I've recently been cleaning up my gallery and scrapbook, trying to weed out the less-than-amazing photos and organize in general. I've also deleted pretty much anything that can be considered "lineart" from my scrapbook after learning that dA has become a source for ill-informed 12-year-olds to find "lineart" that they can color in and call their own. NOT THE CASE WITH MY WORK. (see previous journal entry) I won't get into a big rant (again), but my favorite line so far on the subject is, "Coloring in lineart helps me learn to draw!" NO. Coloring books do not help children learn to draw, they help them learn to follow implied rules, and filling in "lineart" is esentially coloring in a coloring book. You are not learning to draw, you're learning how to use crayons.

Ahem. Anyway, I've removed almost all of my cemetery photos from my featured gallery, and I'm considering removing most of them from my account altogether; a lot of them are more documentary than artistic. I'm also thinking about moving ALL of my photography to Flickr; photos get more attention there and my dA gallery is currently overrun with photography.

As for my long-standing absence from dA, it can be attributed mostly to my being busy with school, work, and life. I have been making some art, but it's mostly academic and not anything I'm particularly proud of. I will post some new works soon, though. If anyone is still following me, I appreciate it.

I am currently available for trades or commissions of character art.
Note me if interested!

You can also find me at:
Flickr, with graffiti / art photos
Myspace, but I don't add people I don't know

Clubs:

It recently came to my attention that lots of dA users use the search feature to find sketches and/or lineart that they can color or trace and then post as their own art. I'm not sure how this is seen as ok. In my mind, this equates to art theft (except in the case that the lineart is offered as free for others to color, which I know some people do). Every image on dA has a copyright notice below it, but somehow people still can't figure out that another person's art is NOT FREE.

Online art theft drives me right up the wall, mostly because it seems like common sense that if you didn't make it, it's not yours, but also because it's so difficult to enforce. Most people who steal art will either ignore confrontation about it or straight up deny it, even when it's extremely obvious. I had been noticing that I get a lot of s on a few pencil sketches in my scraps, and today I realized that people are actually just saving them so they can use them later and call them original work. This is completely unacceptable, so I thought I would put it on the record (i.e. in my journal, lol) that NONE of my art is free for general use. I have no problem drawing an outline for someone to color if I'm given credit and compensation, I'll even trade with most anyone so long as the integrity of my characters is not jeopardized. So if you want something, just ask; don't take.

I am currently available for trades or commissions.
Note me if interested!

You can also find me at:
Flickr, with graffiti photos
Myspace, but I don't add people I don't know

Clubs:

Last week I turned in my BFA portfolio, which will hopefully get me into the program at school.
I'm alive! And still making art!

This summer has been extremely busy for me...I've been through three jobs (but the current one is a winner!), my old car died and I had to get a newer one, my laptop died and I had to get a newer one, I drove to Vermont to visit my family last week, most of my best friends are out of work and I've been spending time with them lately, I've been steadily racking up debt, I forgot to fill out the FAFSA, and I start back to school in three weeks. Where did the summer go?!?!?!

Perhaps needless to say, but I haven't been doing much on the art front. I still have a few sculptures (both of which I'm very proud of) from last semester which I need to photograph, and I have a few fun little sketches that need to be scanned, but other than that I've been neglecting my imagination. At the moment I cannot locate my Photoshop disc, and I'm dying to color some things and whatnot...darn.
So, lately I've been planning a possible tattoo for myself (my first if I get it), the theme of which I'm not gonna mention here but I have to say that it involves a goldfish. Which brings me to my first point: theft of tattoo design. I think that going into a tattoo patlor and pinking a piece of flash art off a wall is bad enough, but going online and searching for images of other people's tattoos to outright copy is so ridiculous! Especially when you search dA, since most of the tattoo designs on here were specifically created by the artist for themselves or someone specific. And if you're already on dA, I think that makes you even more despicable for stealing a design, since you should be an artist to join here, and therefore capable of using your imagination. Or so I thought.

While searching for 'goldfish tattoo' to make sure my idea hadn't been done before (it's more specific than just a cute fish swimming by), I found an original image drawn by someone as a tattoo for themselves, and then about a dozen images of that exact same design on other people, where they'd just taken it in to an artist straight like it was. Then there were a few that had taken the design and re-interpreted it with NO CREDIT TO THE ORIGINAL ARTIST!! I commented on one of them and the person said that they had no inspiration, that it was a completely original idea... I'm always amazed at how people become boldfaced liars when they have a computer between them and the person they're lying to.

So, to summarize, I will NOT be posting my tattoo design on dA when I finish it, nor will I post a pic of myself with it if I do get it done, because I know that some child will come along and see it, swipe it, and it will no longer be original.

On another front, and something that I would REALLY like some advice on, my name "Innoko" has been stolen by someone online. I'm very upset about it because I've been using the name for over seven years, it's very close to my heart, a part of me, it's as important to me as my real name. I roleplayed with some twenty-something girl (not a fourteen year old, I'm saying) on a message board, where my display name was also Innoko, for a few months, then she disappeared with no notice. Not too long after that, I stumbled across a virtual pet website with creatures called "innokos," (see it here: [link] ) and after some name-tracing I found out that the person who created them is the SAME girl as the one I roleplayed with. I know that she just swiped my name, and I have asked her about it openly and politely, but she's ignoring me. I don't know what to do, since it's not a made up name (it's a river in Alaska), but I've never seen anyone else using it, ever, in seven years! Is there anything I can do? Do I have any legal right to the name? Was I right to contact her about it? Please advise if you know anything!

You can also find me at:
Crescent City, my feral cat roleplay
Flickr, with graffiti photos
Alaskan MUCK, as Kotzebue
Meadows MUCK, as Wapeka and others
Myspace, but I don't add people I don't know

Currently working on:
character art for ~X-lil-emo-X, who caught my 1,000th pageview - sketched, scanned
trade with ~Saritadawolf, Rigel - sketched, scanned
personal: response to song ("Unknown Soldier" by Breaking Benjamin) - sketched?

Clubs:
 <a href...

and see that life is beautiful.

Songs help me get through the hard times. As some may have noticed, this journal's title song is a lot more upbeat than my last one. Things have really been working out for me lately and I felt like updating with a happier journal. I got a new car! Well, new to me at least. It's a 2000 Nissan Sentra and it's really nice, plus I got it for next to nothing! So my car issues are fixed. School has been rough lately because I've been getting almost no sleep due to stress and having to get up at 4AM to take Jacob to work while we were sharing a car. But I've been sleeping better lately and I get up at a more reasonable time, so hopefuly things will even out in that department soon.

I've been making a good bit of art for my classes, but not drawing very much because I've been consumed with other things. I'm sorry. I feel like I'm neglecting my dA while my Flickr gets all the love. I do have some photos to upload, though. And tonight I'm going to try and pass out comments so I can get some of that dA love that I tend to miss out on.

Happy Valentines Day, everyone!

                                                        Â

You can also find me at:
Crescent City, my feral cat roleplay
Flickr, with graffiti photos
Alaskan MUCK, as Kotzebue
Meadows MUCK, as Wapeka and others
Myspace, but I don't add people I don't know

Currently working on:
contest prize for Lithe - DONE
character art for ~X-lil-emo-X, who caught my 1,000th pageview - sketched, scanned
trade with ~Saritadawolf, Rigel - sketched, scanned
personal: response to song ("Unknown Soldier" by Breaking Benjamin) - sketched?

Clubs:

...move along, move along like I know you do.

Hi dA! I've been missing you. Been having some fucked up family issues lately, so I've been spending a lot of time screwing around with my incredibly awesome and loving friends. I just started back to school and I'm taking four art classes, three of them being studios, so I should actually have some art to share soon. Much of my free time lately has been dedicated to two things: benching and Crescent City.

'Benching,' in case you didn't know, is taking photos of graffiti on freight trains. Jacob and I have been wandering train yards regularly and exploring the dirtier parts of Charlotte looking for street art. The fruits of our efforts are here: [link] Give us some flickr-love if you're over there!

Crescent City is a play-by-post roleplay I've been gradually building for the past few months. Characters are domestic cats, ferals and pets, and it's set in new Orleans. There's an element of voodoo, and there are city areas as well as more wild bayou boards to RP on. It opened January 11th, and it's really been a lot of fun so far, and the members have been very intelligent and creative. Come check us out! [link]

Aaaaaalso, I wanted to give a free plug to a new Alaskan MUCK that's just come on the scene: Snowflake MUCK! Well, I don't know if that's its official name...it doesn't really have an official name yet. ~tisea and ~AudreyPuppy created it several months ago, but they're just now starting to advertise it. It's similar to the late Yukon Trails and CrossRoads MUCKs--in fact it was created to give former members of those places a new place to RP--but the entire focus is to have fun, drama-free! I play Kotzebue and Calais so far, drop me a line if you decide to check it out. The address is SpartanRealms.com:2263.

PS: It might snow here (North Carolina) tonight. There's no bread, milk, or beer in any stores for miles, everyone is in for the night no matter what, the news stations are spending hours covering 'Winter Storm 2008,' and every kid in western and central NC is eagerly anticipating the magical moment when the county they live in might flash across the TV screen at 6am and they'll get the ever-coveted SNOW DAY.

...Surely, it's the apocalypse. Stay tuned.

At this time of year I have trouble getting motivated. I just got back from a week in Vermont for Thanksgiving, and now it's like I'm just killing time until winter break when I go back for Christmas. Like right now I should be working on a project that I'm behind on because I missed class today (thanks, United Airways)....but I'm screwing around on dA.

Uploaded a few things I'd been meaning to post today, I have a few more things that I need to finish, as well as photos from my trip. Ooh! I also made some folders in my gallery. I saw them in someone else's gallery and figured they were only for subscribers, but no, everyone can enjoy them! And I do, because I love to organize things.

I also have a short rant to share: apparently there's been some sort of unrest lately (and for a while, because I remember hearing this before) about saying "Merry Christmas." I guess some non-Christians get offended when Christians say "Merry Christmas" to them as opposed to "Happy Holidays" or something. I went to church with my Mom on Sunday and they were giving out buttons that say, "It's ok to say Merry Christmas to me," and I got one because I think the whole situation is absurd and ridiculous. Generally, people don't say something like "Merry Christmas!" to try and push their religion on whomever they are saying it to...it's a greeting, a well-wishing, not someone saying, "I celebrate Christmas and so should you, you heathen!!" But I guess that's how some people are taking it. Now, I would NEVER intentionally push my religion on someone, and I wish that no one would ever do that to me, and when I say "Merry Christmas" to a non-Christian, I hope that they take it as "Have a good holiday season!" or "Happy December 25th!" rather than getting offended at my choice of words or lack of knowledge about their personal beliefs so that I can properly address them. Sorry if I don't know your religion (or lack of one), but really, wouldn't it come off as more offensive to ask, "What's your religion?" before wishing you a good holiday?! I wish people would just quit digging around for things to be offended by. o_O;

Not a lot of updates lately, sorry about that. I finally got a tripod, but I still haven't taken it out to use it, 'cause I suck. And I have been drawing a little, but nothing super-interesting. I'm almost finished with my first tablet drawing, so that should be up soon. Getting the hang of the tablet except that my crap computer makes me reload the software every few days. >_<;

I recently got a Flickr account for my graffiti photos, since they usually aren't very artistic and I feel weird posting photos of someone else's graffiti in my art gallery. So they're over here: [link] (including some of mine and my boyfriend's stuff)

I hate baseball/football because the games play on Fox, which is probably the best of my twenty-or-so channels for late night watching, and when the games are on my late night shows become early morning shows and I can't stay up that late. Dang.

Also, I need a decent devID...

Sadly. I had a great summer, but I'm completely ready to go back to school--I'm not ready to get up for 8 o'clock classes four days a week, but I'm ready for school. I'm taking my first graphic design course and an e-media class, so hopefully those'll give me an excuse to make more art!

Last week I learned how to take long exposure shot with my digital camera, so I've been experimenting with night photography and light painting. It can only take exposures up to 15 seconds, but that's fine for lightpainting and not bad for night photos. I've just uploaded a few shots from a recent late-night outing, check them out in my gallery and scraps. Give my scraps some love! I put lots of stuff in my scraps, from sketches (some of which never make it to a finished state) to photography that I just didn't feel was "artistic" enough for the gallery, so there's a lot of hidden treasure in my scrapbook.

I've also been drawing a lot lately, mostly while listening to loud music, so I'm working on some song-themed art, lots of it including Innoko. Also, if you hadn't noticed, Inny got a slight redesign, go see it here and then draw her--I'd love to trade and even if you don't tell me beforehand I'll probably draw you something in exchange for gift art because I never get any and I'm bored.
I needed to update my arts junk, and my last journal was about school letting out and I got tired of it. The summer job thing isn't looking so good lately, so I've been spending my time drawing, learning how to paint in Photoshop, keeping the house clean, and playing Okami. And I finally finished Inny's ref sheet and decided on her markings, so now I can draw her all the time and so can other people. TRADES are still open! So trade me, por favor!

I've been taking pictures like mad lately. I've got about 150 or so photos that I need to edit, then hopefully I'll get some of 'em uploaded. Been doing a lot of exploring, so I've got a few of old mills and furnaces, plus several random ones from adventuring around. I'm still working on the cemetery series, but kind of losing steam since I've exhausted all the cool ones nearby. Also, I've inherited an old-school Canon AE-1 from my Dad (as seen in "Let me take your picture" [link]), and though it's currently broken in some manner, I'm mega-excited to get it fixed and play with it.

As far as "traditional art," I haven't been making a lot lately. I've been trying to draw more, but with little results. I have been working on Innoko's new ref sheet, and I've been trying to get the hang of painting/drawing/the pen tool in Photoshop, so maybe some of that will show up soon, too.

And really I just wanted to update my journal. So, yeeeeaaahhhh.

This is my second week back at school, and even though I'm only taking one art class this semester, I've already been given a huge creative outlet/excuse to do art with that single class. Which leads me to explain why you'll be seeing lots of dreary graveyard photos popping up in my gallery soon.

Our first and year-long assignment is based on the project found at accumulationproject.org. The basic idea is that you collect some specific thing continually until the project ends; in this case, we started collecting last week and we'll stop (if we want to) at the end of the semester. The only difference is that we'll be writing updates every week instead of every month. For my accumulate, I chose tombstones/headstones/gravestones whatever you want to call them. Obviously that's not something you can physically gather in your house or something, so I'm taking pictures. Seeing as I took 45 pictures in about a half hour yesterday at one small graveyard, I won't be uploading all of the photos here. But! In addition to taking plain but kind of interesting photos of old headstones, I've been taking some more artistic photos of various cemetery things and headstones. That's what I'll be uploading to my gallery, mostly asking for advanced critique. If there are any interesting but not-so-artistic shots, I'll put them in my scraps, so watch that too, if you're interested.

- I survived my French final today
- I'm almost done with my art final
- my Humanities final became optional and I'm making an A(!) in that class so I'm not taking it
- I should be okay on my Meteorology final on Monday--I pretty much know my shit for that class, hehe
- I'm gonna study really hard for my Health & Fitness exam, which will probably be difficult because my professor (who's not even a real professor) is a health Nazi and take the class WAY too seriously.

Also, Saturday Jacob (boyfriend of 4 years for anyone not following) will be here to move my heavy stuff (minifridge, bookshelf, etc) home on Saturday. And Monday I'll be moving in with him, into our first home. Yay! Totally excited about that.

But the only thing that probably matters to most of you is that I asked for a camera for Christmas, and I'll probably get it, so I'll likely (gasp!) submit some new photography soon! I also have some random art/sketches that need to be scanned and uploaded, so look for that.

SooOOoooo, that's about it. Hope everyone has a great holiday season!

I've been spending way too much time on the computer lately. So I'm really going to try and cut back: I want to focus more on making my own art and less on looking at other people's (I've recently become addicted to dA). This all happened today when I realized, "Wow, I haven't just sat around and listened to good music in a while." And I knew something was wrong. Because I love music, but when I'm on the computer I just put the tv on in the background.

So, I will no longer be online all day, I'll be out and about, hopefully drawing, reading, or meeting people. Sadly I am again without a camera, but I guess I'll make do. Also I have to work out three times a week for my Health class, so I guess I'll be doing that .
So, it's only a couple of weeks 'til I start back to school. And that sucks. I just don't wanna move a hundred miles away again. Next year will be better, since I'll be transferring closer to home (only about 30 minutes away, actually). I may transfer as early as spring if I can. At least I won't have a shitty roommate this fall, fwahaha!

And I've finally found all (well, most of) my old friends from CrossRoads/Yukon Trails MUCKs! Some of them kind of teamed up to create Meadows MUCK, based on European wildlife. It's quite similar in species- and roleplay-type to CR, and I lurve it! [link]
So if you like non-morphic furry RP in a friendly, no-drama environment, check it out!

The other day Jacob bought me some nice colored pencils, the best I've ever had, so maybe some colorful work will be showing up here soon. Also, the house I'm sitting right now has a hummingbird feeder and a friggin' flock of them, and sometime this week I will attempt to photograph them. And, finally, we may be getting a bearded dragon sometime in the near future! I'm super-excited because they're so cool and right now we just have blacksnakes, who aren't very friendly...
I am now five and a half days away from finishing my first year of college. I love my school and teachers and classmates (I didn't really make any friends), and I've had a pretty good year overall despite some general doubt and lonliness. However, there's always poop in the pansies (a ridiculous variation I just made up in the manner of "every cloud has a silver lining." geez.), and this year, that poop was my roommate. I didn't pick one because I only knew one person coming into college and she was in a dorm I didn't like, aaaaaand I basically got shafted on the roommate situation. I ended up with a spoiled brat who embodies everything I despise about society. She's extremely pretentious, rude, disrespectful, and hates everything that I enjoy. We are constantly at each other's throats and I cannot wait for this to end. She never says please or thank you and turns off my lights and/or radio whenever she feels like it without even asking, and she tends to slip into two-year-old hissy fits whenever I try to speak to her in an adult manner. And then she goes into the other room and whispers about me to the other roommates, who are considerably more normal and mature, but I HATE people talking about me behind my back, especially when they're telling lies deiberately to make me look bad. I think I've discovered the reason that weapons aren't allowed on campus...

So. Uploaded all the worthwhile pics from the Florida trip--enjoy! Expect some mountain pics soon from my Spring Break. Also, according to my mom, my camera lives! Supposedly it takes pictures, makes noise, and everything. I should be getting it in the mail this week, so I'll be back in the business of photography

I found a place in Asheville today that I'd like to go photograph; it's kind of the skeevy section of town, on the Swannanoa, with lots of old buildings and grafitti and such. So yay.

So, this past weekend I went with my family to Florida to visit my grandparents and generally reminisce (we lived in FL for three years). We spent a lot of time on Daytona Beach, including one morning when we got up at six and actually made it in time to watch the sun rise. It was beautiful. However...

Like some sort of FUCKING IDIOT, I thought it'd be ok to tuck my beloved camera in my hoodie pocket rather than bring the case. It was ok until I bent over to look at a starfish (at least I think that's when it happened) at the edge of the water. So I looked at this poor, dying, 3-legged starfish, then continued as a family came up and started gawking. A few minutes later I had the urge to take a picture of a seagull, so I reached into my pocket and commenced panicking. No camera. I ran to catch up with my mom to see if I'd given it to her. Nope. My grandmother didn't have it either, and it was nowhere to be found. I ran back up the beach frantically searching and asking everyone I saw if they'd seen a silver camera, but no luck. After 100 feet and five or so people, I gave up, started crying, and began trudging back to the car (Hey, it took me a long time to save up for that thing and it's one of my three most expensive purchases!).

The rest of my family was following far behind, and as I reached the ramp where the car was parked, I heard my mom yell to me. They were standing with the starfish-gawking family, holding something. It was my camera, and as I walked up I actually saw some seawater drip out. Needless to say, I was hardly relieved.

I dried it as best I could, brushed off the sand, and took out the batteries and memory card. Apparently it hadn't spent much time in the surf before that family found it, since the memory card and watch-battery memory thing were perfectly dry and fine (which did make me happy because it was an expensive card). I let it sit for two days in a warm room, and it'll turn on, but then it just beeps frantically and turns off. Also, there seems to be sand in the lens and shutter button, so those things aren't working right. I'm trying to get it to a camera repair place.

The whole point of this story is to say that I won't be sharing much photography for quite possibly a long while. Except the photos salvaged from the camera's swim and some that I took with my mom's camera.

So, I got bored with my last journal entry being on my page.

Everyone needs to go buy "The Autumn Effect" by 10 Years and help their little band sell some records. If you like rock to the effect of Tool, Deftones, and Incubus, don't pass up this little jewel. I've heard their music called 'typical,' but frankly I don't care. I love it. The album itself has lots of variety and is very pleasing overall, and I don't regret paying for this one bit (Especially not since I got slapped with that nice little RIAA violation...). :A

Well, now that I've gotten that little plug/review out of my system, an art update! ...A boring one. I haven't done anything artistic in a while, having been swamped with school. Tonight I drove up Town Mountain Rd. and realized that the view of the valley from up there is absolutely breathtaking, then promptly kicked myself for not having the camera >_x; So sadly no pictures of that. And with everything being all wintery and gray, there's not a lote of prettiness outside that I want to photograph.... Mayhaps I'll post some literature stuff soon. Hm.

That was fun and pointless!
