work soon too!

Heya party people!
I'm back with another entry! (Yay, it's only been a week or so and not a month since the last update! )
For those of you still waiting on commissions, they are in progress! The last thing I want to do if forget about people in the lead up to my big projects. (Also, if you haven't heard from me in awhile, feel free to pester me about any outstanding work I owe you.)

Small Press Idol and stuff

Wow, has it been two months since my last entry? *slaps self*
I've just been amazingly busy! This year was my last year as Convenor of AI-Con [link] which was on the 10th and 11th of February. It was a fantastic, but amazingly stressful weekend.
I'm back at Art School tomorrow, which is exciting. Another exciting thing I've been up to is getting involved in Small Press Idol 2007.
For those of you who don't know what Small Press Idol is, it's basically 'American Idol,' but for comics. If you're interested is knowing more you'll find heaps of information here: [link]

I submitted a new project for round 1, and passed, suprisingly with flying colours. Although there were circumstances that lead me to go through 3 name changes of my project until one was finally decided on.

I feel really lucky to be involved in this competition. The judges are fantastic, and are so helpful, each with their professional backgrounds, and their constant willingness to give everyone a fair chance and helpful critisism.

Although I am getting involved in Small Press Idol and will also be back at Uni tomorrow, don't think that I'll start laying off my responsibilities. I'm back working on my current stack of commissions right now.

- I am highly opinionated and outspoken. A lot of the time I see this as a good thing, but other times I hate myself for it, and feel like the world's biggest bitch.

- I hate things touching the tips of my fingers. As a result I have really long fingernails.

Steve Irwin; dead

For those of you who don't know, I'm Australian. And Steve Irwin is dead, aged 44. Said to be from a stringray attack.
I really appreciated his animal rescues and his charity work, but to be honest, it seemed that everytime someone found out that I was Australian, they'd give me some lame Steve Irwin quote or ask me if I knew him. >_>;
I kinda saw his death happening, he did kinda provoke lots of dangerous animals.

But all that aside, rest in peace Steve. You were a true Aussie.

DeviantART not DeviantSPACE

I'm seeing an increasing number of people coming to DeviantART and being all like, 'hey! This is like mySPACE but cooler because people can comment and fav on how cool my art is when it really isn't mine!'
I'm sure I'm not the only one who has noticed people creating galleries here at DeviantART just to upload their favourite pictures that they've found through-out the internet. This is reasonably acceptable behaviour at mySPACE; because I don't think there are any such rules in place there that prohibits art-reuse. (As far as I know anyway. I've seen that many cases of blatant art stealage and artist impersonation at mySPACE that I would never join that sess-pool.)
Reasonable DeviantART users here may not mind people just uploading pictures that aren't theirs and getting comments and favs and basically milking the community for all it's worth; and that's fine. But think about this, the more people that do it the more new members will think it's 'acceptable' behaviour. And it's not.
Someone worked long and hard on any images that someone else is simply uploading for comments and affection.
The more this sort of behaviour continues, the more offensive the watermarks are that people have to put on their artworks to stop it from being stolen. Which is sad for the artist itself and the people who genuinely enjoy their work.

How can you stop this sort of behavior? Whenever you stumble across one of these 'DeviantSPACE' galleries, report the un-authorised re-use of artwork. Or note the said user and ask them nicely to remove the image/s and replace it with something that they themselves have produced, not find in a google search or whatever.
There's a new stamp in the bottom of my journal, saying 'DeviantART, not DeviantSPACE.' Feel free to use it and spread the message!
Don't comment on said stolen images saying 'ART STEALER!1!!' or 'EMO COMMENT WHORE!1!!!!1!' This might lead you to get banned for harrassment, and you're above that sort of behaviour anyway.
It's up to everyone to make a difference and stop this behaviour before it starts.

It just makes me sad to think that all of my favourite artists will have to put bigger copyright notices on their work to stop others from stealing it. *cry*

I SPRAINED MY NECK! Yay~
It's feeling better now, it happened on the weekend when some of use Anime Society people went up to Swansea for a night. We were on the beach and ~chibiboy was picking me up as a joke and pretending to throw me into the water, only he fell over and actually DID drop me into the water. @__@
I hit the sand pretty hard, thus, neck injury.

Finally going to another art meet at *carnival's house tomorrow! I haven't been invited to the last few, which makes me sad. I miss those guys sooo much, and I'd preffer to see everyone while I'm on holiday, instead of when I'm back at University and stressing my ass of more than usual.

Nothing much else to report.
Stilling loving living with Rowan, I went and stayed at my parent's house last night and being without Rowan for an entire night was so weird and lonely, we've basically been inseperable since we moved in together.
Added some new stamps to my journal.
I've been really disconnected from the internet community recently, all this hard work in the real world has taken up all my time. Now that I have a minute to rest I feel really zonked out, but I'll be back on my feet soon enough.
I was suprised to see that I'm nearly at my 70k hits, thanks so much everyone! I know I don't get time to thankyou for all your comments and favourites, but they're all greatly appreciated. To think you're taking time out of your own busy lives to tell me you like something of mine really means a lot to me. Love you guys.

On a side note: Sometimes I really feel a lot of the younger Deviants here misinterpret things I say, and the rules and really need to grow-up. DeviantART is here for a reason, it's a place to display art, not to put others down and break the rules by doing such or posting horribly, rule-breaking offensive images or photos or images you just found in google one day.
Anyone else get frustrated like that sometimes? I'm in such a weird mood today~

(This is basically the first Australian free site I've seen, all other offers were for US resident only.) So as you can tell, I'm excited and really want an ipod!

the new stamp

Some of you may have noticed the new stamp in my journal and it's my newest Deviation. I posted it after long consideration on the topic and what I could do to make a personal statement against thise sort of behaviour. (I've been thinking about this for nearly a year now.)
So I decided to make a DA stamp. It's a way of me making a personal statement and for others to join me if they so wish by posting the stamp in their journal or posting a link. There's also been some discussion in the comments of that Deviation which I am pleased about, I welcome discuss because I know people have had experiences and opinions different from my own.
Some people suggested that I may get some negtive feedback for finally bringing this issue out in the open and giving my opinion; but that's fine. I'm stading for something I believe in and I think it'd about time someone seriously addressed the issue of self mulalation. I understand it's a sensitive issue but everyone seems to refuse to talk about it.

So there we go. I also encourage healthy discussion again here if anyone so desires.

I got the job at The Faery Shop!
I go for a temporary dress fitting tomorrow and take my first faery class on Tuesday over Easter; teaching small crafts and telling stories to small children. (while dressed like a faery! My faery name is Glitter Dust, or 'Dusty' for short.)
