This decision is 99% because of how active the DeviantART community is and how comparatively easy it is to have your works exposed to the community. I am still in shock at how my "Misty Yangshuo" photo is reaching 500 views and has already gathered 70+ favs, something that I have never been able to achieve on Flickr. In fact, my best record on Flickr is 2 favs, and 50 something views. The other 1% is purely because it seems like a novel idea to have an alternative portfolio :).
