Not even enough leaves to think about raking. Wonder how long it will stick around for.

The leafe blank for the bowl I am making is now cut out and I have all the cold texturing and thining of edges to do. Luckily that part I can do inside. Well if it stays like this I won't be able to get anything more done outside. LOl.

I have plenty to get done indoors anyways.

This last weekend was the first intermediary class for the guild of metalsmiths. I really enjoyed it. We are making a decorative gate that will include; forgewelding, colloring, tennoning, splitting, drifting, punching, upsetting and more.

This coming weekend I am looking at going camping again with my girlfriend. I have thursday and friday off this week and hope to be able to accomplish a lot on those two days.

Pictures of the blacksmithing things I have been to lately coming up when I can get around to sorting through them.

Well I enjoyed my weekend camping with my girlfriend at glacial lakes state park. We wound up walking something like 16 miles over the whole weekend. It was lots of fun. Then as soon as I got back to work from the weekend I caught whatever was that has been going around and still have a little crud left from that. Now I am back to forging some tools and making a commissioned bowl for someone at work before it gets to cold out to work. This next weekend starts the intermediary class that I am taking through the guild of metalsmiths and I am excited for it I have tons of tools I want to make and some changes to some of my previous tools. Mostly on the hammer end of the tools which reall consists of some indexing that should make it easyer to hold and use the tools. I have done some more work on my hammer handles making them more comfortable and better for me to use. My first hammer head is just about ready for heat treatment. Its around this time I really start to wish that I had a indoor shop. The days are now almost dark when I get home and cold. Makes working outside a more difficult proposition.

The buckskin has all been trimmed and soon I will glue them into hide sacks and hopefully smoke them.

The commission and the buckskinn I have to get done before it gets to cold out to work. SHoot I need to strain out the bones I was cleaning while it still is warm enough.

So much to do and my fall rush to get things to a stoping point before winter forces me inside has begone. Heres to hoping that I will get them there.

In two weeks time the Guild of metalsmiths will have their Madness/fall conference and I am looking forward to another fun time of seeing others work in the gallary and watching demos to teach us more things

I have been coiling up alumanum wire for my girlfriend and her mother for rings so they can practice some different chainmail weaves. I have almost finished fabricating up the cutting machine.

I have to decide what air flow I want and eather make it or buy it now for my coal forge. The piping off the bottom of the fire pot and the thing to force the air into the fire is really all I have left till I can use my coal forge. I am so excited

Sadly my propane forge is falling apart. I will soon have to remake it. I have many ideas on ways to improve it and hopefully I will be able to without much trouble.

One of my guildmates was kind enough to give me a car axle and help me make 4 hammer heads (two of which were for him) Now I only have to forge the faces on one of them, heat treat them, and handle them.

Working on making a hot punch with my makers mark in it to make signing things a little easyer. Punch shaft has been made now to file and grind out the mark relife on the end.

Started making a pair of scrolling tongs that are going to have welded reins on them. To be finished when my coal forge is all done.

Waiting on electrical stuff for my grinder.

3 blade blanks made now when I have time to forge them into blades and make an oil tube for quenching them.

More stone points coming soon.

The first five hides have been brained and softened ,but two of wich I think I can get softer so will take them back through the softening stage, and just awaite smoking. I have 3 racoon hides that have yet to be softened, as well as one cyote face. I have now, with some help from my girlfriend and her plugged nose, fleshed and put 4 more deer hides into the solution. In about 2 to 3 days I will have to grain them and membrane them. Still so many hides still waiting in freezers. One like fourth of a hide is in the solution being made into bark tanned leather in my basement. I hope to work on more deer hides this weekend if the weather is nice. Thinking one of the deer hides I have yet to grain and membrain might go to make leather and one more to rawhide.

Many sculls and bones sitting in the water. I will have to pour them through a screen soon and change the water when I have time.

I have some cattail fluff I have to decide what I want to insulate with it. Maybee a jacket...hmmm...or a vest like thing sence it is boyent and warm.

Cracked my first knife Yay thats over with now the anxiaty is gone and I will be much faster with my next one
Still need a few peices for the setup I am getting together to heat treat my knives.

Working on making a fire piston. I have split it out, drilled the hole using and bit and brace and now have only to make the piston shaft round and clean up the working part and try it out. Then I will carve the outside.

I have been working on processing the bark and spinning it into single ply cordage.

Need to curry my bark tanned leather more.

Started carving the bowls edge. It has been some slow steady work.

Head peice still in planning stage.

still learning new knots. Planning to make a bola when I get some rope made.

I was given 3 metal planes of verying sizes and have to clean hone and tune them. I finished sharpening them. I need a peice of glass to make a lapping table with to work on them. As soon as that is done then I can continue work on the 3 low tables I have been working on and actually make them flat. Thinking I might have an alternative for glass for the lapping table. Time will tell.

I also have some painting to do on a very large peice of artwork I have been working on for like 6 years or so. I really should get on that.

I have a long list of things to forge and am slowly ticking them off as I go. Some tools, some decorative things from books and other sources as well as from my own imagination are on that list, and it just keeps growing. Sounds like if they accept the pricetag I may have to make 2 candy dishes.

Hoping to go camping again soon and hopefully smoke the hides at the same time.

Going to the minnesota renfest on the fifth of september to walk around and see all the fun sights and drink some good mead.

I signed up for an intermediary class offered by the guild of metalsmiths and that will be going on in october and november, and I am pumped to be in a...

Last weekend I was out demonstrating smithing at the minnesota zoo during john deer days with 3 other smiths. It was a lot of fun and I got a number of things finished. Possibly be able to make a few other things or repair some that have broken from use that I am in need of. I am really excited about that. The 22nd and 23rd of this month I will be out at Now Then Threashing show with many other smiths demonstrating blacksmithing. Should be a lot of fun. I am hoping to work on 3 racoon hides this sunday and have them softened and ready for smoking. I have been coiling up alumanum wire for my girlfriend and her mother for rings so they can practice some different chainmail weaves. I now have to figure out how to make an easy cutting machine and hopefully make it soon. The problem they are having is the way the clippers cut the rings they don't like to close as nicely and tightly as they could. Another prodject for the weekend I supose.

On a seperate note I really should get to some of the woodworking I have lined up to do. I did split up and cut the staves to shape for some bows and they are now seasoning only another 5 weeks to go before I can floor tiller them.

I was blacksmithing over this last weekend at the little log cabin power showgrounds just south of hastings and have more finished peices that will be up in a day or two just some minor things to do on two of them. I had a lot of fun at this event. Got to see a few new tools and learned some more about how to accomplish some types of things. So now I think I know what I am going to do for a rivit header and a nail header and how to make a decent rose. Hmm Will have to try the rose out soon here. One of my hammers also lost its handle so i will have to pick up another handle today.

Sadly my propane forge is falling apart. I will soon have to remake it. I have many ideas on ways to improve it and hopefully I will be able to without much trouble. Just waiting to finish my coal forge before I start this prodject and now it sounds like I have a date for when I can go to a guildmates place and weld up my coal forge. near the end of this next month it is looking like.

I would like to get my hands on a truck axel so I can make some hammer heads. I need a nice forging hammer. Several of my guildmates have offered to give me some if I am ever at their shops. Sadly I never get invited to their shops lol.

Working on making a hot punch with my makers mark in it to make signing things a little easyer.

Started on more tongs. One of witch I will make a scrolling pair.

Finished the second trypod. pictures to come.

Waiting on electrical stuff for my grinder.

I think I will work on wet forging some blade blanks when I get a chance.

Post vice is now complete. Pictures as soon as I remember

More stone points coming soon.

The first five hides have been brained and softened ,but one or two of wich I think I can get softer so will take it back through the softening stage, and just awaite smoking. I plan on reworking the last one when I get a chance. Still so many hides still waiting in freezers. I have a very small deer hide or peice of one I am now going to try and make into leather.
Then It will be on to making some hair on hides(raccoon and such)
maggets are still working on cleaning off the bones.

I have some cattail fluff I have to decide what I want to insulate with it. Maybee a jacket...hmmm...or a vest like thing sence it is boyent and warm.

Still need a few peices for the setup I am getting together to heat treat one of my knives.

Blade is now coated and waiting for me to get up the courage to try heat treating it

I have been working on processing the bark and have gotten a good amount of it turned into single ply cordage with one of my drop spindles.

curryed my barke tanned leather a bit and still working on getting softer.

Started carving the bowls edge. It has been some slow steady work.

Head peice still in planning stage.

still learning new knots.

I was given 3 metal planes of verying sizes and have to clean hone and tune them. I finished sharpening them. I really need a peice of glass to make a lapping table with to work on them. As soon as that is done then I can continue work on the 3 low tables I have been working on and actually make them flat.

I also have some painting to do on a very large peice of artwork I have been working on for like 6 years or so. I really should get on that.

ahh learning is so much fun

Well thats all I can think of for now.
Hope everyone is having fun, keeping busy, and staying in trouble......I know I am

Camping this weekend. Canoeing and all sorts of fun. Hopefully it will be nice out and I can work on finishing up some of my deer hides.

My girlfriends mom was nice enough to give me a 10 and 1/2 inch cast iron skillet and lid. I seasoned them on wensday and look forward to using them while camping. (I should make myself a trypod)

Well my guild mate stoped by with my platten and now my grinder is whole. He looked at my electrical situation and helped me figure out a plan that I am now working on. Soon oh so soon I will have that grinder running. He also volunteered his welders use for a coal forge I am working on.

Post vice is now complete minuse one small peice left to make that holds the bottom of the leg to the stand. Pictures soon.

More stone points coming soon. Hopefully this weekend as I am going to be out camping I will have some time to flintknap.

The first five hides are now fleshed, grained, membrained, and rinsed. So three hides are dried out and two have been brained and softened and just awaite smoking. Thinking of working on another one this saturday and sunday.

maggets are still working on cleaning off the bones.

I have some cattail fluff I have to decide what I want to insulate with it. Maybee a jacket...hmmm...

My newest pair of leather gloves is now finished and await only pictures to be taken to show you. These ones fit the best out of all of them so far. I think I have my pair of black ones now

Still need a few peices for the setup I am getting together to heat treat one of my knives. I looked at a near by thrift store for the peices and they didn't have any of the peices I need.

Need to work on processing the bark.

Need to curry my bark tanned leather still.

Started carving the bowls edge. It has been some slow steady work. Hope to work on it some more this weekend during camping.

Head peice still in planning stage.

still learning new knots. Plan on knotting/weaving up some ties to replace broken ones and for some other uses.

Finished all 3 steak turners and a hoof pick experiment and will have pictures soon.

I was given 3 metal planes of verying sizes and have to clean hone and tune them. I finished sharpening them. I really need a peice of glass to make a lapping table with to work on them. The only problem I had with this one was that the pinky twisted a little. Really not that big of a deal.

Still need a few peices for the setup I am getting together to heat treat one of my knives.

Need to work on processing the bark.

Need to curry my bark tanned leather still.

Started carving the bowls edge. Plate, bracket, and uprights are all bolted together now. Welded the table for the top of the upright together with accetaline. Finished forging the brackets that will hold the table to the upright and drilled/tapped the holes for the bolts in the table. Lots of work but should be worth it. This thing won't move once its done

Working on the last two steak turners this weekend.

I was given 3 metal planes of verying sizes and have to clean hone and tune them.
Problem with the grinder now is that it has a 15amp plug but really needs a 30amp plug receptical and fuse to run without poping the breaker. Not shure what my options are. Trying to ferrit out some options.

Pictures of the grinder workshop and some stone given to me to make points from can be seen in my scraps.

More stone points coming soon.

The first five hides are now fleshed, grained, membrained, and rinsed. I tried a little process that suposedly helps them come out softer more often it uses a little viniger water and then you drie out the hides. So four hides are dried out and one has been brained and softened and just awaites smoking. Thinking of working on another one this saturday.

maggets are still working on cleaning off the bones.

I have some cattail fluff I have to decide what I want to insulate with it. hmmm...

Started sewing together the gloves. This time I am thinking of doing some tacking stitches to give me a feeling for where it might need to be trimmed before stitching it all together.

Started grinding the blade a little bit but am finding that the problems with my grinder may put off my work on this knife.

Need to work on processing the bark.

Need to curry my bark tanned leather still.

Still have to get a picture of my kilt.

Still need to do some carving on a bowl. Been putting that off.

Small carving that just has the feet left to be carved and then pictures will show up.

Head peice still in planning stage.

still learning new knots.

Post vice stand update. I finished drilling out the holes in the plate and now have to tap them. Lots of work but should be worth it. This thing won't move once its done

Ordered the book "Animal heads" from centaur forge. Can't wait to take a look at that and then try some of them out when I have my inclined vise wedge finished.

I finaly set aside some time and made some homemade soap with the red devil brand lye that I had left. I have to go home and cut it into bars and let it cure for several weeks now. Thinking I may rebatch it to add a scent or two. I have to test the strenghth of the soap and see how it turned out.

Working on the last two steak turners.

One last note. Due to all the typing I find myself doing at work on these crappy keyboards my lower arms from about the elbow down have been hurting me. Oh what fun. So I find myself typing with just my two index fingers trying to keep my wrists streight and reduce my suffering.

ahh learning is so much fun

Well thats all I can think of for now.
Hope everyone is having fun, keeping busy, and staying in trouble......I know I am

Well this site is blocked at work so my updates may wind up a tad bit more infrequente.

Hauled about 2or3 full loads in my truck now and I am just enjoying having it.

The first five hides are now fleshed, grained, membrained, and rinsed. Now drying and when weather allows braining will progress.

I have skinned 5 of the raccoons and all the cyote skulls

I have some cattail fluff I have to decide what I want to insulate with it. hmmm...

Still working on glove patterns. Figuring I might try making a pair out of the remnents from the purse I made for my sister.

I started the work on a four inch folder at a guild class and have the blade, scales and spacers left to cut out.

I still have all this bark in my basement to process into rope/cordage and/or baskets. Using the drop spindle I made I have turned the little bit I have processed into single ply cordage. Much more work to go there.

pictures to come soon of my bark tanned leather.

I have finished making a four pleat kilt out of old jean pants. Some of it turned out nicely and other parts could have been better but I think it will work for clothing while I forge. Will put up pic. when I get one.

I really want to get some more stone and make some stone points again. Ahh once some of these others are off my plate I will have to look into getting more. Though I am shure the skins will take up a decent amount of my time now. I have broken plates and such that should provide some decent practice till then. I would also like to make a simple kiln to melt down glass bottles to lumps of glass for chipping.

Waiting for summer again to heat treat and finish the knife I was working on before winter hit. Just a couple misplaced or stiches done in the wrong order can cause the pattern to buckle in the wrong places. Very interesting. At least I keep learning what not to do

I finished the coil pot and now the pictures are in my galery. Taken with my brand new set up with lights and stuff.

I made a picture studio in my house (just a really small one for my work) and prommised sheri I would take pictures of the hats she has been making lately with it so she can use the pictures to try and sell the hats. My glass head my sister gave me from newyork is coming in handy.

I signed up for 2 classes so far from the guild of metalsmiths for january. One is a class on making the suffolk latch and the other is about making a 4" folder. The sulfolk latch class was a lot of fun and I made two thumb latches that day. Now just the keeper, bar and nailhook to make to finish them with some punching and file work to clean them up and make them hangable.

I still have all this bark in my basement to process into rope/cordage and/or baskets. I have started to soak small batches for processing.

I have now taken the water that the bark was sitting in and placed a small scrap peice(as if anything is scrap with me ROFL!!) of thin rawhide I made out of the deer legs I processed oh so many years ago*chuckle* into it. Time to see if I understand how to make veg tanned leather It is starting to get nice and brown and becoming less transparent. This may take a while Now I switched it over to a tea made from boiling the bark in water. It is so dark you cant see the skin sitting in it. It is pretty close to done. Soon I will be able to dry it out and see how it turned out. (crosses fingers) I plan on making lots more leather from scraps for the moment but may do a full hide or two next year.

I plan on making a simple four pleat kilt formyself in the not to distant future and have been figuring it out on paper. Soon I will have to grab some scratch material and mock one up.

I may wind up making a candle holder as a comisioned peice for my girlfriends father. Met her family and still no idea if they still want me to or not.

Due to all the construction at my place of work I seem to have run into a lot of scrap steel that I plan to put to good use soon. Now the only difficulty is finding a place to put and store all of this stuff in my garage. Now that the construction is almost over I have a garage full of stuff that needs to be organized once it gets warm out again. Now I have gotten even more steel cut offs and threaded rods that they throw out. Its going to be a job getting it so I can get my forge and acetaline torch out of the back of my garage come spring.

I really want to get some more stone and make some stone points again. I have now used this bark to make cordage for a drill I made and I like how it has worked but I think twisting it wet into cordage might be a better option with the thicker strands unless I process it down into finer strands before twisting. hmmm...

This may take a while

I plan on making a simple four pleat kilt formyself in the not to distant future and have been figuring it out on paper. Soon I will have to grab some scratch material and mock one up.

I finished my tool role for my hot tools with plenty of room left for more hot tools.

Thinking I will have to make a large batch of my chilly soon.

Ahh once some of these others are off my plate I will have to look into getting more. Though I am shure the skins will take up a decent amount of my time now. I have broken plates and such that should provide some decent practice till then.

Waiting for summer again to heat treat and finish the knife I was working on before winter hit.
I have found a place to get skins for buckskin and raw hide. I picked up 5 butifully pulled off deer skins to take home and make into buckskin. I have the chance to teach my girlfriend how to make buckskin. I am excited. She helped me flesh two of them that had a couple steaks worth of meat still on them. We cut of the tails and pulled out the bones so that she can have them. She says she is hooked now and I shure hope so cus it would be fun to have that to share between us.

I have been working on my glove pattern. Making it more tailored to my hands and learning more and more about the intricacys of glovemaking. Just a couple misplaced or stiches done in the wrong order can cause the pattern to buckle in the wrong places. Very interesting. One is a class on making the suffolk latch and the other is about making a 4" folder. Should be lots of fun and I look forward to both with so much excitement.

I now have the hands painted for the picture for my sister but I still have to paint the background and the rings. Hopefully it will be done soon.

I still have all this bark in my basement to process into rope/cordage and/or baskets. I am testing a prep method for the bark.
Well I have spent my days ripping apart an old pair of what might be called driving gloves and trying to use them as a pattern to learn how to make gloves and weaving a coil basket. Its been fun and a lot of work. I have started the painting my sister has been bugging me to do for her. Hopefully it will turn out well. I have enough material to try and hopefully make some workable gloves for myself that will only cost some time to make. Its sad that they were going to throw out all of these. [link] I have some more sewing to do as well. Its nice to stay busy doing the things you love and seeing some of them actually finished.

I spent my weekend working on my metal projects. I helped my co-worker make another peice of his mandalorian armer. Worked on 5 steak turners 1 for me 4 for a person who commishioned me to make them for cristmas presents for guys she knows. I did some fun twists on them. I made 6 nails from 2" to 6" or more then used them to put together my stand for my post vice so that I could use them to make the twists on those steak turners. I got my oxy tank filled and finished the cutting and now have only to make the 8 nails to attach them to my stand and to weld some small tubs for the casters. so close. Got my co-worker erick to swing my ten lbs. sledge to punch four holes for part of a clamp I am making. It is so nice to have some help.
Well it was another amazing guild conference. I had a lot of fun and learned so much about bladesmithing from howard clark.

I managed to aquire a 5" post vice, a hand sandstone wheel grinder, two ferrier rasps, a vice grips, pair of welding gloves, and an angle grinder. Only thing other thing I would have possibly wanted would have been a squirel cage blower. I now have only to make the base for my post vice I am so happy that It is such a nice one.

I did a lot of work in setting everything up with all the other people from the guild. Wound up as the pack master shoved in the back of the trailer the 2 times we had to pack it up. I think I did to good a job now they want to keep me there.

I managed to get a lot of nicely shaped scrap from the silent auction. Perfect for practicing. Once I get done making those steak turners.

The galery was amazing. So many neat things that other people have done. I had over 16 peices I put in our galery this year.

On a different note I shaved off my mustach and goatee and(after being all clean shaven and looking like 10 years younger for about a day) am now growing a beard. Why you may ask. Simply because I have never had a beard and well time to see what its like for me to have a beard. Should be interesting. Its a little weard right now being able to feel my own breath on my top lip when I breath through my nose. I have had the goatee and mustach for 8 years. Its a little weard not to have them anymore.

Over my vacation I smithed and have new pictures of things that I will put up sometime soon.

This weekend is the forge welding workshop. Should be a lot of fun and I am really looking forward to it. Now if the work week will just hurry and get done with.

There are some amazing deminstraters coming to this conference.

on another note I started trying my hand at wetforging a small blade. Interesting teckneaque.

My naber who commishioned me to make a steak turner for her brother came over yesterday while I was forging in the rain and asked me to make 3 more for other guys as cristmas presents. *yay* Now I just have to order the steel for said stake turners.

And more info on the conference if anyone is interested. [link]

I know I will be having fun.

Like watching fireworks ,that don't just go boom but actually make something, going off on the ground.
The lady who informed me and invited me to this pour also gave me a fire pot she cast in stirofoam and masking tape. Needs a little clay to refine the inside slopes but should work decently enough. Now to buy the steel to fabricate up a table to set it in and some stuff for the clinker braker and blower port.

I will put up some of the pictures I took when I get the chance.

And today I am going to make some log rounds into swedge blocks so I can make some ladles, spoons, and a shovel for my forge.

busy busy busy.

Fall seems to be starting. Makes forging just a little more comfortable. I am excited to see so many prodjects moving forward.

Sunday I ran into a lady at the state fair who might be able to give me some deer skinns and other parts. I gave her my info and hopefully then I will have some more skins to tan. and on that note I am going to draw up some business cards so I will have something to give next time someone asks.

This last weekend I was out demonstrating with some other guild members at the minnesota zoo during john deer days. John deer actually started his life as a blacksmith. That is how he created his first plow for the farmers of south dakota for the soil there.

We were there from 9 to 5 both days. We worked with coal fires. I accomplished many things. One of wich being the making of a check style candle holder.

I also got to see the trivet I helped make the tennons on get all its finishing touches and final assembly.

All in all it was a fun weekend that left me sore, brused, and with a lot of callisous and blisters.

and by the by I don't like plastic handles.....grrr...

The move was good. I am pretty much settled in for now in my new abode. tuesday I finaly had the time to pull out my smithing stuff and work on some more tongs. On monday I cut up the large stump for the four small tables I planned on making. Friday a maple tree in my side yard will be taken down and I will get all the large libs and trunk from it to use in handles for things and for all my other wood working prodjects. The man who is going to do it might bring me some other nice hard woods and such from other jobs for me to have. I am really hope he does. I am still trying to figure out where to put up some of my artwork in my new place. Feels good to have some time left to work on some of my prodjects again. I still don't have internet at my new place and may not for a while yet. Just trying to figure out my finances and decide whether it will fit in to my budget or not. I blew one of my front tires on a camping trip lately and realize I now have to get all of them replaced. Yesterday I baught the last of the stuff I need to make soap. One of my aquaintences girlfriends and me are having a craft night and soap is what we will be making next wensday. Should be plenty of fun. Hope it turns out ok. Well work is almost over and it is time for me to go home. Will post some of the things I am working on when I get the chance.

Took my torch out on wensday night. Cut up some angle iron and tapered the ends a little bit to set into the stump for my anvil. I also straightened out 2/3rds of the spring peices that I cut off of the delapidated car in the woods. I used my anvil for all these processes. It was the first time I got to use my lovely anvil and oh god was it so good. The feeling of having that mass backing up my hammer blows. I did some reaserch on line and found out that my anvil is a vulcan anvil. I placed it on a bathroom scale and found out it is aproximatly 185lbs. Its been fun lugging that thing in and out of the garage being it is 45lbs. more than me lol. I then proceded to have a cart of paper boxes that way way to much roll over my big toe and that stoped me last night and now its raining tonight. Had hoped to do more smithing tonight or last night oh well. Tomarrow I have a hammer making class that I am so pumped about.

Time to make some sketches and eat some food.

yesterday I moved more over to my new house. Then I started the long and arduous job of stripping the paint off of my anvil. So far the only numbers I have found on it are 20 and I know it is way more than 20 lbs. That sucker is heavy. I scraped a lot off and the solvent didn't seem to help much. I think a wire wheel will be my best bet to remove all of the paint. Depending on if it rains today or not I might work more on taking the paint off of it.

Yesterday I had the fun of tangling with a mess of cords at my friends mothers house trying to get her tv vcr dvd and cable all working. So I did. he goes and showes me something in the garage and being all winter out and the light being off I couldn't at first see anything but a bunch of shadows. Then it hit me. There is an anvil sitting in the garage!! Turns out one of my nabors works for 3m and they were going to throw out this anvil and he asked and no one wanted it so he gave it to me for nothing I am so excited. I can't wait to use it and make some pretty things. I went over to thank him and he said anything that he could help me with to just ask. I am so indebted to him. I want to make him something just for giving me the anvil. I am so happy. I just can't express it. I had to take a picture of it on my phone for the background. It was a picture of my oil painting now it is my anvil. I am so excited!!!!!
I think it just took to many heats and I used a little to much steel to start with. oh well it is all a learning process. After I finished it I started to make a grill fork out of a peice of rebar. as I was working on it it sliped out of my hands and hooked the front arch of my forge causing the arch to pop out, fall and brake into 3 peices. Now I have to try and figure how I am going to fix my forge. I finished smoking my 3 deer hides. I love them they turned out so well. Now I will be able to make them into some peices of clothes. I am excited about that. Well thats two things that thankfully have taken a little bit of cost away from learning this wonderfull trade. From the metalsmiths guild get together I saw a set of grill tools made out of rebar and all shined up. I want a set like that. Soooo I think I might I do have a bit of rebar so I think that it will be set aside for some fun twisting and all sorts of stuff. hopefullly all that fun stuff should turn out well.

Well I was out at my sisters driveway working on a knife and a hot cut that I have been working on when one of the nabers came up to me and asked if I could make a hook for her. She payed me right there and then for it. First for me . I can't wait to make a butifull hook for her. I have to try and match the style to the handle of the broom that she will be hanging it from. Should be really interesting I am excited to be moving forward in a craft I so enjoy

Well due to a storm around here lately there are some downed limbs and even trees around. I took this chance to harvest some green bark without having to harm a tree. I am not shure what kind of tree it was but it was dificult removing a large enough peice of bark to make a container out of. But after a few threats from a naber about someone calling the cops on me because I was wearing my loincloth and cloak. Sad some people just are so against different types of clothing. oh well I still gathered all the bark I needed for this little bit. I managed after some difficulty with it splitting and such to make a nice decent sized bark container. It was my first try and deffinatly was a learning experiance. I used some cattail cordage to bind it. Should be interesting when I get the chance to try it again.
