I will have a table in the artists alley.

This is the first Long Beach (CA) Comic Convention [link] EVER! So please, come, check it out, and support alternatives to San Diego (not that San Diego isn't great, but it's getting over populated!) And if you do come, swing by and say HI! I will be selling my Witchman Book 1 Preview as well as various prints (if you have a request for a specific print, let me know!)

In other news, after the project I'm working on now ends, I plan to take some storyboarding classes and continue work on the Witchman comic series (issue one near completion) and then start sending out portfolios again. (crosses fingers)

There is so much going on in animation right now. CN is going reality TV, which means less jobs, but Disney buying Marvel??? That is exciting! It probably means new animated shows/features. Cool.

Oh, and for those who care, I got myself a new TV, and it's stupendous! However, we found out our PS2 may have also been busted in the power-out.

Hello. You may be wondering why I haven't posted much lately. Well, I just started another full time job (same place I used to work at) and between that and getting my storyboarding homework done and working on the first issue of the comic, there is little time for extra doodles. I will be sure to post some of my storyboards and comic artwork when it is at a more completed stage.... and shortly I hope to start working on revamping some of my old illustrations as well as doing a bunch of fanart which I will be bringing with me to WizardWorld Chicago.
I did get my first proof back of Witchman Book 1 Preview and it looks pretty good. There were a few minor color brightness changes made, so hopefully the end result will be even better. I can't wait to start selling those
Also, I've seen Star Trek three times already, and if you are reading this and havne't seen it: GO! I couldn't believe during the third weekend of it's release, the theater was still SOLD OUT.

I don't know what all is included in the word "updated" but COME ON! Needless to say, I've been a stooge fan all my life. Why does it need to be "updated"? Maybe it won't be terrible, but they really ought to be coming up with NEW ideas in Hollywood. Before you know it they'll be remaking the wizard of oz......

Hello... the reason why I'm writing this now is cause I wanted to give the movie a second chance, and also because my hair is currently dripping wet and I can't draw without dripping on the paper, and also because I enjoy typing. Trying to get my wpm up. Anyway, everyone who wants to see it probably has by now, but if you haven't, I wouldn't bother reading the rest of this. This is more for anyone to comment whether they agree or disagree or just want to chat. I like chatting about movies.

5 things I didn't like

5. The ending. Not that they changed the squid thing to the presumed Manhattan explosion whatever-you-want-to-call-it, that I thought was an improvement, especially for the movie version. But the plot- pretty much everything after Nite Owl and Rorschach arrive at Adrian's base. I liked them attacking him while he was eating, that would have been cool to see in action, the fight scene instead was okay, but Adrian's reaction to finding out he had won, the fact that Nite Owl was there when Rorschach died and then tried to fight Adrian for it, Silk Spectre kissing Jon and not Jon catching her with Nite Owl, the epilogue at Sally's place.... The ending seemed to have the most endings in it and was definitely the worst part of the plot.

4. Sally Jupiter. Didn't mind her that much as young Sally... but I didn't like the changes they made to her character as old Sally. Instead of being a pathetic lazy and frightened old woman, they made her more of this sophisticated rich woman, possibly still pathetic. Didn't think the acting for her was that great, and the make up looked pretty terrible.

3. The music. There was one part I did like the music, the rest of it was weird. It should have had a traditional soundtrack, instead it was like a music video every ten minutes and in between where these weird ambient music, some of which got reused. I'm actually unfamiliar with a lot of the songs they choose for the movie, but the music I did recognize, such as Flight of the Valkyries, and 99 Red Balloons for example, sounded really out of place and even corny. In some parts it seemed like the musical selection was more emphasized than what was happening in the movie itself.

2. Silk Spectre II/Laurie Jupiter. The character. I won't deny it, the first time I read the comic I thought she was just a whiny, slutty bitch too, but I came to appreciate her a LOT more the second time around. In the comic, she has a lot of really funny, sassy and sarcastic lines. And her emotions are what make her real. I don't know how much of it was poor acting, or the fact that they cut all her good lines and changed her dialog to change her personality in the movie that made the character much more bland. In the comic she was creeped out by Rorschach and didn't buy his mask-killer theory, frustrated with Jon and hysterical when she left him, enraged by the Comedian, and resentful towards her mother for many reasons including being lazy, forgiving the Comedian, making Laurie follow in her footsteps, and even for changing her last name. None of this stuff was in the movie. Some of it was even changed. It wasn't just for time's sake. Even little things like saying "Oh my God, I'm on Mars." Instead of "Oh shit. I'm on Mars." it makes a big difference in personality.

1. The absence of the political party scene where young Laurie accuses the Comedian of trying to rape her mother and throws her drink in this face. The reason this is number one and not some other scenes that should have stayed in the movie is because I have heard a rumor this scene was never even shot, and I'm hoping some of the other scenes I was missing most make it into the director's cut or whatever the longest version to come out on DVD is going to be called. Without this scene, Laurie's reaction to finding out he is her father seems like overkill. Aside from the one emotionless line she has with her mother in the beginning of the movie, we don't see her deep hatred for him ever, we don't see her emotionally react to anything until that point and it seems out of place. But also, the Comedian isn't in the movie at all after about a third of the way into the movie. This scene would have been a good way to bring him back into the story, and even to show another, more human side to him. It's a real shame they cut this!!

5 things I did like about the movie, just to be fair.

5. The costumes. The fact that they made the effort to make the characters look as much like they do in the comic as possible, and the fact that they "upgraded" certain outfits that probably would have looked too cheesy in real life. The first time I saw the movie I remember getting chills at seeing Rorschach the first time he shows up in the movie, it was like the drawings in the comic were moving! And what about Dr. Malcolm Long? I mean that was just funny, they couldn't have casted...

So the reason I haven't posted much lately is that my computer is broken, and I have to use a computer to write this that doesn't have flash or photoshop, or a scanner attached to it. I have been wanted to post stuff though. Like the rest of that ten page bit I have finished of my comic, for example.............

I've recently made the decision to split up my story into many little issues (it's cheaper to print, and I can sell 'em cheaper then too) so I might actually have something to sell sooner than I thought!
but... finally hit 10,000 page hits. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't really matter, but it put a smile on my face and I just wanted to say thanks.

Looks like my computer isn't working again, so I'll be spending the next few days, or however long it'll take to fix it, drawing up the rest of Witchman Book 1. I'm looking forwards to it. The preview book is almost done, so once I have my computer back, I should be able to finish that soon, although I'm still trying to come up with a concept for the cover art.

In other news, still been keeping up with "Wolverine and the X-Men" gotta say, I'm rather disappointed. It started off a little weird, but with a lot of potential, and has gotten significantly worse with each new episode, well the last one was a little better than the one before it. I'll still give it a chance, it's only been six episodes so far...

Been reading through Watchmen a second time. Love it. A lot better the second time around. Can't wait for movie.

I saw Coraline also. I had mixed feelings about it. It was good, but it wasn't 90's good. And what that means is that if this movie had come out 10 or 15 years ago, it probably would have been looked over. It's just that it's better than all the crappy movies that have been coming out recently that it's getting so much hype. I mean the visuals were great, but I thought the plot was a little lacking.

I am such a nerd, these are the only things I can think to talk about. But I enjoy talking about them, so leave me a comment if you have anything to say about them.
