I've found my Tribal Phoenix design got ripped off by a couple small businesses, which I'm handling, but I'm going to change the licensing for my gallery images. I figure, I'm not a lawyer, and I'd rather use a recognized license instead of making up my own rules.

From this point forward, my deviations will be distributed under the Creative Commons license. For attribution purposes, "(Name of Work) is copyright Chris Clouser" is sufficient.

So, hopefully my flailing around about licensing has come to an end. I apologize for the nonsense. Anyone who used my works under my old rules is fine.

Thanks,

The Rules (updated for clarification, 10/26/2007)

1. Personal / Non-commercial Use

Permission is granted to use images and designs appearing in my DeviantArt Gallery (collectively, "the Work") for personal, noncommercial use. This permission includes, for example, activities such as actually getting a tattoo of the Work, or incorporating the Work or portions thereof into other compositions for personal use. There is no requirement that I be contacted prior to such use.

2. Commercial Use

Commercial or non-personal use of the Work is prohibited, unless explicitly granted by me in writing. In this sense, "commercial use" includes, but is not limited to, using the work or any substantial portion thereof for business or organization logos, website images, advertising, or product branding.

The litmus test of this, as far as I'm concerned, is if you are using the Work or a substantial portion thereof as part of any venture in which you or any associate of yours receives revenue, such use would be prohibited. Added 10/26/2007: Notwithstanding the issue of revenue, all non-personal uses of the Work require express permission in writing before your organization can use the Work.

3. Credit

Please provide credit where credit is due. If you use the Work, please credit me ("Chris Clouser," or, alternatively, "Holymonkey" if the work is being showcased on DeviantArt), for those elements of the Work that are used. Play fair.

4. Miscellaneous Stuff

These rules supercede any comments made previously.

5. Contacting the Artist

I can be contacted at holymonkeyda@gmail.com.

Thanks,
