So LEGO turned me down. Again. No worries, though. I wasn't expecting to get the position. I know my Graphic Designer type skills aren't the ones I've honed the most. I am great at drawing by hand, but I'm not that good an illustrator. Characters and objects I can do very good, but composing a scene isn't something I've done much of. I am good at low-poly 3d modeling and I know lots about 3d animation.

Hopefully, I'm getting a 3d artist position locally, and won't have to move anywhere to get a job. I was recently interviewed for an opening in internet TV I'm hoping to get. It's the most interesting position I've applied for in Trondheim.

I'm selling off my Warhammer 40k Eldar army. I haven't played 40k for years, and they're just eating space. It's a big army, but I'm aiming to sell it for less than half its value.

Also, I can focus more on building LEGOs.
Damn this world and the next! Not that there's any use in it, they're doomed anyways.
I quest for work and I care for little children, many of whom might end up political adversaries, criminals or good things. Glass half empty at the moment, as I've no steady job. And I ought to have learned html, damnit, because it's necessary for a graphic designer to know in order to get work. Fine. I found these great tutorials, and I've been assured that spider monkeys can do html, if only you can make them sit still for a couple of hours. Yeah, they'd have to be conscious, sleeping or unconscious monkeys appear to be exceptions.

My brother inflicted Van Canto upon me. They're a german a capella metal band. They've got drums and mike effects, though. And they do covers. I got more respect for Apocalyptica after they released their own music instead of just being a gimmick metallica cover band. Cellos rock. A capella... not as much, but it was cool to hear Van Cantos Battery cover. I'll have to make up my mind about that later. Hear some more.

I once heard about this comic book called Donjon, or Dungeon. Then I went and bought the only one left in the one store that had it in Trondheim. It's a series of graphic novels, and I borrowed more at the library. Apparently, I bought the least interesting one, but now I know. Hooray for libraries and our socialist state. Yay!

Oh and Donjon is drawn by Lewis Trondheim, who's got these funny comic strips about an astronaut and a monkey. Yeah. I like his style. It's kinda like Sergio Aragones'. Ugly, but cute. And Lewis' style is funnier.

My Sporetime is abating slowly, and I'm being a better partner and father. Getting less sleep, but that's because I stay up to do my stuff.

I'm drawing monsters, but I need inspiration or they'll end up only squiggly bits of horn, metal and claws, and not in any cool, cthulhuish way.

Cthulhu f'thagn?
I've become a father, and spent half my holiday at the hospital, taking care of my woman and the child. She's all well now, and my son, Vilje, is a fine specimen of baby. I will proceed to educate the child about this world and all the fun things that do not have much to do with this world at all.

He's now over five weeks old, and he's started to babble. He's imitated laughter three times. He smiles when he is content, and to you who think they smile because they need to fart and that it isn't a smile, the way he draws his mouth when he's got gas is quite different from when he is content. So get your pus-dripping foodholes out of my face.

Other than that, I've read a couple of books, among them "The Last Wish" by Andrzej Sapkowski. His books about Geralt the Witcher are the inspiration for the game "the Witcher", and I thought it was good. Gritty modern european fantasy, drawing upon the deep traditions of eastern european folklore. Nice.
I recommend it muchly.

I've painted my post-gorkamorka orks. I wa supposed to put my Gorkamorka boyz together for a warhammer 40k ork army, but I only got to chopping them up for Grot parts and reassembling a couple of buggies. I've now built two Traks, one with a scorcher and one with Big Guns, and I'll need a big Trukk or two before I'm ready to battle with them. I've planned how to finish my Eldar army, as it is only half-painted, and half-assed at that. I started an Eldar army because I got a load of them cheap when I bought the warhammer second edition used from some guy. They're kinda cool, but mostly lame and rainbow gay. I don't think they've got their thing properly together. They need to shape up. I've got a good Eldar army, really, but I don't want it. So I'll assemble, paint and then hopefully sell it. What I really want besides my Ork army is a Tau army. The Imperial Guard are cool, but too close to the Orks, really. And third I might want to assemble a Tyranid force, not a big one, just big enough to replay some Starship Troopers scenes vs the Tau.

Anyhoo. I've also made a few sketches on the illustration style of my adventure board game. I find I often end up with a toony style because it appeals to me, but I am trying to do a style that is a bit more realistic, but then I don't get the amount of details I want. I may need to loosen up my realism altogether. I have drawn toony stuff for very long now. I can't just settle there, though. I need to evolve.

Add regular life to that, meeting friends, spending time with my woman, cleaning stuff, organising objects within my home... pft.

Sometimes I'd like to toss my belongings into a truck and drive them to the Free Store downtown. It's a place where you can give your things away for free. You can also take stuff from there for free, without donating stuff. It's a great concept.
But then I remember I need some of those things if I get visitors for dinner or they'd like something to drink from or we're playing games. But still, some of those things can be given away. Or trashed. I don't like trashing stuff, but stuff sometimes has to be trashed.

My things don't own me, I think, but they're kinda in the way.
And I'm making new things. That's what many of my things are for. And I own books. Pretty books, funny books, books of knowledge.

I've had a test ready version of Vigilante for a couple of months now. &#039uter trouble has hindered my ability to print them and make appointments to play, though.
And summer is coming. The outside season.

And the baby is coming soon. Less than 4 weeks to most probable date of birth now.
I expect to spend most of my time handling the baby, then. Until winter I'll only get to pick at my games once in a while. But I guess that's okay. I get to be a father now.

-sweat and tears. And they want you to pay them for what they've taken from you. Amazing, isn't it? The staggering amount of obvious corruption in the US ought to have incited a revolt long, long ago, damnit, if Sid Meyer ever made any correct assumptions about citizen happiness.

So, the US capitalists megacorporations are trying to gain the rights to all art produced in the US. Apparently, they're trying to do the same in Europe as well, but I don' expect the fucking capitalist swine to manage that in Europe, I expect France and Germany to be against it, based on the amount of important artists come out of those nations. Pft. Spain and Italy, as well. The UK has acted as the US lapdog over here lately, so I don't know about them.

Okay, okay. I'm breathing calmly now, but this is so irritating. I need to see if I find more info on this, but right now I just think people ought to know.

About capitalism: Sure, it's healthy to have some degree of a free market, to have some competition, but there ought to be a system of regulating the differences between rich and poor. We've got rich people in Norway, too, almost despite a socialist system.

Check this out:

Mind Your Business: You Will Lose All The Rights to Your Own Art
Mark Simon is mad as hell and, in this month's "Mind Your Business," he tells you why you should be too.

April 10, 2008
By Mark Simon

Mark Simon.

As you know, I usually handle the subjects in my articles with a sense of humor. That is not the case this month. I find nothing funny about the new Orphan Works legislation that is before Congress.

In fact, it PISSES ME OFF!

As an artist, you have to read this article or you could lose everything you've ever created!

An Orphaned Work is any creative work of art where the artist or copyright owner has released their copyright, whether on purpose, by passage of time, or by lack of proper registration. In the same way that an orphaned child loses the protection of his or her parents, your creative work can become an orphan for others to use without your permission.

If you don't like to read long articles, you will miss incredibly important information that will affect the rest of your career as an artist. You should at least skip to the end to find the link for a fantastic interview with the Illustrators' Partnership about how you are about to lose ownership of your own artwork.

Currently, you don't have to register your artwork to own the copyright. You own a copyright as soon as you create something. International law also supports this. Right now, registration allows you to sue for damages, in addition to fair value.

What makes me so MAD about this new legislation is that it legalizes THEFT! The only people who benefit from this are those who want to make use of our creative works without paying for them and large companies who will run the new private copyright registries.

These registries are companies that you would be forced to pay in order to register every single image, photo, sketch or creative work.

It is currently against international law to coerce people to register their work for copyright because there are so many inherent problems with it. But because big business can push through laws in the United States, our country is about to break with the rest of the world, again, and take your rights away.

With the tens of millions of photos and pieces of artwork created each year, the bounty for forcing everyone to pay a registration fee would be enormous. We lose our rights and our creations, and someone else makes money at our expense.

This includes every sketch, painting, photo, sculpture, drawing, video, song and every other type of creative endeavor. All of it is at risk!

If the Orphan Works legislation passes, you and I and all creatives will lose virtually all the rights to not only our future work but to everything we've created over the past 34 years, unless we register it with the new, untested and privately run (by the friends and cronies of the U.S. government) registries. Even then, there is no guarantee that someone wishing to steal your personal creations won't successfully call your work an orphan work, and then legally use it for free.

In short, if Congress passes this law, YOU WILL LOSE THE RIGHT TO MAKE MONEY FROM YOUR OWN CREATIONS!

Why is this allowed to happen? APATHY and MONEY.

Artists have apathy and corporations have money.

We need to be heard in order to protect our incomes, our creations and our careers. GET OFF YOUR ASS!

That means writing letters to our congressmen and representatives. That means voicing your opinion about how we need copyright protection, as we've had since 1976, that protects everything we create from th...

Nicety nice. I'll show the results later, when I'm sure I've got good pictures of them. Or maybe I'll just scan them.
Ah. I feel good now.

I'll put more stuff here, but I see I haven't really been too discriminating about what I put here. 1. Do you snore?
Usually when I've got a cold.
What, I can't be both?

3. What’s your worst fear?
Hm. Why would I tell everyone that? I can say this much: it's not dying.

4. As a kid, were you a lego maniac?
I sure am... was.. am.

5. What do you think of “reality” tv?
Tv is real? *gasp*

6. Do you chew on your straws?
Contrary to popular belief, I am NOT a horse.

7. Were you a cute baby?
There are remarkably few pictures of me as a baby, so I'll have to guess..
Well, I guess people were too awestruck by my beauty to remember their cameras.
Yeah, that's it.

8. Is the single life for you?
Only if it involves more regular sex than being in a relationship.
9. What colour is your keyboard?
Grey. Black. Which one?

10. Do your sing in the shower?
If I'm happy.

11. Have you ever sky-dived before?
That depends on where the sky starts.

12. Any secret talents?
How would /I/ know?
Or so it used to be. I've gotten to the "in the good old days, everything was better" stage, apparently. The tv shows, per example. What we should have had when I was a kid was japanese toons instead of.. uh. Hm. Well, at the time, thundercats, He-man and transformers was cool. Even Jayce and the plant-things from outer space or whatitwascalled.

I'm gonna play an rpg again this sunday! Yay!
Gaming's too rare these days. I'm gamesmastering again, and I've decided to go with the Fireborn system, as there will be some combat, and fireborn combat is fairly dramatic. I've made the basics for an alternative magic system for fireborn as well, that allows for spontaneous magic, but it will be rather deadly if you fail to cast the spells properly. So learned and practiced sequences, or spells, will be safer to use.

The scenario I've made explores the relationship between humans and their gods.
I'm not going to explain more, as some of my players may read this.
This is the first scenario to be played in the campaign setting I've been developing together with some friends of mine. it's getting to be rather detailed and includes five civilisations, all layered together in an ecosystem that seems to work out fine.
In theory. I'm starting in one of the less explored ends of our world, and a bit earlier than "modern" time in our campaign world's history.
We're calling it "the Emerald Sea" because of the vast rainforest covering most of the known world. Airships plow the treetops of these extremely tall trees, and huge creatures lurk beneath that surface. Along ancient roads invisible from the air the colourful, masked nomads pull their carts from mountain Sito to outskirt village, the trade routes divided between their clans. Between the roots of the deeper forest, the beastfolk gibber and snatch, unknowing about the human peoples toiling around them.
In the high mountains at the end of the world, the wyrm raiders dwell, their people carving terraces of dirt in the mountainside, most of their foods used to support their raiders, who frequently attack the villages, flying ships and Sito of the High People.
In their many-towered cities, known as Sito, the High People receive materials and slaves from the rest of the world, they decorate their villas with treasures from ruined temples, and squabble amongst themselves for political power.
In the depths of the earth, lives a race more ancient than the emerald sea itself. Their magical power is said to rival the gods' powers. Gods who are said to have left this world. All but one. The golden faced sun god of the high people. The One of a thousand hands. The One who leads the chosen to the afterlife, away from the Soul eaters.

And I am really looking forward to playtesting the setting some.
Additionally, there's gonna be some cyberpunk roleplaying as well, sometime soon.
This is also to develop another campaign setting. Exciting stuff, but when am I gonna get the time, really? pft.

I've found out that it is time to bring out the pencil again, and let the ballpen rest a bit.
The Vigilante game just falls behind as I am getting more and more impatient about making and playtesting The Quest. As The Quest depends on playtesting of Vigilante, this is a bit bad. I've been drawing stuff, but not much that I am comfortable with using for either game. I've even started doubting the art direction I've taken for Vigilante at this point. Maybe I should go even toonier.

I do have some characters I made for The Quest, but as I haven't decided on the final art style for that either, I'll leave them unscanned for now.
Some years ago we were comparable to a fundamentalist country, in that our church and state is one and we were ruled by a priest. Now the workers are back in power. Or so it appears. I am not sure about our government yet, but they seem to be doing okay. Better than the Christian Hypocrite Party anyways.
Attending is $5000 per semester, and you'll learn to see and communicate with angels.
Nothing less than that. I want to see the contract where it says they guarantee results.
Religion's great, isn't it? Whereas in science you may not grasp a new concept at once, but given time to study the basics, then advancing towards the new concept, you'll logically be able to understand it, or even dispute it, which, I think, is even better.
Being able to logically dispute an established concept would usually lead to improvement. The inability to accept this started the witch hunt, apparently.

Pollen must be the white antibodies of mother nature, and we're a disease. Or at least I am. But I blame it on humanity.

Vigilante is soon ready for testing. I realised it is a far simpler game than the Quest, as the quest will have more features than Vigilante, and be more focused on gear than maneuvers, which will be the main focus of Vigilante.

I've made three gangs for Vigilantes to fight now, but need to draw specific thug pictures for them, and backgrounds for the battle scenes, the Streets.
Also, the Crimelord needs his cards.
I really want a vacation, but there'll be none of that until we're done with this game at work. Vigilante is my own project, you know. Spare time stuff.

The basic rules for The Quest are just about ready for testing.
I just need to spedify some aspects of the game first.
Then I need to make the card texts, and enough cards to test the fun factor.
Also, my assumptions of how many cards there should be of each type needs to be tested.

I need to draw more monsters and locations, as I've already got a collection of heroes. I've drawn some weapons, and need to make some other items as well.
I'm keen on testing the game soon, but I know it will take some time before I can do this. I'm really looking forward to this game. Masteroid is a strategy game that is over quick, and can become repetitive, but usually, you quickly see who is going to be the winner. In a fast-paced game, elimination of players is all right, but I generally prefer games where everybody plays until the end.

In the Quest, no player gets left out. The Overlord is always the antagonist, and the Heroes must cooperate or lose. There is no reward for the one hero, but for the group as one, as in some of the LOTR boardgames.

I am still uncertain of what style to do for the Quest artwork.
It could be fun to do it in a kiddie anime style, as in some of the Zelda games, but then I also want to promote it as a serious game, and maybe go for a gritty cthulhu-ish feeling. But then I have little experience in drawing tentacled horrors. I'll have to give it a shot. Perhaps spilling lots of ink and throwing white paint at it would work?
Hey, presto!

The stuff I have doen up until now looks like half-serious stuff, but not really good for anything but a placeholder, a little more natural than the Vigilante Pugilist sketches I've uploaded.

It seems my drawing momentum has been used up for the moment.
At least when it comes to vigilante and the Qeuest.
I've learned that I need to get other ideas out of my system as well, even if I am trying ot concentrate on one theme. Just sketching them is usually enough.
When I ignore these things and just keep them in the back of my mind, they clutter and clog the system and I don't get anything good past them.
Tried drawing an archer last night. Didn't go too well. Drew sketches for some jacket marks or whatchacallem. Went all right. But I'd rather have drawn the archer well.

I've been obsessively playing final fantasy tactics advance lately.
It's one of the best games in the final fantasy series. Being able to change jobs is cool, and in a tactics game it is essential. An advantager over other FF job systems in Tactics: You can use abilities from former jobs when you enter a new job. Why isn't FFIII like that, huh? Huh? You tell me, Square!

I've been planning to do something I haven't done in a satisfactory manner in about fifteen years: Draw landscapes. I need to draw landscapes for the Quest and Vigilante. I never draw landscapes. Almost never. Buildings, sure, but usually one at a time.
sure, I've drawn landscapes while looking at them, but that isn't the same.
I guess I can make it if I make up some cool feature in a building, rock formation or something and then focus on that and just fill in the blanks around that. Yeah.
I'll give it a shot.

I'm planning a costume for this laiv I'm going to in a few months.
It's a cross between a Raggedy Al doll and a Final Fantasy black mage, I think.
Some of it will be in preparation for another role as a jester in red, "the Red Riddler".
Oh, and I'm going to make the biggest sword used in a laiv ever. In true Final Fantasy tradition. Compensating for something? Oh no, It's just Japanese, meaning I have a troubled past or something heavy on my mind as well as my shoulders. Really.

What's your favourite monster?
Mine must be fish people or owlbears. I practically hate centaurs, hobbits and dwarves, loathe griphins and manticores, but kinda like sphinxes and owlbears.
What can I say, it's complicated. Mainly, I don't like stupid animal mixes that don't look like one animal, but just a taxidermy accident. Hobbits and dwarves are just silly.
"Kick the baby!" Aim for the hobbit instead.

As human sources of vitamin D is mainly produced in their own skin, people in the north, like Norway, are globally screwed. Sure, there's D in fish like Salmon, trout and tuna, but 15 minutes full body exposure to the sun is a far better source.

Playtested Masteroid yesterday with four players.
Took three hours. Spotted some flaws in one of the clans,
but the system seems to be alright.

I'm still working on the Quest, making character sketches and concepts.
I'm into the hero abilities as well, but I think it's time to organize my notes digitally, as it is too large a project for the notebook now. As it should be. Shows good progress.
I should make a progress plan. Yup.

Looking forward to drawing the minions I've named too. It's fun and very motivating working on several pieces that go together under the same project, towards completing a bigger goal. Ah. I want to play my game.

Guns. Why is it that people who claim video games are the source of violence get taken seriously by conservative americans? Is it because conservativism means "afflicted by technophobia and logical fallacy?" I would believe the presence of guns would be the first reason that people get shot in today's USA. Without guns, someone might still be hurt, but probably rather with a knife or by bludgeoning or by hand.
Which would mean that a smaller amount of people would get hurt.
Also, I believe the treshold of attacking someone barehanded or with a knife is higher than pointing a gun at someone and shooting. Especially when shooting at several people. True, we have knife killings here in Norway, and sure, there are stories of someone who shot themselves and their family once in a decade, or someone, usually a guy, holed up in his house (in the country) shooting at their neighbours, but not really hitting anyone. But that's rare. And people almost never actually get shot.
Now, is it the gun that allows them to do this? Yes.
How many times in my lifetime has it happened that someone in Norway has knifed their whole family and themselves? Never. At least not from what has been published in the media. I might be rambling here, but still, isn't it logical?
Guns make killing easy, not games.

While working with Vigilante Pugilist I've seen how the system can be used with several other game concepts. One of them is a board game with a medevial fantasy roleplaying game theme. The working title is the Quest, and the players will be travelling across a map or board where you add new lands as you explore.
There are two sides. One player controls all the monsters, and tries to hinder the hero team from reaching their objectives. The players have to complete a list of objectives to reveal the main objective, which they must defeat to win the game.
The Overlord or monster master or plot master or whateverlord must deprive the heroes of all their Fate points to win the game. At his disposal are dangerous monsters and cataclysmic events, like earthquakes, volcano eruptions and suchlike disasters. A rain of slugs, perhaps. Probably more apocalyptic events.

The lands, spells and powers of this world will be seen as infused with various elements, some stronger in certain areas than others. This affects spells, what monsters to expect and what threats to take seriously from the Overlord.
These elements will probably be known as Fire, Lightning, Ice, Nature and Death.
You may argue that death is part of nature, but the element of death represents the unnatural manipulation of unholy forces associated with necromancy and spirits of the dead.

Why make this game?
Because

I had dreams of telekinetic power again. I kept lifting jugs of water with the power of my mind. I was unable to lift them if I pushed hard, with aggression. But if I merely thought "up" or imagined any other kind of flight path for the object I was lifting, it would hover the way I wished. These telekinetically themed dreams have been recurring for years, ever since my childhood. I think they evolved from flying dreams, which evolved from falling dreams. I spent my childhood in the crowns of huge trees, and falling was very undesirable. So when I fell, in dreams, I was first afraid, and as in the dreams where I was chased, I learned to wake up before something bad happened. Before I hit the ground.

After having a series of nights falling, I realised this was a dream, maybe out of recognition. And I decided I wouldn't be hurt for real if I fell all the way from this tall cliff and onto the hard earth floor underneath. I decided to see what happened. I thought all these things in mid-air of course. Then I hit the ground. I remember thinking: "Now I am dead. I can't move." But I could still see, and turn my eyes. and I heard people coming over, saying, "Oh, did you see him fall? Is he dead?" And I replied: "Yes I am dead."

After this I tried not landing instead, making me fly. I mentioned transferring the waking up technique from my "being chased by monsters" dreams. This time I transferred the flying technique from falling dreams into monster dreams. I could fly away from the monsters... most of the time. It gave me an advantage. I had nightmares of great magnitude far into my teens. I got rid of them by taking control of my dreams, gradually, until they were only challenges, and fewer than one dream a year now leaves me with my heart racing in the middle of the night.

I don't know when I developed the ability to use Telekinesis in my dreams, but I did it early. I learned controlling dream flight around 5-7 years of age, so maybe TK two or three years later. I don't really know. I've done it for very long, and I'm sure many others do as well, to some degree. Some times I've been able to manifest energy by proxy, never making lightning or fire erupt from my hands, but rather making someone be hit by lightning from the sky. Always at dramatic climaxes, of course.

Very often, nobody notices my telekinetic manipulation of objects. Either they deny it, like one dream where I lift my brother 3 meters (about 9 ft) into the air, and he still denies my telekinetic power, or they don't understand what is happening.
In tonight's dream my father's father (Farfar) was surprised by how the jugs of water would lift themselves off the table, and he told me to quit playing pranks like that on old people. He was angry, and didn't want to know how it worked. It seemed he and everone else involved decided it was done with wires somehow, and wanted me to stop.

I'd so love to know telekinesis in real life. I know the sensation I get at the back of my neck and lower forehead when I use it in my dreams, as if it is a real sensation I could reproduce. When I fly, I feel a sensation down my spine, and in the same place in my head, it's like a snake of cool wool up behind my ears and through my temples to the third eye spot in my forehead.

If memories are real, I know telekinesis and how to use it under the right circumstances. If memories are not real, I never wrote this or any of t he other journals, because even though I remember it, this isn't real. I think we all live in the past, and there is no present. My conscious mind is observing my actions, pretending I am making decisions.

Some biochemists and physics scientists believe that you don't decide to do anything. Before you make the decision, you've already acted upon the situation. If you're deciding upon kicking a dead horse or emptying the glass, you may kick the dead horse before the signal to kick it appears in your brain. The pattern that appears in your brain every time you kick something appears after you've kicked. Not before. Where is the decision made? When there is no signal before the action? No signal that travels from the brain, down the neck into the arm and finally the fingers closing around the glass? But possibly the other way around?

I suppose they could have been looking in the wrong places. But they have been and they are looking in quite a lot of places for quite some time. Maybe their equipment isn''t sophisticated enough yet. I want to know. "Where are the decisions made?" Whether we have free will or not isn't so important, because we'll still be appearing to make decisions. That's how we work. It doesn't really make a difference, does it?

Final Fantasy is eating my time. And it is all nice.
I'm cursing Goldor the greedy asshat for breaking the fire crystal when the ninja job could be just within my grasp. Damn him! Damn him to tarnation! Uh.. wherever that is. The place where they produce tardiness, I suppose. In a can. And if you fill it with water after you've emptied it of tardiness, it becomes refilled. This time, however, it is full of re-tardiness. Enjoy.

Dark knights are the best. Soul-devouring power for chibi characters... Hm. Strange.
The nest Final Fantasy should be a big long first person RPG based on FF7. Or *retch* an MMO based on FF7. It's got a very good setting for it. Magic and science go together real well there. or bad, but in a good way. You know. Don't you? You do, don't you? Well, do ya, punk? Anyway, magic and motorcycles.

The real challenge with persistent MMOs now is Change. Players should be able to shape the world while playing. "What, someone destroyed King Apenuts castle on the Poofling server? Really? On ours its the most popular place around. We use Kingpoo for currency. So, how do you like them moon-catapult transports? You don't have them? Oh, yeah, you can go to the moon, but you need a crazy assortment of buffs and equips to get there. Oh, and something to actually propel you there, of course."

But I live in Dreamland, and our hardware is incompatible with yours, so... maybe in a few decades. maybe. And we'll all be riding flying cars. Yeah right. And eat pills for breakfast instead of real food. Um. wait. I think the pill bit is true for some people already. Okay, bad example. But, hey, flying cars, huh? Nuh-uh.

Back from San Francisco.
Their winter is like our summer. It was nice.
Our hotel was on the edge of the SF slum area, apparently, but the hotel didn't seem to suffer from that. Meaning it still wasn't great, but the service was good, and it was clean. Like many other places in San Francisco, it had lots upon lots of fake features, like painted-on doorframes and windowsills.

The Game Developer's Conference was an interesting place.
The most interesting part of the expo was the independent game developers area, showcasing the nominees for the independent games awards. Check out Samorost 2, it's a puzzle adventure game, and a beautiful one at that. I've just been through the first two "pictures" of the story, but I'm gonna play it some from here as well.

Do check out the demo of Roboblitz as well, it's an action 3d person game, with lots of physics used, both in animation and in weapons/utilities. Good graphics, as well.

Something else entirely: Did you know that Monthy Python's Flying Circus was the highest rated tv-show in Japan in 1976, and it was retitled The Gay Boys Dragon Hour?
Crazy Japanese...

Oh, one of Ronin's friends in SF, Eliza, took us to a Goth club.

Used a random story generator and it came up with a pretty interesting result:

"The story is about a traveler who must work with an exorcist. It takes place on an ancient planet. The story begins with someone getting a new job, climaxes with the discovery of a long-lost relative, and ends with a tragedy. The fallout from World War I plays a major role in this story."

I'd really like to read that story, or see it as a movie. But then I'd have to write it myself. The climax with the discovery of a long-lost relative is difficult for me to imagine. I suppose it is because I can't think of any such climax that I've seen anywhere. Hm. if it was a lost sibling or suchlike I suppose it could be climatic, but then that'd have to be tied in with the main plotline. Fun, this.

Soon Vigilante Pugilist can be tested properly.
When VP is done, I'll keep working on Invasion, as I do now, but also start working on a more classic fantasy rpg-ish board/card game with many of the same rules as Vigilante. I've got many many ideas for this. I think it'll be good.

Really looking forward to the Game Developers Conference. I'll probably not have access to more than the expo and maybe some workshops, but I'm happy anyway. Actually I thought I'd never go to the US, but all it takes is a pass to GDC.
I'm in the industry and a game junkie to boot, so no surprises, really.

Looking forward to Spore.
Watch the half-hour presentation by will wright on youtube. It's amazing.
Not as in Ithaqua or Tsathogghua or those old ones, but as in the place I used to live before now.
Frustration is not having time or space to draw more. I've got some thumbnail sketches for Vigilante Pugilist I'd like to draw properly, but when? And where? My girlfriend and I managed to finish off our opponents in Age Of Wonders 2 before she left to visit her sister this week. I made a small map with 8 opponents and lots of goodies. I love turn-based strategy games, and AoW2 is the best one I've played. As Turn-based games is a dead genre now I suppose I'll have to make a lot of backups of AOW2 so I don't ever lose it. Grr. I want another turnbased strategy game with magic and stuff.

Been reading Erfworld, a webcomic. It's drawn in a very cute style, and the setting is inside a turn-based strategy wargame.

I've been looking for a board game I saw at a local game store.
It was called Welcome to Wizardville or Wizardsville or something like that, unless the real title was printed in small print at the bottom of the upper side. It was illustrated by John Kovalic (Dork Tower, Munchkin and other Steve Jackson games). The players were to play the parts of wizards who make their own lair or dungeon, and send adventurers to mess up the other's dungeons. The goal was to kill off seven of the other wizards' adventurers. Looks like fun, resembles Magic; the gardening. Yes, the gardening. Played with Magic, and the wizards each have their garden, which they expand with swamps, patches of forest and so on, and they have to explain what happens when they play a card and why, or they can't play that or do that.
"My gardener (taps Force of Nature) misunderstood where the boundaries of my garden were, and invades upon your garden with a giant lawnmower golem."
"Oh, alright, I see. He happens to run into my wall of thorns."

Anyways.
I didn't buy Welcome to Wizardsville at first, as I wanted to read a bit about it on boardgamegeek.com first, if there were any reviews. But no, there were no reviews. And two days later, both the boxes I'd seen were gone. Bugger.
And Steve Jackson games haven't updated their pages since November last year, the limp, wrinkly wieners.

Maybe someone else made the game, john kovalic didn't illustrate it and it's got no such thing as wizard or ville or welcome in its actual name? If so, it'd explain why I can't find it anywhere. (-Damn Google.)

Sometimes I get astounded by some peoples desire to make people stupid.
You have creationists, who, in resistance against the overwhelming reality of physical science, fiercely persist in the belief of a physical heaven on earth and mainly that the world came to be as described in the bible. Evolution is wrong, they say, and it cannot be proven to be right, because nothing ever evolves into something new, an organism may either lose an attribute or add more of an already existing attribute.
Meaning, getting more legs is not evolution, and a human covered in feathers is just funny hair. They also say that changes don't happen in millions of years, but in short leaps. Further on, they say that the dinosaurs lived in the same age as mankind, but were killed in the flood when Noah was told to build a big-ass boat.
The tenacity of the religiously retarded will be the downfall of our civilization and possibly mankind.

That great evolution may happen in short leaps I can agree to. The rest is a load of putrescent backwards-minded religious fanatism. Possibly caused by fear of our modern time, and concepts unfathomable unless you are correctly informed. By learning how to observe the world and explain what you see and experience.
There is no God to fear. Fear-mongering is what's made the USA to be what it is today. Hooray to that.

Today I learned that there's a mathematician who wants to convince you that human history only goes back to 800 AD. Everything before that is either fictional or happened in the middle ages. There is no dark ages, he says. Renaissance people built Egypt and every other wonder around the world. Monks wrote the history books, and it is all a christian plot.
WTF?!
And he's basing it mostly on statistics. He is selling books on his revised history on amazon and other places. Fumenko, is his name, check it out an choke in futile anger, you too. Basing it on statistics?! You would be better off assembling ancient history based on breakfast cereal packaging from the last ten years. Statistics are never correct. Mathematics always get the correct results, if you compute correctly, but these results are based on no more information than you are feeding them. History is such a complex subject, that calculating how much is correct and not is more stupid than sticking your head up a diving octopuss' mouth and expect to be breathing in there. What? you can?
All I can say is "What about other sources? The christian monks falsified middle-eastern books? East Asian books? What? Renaissance people built the pyramids? The ancient greek temples, the oldest parts of constantinople, palaces and ruins of rome? And everybody thought they were ancient right away, but actually, they were new? Get a grip! What kind of anarchist nihilist movement are these people a part of?"

I'm no conspiracy theorist, I just believe in the inherent ignorance and stupidity in Humanity, and I hope some of the less mind-murderous can convince these *sound of twisting, smoldering iron* people that they are quite insane to serve people runny, infectuous crap packed inside the covers of a book.

Interesting ideas, as fiction. Hey, L. Ron Hubbard managed to make thousands believe his fiction to be real. Earned loads of money, got to use a lot of people before he died.
Interesting idea.

Moo moo and Baa baa.
Did you know the Yip yip martians actually made mankind out of the spare parts from cockroaches? Actually, these roaches were supposed to be spiders, but the Yipyips wanted to make more of the parts they got, so they made some roaches and lots of humans. They came back once in a while to make changes, and every time they added a new culture as well. Last thing they added was yoga vegans. they're running out of ideas, so they came up with a variety of rampant mercenary; creationists and historical revisionists.
Can you believe that? Got a spaceship? I want off this planet if the majority starts thinking like the above mentioned people.

I made a three more sketches yesterday, and I'm rather pleased with myself.
I'll milk this newfound way of drawing as long as it lasts. Ohyeah.
One of my yesterday sketches were a plumber with a cap, mallet and carpenter pants (Snekkerbukse, for pokker, sainntja) - meaning the kind of pants that has straps that go over the shoulders. It's supposed to be a pun on a popular video game character, but it isn't very obvious. My plumber is a girl, unlike the original.

I'll scan and upload these soon, but I'm on the move, so I'll be putting all my belongings into little cardboard boxes the next few days, and oh, the next week as well.

I love the winter.
When it really is winter, that is. Like now.
The snow fell during the night, covering the city in a thin blanket of white.
Cool air soothes me as I step outside, and I feel the bacteria inhabiting my skin dying from the temperature drop. In all this clean white, I smell almost nothing, no exhaust, rotting vegetable carcasses, no reeking trashcans. I imagine bugs freezing in midwalk as the snow falls, some curling up and simply cease functioning, possibly reawakening.
But today it is a joyous day, for the world does not stink, my head is cold, and the bugs do not walk.

I discovered Lojban yesterday. Discovered, in the terms the word is used about columbus. It was already there, but I hadn't seen it before, so I discovered it. Lojban is a pidgin language. I find it interesting, because it is constructed out of logical principles and what words most people in the world use to describe things. Naturally, a good part of the words are of a chinese influence. There's a good comeback to any statement including "most people", like "Most people watch tv every day." -Most people live in China. Anyhoo, I digress. One of the principles of this language is that no two meanings share the same word. e.g. In english, "great" can mean big, and good. Words like that can create misunderstandings. So in Lojban, there's no such thing. You can joke, lie and speak in metaphores, as I understand it, but never say anything that can be misunderstood literally.

My Beat-emup boardgame is coming along nicely. Working title; Vigilante Pugilist.
Invasion still isn't ready to play, and I believe Vigilante Pugilist is going to be first played. It is a game inspired by Beat'em ups like final fight, bruce lee, brawl brothers and such old games. Those mentioned were for super nintendo, but I guess some of them could have been ported to amiga or pc, though I doubt it.

I've had some frustrations with drawing lately, but they dissolved yesterday, as I managed to draw some characters for Vigilante Pugilist. I used a ball pen, and I really feel that's what I like drawing with the most. So. I'll keep doing that. The felt tip pens and other suchlike are too flimsy and runny for my hand. I'll go get a bunch of black ones.

A new year? ..for me? Nice!

I had a great idea for a card/board game this week. Or last week, whatever.
-A beat'em up game. It'll be nicely done, as I've some mechanics I've never seen in a board game before, so I'm looking forward to testing it sometime in the future.
Now, the work I have left is fleshing out cards, as the mechanics are in place.
Oh, and artwork, of course. Rudimentary sketches of people fighting in 80's style gang wear.

So I suppose it'll be ready for testing in september.
My Invasion game needs fleshing out as well, and I've been struggling with giving it a viable variation in cards against the number of different cards making a deck.

Both games are basically card games with board elements and dice.
I'd really like to win the lottery (LOTTO) so I'd have the money to publish one of my games.
I've been playing and reworking one game for years, and had a handful of other games that only became test games and didn't get any more work. It's what I like to work with.

It was an underground world of excavated caves, deep chasms, and endless mall-like interiors. Vampires had taken control in this world, and regular humans were a minority that was hunted as a delicacy and preferred pet.
We managed to stay safe for some time due to not acting like slaves. We did have to fight a lot to get back, but as we were mystics and I (as I often do) had telekinetic powers, we managed to get back... or get out of there, anyway.
Dreamt a series of slightly coherent dream sequences last night.
I started off once again in Romsdalen, or Møre, if you will. No specified place in that region. I was traveling to some place to work. Physical work, I think. There was a long fjord and an asphalt road 1 and a half lane broad. Pine trees everywhere. I suppose it was spring, as it was kinda wet, and the trees were a brilliant green. It was in the evening. The sun had already sunk behind the mountains, and the sky got progressively darker as I walked along this road. I was wearing white shorts, a small jacket and a tshirt, even though I don't wear Tshirts. Oh, and shoes. I imagine they were rubber boots for some reason.
A bus came by an picked me up. This may have been the first vehicle to pass by, but I am uncertain. I felt som sort of urgency to get away from the road.
This bus was going to germany, and was full of norwegian tourists. They were all between 50 and 70 years old, and all very happy.
We stopped at a gas station with an unusually roomy interior. Other cars would stop here, and sometimes, drunk youths with old, noisy, ugly cars would be asses around and inside the station. My brother K came from somewhere in that shop. I think he'd been looking for me. We were waiting for something or someone there.
At some point later, I was in Germany with the older tourists. There was a party, a nachspiel, though I don't remember going to any pubs, clubs or anything like that in advance. An ex-girfriend arrived at the party, and we talked about our past. However, our recollection of our common past was vastly different, and I thought she probably was someone else. I did not tell her this, as she'd probably be offended.

Nicked this name list thingy from SmallChange's journal, who in turn nicked it from someone else. Some of these name formulas are silly and useless, but it's kinda fun nonetheless. More fun than wiping your eyeballs with rough toiletpaper, anyway.
I was sitting on the balcony of that house, and there were mice coming out of the door, from the kitchen. I remember going down to the water as the sunlit sky darkened and rainclouds covered the sky. There were huge tank boats there. Why? Do you have to ask why? Then you're either a fangirl, or you're gay.
I prefer being asked why by gay people, because I understand their angle.
I despise Yaoi for taking characters out of concept, and making them something they are not. It is a given that any main character from Square Enix is a girlie-boy, and may look extremely effeminate, but heretoforth I haven't seen or heard of any account of any one of them being gay or even bisexual. And when placed in a yaoi fanfic, they are made what they are not. Which takes them out of concept and soils my impression of these game and toon characters.
Fiction is easy to oversee, and just not read, though.
Pictures, once seen, are hard to unsee. If you can, at all.

While I'm struggling with monsters, I'm going to try another go at my illustrated story without words, based on my Masteroid board game.

I wrote a story in rhymes about a mechanic who builds a machine to divide time. What happens is that the machine makes everybody stressed out to fit more action into every little tidbit of time. This lasts until the mechanic realises this, and destroys the machine. Instead of being grateful, the townspeople attack him and he is judged guilty of destroying the basis of existence, time, and gets a death sentence. He manages to escape the mob and goes outside the enormous city, into mysterious forests, lands in the clouds and the dark depths of depression and self loathing.
I wrote it some years ago, and made sketches for the illustrations.
The illustrations were to be photos of poseable dolls and scenery.

Now I thought I'd try doing that with my illustrated story, Dran of Poon.
It's not a comic, as it isn't comedy, and I don't think it's a graphic novel, either.
All dialogue is to be in glyphs unique to this storyline.
Now, to buy large amounts of FIMO and CERNIT.
It's become some years old now, and there've been some action-filled and mysterious adventures there. There's a new age in that world now, since one of the characters made the sky collapse. Not literally, but it is referred to as when the sky fell, as great amounts of large rocks (more like mountains) fell from the evil two moons and pretty much laid waste to half the continent. And now, the flora and fauna is being mutated by the influence of these rocks, not unlike what the legends say happened before the gods freed themeselves of their initial slavery. So, I've got some mutants to draw, and if they're any good, you'll see them here.
