Three digital works in three days? And two of them actually have backgrounds! I should give myself a pat on the back. Instead I'll make a list, which is better than a pat on the back, since I'm such a list maniac. It is a list detailing random stuff I like, which not so randomly find their way into my drawings...

1. Gosh, I love crossovers. Plucking a character from their natural setting and plunking them elsewhere that's not so natural. I dream of a day when Dr. Gregory House vacations in Miami and gets involved with the Miami Metro and a certain blood spatter analyst. Dexter's mental commentary on House's witticisms... I can imagine it now <3 <3 <3 House on Dexter would be super-duper! Dexter on House? Not so much.

2. Tattoos are great! Nearly all of my characters have tattoos. The one's that don't are probably too young to have them. Haha. I think it's a kind of obvious differentiation mechanism. Like hairstyles usually are in a lot of manga. I really want my characters to be unique. By that I mean that I want them to be unique from each other. I try to pay attention to every detail that defines a character... subtle stuff like skin tone, the slope of the nose, the curve of the eyebrows, the shape of the ears, and not so subtle stuff like height and weight. Like they say, "God is in the details." But regardless of the effort, I still find that hairstyle makes the greatest impact. ah poo~

3. Situational irony: best storytelling device ever(PERIOD)

I've been undertaking the seemingly impossible task of organizing all the schoolwork that I've collected over the years. And OH MY GAWD how I regret setting foot into that back closet and setting my eyes upon those boxes of paper.

I have an uncanny love of paper and it verges on madness. I swear I've kept every single scrap of paper since I was 12. The purging process is nerve-wrecking. Two things keep me from throwing things out: possible usefulness and sentimental value. I keep thinking things like, "What if I need to re-learn how to do long-division? This worksheet will be useful then!" and "When I'm old and wrinkly I will be pleasantly reminded of the days when I used to go to the school library when I come across this note informing me that I have an overdue book!" and other such nonsense.

During this process I've come across countless pages of notes covered with doodles. And I've been thinking how it's even possible that this kind of stuff comes out of one's brain...
[link]
2(mutant My Little Pony) + 1/2(Face of Evil) = Face of Evil Pony Dimer
Seriously?

Seriously, I miss collaborative doodles.

I love doing remakes of my old drawings. It just affirms that I've actually improved or something like that. And since most of my drawings are of people, every time I draw a character that character becomes more concrete. It's somewhat rewarding seeing my character "grow up." More accurately, I think every time I draw a character that character is reinterpreted by my current mindset.

It's interesting to see how my style has changed through the years. More interesting is seeing what's stuck. The stuff that practically defines my style. I think it's silly that the words that I'd use to define my drawing style can be used to describe me pretty well. It's pretty scary when you really think about it...

So I'm back on the dollie train. ChooChoo~

It's really because I like doing faceups and making accessories and taking pictures. Basically the reason for that is because the turnaround time is so short. Other upload-worthy stuff takes way too much time, and patience is just one of those things...

I think it's the coloring that takes much much too much time. I just don't have the skills to whip 'em out, unfortunately. I wish I did. Perhaps it's a good idea to try some more of that kind of stuff that makes me want to chop off my fingers. Seriously, more than 10 minutes of coloring drives me nuts. But the idea of completing a picture makes me want to try at least. Hopefully I'll still have all my fingers when I'm done.

I love doing faceups and I wanted to try out some different styles, but I can't drastically change my dear SungWoon's face whenever I want because he has a fixed character.

Ta-Da!
Enter Kamen the floating head~ he/she doesn't have a fixed character so I can paint him/her however I want whenever I want. Plus, not having a body keeps me focused on the face. It's a SOOM Namu head. I love that mold. It's so different. The fat lips and big nose are just so intriguing; however, I did mod him. I gave Namu a nose-job. I rounded it out to make it look like a "real" nose. I mean, the original Namu nose is so pointy and upturned... in any case I love Namu's potential.

I think the only thing permanent about Kamen is going to be the gold eyes. I love these SOOM Nightflowers I got for Kamen. I also bought a Batchix bust, but it hasn't gotten here yet.

I must be losing my mind because I spent $600 on a doll.

When I first started getting into bjds I was kinda creeped out by the 1/3scale 60cm dolls, but the more I looked at them and thought about them the more I got used to them, and then I started entertaining the idea that maybe I'd like to do a faceup for one of 'em, and then I started to have the feeling they weren't so bad. I still thought $600 wasn't worth it...

until I saw the DIM Achernar.
I fell head over heels and lost my mind.
I say it must've been love at first sight <3

I have this bad habit of becoming impulsive and wanting things and not being appeased until I get it. It was like that for the Roomba, the Wacom, the laptop, the phone, the mp3 player, the snow boots, the...

I tired to resist. Of course I couldn't rationalize spending $600. (It's the second most expensive thing I've felt impulsive about topped only by the laptop and then followed by the tablet.) I talked to everyone about my ridiculous urge to spend $600 on a DOLL. They told me I'd better not. They told me I was a fool. I called my mom for some more sound advice, and she told me:

"I know $600 is a lot of money, but don't let that get in the way of your passions." (I <3 MOM)

I was flabbergasted and more that that I felt many warm fuzzy feelings about the wonderfullnicity of mothers. I think she was feeling guilty about "not having fostered my artistic ability." I suppose she felt that they might have forced me to become and engineer and not some artsy-fartsy designer or whatever because of hyped expectations... of course I reassured her by telling her that I do have superior analytical thinking skills in addition to my natural creative ones. I mean, whose daughter does she think I am *wink wink*

With that encouragement, I sucked it up and shelled out the $600 and ordered the DIM Achernar. So all I have left to do now is wait.

They say he'll be here in about a month.

I uploaded a rough concept sketch of 성운, "Nebula" in Korean, as a scrap. (That's also where I went wrong... I shouldn't have thought up the perfect name for him before I even definatively decided to purchase him... I must have known in my heart of hearts that he'd be mine eventually)

so... today's moral?
$600 is a small price to pay for happiness and peace of mind.

I've finally gotten around to uploading something!
I admit it's taken a long time, but now is better than never.

I named my first 1/6 dollfie "Marie".
She's some crazy mix of French courtesan and Colonial beauty.
I'm a proud mama. ^^

I'll get around to getting some more creative stuff done... eventually -_-;;;
It's a long term goal.
Let's not rush things.

If I ever finish _______________ I'll post that...
but at this point that seems like it'll be a long time coming.

I want summer vacation!
