That's what is going to happen if Internet Neutrality is allowed to be defeated by the special interests currently gearing for war with the FCC.

[link]

A succinct excerpt from this article follows

You say, "Where there have been a handful of questionable actions in the past on the part of a few companies, the Commission and the marketplace have responded swiftly. The case has simply not been made for what amounts to a significant regulatory intervention into a vibrant marketplace." Essentially, you are claiming that since no carrier has been bold enough to actually implement a tiered structure, they won't.

You must realize that in many cases we're talking about the same companies that charge more to send a single SMS text message than it costs to retrieve the same amount of data from the Hubble telescope. The terms "fair" and "reasonable" aren't in these companies' dictionaries.

Please pass along the information above to everyone you can. certain corporate interests want to make sure that only those who can pay through the nose for internet service will do so. The want to make the internet just like cable tv, with one service, holding both consumers and providers over a barrel just to talk to each other.

And of course, write your various state and federal lawmakers, expressing your EXTREME DISPLEASURE for this kind of back door policy making.

"Naw, that can't be right, it must be my allergy clogged eyes playing tricks on me." I mean....

[link]

Okay, Marvel and DC both have sucked major donkey dick in the last two decades, spending most of their creative talent writing to fourty year old fanboys and clinging to characters and stories just as old instead of really innovating, thus allowing manga and web comics to feast on their rotting corpses.... (Black lanterns = undead super heroes anyone?)

But Marvel at least managed to remain independent while DC was swallowed up by the behemoth that is Time Warner. They ran interesting cartoon and movie interpretations of their properties and were the last to leave the failing CW Kids network before it was sold out to 4cha- erm 4kids.

Meanwhile, DC execs pissed a bitch to the execs of Cartoon Network about their running Marvel shows instead of the corpses of JLA and The Batman over and over after both series had been off the air and not even shown in their entirety, thus causing Marvel to bail on CN and move most new properties over to Nick.

I wouldn't look to see those properties continue on Nick, a MAJOR competitor to the Disney Channel, once the current agreements expire, BTW. Be prepared to see W&tXM, Ironman Armored Adventures, and the reborn Fantastic Four either fold up in two years, or move over to Disney XD.

Not that the House of Mouse is any stranger to either running Marvel Properties (the current season of Spectacular Spiderman, and several properties that had previously run on the Jetix program block such as Uncanny Xmen and Spiderman/Unlimited) or Comics (see the myriad tie-ins to their toon properties) But it seems like Disney is only interested on continuing the Status Quo, trading on the strength of old names and old properties like Iron Man and Xmen than in actually turning a floundering Juggernaut (see what I did there?) around and really innovating.

Anyways, yeah, We are not amused!

Who else is having them?

not my usual complaints about moderators, this is site performance. In most browsers, but especially in Firefox 3 and 3.5, I am having pages not come up. Also having time outs when submitting comments, searches returning blank results, and trouble viewing anyone's sub-galleries.

Anyone else? Oh, and yeah, I can't change the mood on this Journal entry.

:::EDIT 6/28/2009:::

So............. According to the Help Desk... Internet Explorer has known issues with Diviant Art; Multiple ones.

And worse still, it has MORE issues with Adblock Plus for Firefox.

The Moods thing apparently is ongoing across all browsers.

I was told by help desk that this was nothing they could work around.

BULLSHIT.

It means your not willing to write good javascript on either platform. Or WORSE, that you want to force people to unload Adblock to FORCE them to view all the asinine advertisements on this site.

I'd lay dollars to deutschmarks it's a little of both, more of the latter.

Firefox 2-3.5 account for anywhere from 22-25% of all browser traffic. And Adblock is installed on the majority of those browsers... Deviant Art expects me to believe that either they are too incompetent to properly code standard Java; to be compatible with the second most widely used browser in the world and its fairly benign ad blocking program, or that they are indeed trying to force me to view their ads by jacking my browser of choice on purpose. NONE of the other sites, large or small, which I go to, including java-intensive ones such as Linksys's support page and Acer Pan-Am have issues with my very standard browser setups.

Honestly, I am very nearly done with Deviant Art. Between this laxity or extortion, and the ongoing issues that several of my followed artists deal with on a daily basis from crusading moderators, it's not worth my frustration to continue to give them traffic.

I'm writing this edit from Google Chrome simply to get back mopst (but not all) of the functionality that DA is unwilling to make work with Adblock, but I should not have to either reconfigure one browser, or install a THIRD browser just to utilize one freaking site. (I already am running IE 8 as a backup, but as I listed above, it too has multiple known issues with DA)

Please pass this journal along to anyone you know who is having issues with the slobs who have programmed Deviant Art. Honestly, this is a site that people count on, and pay for, on a PROFESSIONAL BASIS, and we're being lied to as consumers either out of laxity or duplicity... is it any wonder people are actively looking for or building competition?

Well, the Twaterators (Moderators) of Deviant Art have done it again. This time, the artist known as 14-bis/airaf has been permenantly banned for violations. Obviously, I don't have any specifics, but it seems apparent via journals of Deviants in touch with 14-bis that the artist, known for hosting various art jams, including the famous "playtoon" covers, was retroactively banned for past violations and for the sales of his Zip File adult packages. (none of which, incidentally were ever posted on the site as anything more than highly censored sketches) the current art jam didn't even have anything racey, it was an interesting jam of Franco-Belgium cartoons!

It doesn't matter the content of his stuff, of course; what matters is the crusading moderators and their foot-soldier army of trolls have driven another immensely talented artist of the site for posting images that, if done in photograph ala would not only not be against the rules, but would probably be Daily Masturbations (which is what half of them are anyway, many of the nudes posted on the DD channel are more provocative than anything posted by 14-bis) Incidentally, go look at CosplayDeviant's art. Its ALL of actors who the operator freely admits are posed in pornographic poses on their own pay site linked directly from DA, and whom are portraying under age characters from series such as teen titans, naruto, dragonball, etc. yet it is still thriving. This is somehow different from fan art artists provocative inks how?!

I will AGAIN repost the supposed rules violation used to take down so many fan artists in all its hipocrisy

FAQ #248: Are there restrictions on artworks showing children or teenagers (fictional or otherwise)?

"# • Fan art concerning characters that are considered underage minors or children in their original context are subjected to several restrictions which mirror the restrictions in place for photographic submissions and in addition may be held to the following restrictions listed here;

# • Characters who are underage in their original context may not be depicted with "enhanced" breasts, buttocks, or genital areas.

# • Attempts to portray a fictional underage or child character as an "adult" in order to avoid these restrictions will be subjected to close scrutiny by staff. Such claims will be considered void in any case where the staff deems that significant and telling changes of the original underage character design were not attempted or that such efforts were inadequate.

# • Characters which have been portrayed as a range of ages in their original media will be classified as underage or not based upon the youngest portrayal as well as their average age over the series."

You'll note that these restrictions say nothing about swimsuits, clothing, etc. Nor do they BAN adulterated fan art.(characters made into adults via fan art) Yet, more often than not, this is the type of art removed. Art of characters MADE adult in art, or of characters who ARE ADULT through most of the runs of their series (see Teen Titans DC Comics / Warner Brothers, where the characters STARTED in their late teens and whom are all currently either 18 or older in print)

Additionally, the referenced photo rules in the above FAQ
FAQ #249: Are there restrictions on photographs of teenagers or children?

"••May not be photographed in any clearly sexual or alluring pose.
•••This applies for both clothed and unclothed photographs."

So, who gets to decide what is or is not a "clearly sexual or provocative pose?" I'll give you three guesses, the first two don't count, and the answer isn't you, me, or manny, moe, or jack. And Who gets to decide what is or is not "significant and telling changes of the original underage character?" The same person who is not you, me, manny, moe, or jack.

I can't help but notice that any time a fan art artist is banned, or his/her works are deleted, 1.) these rules have been very recently tweaked (so the mods can play CYA) and 2.) many MANY of the deleted artists are not paying DA subscribers. (14-bis was)

14-bis was an important community member. And while I my not have agreed with everything he said or did on his account, I respected and appreciated the ways in which he engaged his fanbase, posted his own gorgeous artwork, and encouraged a community of fan artists long before DA's current pimping of "groups" which is apparently just an advertising schill.

So, Moderators. Here it is.

Stop with the double and triple fucking standards. <...

Geeze, you sure don't like to be pinned down, do you? Now what's your biggest fear?
Probably change... I hate it when things change in my world... a lot. Well, okay, dating Han is nice... but usually, change... yeah.

10. Well, I know the feeling on that one. Any siblings?
No. It's really impossible. In fact, I shouldn't even exist. I have a lot of cousins though who are like my siblings.

11. You shouldn't exist? Erm, never mind... Who's your hero?
My parents of course. So strong, respected, and maybe a little feared.

12. Ok, who is your worst enemy?
Thomas Edison Tesla, AKA “Tesla.” A homophobic, fundamentalist, electrically charged littl Oni who Just loves to torture me and my friends and... what? Sorry sir, sometimes I just get off on a rant about him.

13. What would you do if your hero and your worst enemy got together?
Well, in an infinite universe anything is possible, I guess... but really? Have you met my parents? Either one of them? It wouldn't happen in a reasonable world. Not something I should need to worry about.

14. Interesting wording. What would you do if you met your creator?
Well, ask him why I was cursed with the ~pink~ forcefield glow... oh, and I'd ask him what he's thinking with this odd half-sister of mine from another dimension and me and... Okay I know I said in an infinite universe anything is possible... but I...Yes, sorry, I'm ranting again, huh?

15. Okay, I'll contact him right now. Done! Now, what do you want to be when you grow up?
A hero, just like mom, and ma, and Han and Uncle Ron and Aunt Yori, and Grandma Possible and Great Grandma Nana, rest her soul, and just about every adult I know really.

16. Wow, that's a lot of role models. What's your worst nightmare?
Isn't that very similar to the question about my greatest fear, sir? No? Semantics, English is such a clumsy language. Well, I used to think it was change, but now I think it's more specific than that, losing the people I love, after Tesla almost vaporized ma, and after Han moved away for three years, well, It sort of puts things into perspective.

17. What's your lifelong dream?
Isn't that fairly similar to question fifteen? Again with the language tricks. You, sir, are as hard to pin down as I am. Well, Aside from being a hero, Id really like to have a family of my own. Yes I know I'm pretty young to be thinking about it, but family is important in my... family.

18. What would you do if your lifelong dream came true?
Now that really is redundant. Move on to the next question please.

19. Fine, be that way... I'm beginning to see why you're champion of the debate team! Ok, where's your favorite place to relax?
Well, a few weeks ago the Twids and I found this old abandon lair. It used to belong to “Docto...

I just learned more sad news for cartoon fans. "The Spectacular Spiderman" Which earned raves from critics and fans alike last year on the CW, has been axed.

[link]
[link]

Obviously, by the links above, Greg Weisman, Creator of the 90's "Gargoyles," was helming this show for Sony Pictures and Kids CW. Which explains why it was so stunning: Say what you want about Weisman's personality, but his attention to detail is almost always an asset to good production standards and excellent story telling.

Spectacular Spiderman premiered on Kids CW (Now the CW 4Kids, by 4kids TV) early in 2008 and quickly garnered favorable reviews as an imaginative retelling of the Spidey mythos, involving elements from the original comics, the recent movies, and original origins for many of the characters. The series set Peter Parker in higschool, along with his best friends Gwen Stacy and Harry Osborn, while living with Aunt May Parker, and trying to deal with both the trials of growing up, and with the disasters that accompany being the friendly neighborhood Spiderman. Many of the rogues gallery had new origins on the series, and several were villains not seen since the "Amazing Spiderman and Friends" of the 70's and early 80's, and thus largely unknown to current TV viewing fans and movie converts. The show had a unique, chunky animation style, shying away from the recent wave of anime style art washing over most american toons.

Sadly, in 2007, the CW Network became the last major broadcast network to cancel its all original Saturday morning lineup, following in the footsteps of fox, abc, and the other networks, choosing instead to contract out the programing block to 4kids animation. (these are the schmucks famous for gutting anime like Yugio and OnePiece, and buying up old 90's tv cartoon properties like Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century and Robocop) which meant that Spectacular Spiderman was premi"ering on a dead network when it came to air in march 08. The ratings and reviews for Spiderman, however, were enough to spare it the fate of "The Batman," which ended with the Kids CW programming block in May 08.

Kids CW itself was actually the rebranding of Kids WB, after WB and UPN merged in 2006 to form the CW television network. Kids WB, of course, gave us such classics as Animaniacs, Earthworm Jim, The Batman, Batman Beyond, Pinky and the Brain, Xmen Evolution, and many others.

Originally, it was to continue airing on CW 4 kids, as well as on Teletoon in Canada. Its return to TV was delayed however, with little reason given. In early December, it was announced that this was because Sony had made a deal to air season 2 instead on the new Disney XD channel in March 2009 for the american audience rather than renew with 4kids. ((keep in mind, this is the very same channel that decided NOT to air Weisman's "Gargoyles," and yanked the licensing rights to it so the Gargoyles comic was also canceled, presumably in order to prevent it stealing market share))

Unfortunately, the protracted absence of new episodes seems to have killed the project finally. Although Season two is now airing in Canada and premiered on January 11, Sony Pictures Animation, which produces Spectacular, has closed down production and let go the entire cast and crew. Considering that (my opinion here) Disney XD is doomed to fail, as Disney is taking away a network with few, but very loyal viewers of Jetix and Disney cartoons in "Toon Disney", and replacing it with a network targeted towards fickle males ages 6-14 who are already split between Cartoon Network and NickToons, the chances that Sony will recind the death sentence for Spectacular Spiderman are slim-to-none.

Vaya con dios, Spidey

He was 88.

Montalban died Wednesday morning at his Los Angeles home of complications related to old age, said his son-in-law, Gilbert Smith.

Within the entertainment industry, Montalban was widely respected for his efforts to create opportunities for Latinos, although he and others believed that his activism hurt his career. In 1970, he founded the nonprofit Nosotros Foundation to improve the image and increase employment of Latinos in Hollywood.

"He paved the way for being outspoken about the images and roles that Latinos were playing in movies," said Luis Reyes, co-author of "Hispanics in Hollywood" (2000).

---

A great character actor in both the states and Mexico...
Ya know what, even my favorite web comics are calling me a bad American this morning, and I don't like it!

I'm not being a bad citizen in not voting... I'm not "abdicating my rights" or some populist bullshit like that. This election cycle has been going on for two years solid and I'm tired of it frankly. People only figured out in 2005 what I knew in 2000, that Bush was a warmongering old gaurd idiot, and they want to act surprised and clamor for change from the situation they got themselves in to in the first place by "exercising their rights."

Stop calling me a bad American because I've made a choice that takes in to account more time and thought than the 16-30% of people who actually do vote like trained monkeys. I don't go to a polling place and rubber stamp what the media or my party tells me, nor do I go to a polling place and just read the ticket that's there and try to make a decision with my thumb up my ass on a moment's notice; because the ticket was written by lawyers and politicians specifically to be too obtuse to do so.

I'm exercising my rights as an American by NOT voting. I'm NOT voting for one candidate over another because "I hate this guy less than that guy." I'm NOT voting for a third party candidate about whom I know virtually nothing, and whom has no realistic chance of getting elected, simply because I don't like the first two schmucks. I'm DEFINITELY NOT going to cast my vote for someone whose policies I don't support simply because I want to change the status quo. Any Debate coach will tell you that when your only reason for change is that you don't like the status quo, you get bad change. There has to be something BETTER AND VIABLE to change to.

I'm not voting for "the black guy" because I believe he has neither the political clout nor the knowledge necessary to lead this country out of the quagmire it's in; and I have heard him say nothing on whom he would appoint in those areas he has no or little knowledge of. Nor has he said anything I found very insightful or productive about education or the environment.

I'm not voting for "the old guy" because he has shown that he WANTS the status quo of more tax breaks for corporations and banks and big oil. They've been trying trickle DOWN for thirty years and it ain't trickled down yet, fuckers. I don't need another warmongering old white guy in office gutting things like education, infrastructure, and social programs so he can pay to get us into yet another war, since he's got a hard-on for Iran and N. Korea the same way Bush did for Iraq.

I'm not voting for most of my senatorial and representative candidates for exactly the same reasons. I'm not voting for someone I don't support on the badly formed reasoning of "lesser of two evils" or "time for a change"

Don't hand me platitudes about write-in candidates, or political activism; or whine to me about social responsibility, or not having a right to complain because I didn't vote. The constitution of this nation GUARANTEES me the right to complain all I fucking want! My family and friends have fought FOR those rights, and were I not disabled, I'd probably be in the military as well.

So Don't call me a bad American, because I've made a better rationalized choice than the VAST majority of peons going to the polls tomorrow blindly believing or hoping they're voting for a "change" because that's what the pretty tv commercials for both candidates say. I'm a very well informed non-voter who's spent time studying the issues and has CHOSEN to not stain my own dignity by casting a ballot for people I can't, in good conscience, support.

And as a parting thought or two:

"If voting changed anything, they would make it illegal." Emma Goldman

"Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job." Douglas Adams

(and maybe for some free publicity )

I'm currently rereleasing "Kim Possible: The Darkness Without" on my fanfiction.net page [link] The challenge, should you choose to accept it is to depict one of the OC's from the story. You can pick from either the original release form or the new redux chapters, there's no difference on the OC's or their major descriptions.

The OC's are:

Sara Smith, The Green Wraith

Dr. Al Norm, Global Justice's rogue stats man

Abbey Norm, the alterna-chick assistant/love interest

Gregor "Iceman" Lubinski, Russian mafia and arms dealer.

Agent Slim, the long-suffering bean pole agent

Agent Stout, Slim's partner, also known as "the late agent Stout"

Susan Justice, Director Will Du's blonde bulldog

Dr Stan Oblongotta, Anne's friend turned detractor

Ya know, I didn't realize there were that many OC's in TDW

Anyway, guidelines are pretty simple. Use your imagination, and have fun! They can be character drawings, ID's/trading cards, scenes from the story, almost anything...

Only "rule" is that if you draw Sara in her armor, must also credit for the design.

If you want to do these, feel free, just link me and let me know so I can add you to the journal, as well as link your art in the actually story as it is released in redux form. If you have questions, note me and I'll do my best to answer them. ~note

If anyone actually accepts the challenge?
1.) I'll be pleasantly surprised
2.)
This is a response to the recent culling of fan-art based erotica (some of it not even classed as erotica) here on Deviant Art.

Many of you have followed the so-called "ice-cream cone banning" of the artist Levelord for his Kim Possible based fanarts depicting a relationship between the two main characters of the series.

Obviously I'm pretty interested considering these are also the subjects of some of my arts and fics, but the topic really goes to a wider issue.

It was explained to me recently, that the official reasoning for the banning of material such as depicted in Levelord's material is explained in the journal of While I can understand with, and in some cases agree with, the rational behind the policy, I can't agree with its haphazard and lazier-faire enforcement.

1.) This nifty little policy appears NO WHERE in the site's official rules for posting art. I should not need to search out every Moderator's personal page/journal and then construct from that my own compendium and interpretation on the official policies of posting material on a site. There's vague reference to "inappropriate material," in the AUP section of the website, but this flies squarely under the banner of "unwritten rules" which are inherently flawed because if they are unwritten in a media where there's no such thing as body-language, verbal cues, or wink-wink-nudge-nudge, they essentially don't exist. It also makes it easier for any site such as DA to enforce or not enforce them based on however the current political/community winds are blowing.

2.) The second, and more debatable point being that, as has been discussed in some artists circles , the majority of KP fan art does not depict child porn, because the main characters (with the exception of WADE and JOSS) are already of legal age in the vast majority of places that would be viewing this art. We're not talking about characters from a series that exist in a vacuum, but ones who age throughout the progression of the series.

I guess, in short, I think DA needs to clean their own house and start writing a better AUP before they start demanding their users follow it. Expecting all users to read the individual blogs of each DA moderator to have a clear understanding of the rules is catch 22 at best, and outright favoritism and enforcement avoidance at worst. I'm not asking them for a 90,000 word AUP with every conceivable violation clearly spelled out explicitly, but they could at least put a more clear definition on their "Official AUP" about what does and does not constitute pornography, with a simple line that says something like "the subjects of cartoons, comics, and other media targeted towards children (known as fan art) will not be accepted if they contain clear sexual intent."

Is a little clarity that much to ask?

Between relatives visiting; first memorial day weekend, then mom coming out for a visit and getting sick, then her giving ME her cold, then BOTH household cars breaking within two days of each other ( one fuel system probs, the other electrical probs)

Lots to keep me away from writing either my KP fic, or my usual RP's. It didn't help that right before all of this I scrapped the drafts of chapters 12-15 of Darkness Without to try them in a different direction, and one of my beta-editors dropping off the map.

So I have part 13 redux in draft, but it still seems to be missing an intangible something. (well if it were tangible I'd know what it is and it could be put in there right?)

Anyways, here I am... if anyone wants a beta eyeballing of part 13 redux, let me know. (maybe you can spy what I am missing) I'll be prowling the boards and trying to figure out what I am missing and randomly making quips as usual

Muse finally told me how "The Darkness Within" is going to end. Look for it to end at chapter 16 unless Muse decides I really need to padd it out more. (I try not to let my chapters go much past 3500 words total, otherwise I find it can get monotonous to read)

Oh, and for any who've asked (counts them on one hand)

since my little corner of DA gets virtually no traffic and I don't post that often, I don't know how to do stamps, clubs, shoutouts, etc...

not that I don't want to learn.. I just don't know how and it's not been much of an issue so far since I dun get much click traffic

Okay, sorry that they're two days, late... but here they are.

Now, just like it says if you're interested in reading part 1, I normally don't write fan fictions, so I'm not sure, till other people who watch the series this is based on read it, how well I've captured them.

I already have parts 3 and 4 complete and they are being edited right now... I'm starting part 5 this evening... I have a pretty good muse right now, so these are pretty much writing themselves...

If you like it, Please tell others! I'm not sure how long I will go with this, since I have dozens of ideas, too many to comfortably fit into one story. If enough people like it I'll stretch it a bit, maybe even craft a sequel. if no one says they enjoy it though, don't expect me to put a lot more effort into it... this is a work of fiction for others to read, not my private journal under lock and key.

Special thanks go out to Wolfschlitzen [link] for his early feedback (yeah, you can all be jealous, he got a sneak preview)

oh, and if anyone can plase help me get in touch with the webmasters at fanfiction.net? I can't seem to get registered there to save my life.

My little road warrior needs stickers! Its covered with large blank silver surfaces just begging for Anarchy symbols, geekish sayings, and other signs of my generations technophilia. So as I vector up some things (I'm thinking maybe a variation of my Picnic shit design) I'll post em up here.

of course I don't intend to do them ON my laptop.. I'm not enough of a masochist to try to do vector art on a 2"X3" Synaptics touchpad while operating on battery, even if the acer does have a Pentium duo mobile and a gig of rm to toy with
