With a new breath on my life for a summing of the previous plot, I have new chapters coming, including interactive decisions by character creators. A lot on the Geography, History and Imagery of Engelsain will be developped within the tale.
Because I am not fond of appendixes, I will make an effort to make the tale as understandable as possible.

Hello everybody!

It's pretty notorious how little I posted these last weeks.

These last weeks included a small vacation back in Portugal, an unexpected audition for a modern and contemporary dance company in a city 110km north of Lisbon(Which I "nailed") and several family health issues.

All of this has turned my life upside down... I have to hurry back to Portugal because the Dance Company can't wait much longer due to their performances calendar; and a sweet great-aunt has passed besides other serious problems that are afflicting a close cousin, and
also my best friend.

I am now packing boxes with my "little" life and I am saying my goodbyes to the best housemates a guy could get.[link]
A house consisting of several kinds of artists and all of them totally nuts(I'm included)

The one who would be considered sane, Jannes, is no longer such because we drove him nuts!

So this is why I have been posting and uploading so little.
Don't know if and when I will upload new images, journals or photos.

BUt until I do, I will keep on watching and commenting.

biggest hugs
and wishes of happiness to each who read this...

It’s as if throughout all these years Life had been playing &#147iggy in the middle” with me as the piggy, and I still tried to catch the evading ball...

But there seems to have been a mix of games, and I have found myself blindfolded and hearing mocking laughter all around meÂ

I didn’t catch any ball

I can’t take the blindfold off

and the mocking laughter only ceases when I fall asleep

goodnight, thenÂ

I wonder how and why I find myself amongst them...

This sadness I feel inside of me
and all the grief i have been carrying all my life...

everyone, each of us has it...each of us carries their own grief and heavy burdens, their own sadness.

I wonder.

I wonder if, being such a common situation- that each of us has their own burden and sadnesses- I wonder if there is any chance we can help each other in being at least less unhappy...making it easier where it can be made easier and helping strengthen where it needs more strength...
I just wonder...

Hello, anybody who bothers to read my journal...

*update*
I actually tried to renew my subscription today...but for some reason the process failed and MY money was debitted from my bank...funny isn't it?*end of update*

*new update*

Still no answer from anybody.

I wonder if I were the one owing something to the site, how slowly or benevolent and patient would they be...

...sigh... *end of second update*

*third update*
I finally got some reactions from those who could do something to help me and hopefully, it's a matte of time until the situation is solved; whether by getting my subscription renewed or the less desirable solution of getting my money back.

is always so nice and helpful, I must bow and thank her, as she always get some things moving.
I believe she's a good agent in keeping good relations between users and staff of the site/community.

*end of third update*

Today my subscription ends, along with some privileges in dA.

I might eventually get another one, but it's not in the near vicinity.

To those who actively share this great community with me, to those who actually keep track at my [slow] but inevitable progress, and those who so positively have been contributing to my growth...I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Expect new and frequent deviations

Hello everybody!

Since my beginning here at DeviantArt I've been constantly trying to push myself forward to higher quality deviations and commiting myself to learn as much as possible and I have been looking at my whole gallery and I am pleased to recognize progress.

Far from being at the level I wish to achieve I am happy to be in the process of learning and evolving in that direction.

Firstly I would like to share with all of you some of the artists I look up to for the most various reasons and from whom I find a lot to learn from. So in case you're interested here's a small list of those deviants:

[link] [link] [link] [link] [link] [link] [link]

and a lot more... but these should already give you an eye-full

The second subject concerns my own evolution.
I've been unofficially taking comissions so I can challenge myself in putting whatever skills I have into practice.
Now, I want to do it officially

What I would like those who are interested to do is to either comment here or note me with dtailed descriptions of comissions they would like me to do/ find interesting and challenging for me.

I'll be taking one per week at the beginning and we'll see how it goes from then on

I'll leave you to your stuff now... thanks for watching, visiting reading and commenting on my stuff. It does indeed mean so much to me

and rock!

why payed work is so important...

I found this in -->'s journal. And I think this is really important to anyone who's interested in being an artist. I've not been able to find the author.
-------------------------
Every day, there are more and more Craigs List posts seeking “artists” for everything from auto graphics to comic books to corporate logo designs. More people are finding themselves in need of some form of illustrative service.

But what they’re NOT doing, unfortunately, is realizing how rare someone with these particular talents can be.

To those who are “seeking artists”, let me ask you; How many people do you know, personally, with the talent and skill to perform the services you need? A dozen? Five? One? …none?

More than likely, you don’t know any. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be posting on craigslist to find them.

And this is not really a surprise.

In this country, there are almost twice as many neurosurgeons as there are professional illustrators. There are eleven times as many certified mechanics. There are SEVENTY times as many people in the IT field.

So, given that they are less rare, and therefore less in demand, would it make sense to ask your mechanic to work on your car for free? Would you look him in the eye, with a straight face, and tell him that his compensation would be the ability to have his work shown to others as you drive down the street?

Would you offer a neurosurgeon the “opportunity” to add your name to his resume as payment for removing that pesky tumor? (Maybe you could offer him “a few bucks” for “materials”. What a deal!)

Would you be able to seriously even CONSIDER offering your web hosting service the chance to have people see their work, by viewing your website, as their payment for hosting you?

If you answered “yes” to ANY of the above, you’re obviously insane. If you answered “no”, then kudos to you for living in the real world.

But then tell me… why would you think it is okay to live out the same, delusional, ridiculous fantasy when seeking someone whose abilities are even less in supply than these folks?

Graphic artists, illustrators, painters, etc., are skilled tradesmen. As such, to consider them as, or deal with them as, anything less than professionals fully deserving of your respect is both insulting and a bad reflection on you as a sane, reasonable person. In short, it makes you look like a twit.

A few things you need to know;

1. It is not a “great opportunity” for an artist to have his work seen on your car/’zine/website/bedroom wall, etc. It IS a “great opportunity” for YOU to have their work there.

2. It is not clever to seek a “student” or “beginner” in an attempt to get work for free. It’s ignorant and insulting. They may be “students”, but that does not mean they don’t deserve to be paid for their hard work. You were a “student” once, too. Would you have taken that job at McDonalds with no pay, because you were learning essential job skills for the real world? Yes, your proposition it JUST as stupid.

3. The chance to have their name on something that is going to be seen by other people, whether it’s one or one million, is NOT a valid enticement. Neither is the right to add that work to their “portfolio”. They get to do those things ANYWAY, after being paid as they should. It’s not compensation. It’s their right, and it’s a given.

4. Stop thinking that you’re giving them some great chance to work. Once they skip over your silly ad, as they should, the next ad is usually for someone who lives in the real world, and as such, will pay them. There are far more jobs needing these skills than there are people who possess these skills.

5. Students DO need “experience”. But they do NOT need to get it by giving their work away. In fact, this does not even offer them the experience they need. Anyone who will not/can not pay them is obviously the type of person or business they should be ashamed to have on their resume anyway. Do you think professional contractors list the “experience” they got while nailing down a loose step at their grandmother’s house when they were seventeen?

If you your company or gig was worth listing as desired experience, it would be able to pay for the services it received. The only experience they will get doing free work for you is a lesson learned in what kinds of scrubs they should not lower themselves to deal with.

6. (This one is FOR the artists out there, please pay attention.) Some will ask you to “submit work for consideration”. They may even be posing as some sort of “contest”. These are almost always scams. They will take the work submitted by many artists seeking to win the “contest”, or be “chosen” for the gig, and find what they like most. They will then usuall...

and one of the things I realized, concerning the art one produces and all and not only that, was....

if you generally don't like the outcome of what you're doing, you have to make important choices like assuming and coming forth with stuff that really concerns your goals as an artist or a human being....

I always find it wise to look at work of people I admire and whose level I'd like to achieve and compare my work with theirs...sometimes I can do it quite objectively, some times not....

Mior

The wedding had been celebrated.
Everybody was having fun, enjoying the drinks and the day-off their daily works, jobs and business. Jordan took an apple and left, unnoticed, so he thought.
He had come once again.
Walking down the stairs to his father’s carpentry, he could hear the fading partying sounds and reflected.
He had always felt different and apart from the rest of his family, his age lings, his neighbors and even their superstition and faith. He knew exactly why.
Years ago, as a child, he had met an old man who seemed to know so much. Somehow he didn’t seem to be scarred by the weight of age.
And now, as thirteen year old Jordan was walking down all the steps to the harbor, loving every inch of the sight, with the dark walls of the mountains quieting down the powerful waterfalls; the pine trees were lulling to the soft evening breeze and the lower city lights reflected like gold and bronze on the dark waters, he couldn’t help but remember his few encounters with that old and gentle man, Lord Godfred.
He couldn’t help but feel guilty for wanting to be in places so different from his home.
He felt guilty because he loved helping his father craft stools, chairs, tables, chests, beds and even boats for their folk to go fishing in the great lake below their towns.
With him, while doing whichever piece to a determinate family, Remnor – his father – would tell him about the history of their people, of how that family had suffered before the comfortable and safe years of the Reign of the Twin Cities. Remnor would show him how deep his love for his people was and how intense was his feeling of belonging when he was working on a piece or a set.
To his father, delivering a finished job was, somehow, becoming a part of that family or house.
Jordan felt guilty because he loved staying up to closing time at the Inn bar and bakery, where his mother Dania worked. He loved escorting her home, feeling very manly and honorable. They would often stop on their way up home to watch the whales gather by the harbors and they would be delighted as the spurts of water would rush up. His mother would tell him different stories of whales that had guided lost or unconscious fishermen back to Mior. He had learned from her the reason why their fishermen would go for tuna, codfish, shrimp and swordfish without touching or menacing their gigantic guardians. But there was something he secretly loved even more about staying late at the Inn, The Bronze Whale.
He enjoyed listening to the sunset haired owner and bard of the place. She was generous with her voice and the legends she would tell of far away times and lands, of foreign people and wars, of creatures such as giant eagles – which he loved the most – and even dragons, which strangely filled his heart with a certain kind of longing.
Dania would patiently wait for Rimeva to end her tales and take her son back home. She would always remind him those were tales and not history, like the history she and his father taught him as a traditional legacy of their folk.
Once, Dania had told him why she was the one who had told him of the fishermen’s rescue. It was because he father was a fisherman and her mother worked as her mother had for Rimeva’s mother.
Jordan felt guilty because he loved helping his brother when he asked him to go fishing with him. How they enjoyed swimming with the dolphins and, sometimes, how they were moved by the colossal presence of the whales with their eerie songs and too deep a gaze. Jake had just married the sweet and foreign Sianna, in many ways looking like Rimeva, as if from the same country. And how he had loved learning how to speak and write his dialect of the land’s common language. She had been even more generous to teach her own beautiful and sinuous language, also the writings – “You might need it one day, Wanderer.” – She would always say at the end of the lesson; Elven it was. He loved writing reports on his musings with his friends Genaro and Giuliano, from West Mior; he loved to accomplish his efforts in translating his family and folk’s tales into Elven and Sianna was growing prouder and fond of him.
One day she told him she lived in one of the houses of the bridge because it reminded her of home; even though she preferred living in Mior, away from the complexity and uncertainty of her own family. She was some kind of priestess and she would not leave Mior unless she and her love Jake would want to.
Jake and Sianna had recently gathered a ship building company and had decided to marry after the second sell.
Jordan also loved his sister in law and he felt guilty because all of them would take one day of the week, and an evening, to dine at Sianna’s place and they would all hug a talk. It was hard to keep compatible schedules to feed the family.
And Lord Godfred had come once again.
The first time he had...

Orbunn was a quiet village some miles south of the big temple of Roit-Unghaar. Quiet except for the evenings, where joy and party would be sumptuous, for the lumberjacks and hunters would have returned from their labor and had done their share in providing for the village. They would join in Albrecht’s tavern and have beer, ham and bread. And lots of songs and laughing. Albrecht’s wife was in bed, taken by some sort of disease after her miscarriage, so he had his son Nev and her brother Ben come and help him at the tavern.
Every night, young Ben would go to Gista’s room and pray for her, giving her a soft kiss on her forehead before going home with his eyes filled with tears.
Nev would take him to the town center and then go back to finish up cleaning and tiding up the common area of the tavern, The Howling Moon.
Tonight his father seemed to be a little bit more taken by his own liquor than usual but Nev assumed a good night sleep would only bring a headache and some morning grumpiness. So, Nev kept on swiping the floor and piling the chairs upside down on the tables.
When he finished up the lounge, by the window, he stopped, scrubbing the sweat from his forehead with his sleeve and taking a look outside. “It seems like snow is coming again now…” he was glad he could sit by a fireplace after work, enjoying its smells and warmth.
Everything was silent now and even though he was quite tired, Nev felt some peace and he too directed a prayer from his heart to his mother’s health. Snow would always calm him down.
“Nev.” His father called, from behind the counter, his voice affected by the drink.
“Come here son, your father is in a sorry mood tonight.”
Nev smiled gently and moved to help his father, as he assumed he would have to help him up the stairs to the room where Albrecht was now sleeping.
“Let’s go dad, up to your room.”
“No, son, tonight I’ll stay downstairs, take me to yours. I’m too tired.”
Nev didn’t mind that, after all he could sleep upstairs where the bedrooms were a little warmer.
He only felt it was strange how his father was holding his shoulders a little too tight

Hi everybody,

as I had promised the updates have come and soon more of the story and the pictures will be arriving again, but now dreadful times are comings as well...

The Dragons of evil kind have all been waking from their long sleep... the first ones to wake up were the black ones, three hundred years before the current action. but now, all the others are feeling the hunger for blood and so much more.... the land will not only see the powers of darkness invade and terrorize and pillage but now it's going to become a fight for survival for never had it been imagined that an army of evil dragons would ever assemble to claim possesion of all of the north continent!

So dear readers, the time has come for you to take care of your characters and provide for their survival...

because for one reason or another, people will start falling and dying and there's no telling who will manage to face the Calamity coming and fight for the hope of peace and survival....

And for those who might feel shy in creating their characters in the story, this might be the right time to come forth with yours... we never know if you are going to incarnate a foe of humanoid races protecting their lands, or of the Draconic factions coming to claim their sleep lost territories...

Enjoy the most as we begin to enter the Engelsain tales second phase.

Lienepyr... Melinda

Lienepyr felt fatigue. She had been reviewing the last of a pile of scrolls. In it was written a summary of the council she had just concluded.
The lords and knights were still leaving the chamber. Some were obviously not pleased with the sudden ending, and some seemed to patiently understand there was a strong reason for that.
All elven leaders had been present in this council, except for the high-priestess Luana.
The leader of the Druids, the leader of the Bards, the leader of the Swords and Bows, the leader of the Faiths, and the leader of each and every clan, under the crown of Gronmerthill.
Especially for this council, there were leaders of each tribe of the Mountain clans.
Before taking this council, Lienepyr hadn’t taken any rest for two days, meeting with architects and druids and mages, to receive advice whether to enlarge the city of Gronmerthill or to grant the Snowy Mountain clans some territory and help them build their new hometown.
During the meeting that had now ended, some of the resident nobles were against a new elven city because they welcomed the outer clans to Gronmerthill as their own, as happened to any resident from Muirlen, or any elven citizen or descendant from Kenay-Fall.
Some were in favor of a new elven city, because these clans were still entitled their particular sovereignty and autonomy. Besides, a young noble advised, “It would prove itself far too expensive and even politically controversial to maintain their titles where they had little use for them now. And since they have earned them throughout the ages, since then, it seems to be unfair that besides being refugees, the must be degraded of their generations achievements.”
Lienepyr had acknowledged the young noble’s wisdom, but all had to be heard before reaching a decision.
A few were against them coming to Gronmerthill Mountain at all, raising some uncomfortable and seemingly unreasonable voices against “those who hadn’t stood by the elven race and its home, six hundred and seventy years ago, when those elves allied with dwarves to cleanse and protect the caves and mountains of Hierac-Thull. For Urienveil, they tainted themselves with dwarves!”
Then Lienepyr nodded silently, but said almost thinking aloud: “Yet, these dwarves have been commercial connections and, at times, even defenders of causes dear only to our hearts. No, dear brother, there is no tainting in making an allegiance with such bold hearted people. In fact, it might need to be reaffirmed sooner than we could all wish.”
Some voices were outraged by what both Count of the Northern Wall and the queen had said. And so a loud argument began, and it seemed to Lienepyr they were almost out of their minds. She had to intervene, once again.
“The moods have to settle down, and even though a historical enlightenment is not convenient at the moment, I must remind everyone that those dwarves sacrificed themselves almost entirely so that our own brothers, sisters and ancestors would not perish in a land not their own.”
She also reminded the council that it was for honor to those defenders and no contempt for the home of Gronmerthill that those who fought alongside the Dwarven Clans decided to stay and to make their home in Hierac – Thull. Their own high priestess joined them before one year had passed, so they would never feel like their roots had somehow been lost.
As no one had any reason or motive to publicly undermine the high priestess’ authority, everyone calmed down.
Then, there were also a few, though fewer, who thought it would be convenient to have them, back at Gronmerthill, and to put them under the noble houses resident in the capital.
More arguments rose and Lienepyr stood up and used her command voice.
“ENOUGH! You are all behaving like drunken men! These are our brothers we are talking about!” She took a deep breath, and taming her fury, she addressed the knight who had just made the statement that had caused such uproar.
Gesturing for everyone else to settle down, Lienepyr asked “And what do you mean by under the noble houses of the capital, Ferthenas?”
Ferthenas was the firstborn of the house of Ganethir, one of the most ancient, yet unstable, of elven families in Gronmerthill. His bright blond hair was caught in a tight pony-tail; his noble clothing was shinning, showing nothing close to a sign of usefulness in war, help or defense of Gronmerthill and its people.
He was quite calm, showing an extreme indifference, if not despise towards the queen herself.
“Your highness, how is it you do not see such a clear need? I do believe our brothers should be welcome in Gronmerthill, but they should also strive to regain the titles the have given up on.” Ferthenas took a glance at those who defended the snowy clans had abandoned Gronmerthill, and these one seemed to be reflecting on his words.<b...

Hawrry and Genma

As they reached a common step, halfway up or down, Hawrry bowed slightly and friendly to this intriguing looking boy, being surprised by his immediate and geometric bow. The boy - was he a boy or was he like the elves, ageless in features? Well, he never took his eyes off Hawrry’s.
Yet, he too seemed friendly.
For a second, they both watched each other, immerse in their own thoughts.
Hawrry was delighted.
How different they could be in the way they acknowledged each other and, still, they did it with a common gesture. The boy’s poise was very dignified and alert.
This boy may be no noble, but the re is nobility in him, that’s certain – Hawrry reflected – ah, the many things one can learn from another just by watching.
But the young one’s expression had shifted to an inquisitive one and Hawrry realized he had been staring in silence for too long.

After replying the man’s bow with his prompt one, Genma smiled, because it was clear both of them had friendly intentions, if there were any to think of.
But now this red haired man was smiling with a dreamy kind of look to him, scratching his hairy chin with one of his hands.
Genma started wondering about whatever thought had entangles this one’s attention, but he had taken no notice and thus kept on watching vaguely while scratching his chin.
Genma felt a bit awkward and shifted his weight a little, wondering if this apparent warrior was at all well in his head.
This he seemed to notice, somehow, and he moved with embarrassment but swiftly introduced himself. He gestured to his chest and said a word:
“Hawrry.”
Genma paused for a second and thought it might be possible this man knew a bit of the elven language that the sweet queen had taught him through their minds exchange.
“Hello Hawrry, my name is Genma and we both seem to be a little out of our own environment.” Then he offered a deeper bow, this one prevented him from seeing the absolute surprise that fell down Hawrry’s face.
Gladly, Hawrry recovered from it and answered in the same language his wife and elven friends had taught him.
“What a nice fact that we both learnt this foreign tongue. It is now common to us.” He put his arm around the boys shoulder and joyfully suggested “Would you care to walk with me along the construction site up that road over there?”; he pointed towards the huge square clearing he had seen before.
Genma smiled and nodded and chatting they went on, learning of how they had met this people and learned their language. Genma wouldn’t refer to his past and Hawrry didn’t push it until the boy felt more comfortable and confident about it.
While they arrived at the spot, Genma fell silent and his gaze seemed to be fixed somewhere in the distant sky.
Hawrry was distracted by something else. The voices of Melinda and the queen Lienepyr were approaching in a rush.

Genma

All of the children had been taken care of and after tending to some worn out animals that had somehow been brought up the mountains; Genma went back to the palace where the queen had given him the honorable assignment.
The incident with the xenophobe young ling had been dealt with but had produced a disturbing echo in Genma’s mind.
Sitting on the main stairs outside seemed to be a good choice. There was the place he felt was ideal for his meditation.

Genma had always felt apart.
And now, watching those foreign people going about their business as if he had never been there reminded him of home.
Far away, in the middle of the foggy east, his village lay, secluded in the forest and in the mountains so much like this enchanting city, with its eerie elven populace.
At home he was home, but back home his people had denied him acknowledgement. He was a renegade. Underage. Locked to the wise will of his hokage. The closest he would feel to being protected.
Genma’s father had failed to deliver an important message to an ally village that was going to be attacked by Matsukoki, a greedy leader.
His father had died when Genma was six. He had died in the service of his village, his people; leaving his mission incomplete dying at the hands of the one he was going to warn their neighbors about. Both his father and many of the villagers were slaughtered.
Now, according to the rule of both allied villages, Genma’s family was stained by the blood of the innocent that had perished.
He had no one else but his father, who had given him a heavy burden for a legacy.
His name was forbidden in the streets except for the hokage.
People started avoiding his look, at first feeling awkward and uneasy themselves; but not long after Genma found himself in poverty and as alone as an oasis in a desert.
He started following the fishermen and learning from afar. His father had a spear and a net in a bag behind the hut’s door.
Genma had been living on fruit and water for three months after his father had died, when he finally started fishing successfully. He had learned how to fence for his survival. He no longer depended on the scarce and ashamed help of kinder hearted villagers, or the trees for his food.
Instead, he started learning how to cook the different fish and also which fruit would taste nice with a certain fish.
Not yet seven and he was surviving on his own. Still, no one would acknowledge him or support his efforts.
He wouldn’t know what that was anyway; he was far busier taking care of fishing and cooking his simple meals, of cutting wood for the fireplace in the upcoming winter.
He started learning the ways of the ranger, while cleaning the forest grounds during the summer. That would prevent dangerous fires, provide wood and keep the paths and tracks clear.
It was during one of these mornings of cleaning that he saw the hokage hunting by himself. He was so scared he couldn’t move. And as the hokage hunted and halted, Genma dived into a bush, hoping not to be detected or found.
He was fearful that the hokage would punish him for disturbing his hunt. And he didn’t want to endure anymore hardship than all he was already going through.
Instead, he watched carefully as the leader of the village pulled the hard string without hesitation and released the arrow from his bow. Not even a breath later Genma heard a distant thumping sound – a flawless kill.
“Come, Genma, out of the bush! Help me take our hunt back to the village as you’ve helped me hunt it.”
Genma was awestruck. His jaw had dropped and he couldn’t even believe the hokage had addressed him by his name.
“Come on, now, do you want other beasts to take that mighty deer as a prize for the hunting we did?”
The hokage had a sense of humor? But he had helped in nothing except for possibly distracting the hokage or even scaring off the prey.
“Out of the bush I call you, child. It is enough to see your bottom hanging out there. Now raise the rest and help me carry the deer, or would you rather me shooting you too?”
Genma rushed to rise, tumbling and falling over the bush; but he shyly stood up, fixing his gaze on the ground, apologetically.
“In the forest, if you only look at your feet you won’t see your prey escaping, though you might hear where your own hunter comes from.”
Genma was sweating with shame and fear, in spite of the kind tone the hokage was using to address him. He lifted his gaze to where he assumed the prey should be laying dead.
The hokage pulled him, placing his hand on Genma’s shoulder and directing him towards the dear.
“You know son, this was one of the first things my master told and taught me, when first I began my training to one day try to take a place as a hokage.” And as they reached the animal that seemed more like it was resting, “and by...

Gronmerthill - Hawrry

There was a form of anger, closing rage, brewing up inside Melinda, Hawrry could just feel it.
Both druids to whom they had taken the wounded Tanariel had immediately and abruptly dismissed them.
Lienepyr was very busy with the arrangements of the new section of Gronmerthill, for they knew there was a debate in court concerning whether to increase the capital city or to allow the Snowy Mountain Clans to choose another place in the table-mountain to build a forth Elven city.
Hawrry knew quite well that this and the fact that Luana and Godfred were to be accounted for was disturbing Melinda’s mind.
He had already learned that her bond to her people was greater and deeper than he could imagine, and that’s why she seemed to be so troubled in the last days.
She seemed to take on herself the pain and losses of her kin. And now she resembled a wounded lioness, ready to strike back to protect her children.
Even if she didn’t mind, care or want, she had the fiber and resolve of a queen.
At leas that he could now see from afar, as he watched her help the Snowy Mountain Clans move up the hills already inside the powerful protective spell known as Mithal.
As in his former visits he found himself spare, and with spare time he would do what he could barely do in his southern home of Engelsain: he would study.
There was a certain relief in seeing Melinda in Gronmerthill, amongst her family and clan. He knew she missed them much and he had already felt that a return, even if brief, was due. He was glad to see that she was honored to be of use and service to her people and he turned, heading for the library where he would find the great maps of the globe. So many lands that went far beyond Inkmaar, or the Northern Snowy Mountains. Two years before he learned about the vast table-mountain where the nation of Gronmerthill lay. Its three different cities; Gronmerthill the capital, so similar to human cities yet so different at he same time; Gawevanil, the island of the druids, where the most powerful of elven druids and rangers were taught; Timiroleen, the city of the bards and where the fighters, knights and all the colleges of the elves were set.
In the yesteryear, he learned of the rivers in and around Gronmerthill; of so many villages, almost hidden, in the slopes of the Cloudy Mountain; of some of the ways and paths of the Mysterious Forest as well as of the northern margins the inner sea, called Elay by humans and Mownwind by elves.
Now, Hawrry was thrilled to learn more, almost like a child, from master Ezarthim, unless he was also busy with the refugees from the East. Then he would have little to do except moving out of the way of the refugees and those tending to their needs.
He had never seen those many elves bustling like bees in a hive.
It had always seemed to him that this race would always take ages to get anything done, which annoyed humans and even dwarves alike, because elves live ages. But now, as only rarely seen, they were using their speed and agility to give homes t their homeless, care to those in needs and to assemble an odd sight. A clearing was being turned into a square three miles around.
The ways of the elves were indeed strange, for what was the use of such a huge paved free space. He could only wonder.
Hoping to find Ezarthim diving into scrolls and heavy books Hawrry walked down the three underground levels to the library.
However, the library was closed and the glowing runes were sealing it.
Hawrry was now feeling absolutely useless.
In Enoire-Lum he was necessary; he was an asset to the whole kingdom of Engelsain; he had even helped in the defense of Marinea, when the Vikings and pirates of South-Inkmaar had come to scare and pillage and take over. There he met his love Melinda and was rescued by her friends Tanariel and Aujir.
Aujir was the best humored elf he had ever met. And even though Hawrry had almost died fighting for a city not his own, he had been of use.
This feeling of impotence and uselessness was biting his own marrow and so he rushed up the stairs and went back to the palace. He would find the queen or the or one of the few nobles who didn’t despise for being human.

Bacca thought he was stronger somehow. He felt very light and agile, and so he went out of the Inn singing one of his tunes of sunrise.

By the dawning light
I rise to my new way

Wondering what I might

Fulfil in this day

With each step I take

Even if I’m lonely

A new path I make

One I’ve chosen freely

By the dawning light

A new chance has come

And the morning’s bright

I know that I’m home

On the desert’s dune

Or the forests lake

Here I lay my rune

Anywhere I wake

Whether high or low

Whoever I meet

In the winter’s snow

Or the summer heat

By the dawning light

A new chance has come

And the morning’s bright

I know that I’m home

By the dawning light

There is much to learn

How good in my sight

How the world will turn

By the dawning light

By the dawning light...

The street was as beautiful as a dream, and everywhere is voice echoed lightly against the few walls and trees around.

Some elves on the way enjoyed the sound of his voice or were caught by the melody of what he sang and turned their heads, subtly smiling as the young Bacca crossed town.

Bacca was feeling more and more confident in his decision to go to Gronmerthill, took it what it would take to get there.

And everywhere everything seemed well enough for a grand day. And there they were, waiting for him. Nethur was standing and looking at Bacca, seemingly puzzled about something.

Nophar was thinking and apparently unaware of his approach, her hand touching her forehead.

Bacca had only now realized, that none of them were moving, that no sound was being produced except for his breath and steps on the smooth pavement; not even any wind would move their hair, and Nethur kept on looking straight into his direction puzzled about something. Bacca still tried to call Nethur but no sound came from his mouth now, actually he felt something becoming numb in his vocal cords and his tongue and he desperately grabbed his own throat in a useless attempt to stop whatever evil was causing this. He knelled with tears falling from his eyes and turned his head towards the subtle sound of a soft but vigorous laughter.

A young kid, shorter than him was standing proudly looking down on him. Laughing with almost quiet amusement to his attempts of releasing his voice.

Bacca was desperately opening his mouth with his tears flooding his cheeks. There was no chance he would be able to charm this kid into becoming friendly.

“And what makes you think I am a kid? You’re a sad believer, and you believe your eyes only, tsc tsc, one with your learnings should know so much better than that.”

Bacca managed to look back at Nophar and he could see she was still paralyzed somehow, but that her eyes were in effort and looking angrily at the kid.

“By the dawning light you were caught in your own charms and into my web I brought you” – giggled the kid, and then he looked at Bacca with a strange angle, almost measuring him anew. A sudden surge of light came through his eyes and before Bacca could even react, every sound became distant and then silent as everything was becoming part of the same salmon coloured light that into white unconsciousness took the half elf.

“Hourin!!” Nophar yelled as the paralyzing enchantment was broken by the apparent child. He showed nothing else but amusement. He almost didn’t look at her as he was still measuring Bacca with a relative interest.

Nethur approached the body and tried to see if he was still alive, which he signaled as affirmative to his sister.

“Nophy, young girl, I have had my fun amongst you and this ...promise of a creature. Maybe you’ll manage to find me again in the forest and maybe ...maybe you’ll know what it is I have done here. Yes, dear, you are invited so you may come into my territory to cross and reach closer to your homeland.”

Gronmerthill

Lienepyr, Luana, Genma

A great hustle lay around Gronmerthill. Even though there was a certain sadness in exile, all elves were happy that so many clans were gathering in their Northern Engelsain home. And so, many of them helped the arriving settle in tents that would soon be substituted by bungalows. Each leader of a group was taken to the royal palace to report on their trip and the state of their clan or group.

Lienepyr, the queen, was very concerned and eager to help all of her kind.

They were not exactly exhausted by the climb to Gronmerthill, because they were used to the mountains near Hierac-Thull. But one could perceive weariness and a certain sorrow from them.

Lienepyr listened to every report, and none spoke about Luana’s success or failure in closing the temple; none spoke of Godfred beyond the closing of the gates in the Black Spine.

All were dismissed and so many of the citizens of Gronmerthill volunteered to help the newcomers, or the Returnees, as some were already whispering, Lienepyr was consoled to see that her people was kind and sharing. She felt humility in this quality, instead of the pride and arrogance that humans were used to portray elves with...

Not many had her surprised, and recently the eastern boy had surpassed any expectations she could have about humans...

This Genma had such a pure heart and such a raising of honor and inner strength, she was astounded how such a creature as a human, could shine like he did.

She had released him after reading some of his memories. He was now helping the elvin children into the palace.

This was a great honor, because rarely would a human be given the care of so many elven youths, especially in the case of those who, in amount of years had already surpassed Genma’s seventeen springs.

She walked out to balcony where she could oversee him bringing small groups of youths and children into the gardens of the palace.

She was calmed by this image of the human tending peacefully to the task a queen had given him. And then suddenly a commotion around him. A couple of male youths were yelling and apparently insulting him, without any response from him.

She stirred but kept on watching focusing in the corner of the garden where this was taking place.

Genma placed a young child on the lap of an older one and stood still, actually looking at Lienepyr.

And then she understood. He was looking past her. He was emptying his mind. He was subduing any aggressive impulses he could have.

Lienepyr was all the more interested in how this encounter would develop.

Even though the young elf was around sixty five human years, Genma was an opposite. Just beyond the barrier of human adulthood, Genma had already proved a deeper respect for life and a unique maturity which many elves could envy.

One of the girls took all the children to the back of the gardens of the palace, where the other children were having a meal, while the teenager elf stayed along with some of his friends watching at a distance.

He was provoking Genma with words, but his body was coming closer and closer to him.

And still Genma kept on looking beyond Lienepyr, into the realms of his quietness.

The boy pressed on, starting to raise his voice and widening his movements around Genma. The other elves around them became quiet because they also saw the queen in the direction of Genma’s gaze. But the young elf would go on unaware of his anger outburst.

Genma was quietly diverting his gaze from the balcony where Lienepyr was.

He closed his eyes.

The young elf felt despised and moved quickly to strike the human.

As soon as his wrist was about to hit Genma’s neck he seemed to vanish. No sooner than that and the young elf was facing the ground with the same arm twisted in his back under the threat of being broken.

Genma still had an empty gaze but he gestured towards the queen with his free hand, waiting for her word.

Lienepyr caught her dress quietly and intentionally calmly, walking down the stairs on the side of the balcony to the little path that would take her to where Genma and the young one were in the same position.

All the amusement the other young ones had a moment before was now gone, seeing their friend with his face against the dust of the ground, humiliated by a human, and they all felt embarrassed by the arrival of the queen herself.

Lienepyr beckoned to Genma and he moved away, stepping aside.

“Rise young ling.” Her voice was strong and clear. Definite and mildly sharp, as she commanded the teenager to stand up.

“What is your name?”

for everyone

Nophar

Netheur had smiled when she had returned from her office. She trusted her brother to the utmost extent and she also smiled, unsuccessfully concealing her embarrassment.

They had found him, and he had come to them, in Muirlen, out of his own will especially to search for his mother.

Bacca was his name, then. Bacca Naïlo had a funny ring to it but there’s always something funny about half humans. Something funny and at the same time sad.

They were now discussing whether to leave the village and escort Bacca up to Gronmerthill or simple do as they said they would, giving him the tools he would need to find it on his own and make his way as freely as possible.

But their mission had been issued a long time ago, short after the high-priestess return from the lands of the south – Engelsain lands.

They were to find her benjamin and bring him to her as soon as he had achieved a degree of maturity.

They had failed so far, for he had been well hidden, as it seemed. However, coincidences had brought him to them this swiftly, and they had to decide how to proceed.

“Why do you blush with embarrassment, sister?” Netheur asked with a brim of humor.

“It is not embarrassment, Nelgy, it is thrill that our mission is but to be accomplished... and also longing for home.”

Netheur left it at that and asked if she would mind him speaking openly on his views..

“Go on, Nelgy, as long as we’re alone we are always open; now is no time to become shy much less with your own sister” – Nophar gently touched his shoulder but as soon as his uneasy glance reached her hand she took it away.

“Do speak up, brother, let it out.” Nophar was cheerfully smiling showing she had not been taken back by his fear of human touch, and this encouraged him to talk.

“ I would much rather return as soon as possible, for there is much I would like to start doing on my own. Let us take the high-priestess’ child with us as soon as possible. I know I argue for also selfish reasons and for that I confess my shame, but it is also on behalf of his safety. There are countless dangers in the forests after the Hierac Passage, the Great Gate.”

“Are you tired of me already, older brother? Is my company so dull?”

Netheur looked almost painfully at Nophar.

“You know better than anyone how much I treasure your company. You are also one of the few who knows what urges me to return. I am tied against my will, for the time being. And as soon as we accomplish this mission the sooner my vow will be released...”

“I understand you and I am forever thankful for what you have chosen to do for the sake of our blood, our family and our clan. Let us go to the market then, and there we will wait for Bacca and tell him we will join him to our homeland.”

Nophar could feel her brother’s sadness, and she made herself promise to help him in anyway she could. She knew his heart was too free to be tamed by certain rules.

She was one of the privileged with his secret, for she had also found it, by accident. And she had always respected his brother’s will to keep it at that. Maybe soon all would be done so he was free from the weights he had put himself under.

She made an intimate prayer for his courage and pureness of heart.

There was the market and the water fountain from which she would satisfy her thirst.

They would both wait for Bacca there.

Melinda and Hawrry

Godfred had been fighting the dragon over an hour now and Tanariel had to evade from his hiding places more than four times. It would seem the Dark Spine was being sculpted into a new shape, just out of this single combat. What had before been a deep and sharp trench was now a wide clearing of rocks and debris.

The dragon had become infuriated and without patience was now bursting with frequent electric blasts that would push Godfred back. Even though he was still far from being shaken, which was intriguing Tanariel behind his immediate thoughts, he had taken some blows and surprisingly resisted all of them.

Tanariel was convinced that Godfred was holding back, for whatever reason.

And here came another huge blast, that shook the very root of rock Tanariel was squatting on. He was going to fall over the cliff if he didn’t react quick enough. But Tanariel wasn’t resource-less and he used his feline technique to use the falling rocks as steps to diminish his fall and its impact; and as a cat he landed quietly on the ground.

But Godfred was now looking desperately at him, standing right in front of him.

Tanariel felt the heavy breath of his friend become a spell a globe of white light engulfed Tanariel. There everything became silent and almost nothing was visible, except faint silhouettes of the dragon and Godfred fighting each other.

He realized how useless he had been in this single battle and decided to do something useful.

He would use a very special scroll his mother had given to him, a scroll with a spell not many rangers would easily be allowed to use.

He opened it and focused on reading it correctly.

In less than a minute he would be far away, asking old friends to return old favors...

Godfred felt his will weakening to resist the killing of the somewhat young dragon in front of him; he also wouldn’t dare displaying his more secretive powers in front of Tanariel. Although he was a good friend and an already initiated adult elf, he was still far too young to know of Godfred’s abilities.

And at least now, Godfred had insured the young one’s safety. Now he could once again focus entirely in driving the dragon to his exhaustion. He dragon had begun insulting him and cursing him long ago, and Godfred was satisfied to see the dragon was truly far from realizing whom he was fighting against.

But the attacks of this one dragon were becoming annoyingly fierce and more dangerous, which meant he would have to resort to a higher level of magic, and he would have to do so quite soon. Hopefully, the globe of protection would prevent Tanariel from perceiving what was going to happen.

And then the dragon surprised Godfred, unexpectedly jumping backwards and blasting the globe with one single most powerful electric breath.

Godfred felt all of his hairs rising up and even his clothes were now stinging him an his skin was being stretched to its resistance... the globe wouldn’t be able to resist such an attack, Tanariel would be doomed. Immediately after this burst Godfred could see the dragon again, panting but maliciously grinning at him.

There was no sign of Tanariel. He had incinerated his godson. Godfred had no more reason to hide his own wrath and opened his mouth with a terrible roar, a roar that echoed across the dark spine and hurt the dragon, a roar that would scare banshees away.

And then Godfred waved his staff in a final but relentless ice cold blow. An iceberg formed in the middle of the air above the dragon, where this one lay screeching in pain.

The iceberg fell and crushed the dragons skull. Godfred sent a fireball against the core of the iceberg, melting it from within and soon, the body of the dragon was carbonised by itself.

Tanariel was lost.

His dear godson had been killed, defenseless, had been made into nothing.

And Godfred had released his rage. But his godson would not return. Not from this...

Godfred knelled and cried, he had not been able to protect an innocent for all his thousands of ages old... he had failed to protect a sworn one.

He crouched there for a long time.

Hours seemed to go by until he heard new wings flapping, and a voice inside his head gently saying:

“Arise brother and father, ‘tis no time for defeat. Now is not.”

He looked up and saw three gigantic metallic dragons with Luana waving at him.

He cried for her son had not survived to see his mother and once again, Luana would have one of hers die.

One of the dragons gave him his wing and almost unwillingly he climbed and reached the massive scaled shoulder.

They left...

Muirlen
Bacca

Walking into the village, the sunlight dazzled Bacca, coming through the branches of the tall trees.

It was the first time he was entering an elven domain, even if a small one. He had occasionally seen some of the pure breed, with whom he shared only aspects of his appearance, while he lived with his father in the harbour city of Kenay-Fall. And for some reason he had been shy to approach any of them.

It had taken him some years to venture out of his woods, after having argued with his father about his mother and why it was always a mystery who she had been and how she had disappeared.

Before ever trying to see if his father was even alive he had decided to start searching for signs of his mother in the small elven settlement of Muirlen, north-east of Kenay-Fall.

It was a small but well known elven village.

It was famous because it was un-reclusive, as opposed to the usual mysterious ways of most of the elves in the lands of Engelsain.

Even though they were considered open elves they still valued the quietness of the woods and so their village had been built in a small yet thick forest not far from the giant Mountain Gates.

A pleasant emotion dripped into Bacca’s mind and body and he felt like he could relax. As a wizard and a bard he knew this was not entirely spontaneous and he recognized that it was due to a probable guardian spell of some sort.

There was a bench cuddling up in between two wild oaks and he decided to seat there and rest his feet.

Not long after an elven ranger and a female elf wearing a robe and a dark purple cloak approached him formally but somewhat friendly, staying at a safe distance for all of them, but close enough for all to talk and be easily heard.

“ Welcome to Muirlen, young one, my name is Nophar and I am one of the officers of this here town. I would invite you in our village if it were not for the weaponry you carry. Therefore we are both bound to two choices; you can either deliver them to the safe-keep of this ranger and follow me so we can go on introducing you to the village and our own records, or you may refuse to do so and thus be prevented from coming in. Whether you choose one or the other way let me inform you this is merely a non-violence policy we have chosen to take in this sovereign territory of ours.” – Nophar stood quiet, firmly but peacefully looking at Bacca, waiting for him to stand up and reply.

Bacca felt somewhat amused by the situation and he also felt relief for not being unwelcome.

He took one of his journey bags and started tiding his weapons inside, including daggers, slings and his short sword. Although he had managed to use his harp to induce a friendly state of being into two wags of the hills he decided it was not a weapon and that he might even find use for it in the village, where he might even be hired to perform as a bard.

He handed the bag to the ranger and bowed.

“ These are not only my weapons, these are my heritage, please keep them safe.”

“No other way would be taken in Muirlen, young one. Thank you for your trust and welcome once more.” – said Nophar in the same tone she had used before- “Now if it is not much trouble would you care to introduce yourself?”

Bacca was momentarily ashamed but he discretely excused himself and declared:

“ I am Bacca Murhannel, raised in Kenay-Fall by my human father. I come in peace, on a quest of my own. I am looking for my mother. Muirlen seemed to be a good place to start.”

An understanding smile shone in Nophar’s eyes, and she answered:

“Many of us cross with humans in the course of our lives and almost as many times ones such as you are born. It is also relatively frequent that both raised by elves or humans try to meet with their other root, if the couple had been unmade. Come along now, i must tend to your lodging while in Muirlen; and also show where you may begin your search. So first to the Moonlit Inn, which is going to cost you ten gold pieces for the next five days, which is how much anyone is allowed in their first visit to our town. As soon as you have settled in and refreshed from your traveling I will return with a map and information for your search.”

While she spoke they crossed a small avenue of tall oaks in between which was a hybrid building of stone and wood blending beautifully into the landscape behind it. It was the Moonlit Inn and it was a pleasant sight; with a mirrored crown on the roof to reflect light into its halls. The rooms were built around the large well of the inn and simple but stable stairs and ladders connected the differently sized rooms to the platforms that would lead to the common facilities of the building. The sunlight was literally pouring down the...

The emptiness again. The darkness.
The maiden was there, quietly kneeling beside the bed, with a wooden mug filled with...

Water, blessed water!

He drank it to the very last drop and asked in his native tongue: more.

Shame rose up in him as he realized that he had been rude to a stranger, a stranger helping him live again.

He lowered his head but that was painful and darkness was closing in again, with all of its dizziness relentlessly taking his control.

Drink more, the voice said again in his head, more water and more until your body has had enough. More water until you accept that you are indeed alive.

He reached out his hands and blindly touched a new mug that was helped to his mouth quickly.

Three and four more times did Genma need to drink.

And then he was himself again. He could recognize his own mind. He could recognize he was indeed there.

And now he had thanks to give.

He bowed and whispered his own word for thankfulness.

The voice came to his head, yet again.

It is now time to tell you I mean you no harm; though me and my people do not know if you mean us any. It would be wise and generous of you to let me see your thoughts and memories. Then, your thanks will be accepted.

Genma looked at her with a certain amazement and resigned, lowering whatever defences there might have been.

He only asked her name.

Lienepyr...

Open your mind to me, now there is no point in hiding, for I will do you no wrong with this...

Genma’s Path

I felt my lungs starving for air; all the sweat and the strain in my muscles were nearly driving me unconscious. Even though I felt very humiliated I also felt like the greatest of all honors had been cast upon me.

My Hokage had concluded our duel stating I was not ready to become his successor.

As with all of his lessons, I learned not to question his word.

He then told me I still lacked a feature of vital importance for any Hokage. That I should venture the world and find it by myself. And only then should I return to restore my honor in a new duel or to prove I had found what was lacking before.

Although many, if not most of his teachings had been very hard to take he felt a deep respect admiration and something like the love a child might nurture for a parent.

And thus I settled my departure.

Awakening

The outer steps of the temple were empty. Once they echoed with the sound of their people hustling by, joyfully or just quietly... but never this lonely silence. If the temple could speak, it would talk of being abandoned after serving for so long, both dragon and elvin kind.

And Luana was now left with the task of finally closing the temple and hiding it with the help of the ancient dragons that were allies to her kin.

She had spent the last entire night checking for anything that might still need closing, and gathering the most secret of all icons, those who belonged to dragons only – once they claimed the crystals for the protection of the whole globe.

These icons were unknown to most anybody and creature except for the most ancient of all beings and spirits...

Luana had been assigned the keeper, and not the bearer, of the Lights and she would now summon the beings she would look upon as parents, as masters, as teachers and also best friends. The venerable metallic dragons.

After spending the required time meditating to get her full energy back, Luana spent a good moment sadly watching the sunset over the far away cliffs.

She stood up from the stairs and walked back inside the temple, where her few belongings lay close to the gate. Kneeling down she opened the case that kept the crystals that the elves had managed to retrieve.

As she began chanting in the dragon tongue the light started changing inside the temple, as the ceiling began to open the spiral glasses that used to filter the evening stars light into the candles of the ancient rituals.

Luana was now in a very vulnerable position. From the moment she would begin the summoning until the dragons arrived she would have to sit motionless, defenseless; worse, with the sum of the crystals laying on her lap.

Unfortunately, she would not be able to cast any protective spells on her behalf. It was necessary to prove good faith to the dragon’s subconscious mind, and casting a protective spell in a summon of ancient dragons was almost an aggression to their part.

So Luana focused and took her task to its end.

Three dragons would come, Gold, Bronze and Platinum.

And in the ancient dragon tongue they were called, addressed and pleaded.

Luana was ready for all... dying at the hands of any predator or villain or delivering the terrible news to her ancient companions...

Luana widened her perceptions of everything around her and she felt and knew she was but bound to be killed by an incoming dark dragon. She had been detected, she knew that from quite before that day. An overly elder elf is but unnoticeable amongst the ancient beings. Luana had chosen not to trans-mutate for the benefit of all other human like races of the globe.

She had early learned she would have a part in the prophecies of the Precious Crystals.

That was why she had been sent to be raised by dragons in the first place.

And now they would either come to rescue her or to find nothing but the vague brim of her existence...

His head was aching and he felt his limbs too numb and stuck to move.

A surge of panic thrust his body, sending violent shivers across his spine.

Painfully and slowly, Genma recalled his own name and became gradually aware that he had somehow been made a prisoner. A prisoner to an unknown enemy, perhaps.

Controlling the wave of pain and panic, as so many times during his years of training with the Hokage, he found himself being quieted down by his own breath.

The external sounds became very clear, and several scents could be distinguished. Stews being boiled somewhere not far, the fresh scent of pine in the morning, horses and a peoples smell not familiar to him. Along with the song of the morning birds and the stream down the hill, there was musical whispering, a new kind of speech he was almost completely alien to. Had he not learnt sylvan from his master, this most foreign language would be unintelligible to him.

He entertained his following moments by going into himself looking for injuries that would need his attention, and found none. After that he started absorbing the rest of this environment and began counting how many people were there, close to him, and how many he could spot with his ear at a greater distance. In the range of five lying oaks he could hear the sounds of a seeming small village populace, but no village to live in. He was in a camp. In that area he managed to slowly identify fifty six different voices, but a lot more stepping, which meant that also this people could devote themselves to silence and insight.

In a rounded total he counted about a hundred and thirty persons not far away, and...

Godfred

When Godfred arrived at the center of all spell casters he gave a sign to each magic leader to begin with the casting in the correct order.

It seemed like a certain joy had suddenly sprung up when all the elvin voices raised in chanting each of the spells and enchantments.

But the howling winds around the harsh cliffs were only stronger and one would be able to see that the winds were releasing all the dust from the higher walls of the spine, and Godfred knew then, as he watched the winds slowly coming down towards them, that even with the concealing of most of their actions their intent was under the chance of being detected.

As the first enchantments were concluded and their weavers were concentrated on keeping them, it seemed like the winds hesitated and moved back a little, but another wave of wind surprised everyone at the bottom of the Dark Spine, luckily not shaking those spell casters out of their focus.

It was unusual to see fear in elvin faces, but they were used to being one with nature and it now seemed that nature wasn’t being natural at all, as if it were no longer deserving of reliance upon.

The concealers continued and te gate openers began their summoning. The elvin people was ready to start crossing the three big magical gates in less than an hour. If all would still go well.

Tanariel silently moved to the back, keeping an eye on the mage, and honouring his mother’s request of holding Godfred’s security until they arrived at their table mountain.

Luana said that few humans had been as precious to her and their kind as Godfred was, and that was more than enough for him to bow to this man in no shame but pride of a good bonding with his clan. And so he held his life to Godfred’s, and would not abandon for nothing, that was his honor and the choice he would present before council.

When the magical gates started forming his innate ability to shift his life energy started to take him to a new different awareness, being able to recognize the patterns in which the gateways were being processed and the beings at the other side contributing for a safe passage.

A rush ran through his veins, when the elves started crossing, a mix of relief and anticipation for their safety and well fare.

It would take a good while before all would be able to cross.

The gate openers were so intensely lighted by the energy of the gates, one would assume they were a part of it.

Godfred overlooked the area and was relieved to calculate that the crowds would be able to cross quite swiftly for they were elves and not common men. But still, they seemed to hesitate...and that was a puzzle.

Then an unconscious prisoner was taken through the gates and the carriers disappeared silently in the light.

“A prisoner?” He thought, distraught, “but we had none!” – and then he tried to look for Tanariel in the crowds but he was nowhere to be found.

It was reluctantly that Godfred decided to fully return to his functions.

When a third of the populace had crossed the gate openers of the first gate joined the other two gates increasing the size of them and allowing the people to cross quicker.

There was a strain in Godfred’s features and in his gut that alerted him to an abnormal shift of energy.

He only had time to turn around and see a couple of huge Belkers attacking some of the concealing sorcerers. The gaseous creatures had knocked down two of the concealers and were now moving to a deeply meditative new pair.

Godfred quickly signaled to the stand guard sorcerers and healers to move on the victims, and he himself, still taken aback from the surprise moved towards the smokey deadly creatures. Their wings were flapping backwards to him, which gave him an advantage, but he still had to move as silently as possible.

A blond haired sorceress had inhaled a portion of one of the Belkers and was now striving to survive the elusive attack.

Godfred had to take action as quickly as possible and he would not afford losses amongst those he had so long ago sworn to protect. A set of vocalizations left his mouth and his hands drew a strange figure in the air, making his eyes glow as if fire had replaced the insides of the mage.

Bringing his palms decidedly down, a rain of fire fell upon the two dark creatures, burning their claws and wings and making them flee while burning.

Healers were already hurrying to the site of the confrontation while the elves began to hasten their passing. Godfred was now aware that a greater attack was most probable soon, were they not able to cross in time.

He came close to one of the gates and imbued a whisper with magic so every sorcerer in th...

The March of the Innocent

The caravan was now crossing the vast planes north of the Dark Spine, one of the most treacherous passages through the continent on the way to the high table mountain of Elvin Keep.

The wind was howling high on the peaks of the Piercing Canyons, cursing each of the elves’ steps. Clouds were running fast, hiding the moon, and many of the striders were feeling very sick, because of their connection to nature being so deep; there was definitely something wrong going on in Earth, and they needed to get to their home as soon as possible, so they would be protected by the great spell of their people.

Anyhow, these winds were of no natural cause, for they might even have enjoyed the song of the winds, otherwise.

The druids, wizards and sorcerers of the caravan were very silent and hastening the pace ever more insistently.

The elves were in danger, and if not even the sum of their numbers, abilities and crafts mastership was enough to counter whatever was menacing them, they all felt it would be wise to gather at a relatively safe area and assemble before proceeding.

All the sorcerers and wizards were called by the few military available amongst them all.

There was a silent and ancient looking human in the middle of the military commanders, apparently a mage of some sort. He seemed to be leading everything, but nevertheless also seemed very concerned.

Under his dark blue robes he was making a visible effort to solve some kind of equation, while his hair and beard flew with the ominous wind.

One could only understand “There is no time to loose!” in between his mumblings. He would sometimes start walking quickly to stop as abruptly, upon a new hesitation.

Tanariel, one of the rangers summoned to escort the march was with him all along; and seemed not to be disturbed at all, trusting this mage’s abilities, even though he seemed no fool, hence he remained silent and serious.

The ancient looking human exclaimed “Ah!”, surprising everyone in the proximity.

- Where are the other mages? Any druids among them? Tanariel, quick there is no time to loose and I think I might have just found a way to get everybody home without giving our identities and destinations away...

- Master Godfred, they’ve been all summoned druids, healers, sorcerers and wizards alike. Anytime now they should be here. Is there any other service I can be of use to you right now?

- Well, you could organize a scouting cycle to protect the people and set an isolated perimeter so that all the mages could work together. I trust you will manage quite fine and quickly, old friend.

Tanariel greeted Godfred and set off to take care of his newly assigned chores, hasting his horse along the camp over to the point where the MoonWings were set.

The MoonWings, were trained agents that could be as silent and secret to elves as elves were silent to human or dwarves. They were a sort of secret guard of the Mountain Temple, expert in gathering information and stealth missions.

Tanariel gave out the orders as quickly and discretely as possible, so no one would suspect of anything extraordinary other than the already unusual weather.

The nonchalant elves he had spoken with went on about as if nothing else had happened, but just while Tanariel rode back to the centre of the Camp, as one would look back to where they were, one would not find them there anymore.

Godfred had already assumed that one of the reasons why all of them were endangered, was that the spell cast against them was being kept by a very powerful mage, or a group of very well concealed sorcerers. He assumed it was the group, because not only it would be necessary to keep the weather spell going on for hours in bigger range than usual, as also because whenever Godfred tried to identify the source of the weaving he would only find thick walls against him. So, the group of sorcerers was very well protected by another maybe smaller group that was helping concealing all of them from the elves.

It would take them all the power the elves possessed at the moment to try an evasive manoeuvre as swift and surprising as possible... so it would be necessary to raise the camp and set for an early departure. Now an idea of a plan was becoming clear to him, and he just called one of the captains.

Whispering he said:

- I have reasons to believe we can all handle an extra stride at this time and place; if all goes well all of us will be home sooner and safer than expected. It is wise to keep quiet at all times. Please gather everybody behind the sorcerers arriving ready for a new stride, and let no word or thought be uttered to the chance of scrying...

The captain left an...

Under the Stealth Siege of Darkness

The high cliffs of Hierac-Thull were torn by unprecedented winds, infuriating an astounding avalanche through every corner of their veins.

Not even the ten miles pyres distributed on the peaks were burning anymore. For three nights and days did the fowl wind blow the mountains, stripping them from their white cloth, revealing its red walls and falls.

Then the dark clouds faded away, leaving a new landscape at sight. The huge spine of mountains seemed like a giant animal bruised to the point of loosing skin… and besides the shadows of the passing day, the only white object in sight was the temple of Urienveil, the haven for the mountain elves.

It had now become a sitting target, undisguised by the absence of snow on the mountains. The halls of the temple were silent even though they were crowded with the three elvin clans surrounding the area of the temple. Everyone had gone up to the temple for protection, knowing their villages and houses were now as lost as the white soft gift from the heavens.

This silence was heavy. Not long from now their enemies would find them and attack them for their several treasures, secret and not so secret.

High-priestess Luana gathered the councils of each clan, and all the priests, druids and wizards of the orders of the Mountain, Snow and Sun. Their most treasured possession was now in the utmost of dangers. It had become necessary that people and treasures of each clan scattered throughout the land and gathered anew in the sacred land of the Gronmerthil.

Furthermore, the remaining three Primal Crystals would now have to be urgently found, as their guardian, to be protected.

It was the feared time of summoning the old dragons and their pact with their race

Luana was saddened with the prospect of the many lives endangered from that moment on

And the certainty of the dark powerful spell that had stripped the mountains of their cover, sent chills through her spine

Darkness was going for a kill, the biggest of all...

The air was fresh with the dusk breeze that slowly swirled up from the grass. The setting sun was still a big round blaze lowering on the horizon to the West. Past the Village of Enoire-Lum, with the gay screams of the playful children by the fields around the houses of the southern most populace in the Kingdom of Lenoedan, the Golden Planes stretched out seemingly endlessly to hills of Engelsain, where the House of the Brave Sword lay.

Hawrry rode is war stallion to a renewed haste at the thought of coming home.

“Ride the wind SteelStride, ride the wind” he whispered to his bay war companion.

Melinda had heard of the end of the Battle of Inkmar two days before and was still waiting for news from the deceased, fearing her husband would be among them. As heir to the Brave Sword, Hawrry took part of the battle to ensure the safety and sovereignty of Lenoedan.

But fighting against the dark forces of Kholinhester would ensure little but a faint hope of survival. The news of the victory were of great joy to all of the people of the Kingdom, as relief spread throughout all of Engelsain. But Melinda’s heart would not be sound until Hawrry was safe with her… and no news came from the battalion of the Honour Riders, which he was a part of.

The thudding of a heavy horse, with its metal clinging, sounded by the hill down the House of the Brave Sword, Melinda couldn’t help but run outside, her hair floating free from the hustleÂ

There she was, all that was as vital as air, as sweet as honey, as beautiful as the most precious of dawns. Melinda halted at the doorstep and Hawrry got off from the war horse slowly, never taking his eyes from her. Removing his helmet, Hawrry knelt down and bowed to his lady, a tear dropping from his eyes, as the weight of the horrors of battle crushed his heart while it glistened with the joy from seeing his beloved one once more.

She could hardly believe it and yet the sunset truly shone on his armour, his red hair really glistened, and his sad blue eyes were indeed shinning up to herÂ

Uncertain, she started walking towards him, and without noticing anything else she just ran on until he stood up and both hugged each other, in the delight of re-encounter.

Rushing came a page from the back of the house to relief SteelStride of his weights, and grumping came his old grandmother, the cook, about his stumbling into the pans and glasses in the kitchen. But she was dumbfounded at the sight of her master. Both page and housekeeper knelt and bowed at Hawrry until the reunited couple greeted them softly and went inside the house, still, in each others arms.
