But for now, drinks! Since we want something cheap then a ladies night would probably be best. I'm not exactly savvy with the bar scene in Hong Kong, so someone, feel free to pick a place. I do know that ladies night means a wednesday?

Typhoon does a good ladies night deal on a Thursday night -free standard spirits, or something. Club 97 has free Cosmos for girls on a Thursday night, but is pretty expensive for people actually buying drinks. The Cavern has Jagerbombs on Thursday. Lan Kwai's other places I assume just have something on a Wedesday night.

For the men though, I suggest we all meet up fairly early, say 6.30 or 7.00, and find a good happy hour. Les Jardins has Stella, Hoegarden and Carlsburg [I think] on tap, for $30 a pint before 8.00. Bulldogs has Guiness on tap though, which is also very tempting.

Anyone else who has suggestions, put them here. We could have dinner as well, maybe? As for a date, I leave Hong Kong on the 3rd July, so sometime in the coming week would be great. I'm thinking Thursday the 28th June.

I'm so sorry.


If you applied to be a member, I'm sorry, you'll be added by the end of the weekend.

I've had my exams and what not. So I banned myself from the computer, and then after exams finished I suffered from a combination of forgetfulness and lazyness. It's slowly fading, but it's still pretty bad.


Anyways, about the devmeet. Okay so I'll be free any time after the 18th of June.

The main ideas are:
- the Beach (maybe we could go kayaking or something)
- Dinner or drinks or something
- Getting lost in Hong Kong
- Some kind of photo tour

We'll vote now, and then decide on the best date.


I also need someone to help me out with this, since I think Mei stopped caring long ago. So if you want to help out, please note and i will consider your application. haha. Basically what you'd be doing is just adding new members which is quite boring and tedious, and also trying to liven this place up.

Anyways, it's getting close to Chinese New Year. I'm going to be uber gwailou and go sailing around Hong Kong for 3 days or so. I'll have no internet! What will I do?! Anyways, so I hope you guys are all getting ready for the year of the boar, or pig.

And then, after Chinese New Year it'll be the Sevens! Well, like, five weeks after that, but I'm so excited. I have my tickets already and I'm already feeling woozy just thinking about it. Three days of screaming, rugby and funky dressed drunk people. I can't wait! Any of you guys going? OH RIGHT, I need tickets for some friends, so if anyone knows somewhere where I can get them.. please note me or something. Hopefully the price won't be too marked up.

Okay, so we're going to do something, not a competition, but I want to see how committed you guys are to this club. So I want Chinese New Year submissions. Just note it in and I'll put it up. Thank you for making me feel better by commenting.

I'm quite keen on somewhere air-conditioned. PCC or Starbucks are quite good, especially since the devmeet in Starbucks was quite a hit. There's a HUGE Starbucks in The Landmark, so we could go there.

Bowling would be awesome, though I'm kind of not too keen since I'll pretty much be meeting everyone for the first time and my bowling skills are so below par that I'll just make a fool of myself. And everyone will laugh at me. But it does sound like it would be a lot of fun, and I'm willing to shove all my pride and dignity aside for a good and successful devmeet.

Actually, bowling for me won't be so bad so long as we keep the gutter rail thingys up. HAHA. I'm so pathetic.

Okay, so I'm here to discuss the possibility of a summer devmeet.

Phantom of the Opera has been suggested, which is a pretty good idea. I already have tickets to go in August though, so you know, if this happens I won't be going.

Any ideas? Remember, we're going to need you guys tgo contribute ideas, and we're also going to need definate confirmations. I want this to happen, and I want it to happen good.

Okay, I know technically that didn't make much sense but I'm sure you all get my meaning. It'd be pretty sad if you didn't.

SO YES! IDEAS! PLEASE! If you don't like the phantom of the opera idea, SUGGEST SOMETHING ELSE. I don't want you to just turn down ideas, I want you to come up with something (if possible) that's better.

Okay, so I've done something new. Not quite. Well kind of.

It was really annoying to go though old notes and what not, since I'd read some but not had the chance to update them, there were hundreds of notes in our inbox and I had no idea whether or not they'd been actually sorted through or not.

Did that make any sense? Either way, I've completely cleared out all notes, so I'm sorry if you're going to have to re-note. This just means you'll actually get added this time. Haha.

Anyways, so summer is upon us and we've witnessed some wonderfully murderous weather. I've got three more weeks of this art course I'm doing at school, and then I'm going to try and get a job for a month before school starts again next eyar. How strange to think that I'll be starting IB next year.

Anyways, I'm pretty angry. You hear so much about how Hong Kong is one of the safest cities in the world, and you're so proud and what not. And then your bag get's stolen two days after your birthday and with it your two week old iPod.

Sorry, I'm still a bit emotional.

Anyways, the summer means the possibility of a meet, though from the comments I've read, you're all a tad too busy. But it's possible. And I'm really up for it, especially since our last one was a complete failure. Hahah.

Hey!

It's your new Assmin here. I'm home sick today, so I thought I would add a few new members. It's really annoying when you go through the notes you've recieved and most don't contain all of the information requested on the "How to Join" page.

To all prospective members,

Now, onto something happier.. What about a devmeet? It's been quite a while since the last one, out Admin thinks it might be a bit of an awkward time for a devmeet, but still, if you have any ideas, feel free to comment.

Also, we were asked if we have a chatroom. Do you guys want one? I guess if we were to get one, it would be the coolest place on the net. But would you guys use it?

Alrighty guys.

Have taken on Kim, ~xdevakix, as my new Assistant Admin, or as I like to call it, Assmin. She's already started with the heavy lifting, that is, accepting new members and answering queries and the like. I'll be the brains, and she'll be the braun. GRUNT! So everybody welcome her!

To all prospective members: if you have questions, PLEASE first read the how to join page, link below. Hell, even if you don't have questions, read it anyway. THEN if you have something to ask that wasn't answered there, note us. It just makes this whole process easier for everyone. Many thanks.

What else is there?

Oh yeah. Start using the calender, people! Lets make this more of a community. I've entered in two dates in March. Check them out! I won't tell you what they're about so you're forced by curiosity to visit. Any sort of event, release date etc etc can be entered there. You never know, there may be someone else also interested in whatever dorky things you may be into. Ha! Jokinggg. I'm positive you guys are all excellent, interesting people.

I can't think of anything left to add at the moment. March is coming up. It seems like such an awkward time to arrange a devmeet, what do you guys think?

Dear Members,

I am sorry it's been so long (again) between journals. I'll keep this short. Due to work and study commitments, I simply do not have the time to manage hkda or give it the dedication and nurturing it deserves. It's unfair to you guys, especially to all our prospective members, so I'm stepping down. Administrating *hongkongda has been a fantastic experience. Personally, and with regars to gaining experience too. I have met people that have truly touched (No! not that way, you sick animals!) and inspired my faith in the Hong Kong art community.

It's unfair to put all of this on top of Mei, so if anyone is interested in being appointed the new Administrator of our dear club, contact me via note to my personal account *nashua and i'll give you the run-down. Only if Mei declines the job herself that is.

2004-2005 has been amazing. Our devmeets, Mini devmeets, Press coverage debates, general mucking about and the like is sure to carry on for years to come - just without me being involved as much. To all of you : thank you!!! Do drop in at the art gallery where I work ("Art of Malcolm Golding Gallery, 31 Aberdeen St. Soho Central) every now and then for a bit of random banter, and possibly a cookie too .

Hi all!

Phew! Its been nothing but work for me lately, and unfortunately hongkongda took a backseat for awhile. I've read all the notes, so I am aware of all of you who are interested in joining.

Remember, all you have to do is note us with your Hong Kong related piece of artwork and add us to your friends list when viola! You're an official member of Hong Kong's local deviantART community. Our members are placed in four groups : Active, Inactive, Overseas (but based in Hong Kong) and "Friends of HKDA" or people who are members of the club but with not necessaily with any relation to Hong Kong.

Dear all,

The devmeet was GREAT today! It was definitely the best devmeet so far cos nothing can beat surfing on a lovely beach under the mild sunlight. Supper in Lan Kwai Fong was also fun - we had the golden opportunity to say hi and bye to Uncle C, plus watching Uncle C vs *nashua was a bonus. Please do submit any photos of this devmeet!

Well, it's good to round up my admin-ship with a fun devmeet (if I had not explained to you: this year I will have much more job to do at school, plus I will not be able to come back for Xmas and probably Summer). It's been great serving *hongkongda, and working with *nashua could not be any more fun! I am sure that *nashua will make a very enthusiastic club admin. Also, ~mdaypuck (Mei) - our ex-admin - is back! She will be our new Assistant Admin. With these two experienced admins, *hongkongda will no doubt get better - I will come back and inspect!

hkda Summer devMeet:

12th AUGUST (Friday)

We meet up at 2pm in the Hang Seng Bank in Shau Kei Wan MTR station (near Chai Wan), then get the number 9 bus which goes to Shek O ($6.5) at the bus terminal, and will get off before then. Then we'll leave the beach at about 7.

We must leave at 2.30pm to catch the bus which goes to Big Wave Bay, so please do not arrive any later than 2.30pm. The next bus which goes to Big Wave Bay is not available until 6:36pm, so DON'T BE LATE!!!

To bring:
food and drink (we don't want to see hkda members sent to the hospital)
bucket and spades
sunglasses
swimming gear
sun screen cream
artwork (mind the sunlight, water and salt)
cash (for transport and food)

PLEASE LEAVE YOUR NAME HERE by 11th August IF YOU ARE ATTENDING! This is to keep a proper document of an attendee list. Sorry for the hassle! (it's worth it!)

Dear all,

Thanks for those who have replied our notes. Due to the numerous requests, we have decided to push our devmeet to August.

The following date is proposed:

12th AUGUST (Friday)

We meet up at 2pm in Shau Kei Wan MTR station (near Chai Wan), then get a mini-bus which goes to Shek O, and will get off before then (remind me to let the bus driver know that we're stopping at Big Wave Bay). Then we'll leave the beach at about 7.

Activities will include sand castle building (do bring any buckets and spades), swimming, or just chill out. If you would like to share your artwork with us, feel free to bring them along, but do be aware of the sunlight so make sure you only expose them in the shade. Anyone have a beach umbrella that you wouldn't mind sharing with the club?

If you are travelling by other means of transport, please let me know so I will know how many people I expect to see on the beach.

If you have a strong preference for a different date (but not weekends because of the crowdedness) please let us know.

Great - It's finally settled - The beach it is! =]

I was just checking with you guys ;o) Perhaps for more interested deviants we could aways host a basketball mini devmeet - booking a public court is either free or asks a very affordable rental fee.

a) Big Wave Bay

advantages - gorgeous, not too packed, fine sand and fresh sea

disadvantages - takes some time to get there


b) Repulse Bay

advantages - Easily accessible,

disadvantages - overall steely and ultimately fake, the sand is terribly pebbly


c) Discovery Bay

advantages -.....the big buddah? Easy Trasportation

disadvantages - Usually overcrowded and a man made beach ??!


d)Stanley Beach - um, no

e) Clearwater Bay?
f)Deepwater Bay?

Anyone care to clue me in?

I thought of assigning everyone to bring a certain kind of food and the like, with someone possibly bringing their music. Sharing is caring people =] You're welcome to bring anything else you deem suitable, however for the consideration of everyone else's level of tolerance - please keep the amount of plastic spoons brought down to a minimum of three per person.

Rick and I will arrange transportation and the like of course.

Possible Dates -- Friday 22nd of July, Saturday 23rd, July ; Friday 29th of July; Saturday 30th of July

s u m m e r 05' devmeet

Our dear little club has grown at an almost alarming rate since our first official devmeet last summer. After discussion with =richardlai we have agreed that the upcoming one and possibly every summer devmeet from now on should be
used as a means to introduce new members and renew ties with our original members. Thus, a similiar meet as what we had in summer 04' with a bit of moderation and more organization is the front running prospect for this summer. Certain 'chilled out' establishments have been taken into consideration as I search for possible venue. I am rather partial to the idea of going to MIX. What do you think?

Suggest away! Free chocolate kisses for whoever contributes at the devmeet. You may hold me to this statement.

Hi all,

I have received several feedbacks before the deadline and it seems like the majority of us will be busy revising for exams, and having discussed with Nash, we have decided NOT to have a devmeet over the Easter holiday. Sorry about this. Good luck to those who will be taking exams after Easter (including myself!).

This means we won't be seeing you guys until summer. Any ideas are welcome of course - do bear in mind that summer leads to a larger range of possible activities, especially outdoors. We will gather the possible dates later on.

Oh, and do keep the artwork coming!

Club News

There seems to be a consensus with having a deviantID competition. It has generated quite a promising number of interested participants. However, we need your help in oming up with a feasible enough prize without bias to overseas or local members. Ideas? Interested Members Please Comment Below

Speaking of members, some of our newer members will be aware of our racial profiling *cough I mean member categorizing scheme. I'm sorry you guys. But I can't resist. only _{two more weeks!!} until the International Rugby World Cup Sevens is held at Hong Kong Stadium on March 18-20. Haven't got tickets? If your over the age of eighteen, you still might have a shot at winning tickets, as they were all sold ou within a day. Dear Members,

So here it is! The article that’s planning and production generated quite a few opinions from our member's. Thanks and Congratulations go to ~ Asenceana for her image, selected by Sunday Young Post’s image editor depicted below.



I asked her to scan the article in for us enabling our overseas member’s access to its content. Before I progress further I would like to voice a personal opinion. Myself, like many of you who approached me with this concern was rather dismayed by the absence of all the other images which were nominate by our members. A 'mini gallery' showcasing the diversity of your photography with the occasional traditional interlude was what I was hoping for . Unfortunately nobody had control over what would be eventually published, though in terms of content I agree that it was generally accurate in regards to the "local" aspect of hongkongDA. Though the terminology and grasp of deviantART as a whole was I hate to admit, exceptionally poor. My only real peeve was the mention of the word "site" as opposed to "webpage" which could have been stated to imply and further differentiate between deviantART and hongkongDA.
The SYP article was a great opportunity for *hongkongda in terms of publicity. However, the true essence of talent and the celebration of which will remain with us, at our devMEET's, within our general banter and immobilized in our artwork.

That said, I would like to thank all of you with your flawless attitude and immediate participation in nominating your fellow members' artwork. Special thanks should also go to ~mdaypuck, for her zany yet accurate chatter, ~Guts80 for his impeccable intellectual edge and ~satanic57 for representing the 'teenager' and budding talent’s of our club.

Richard, your absence was noted, so don't you dare feel left out


Note: SYP -- I have just read the recent comments regarding the SYP feature -- and I must agree. However I would like to clarify in the most pressing form that Mei Shing Yan and Jeff were especially straightforward and articulate in giving their own accounted experiance of deviantART. None of what they said was misleading, and I can personally vouch for the fact that for most of the interview deviantART in it's entity was what was most discussed. It is evident enough that the information we had given could have been easily manipulated and interpreted to conform to what the article reported. As the administrator in charge of this whole episode I accept full blame for what happened. I should have pushed harder and been more vigilant of the facts, despite the numerous bits of informtation I provided prior to the interview and days before the printing of that article. I am sorry. I understand that I am not wholly to blame, however it does not curb the sense of responsibility I feel right now. You have every right to be angry, I'm disgusted too, mostly with myself for not being more repetetive of the facts.
I hope, with all sincerity that we can move forward and not let this belittle * hongkongda I have hope for our club, and for the common sense of the general public and their ability to distinguish the difference when they log on. I apologize that this had to happen ; I will not take any offence if you blame me too.

Dear Members,

Whoo! Talk about a rush. To summarize briefly about what has been going on in the past couple of days ; I was approached by a South China Morning P ost Sunday Young Post (SYP) reporter with interest in writing a front page story regarding *hongkongda. A few emails and brief conversational interludes later I began to, in words best described as " freak the hell out." It was confirmed. DeviantART and HongKongDA will be on the front page of SYP on Sunday, January 30th, 2005

Naturally further opinions from Hong Kong DA members have to be gathered, specifically teenagers from international schools in Hong Kong, as that was the angle they wanted to persue. Therefore I personally selected three members based on their credibility and talent as artists, supportiveness of Hong Kong Deviantart, and availability. They are ~mdaypuck , ~ satanic57 and ~Guts80 -- A quick glance at their galleries affirmed my decision, between the three of them they display the diversity DeviantART, specifically Hong Kong DA takes pride in.

However, I wanted club participation, even though the magnitude of which has been receding recently within the local community. Since the article on * hongkongda will be featured on the front page itself, accompanying images are mandatory. Therefore I would like all members to participate with NOMINATING ARTWORK CREATED BY * hongkongda's MEMBERS. As it mirrors the specifications of our club, I would prefer if it were selected from Hong Kong DA's gallery. However all nominations are welcome. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE YOUR NOMINATIONS, AS THE LINKS TO THESE WILL BE SENT TO FOR SELECTION TO THE GRAPHICS EDITOR MONDAY 24th of JANUARY, latest by Tuesday. I trust that no conflict or unecessary inquiries that common sense is unable to answer will arise. Promptness as the execution of all these events, including an interview with the reporter of myself and Mei, Jeff and Shing Yan will be done so in the span of the next few days.

Please take a moment to read this, as I'll painfully assume you don't all religiously read every journal I laboriously put up

As you know the tsunami that shook our Asian counterparts -- and the hearts of people all around the world has left the citizens of those countries with the remnants of its wrath -- an excess of pain, and minimal resources. I'm sure that each and every one of you has professed some sort of desire to contribute, but as a majority of us are students, we are not financially competent to donate funds on a larger scale.

However ~fabfriends came to me a few days ago, with a truly brilliant opportunity for *hongkongda and more so yourselves, as individuals to productively help out. Beverly (~ fabfriends) is a youth envoy for Unicef Hong Kong which will be staging the following events in the course of the next few days/weeks :

Hi Guys,

Another dawn of another year. Another cliche, from yours truly
Alot has happened this past year, politically, morally, emotionally for alot of us, but zooming in on the smaller spectrum, the orb that we all hold dear in our hearts; DeviantART. 2004 was a year of prouduction in many ways. The community has flourished, strangers became friends, terms like "glomp" and "I'll probe you" became additions to our lexicon, and some of us realised that "html" was not an abbreviation for hotmail. -- allright, so what if it was only me? :intimidating:

2004 was also a contstructive year for * hongkongda in particular, with alot of changes, mostly affable mind you, but changes all the same. Thank You all for all the support during this short space of time, the impact your dedication has created will act as coal in which I personally hope will be refuelled far after the cookie crumbs have gone, and the spoons have fallen off a certain club administrator's respective nose.

[If you have no clue what I'm on about, you haven't been coming along on the devmeets have you? ]

Thank You all again for a truly memorable 2004, for all the members who came along on new years eve's makeshift DevMeet, it was a unique experiance exemplified by our elite group of well, nutters.

On that note, DevMeet Number _Four 2oo5! Rick has already briefed you guys on what is intended, let me stress and furthur clarify exactly what we plan on doing. Following is a list of (pretty) bulletpoint's, each carrying its own wieght in significance, so for all you lazy buggers out there , at least scan past them please ;

A Preliminary DevMeet, much like the one on New Years Eve where a small group of members* watched the movie "The Phantom of The Opera" together will be executed somewhere around February.

-- These "mini devmeets" as they have come to be known are excurions in which members can interact in select groups and fammiliarize themselves with the club and any members free on that day. They are usually very chilled in attitude, nothing official Another reason for having one prematurely is that *jahg or James, will be visiting Hong Kong around that time, subject to travel arrangements and the like. So What? you may ask, well this is the same James who generously bought Hong Kong DA a subscription and prints account, besides, he really is a lovely person.

-- Something along the lines of going to Ocean Park has been discussed. As trapped marine life represents hong kong at its best, I encourage the idea. . Only Joking, heres how I see it, if Ocean Park is so inexcusably dull, heres your chance to do something about it!

* More members showed up for the mini devmeet as opposed to DevMeet Number Three. 'Ouch' you may say. We agree.

Either a hike, or a pleasant stroll on...Lamma Island! Easter is what we are aiming for.This is "the big one" Apprehensive about it's location and a lack of familliarity of the region? Rick and I are researching avidly, and we assure you that we will survey the island on foot, several times if it comes to that and find out all that is relevant. We realise that this is a huge undertaking, which is why we have begun planning a few good months prior.

Also, a big thanks for those who came to the mini-devmeet today. We are sorry about the trouble today - all was unexpected! But eventually we found some seats in Pacific Place, so I hope all 6 of you enjoyed the movie (I know Nash did, and I loved it). I can safely conclude that The Phantom of the Opera is a definite MUST WATCH!

Plans for 2005
*jahg, a.k.a. James, who bought us a subscription and a prints gallery, will be visiting Hong Kong in mid-February. Nash is thinking of organising a devmeet to introduce him up close to us. Has anyone got any ideas of what we can do? This is a good opportunity to promote our city by the way, so we can probably go to the Ocean Park with him together. Any ideas are definitely welcome.

Another plan is to organize a trip to Lamma Island during the Easter holiday. (don't laugh Kris and Cray, just pretend that I've got an American accent) I've had a look and found a 2-hour long hike which takes us from the north-west to the south-east of the island, and we will walk pass a beach as well. It should be a nice walk if the weather is nice. Plenty of preparation will be done for this one. More details will be published then.

I'm sorry for the intrusion you guys. Today has been quite a day of suprises...

First of all Mei, I write this knowing that even though a good friend remains in you, we have lost a fantastic administrator.You brought this club to life and were inexplicably adamant to develop it into something that could nearly mirror the spirit of its members. You laid down the foundation and moulded its substance so stealthily that it did not take much for Rick and I to attempt to build on top of. Thank you for giving this club life, and in doing so, instilling hope for all Hong Kong Deviants [hey remember the ad "where there is life, there is hope" --hehehe] We love you, and good luck with all that you may encounter.

Secondly, my good friend *jahg true to his insatiably generous spirit and general good will has bought *hongkongda a one year subscription! and has also activated a prints accountfor us, therefore if anyone manages to sell a print submitted through the club, 50% of profit will be attributed to you as opposed to the regular 10%. Thank him do, if you get the chance, and for some fantastic poetry, check his diverse, however highly entertaining gallery.

I'm still rather baffled by all of the events the past few hours have brought us, do confirm about the devmeet on thursday.

I'm as shocked by the news as Nash. Mei, we know you've been quite busy recently so we can't blame you. Thank you for all the hard work you've put in for the club. We owe you everything.

On a brighter note, *jahg is the daddy! It's gonna take me some time to get used to the new interface.

Someone has asked about the prints account, and I had a go with my submission. Basically you submit a print, and then you get to choose which deviation in your account (in this case, *hongkongda's) you would like use. Please notice that they stress that only pictures with high resolution can be used, so make sure that you submit a high resolution version of your picture as your source image for the print.

After a bit of research on the Internet, Nash and I have realised that "The Phantom of the Opera" will not be released until the end of this month < insert Nash's sobbing voice here>, so we've decided to change our plan - let's watch "Kung Fu Hustle" instead!!! (The movie's dubbed in Cantonese, with English and Chinese subtitles.)

The movie will start at 1:50pm in UA Pacific Place. For those who are unfamiliar with the location, take Exit C in Admiralty MTR station (or ask the friendly station assistants), and you should find yourself under a bridge once you're on the ground level, turn right and go up the escalator, walk across the bridge and you should be in Pacific Place.

After the film we'll walk to the Peak Tram Station (est. 10 minutes) and take the Peak Tram (est. 7 minutes, $20), and we'll be walking the Pok Fu Lam Resorvoir trail (see this site, it's the forth trail). The trail should last for about 45 minutes. Then we'll dismiss once the walk's finished. There will be buses which will take you to Central or Admiralty MTR Station.

We're ditching the idea of booking seats as it doesn't seem to work, so we'll just have to queue up and buy the tickets individually, so let's say we meet up outside the cinema at about 1:20pm, and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't be late, so that we can get as many people sitting together as possible.

Location: UA Pacific Place, Admiralty
Meeting Time: 1:20pm SHARP!
Items to bring: cash, drink, food (there's a good spot for a picnic in the reservoir)
Things to wear: clothes ideal for hiking, e.g. walking boots, trousers, etc.

After much interaction with all you obliging deviants out there, a preliminary date for the christmas devmeet has been set for :

December 23rd 2004

Priority was given to overseas deviants in this case as a large chunk of who will be returning for christmas responded agreeably to this date.

A venue still has to be set, so do consider all possibilites, we need your support in making these decisions as they are catered towards your conveniance, so please do inform us of your view.

Take into consideration the following --

Thus far, a picnic has been the leading suggestion, variables for this in particular are numerous. One, its december, a sunny day may fall into the context of wishful thinking, also a picnic may not be the most practical execution in terms of utilizing ourselves at this time of year. We'll keep this open for a future devmeet, as for now we desperately need some good, plausible ideas. Come on you lot, usually it takes a couple of handfuls to get us all to shut up

~watch -- Some of you may have noticed ~ hongkongda has added you to the club devWATCH list. This was a step induced to provide easier access to members from the club administration. We have compiled you all into selective groups based on your situation on deviantART. This includes an "active" , "inactive", and "overseas" group, for simplicity's [and ~richardlai's] sake, these three sectors seem to cover enough ground, and it shall remain essential for the breadth of the title to be ambiguous. That being said, please be adivsed that :hongkongda: has no obligation in recieveing your deviations, though we strive to promote the uncapricious talent and numerous abilities of our members, personal comments from the club's account in regards to deviations debases it's credibility and is biased towards the member, for all which we have unticked the "deviation" box.

On a side note, tomorrow is the last day for Footloosebrought to you by the Youth Arts Festival. I have been to see it twice and I reccomend you get down there if you can. A phenomenal performance from kids you actually may know from school, coupled with an impeccable itch of proffessionalism makes it one show worth seeing. Also on the 6th floor of the same building if you have the time check out the pop art exhibition with works from local and gobernmental schoolchildren, some of which are rather impressive.

First up, apologies for the delay; this journal was supposed to be up last weekend. Unfortunately my laptop took an unprecedented leap of fate and committed suicide, assisted by yours truly, of course

Getting right down to business, this journal primarily concerns the upcoming DevMeet, this December. The convenience and reasoning behind this date being fairly obvious as most of our members will be joining us for Christmas break. Also I think it’s safe to say that the scheduling of future meetings will fall within the context of major public holidays.

Date
In terms of when in December, the majority of those who have commented were partial to early December or somewhere around the 20’s. Let me know what you think via comment to ~ hongkongda so I could incorporate it all into a poll stating all possibilities and link it back here.

Venue
So far, to my knowledge no one has suggested anything of iron clad proportions approved by all. The preliminary idea’s I suppose would be either a Picnic suited somewhere in hong kong side (Botanical Gardens, Victoria Park, Repulse Bay) or perhaps another go at, DevMeetTwo I had initially thought that a comparison of season (late summer/winter) would be interesting. Supposing we take documented visuals [that really didn’t come out sounding the least bit pretentious, I’m sure ] of whatever our subject matter may be, and later on with a change of season take a second set of prints or sketches.

December is fast approaching and we would really appreciate it if we could get feedback from all interested participants as soon as possible. Since so many of our overseas members will be joining us, lets make this a meeting to be remembered (…..for the good that is )

Rugby

Save the rolling of eyes, here’s a project I’m personally very excited about.Happy Valley ; one of Hong Kong’s leading sport clubs has finally ventured into youth sport. A Wide network of resources associated with sport, including Rugby, Netball and Hockey especially catered for the youth of hong kong is finally being compressed into age based leagues.. If any of your brothers and sisters are over five years old, Valley, Valley Fort or Valley Colts has a team for them.

Furthermore, a new team to accompany DEA Tigers ( previously the only Under 18’s Girls squad in hong kong) affiliated with Happy Valley is now in session. Interest and participation is at this stage, vital. I know I would love having some members from DA out there with me. Rugby for me, has not only been a most valued cathartic, but the epitome of my potential. Throughout my life, it has been the only consistent element. The realms of teamwork, brotherhood and pure unfiltered fun have been stationing me within its belly for years. Have a go, and no worries whatsoever if you are a beginner, because that’s the level in which the team is being executed. So come on all you girls out there, lets feel that female testosterone!

Training is to be commenced alternatively between Kings Park in Jordan, Happy Valley in causewaybay, or at the Stanley Fort, I may be mistaken but again, the website is the most effective source for all questions.

Coincidently, there may be a request for photographers in the near future by Happy Valley mainly involving action shots (perfect for all amateur photographers in hk) for the new "V" bar. I am not certain of any details therefore I’ll refrain from mentioning anything until I am sure. I’ll keep you posted.

In that case, maybe we should just have a devmeet in the big holidays (Christmas, Easter, Summer) rather than having one each month. This way people would be more likely to be able to attend the devmeets, and also each devmeet would be more special. Bear in mind that work (as in school work for most of us here) is way higher on the priority list, so if you know you're going to be very busy, then I would stick to the proposed plan.

Sorry if I'm disappointing some of you guys, but we have to be considerate of other people in the community. Just imagine how good it would feel to attend a devmeet meeting up with lots of fellow HK deviants, rather than meeting up with just 3 or 4 in an OFFICIAL devmeet!

I have just got back from the second HongKong Devmeet somewhat dissappointed. The participation level was at such a diverse angle as opposed to our last meeting. There were four members, including myself and ~mdaypuck in all and was so for the remainder of the day. Laughable, I'm sure but also raises a vital question regarding the club in itself. I realise that variables persisted for all of us and many of you were unable to come for reasons beyond control, however your physical self was not needed for assurance.

For furthur meets I impress upon you all urgently for some form of indication that you will be there. I realise as a member of the the staff, it was my responsiblity to incorporate some sort of sign up list, instead of loosely handling such organisation depending too much on the interaction of our members. This slight of error I will try and resolve for upcoming meets, but cannot be executed without your help. Over the next week or so, do give us some indication that you are interested in DeviantArt Hong Kong or any of its respective components via note, rather than using it simply as a pretty red emblem of ethnicity at the bottom of your journal.
Active members will be added to the clubs data base along with his or her respective email, hopefully by doing so, the rest of events organized by us will be executed in a more orderly fashion.

For all of those who were keen on coming but were not able to due to circumstances beyond your control, I thank you for upholding your trust and loyalty to ~hongkongda take care and hope to see you all soon.

Nash here again, I have finally formulated a plan for the Second Hong Kong DevMeet this coming Saturday October 2nd 2004.

We will all meet at the Central Star Ferry, in front of DYMOCKS Bookstore, at 2:40pm. From then on, we will embark on a “Tour” of Central, the details of which are recognized below. I realize that not all of us are photographers, which is why I’m going back to the initial idea suggested, where we will be paired up in either two’s or three’s, to ensure that 1) we don’t all bunch up together and inevitably get lost, 2) this way if anyone has more than one camera at home and wouldn’t mind sharing, by all means do bring them along. Needless to say, all of us will require bringing along a camera or sketchpad, but if you rather not participate, the company would be appreciated nonetheless . Star ferry is also ideal as film can be easily acquired as well as its location provides an incisive seam towards the heart of Central. Also, which self respecting photography enthusiast in Hong Kong has started out without a single photo of the Star Ferry or Statue Square? That was a rhetorical question, by the way.

The photography route is mapped as such

From Star Ferry, we’ll set off down the walkway crossing Connaught Road to The Mandarin Oriental Hotel. From then on we’ll walk up Ice House street, passing key elements in Central such as Alexandra House, The Chater House and The Prince’s building. We then pass the tram tracks and outline The Landmark, finally, walking down Pedder Street (The bustle of which on a Saturday afternoon will provide a lot of slightly urban, borderline grungy material for hungry cameras) towards Connaught Road once more, where the bridge to the IFC buildings will be taken straight to the welcoming air conditioned infused arms of IFC TWO. or if we’re feeling enthusiastic, we’ll walk back to Star Ferry, and take a shorter footbridge to IFC2.

Unfortunately I couldn’t find an interactive map online so you guys would know exactly what I’m on about, hopefully things will work out as planned.

For the next stage we’ll have to rely on our imaginative skills it seems, I’m sure a lot of you will be famished by then, so a very lax tea, or mid afternoon snack can be taken once we get there. Where exactly, I haven’t got the authority to say, what follows is a list of options for you guys to determine upon when we get there.

I will of course be down at Central once more before Saturday October 2nd to double check that things should be running smoothly. If there are any major changes I will let you all know either via DevJournal or note you individually.

I checked the weather for Saturday too, just for good measure; it will be from 24 degrees Celsius to 27 degrees. So wear something relatively comfortable, as we will be doing quite a bit of walking about, not to mention the possibility of a crowd.

Finally, IFC TWO is so centrally situated in terms of transportation that getting home shouldn’t be a problem whatsoever. The Central MTR station is right below the IFC mall, not to mention the Star Ferry and the easily accessible bus services.

Hello Hong Kong ( Always did want to say that!)

This is Nash [for those of you who don’t know me, *nashua ] I hope all of you are having a decent weekend, and all set for the DevMeet next Saturday, which is what this message primarily concerns. Since our beloved admin Mei is detained by her academic obligations, and the equally amiable Rick is all the way in the UK, there seems much to do in terms of organizing, I have plenty of free time therefore it seemed sensible for me to take over as the unofficial secretary.

What follows is a rather hastily formulated plan which should somewhat resemble the course of events to take place on Saturday, October the 2nd.

I propose that we all meet at Starferry in Central at around 2 – 3 pm in front of DYMOCKS (The Bookstore) rather than all of us getting lost inside the new IFC2Mall. From then on, supposing the weather is favorable we can commence with the earlier suggested plan of deviants pairing up and performing/sharing their respective art form, be it photography, traditional art, poetry or the like ; an apprenticeship of a sort, perhaps. From then on we can all progress to the IFC2 Mall for a very lax snack, or somewhere to sit down and just chill. On the way we will be passing the bustle of central, being exposed to all its key elements and structures which will no doubt prove to be fruitful to all you photographers out there . I admit that this plan does sound rather incomplete, which is why I will be down there tomorrow to check the mall and all its components out, I will forward any further details to ~richardlai when I have inhabited them.
