I enter it on the brink of 300000 pageviews and 1.5 million deviation views. I've completely lost my obsession with DA stats (luckily), but it's cool to reach the round numbers!

What am I doing this year? Lots of travelling, hosting lots of workshops, hiking a lot more and hopefully Canon releases the new 5D and 1Ds IV. My main goal for the year is to buy a decent 4x4. Southern Africa has a lot to offer and the menu increases ten fold if you have a decent 4x4.

Some 'highlights' from the past few weeks was a much much much too close encounter with a lion in the kalahari. The arrogant landscape photographer strayed too far from camp in his pursuit of lone trees at sunset. I'll tell the whole story in my blog. Bear Gryll's advice saved my life! :D

I finished the the stupid photography certificate course that I wasted my year on.
My camera was at the service center for 9 weeks due to Canon South Africa and their service agent having the most unlikely chain of mishaps, but I have it back now.

My mother passed away last week after a long battle with cancer. I post this not for attention or sadness, but as a tribute to her. I have a lot of respect for her and loved her with my heart and soul. She was the artistic influence in my life and I will miss her dearly.

Sooooo…..It’s been about 3 months (I think) since my first tutorial and I’ve learnt a lot from photoshop in the mean time! So this is the improvement on my first tut and I’ll be going a bit more into using layers and levels to achieve better and more dynamic color range in your photos.

Firstly, my disclaimer to all you critics out there. I have split landscape photography into 2  main genres. The first group show you nature as it is, they do very little processing and their photos always have a very clean, natural look. Good examples are :devwingmar: , :devkkart: , :devlonelywolf2:

Firstly, I really put a lot of effort into this tutorial and this is may way of saying thank you to all my watchers( those who need this) for your loyal support!

Secondly, all the knowledge that I am about to share, I learned in the past 4 months from other deviants and internet tutorials, it is not THEE way, it’s my way…remember 3 things…..

1. Google always has the answer, you just have to find it.
2. No one can teach you as much about photography as the deviantart community.
3. And the best editing is that done behind the camera using the right filter ]]>
