I will be brief. For awhile now I've wanted a name that is self reflexive rather than just a conjunction of my name. Finally ive made the name and am now making the switch. the new account is =sympa-inspir. Now for the definition... Sympa is french for kind, but also works phonetically in english for simple, and inspir is the latin root for inspiration. Just to be clear I asked my friends to describe me and then went in search for.. suitable words. I just wanted to be clear i may not be as self absorbed as you think (ive been told i am before..).

As for =jallen I wont be submitting anything anymore, and as for my current gallery I'll be moving it a peice at a time on over to =sympa-inspir.

I 've received more than a few questions and comments about depth of field lately so I figured I'd do a little overview of it.

- Depth of Field is defined as the focus or overall sharpness concerning the foreground and background of an image.
- Depth of Field is created based on the following

- Subject Matter & Angle
- Shutter Speed / F - stop
- Zoom (mm) of your lense

1. First off to use Depth of Field effectively or at least see it in action you must choose a scene with a define foreground and background. Choose either one to focus on.
2. To see the Depth of Field actually work take a few shots each with different fstops and times but so that each is correctly metered and expose for. To do this as you move a full stop up or down inversly apply it to your shutter speed.

EXAMPLE: If your fstop and shutter speed where f 4 @ 1/30 it would then become f 8 (two stops up) @ 1/10 (two shutter speeds down).
3. You'll notice that the lower the fstop number is and the higher the shutter speed is, the less Depth of Field you will have (refer to the first picture, f1.8 @ 1/200 s).
4. While I was making the example photos for this I played around with my settings and found that f4 @ 1/50 s looked best for utilizing focus via depth of field (refer to the second picutre, f4 @ 1/50).
5. Finally I started to think... just how focused can I get this?? I set my camera to the lowest fstop it would allow, f 22 and adjusted the exposure to compensate ending up with 1/8 of a second (refer to the third picture, f22 @ 1/8 s).

The focus on all of these images is set to manual all using the same lense. Keep in mind the only thing that was changed in any of them was the shutter speed and fstop number.

Hope this helps

Ahh this is quickly becomming entirely too about my website. My music tasts have shifted from r&b to folk and alternative exlusively. Not sure how good or bad this is though its overall sad and semi existential music. If you don't understand what I just said, existentialism is a philsephy of everything ebing nothing. Its interesting cause ive gone from a heavy buddhist influnce (nothing and suffering) back to existentialism (simply nothing). I guess im just tired of the pain. Re-reading this journal I just realized my philosophical orientation fits in with my love interest at the moment. One influencing the other? No one shall ever know. This feels over so it is.

Sincerely no one's,
An important distinction. I've gone back and forth on this a few times now.. but ultimatley decided, I need to remember why I went into photography. I went in because I needed photos to manipulate, to chnage into a creation that made a statement. The debate I had with myself.. was about this question: Sould a photogrpah already be able to make the statement you want withought altering it, or sould I be able to and feel free to as an artist take creative liscence and express an image that can convey so much more. Ultimatley in the end creative liscence has won out. Dont get me wrong though photography is my medium.. MINE you cant have it! lol.. but im less concerned with the whole 'photo integrity thing', and more concerned with ' that could use some tape there eh?'
There are photographs here on deviantart that when you see you just say "wow... that.. just wow". There is something about it that you may or may not be able to put your finger upon why you like it, but you do.

I propose that we create a group to feature and support this work, prefferably work that hasn't got like 5 billion pageviews previously! A second, and perhaps more primary, function of this group would be to hold competitions oriented toward photography.

My idea of how this would all work about the competition is for example to have an assignment, for example assigning the word 'Fear'. Deviants would then submit ONE photo to the group with
SUBMIT - ASSIGNMENT in the title of the Note, and a link inside to their submission.

Then in the end - we would vote on one LARGE journal holding thumbnails of ALL submissions.

I've used the word 'we' a few times now and the reason being is because first i want this group to be about the people in it! SECOND is because i need staff to help with this... i need people who are on CONSISTANTLY.

If you are interested in joining the group or being staff - please note me (i have a few people in mind and you will all be receiving notes shortly).

Lastly, we are going to need a deviantart account and it being paid for! SO heres the dealy if you pay for the account.. we keep you mentioned in every journal as being everlastingly greatful (the group might get very large aswell so it might be VERY good exposure)

IM VERY EXCITED ABOUT THIS!

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The point is I've been getting some flack for it from freinds and what not so I figured I'd go into a lill bit of explanation.

The cultivation of my work.

For me, this is my best work to date and also my most controversial. I suppose its both for me because it and this whole series of self portraits that ive been doing has been about the photographer being infront of the lense aswell as behind it, about exploring both sides of the medium. This peice especially because it is total exposure. The photo was and is about nothing being hidden.. not simply about 'O hey! I take nude pics to kekeke!'
Moving right along the comments i have received about this and other peices really sadden me.

I even received a comment saying:

"Deviantart has enough people who simply take pictures of themselves"

Personally I think I sould truly retire from photogrpahy even at this early of a stage if thats the only way my self portraits are being seen.

Another part of the reason I have done alot of self portraits in my work is because simply you cant call a model the moment you have an idea at 4 am.

Again it just makes me sad that people view my work this way and really reinforces my feeling that alot of people assume too much when simply seeing an image and dont really work at all to understand anything.

Sadness prevails.

Now for a slightly more serious note;

I find that recently my photography has taken a bit of a new direction based on a simple principle; that being in each and every photograph have two elements that complete a photo. The idea being that these two elements work with or against one another to tell a story. The story doesnt have to be spectacular or anything but it needs to be there, it needs to have purpose. Im no longer satisfied with setting up a random shot of something, making something highly illustrated but withought a purpose. My work needs to say something.

If I can I'd like to curb this theme, this idea toward expressing my views of humanity and lack thereof, aspects of it if you will. Wether I'll be able todo this, who knows?! I'm having fun trying.

Favorite pics of the moment.

<sub>

A photograph by ~SheChaos
There are a few reasons I LOVE this photograph! most of wich being the extreme experimentation that went into it.
Already gone

I came into highschool with two illusions that are now time-tested facts. No. 1 that people were vain and No.2 I wanted to leave. I was right.

I was right because people are so involved in what to wear, who said what about whom, and how to fix their hair that real problems like world hunger, abortions, HIV & Aides pass them by. I’m sorry if I don’t buy into the idea that as seniors we are privileged. I am sorry that I am perceived as smarter because I always tried my hardest in class, if I always raised my hand, if I always gave a damn. I’m sorry most of all… that we as seniors we are seen as ‘above’ and that for some reason the rules do not apply to us. But I apologize if I don’t consider three students asleep and half the class missing ‘above’. If nothing else it is a tragedy. The single most vivid thought coming to mind being “Is this really my generation? The ‘future’?”.Is that how life is supposed to be? Is that how highschool is supposed to be?
No, highschool is supposed to be about learning, about growing. But it isn’t. all tat it really teaches us is how to put someone else down. About the ‘best thing’ always being the most expensive. About making fun of the kid who came to school with the wrong shit on. About being as vapid and shallow as everyone else to survive. And where did I get from all this? Where did I fit in? Nowhere.
However there have been those times… those times that I have seen people help one another, people that I would have otherwise thought brainless the entire year… actually reach out to another person and help them. It is those times, those times no matter how infrequent and ill numbered, that give me hope for the future. It’s those times that show me regardless of how we act and want to be seen, that even a few of us have humanity. These simple acts that actually show growth in the people giving and receiving them; these are the acts that make me believe that people can change, That not all the ‘popular kids’ are as shallow as everyone perhaps makes them out to be. Or maybe even as they want everyone else to think.

The downside is that we pass by our friends, never really saying what we want to. Always telling half-truths so that we ourselves appear as self centered as everyone else. And that’s what’s really sad, that I gave up who I really was, that we all do, to fit some impossible mold. In the end it’s all about bettering ourselves in the eyes of others instead of our own.

It’s amazing to me how little we as a class do to better ourselves. That there always has to be 10 extra credit points dangled here, or the threat of mummy and daddy grounding you there to get someone moving. But in life, there is nobody to dangle some little prize in front of you to motivate you. The thing is we honestly need to start caring. I honestly think if anyone here gave a damn about half the projects they did I wouldn’t see them littered around the trashcans on-campus as soon as the bell rings. I wouldn’t hear students talking about how they wrote their entire paper the night before. I wouldn’t see students asleep inclass.

Don’t get me wrong though, I’ve been on the other side. The other side where you are so tired, from juggling your parents, your friends, school, and your sanity that you just want to lay down and close your eyes to the world around you, hoping that you wont drop the wrong thing. The otherside where yes, you do fall asleep in class because you stayed up past midnight fighting with your parents. The other side where you don’t even care about anything anymore, you just care about leaving. The sad thing is... that it is at times like this I feel most at home in the class of 05.

A message to those close; Because of the few people that made it easy to stay, it is now that much harder to leave.

I’m going to miss highschool, but I’m not going to miss all of you.

Congratulations class of 05’ on being ‘Above’

Mind you all this is a Self portrait, something I at least value b/c i have done so many... hehe but again, this is no ordinary self portrait, it pushes the limit of conventional photography and because of that stands above alot of other self portraits I have seen; including my own and those even done by =BlueBlack or ~charkole. besides this peice being expreemely creative and inventive in concept its execution is exelent. Beyond even that! the color scheme/ white balance is spot on and the fact that it fades out toward the actual focus of the picture adds.. a hint of mystery. This is truly GRADE A+ work work lots and lots of , aswell as ~SheChaos being worth a HUGE +deviantwatch

An extraordinary portrait by ~candas.

This portrait makes use of the many rules of photography! The photo exemplifies structure, form, color, texture, and even juxtaposition! truly this photo is worth more than just a single glance, balancing such an emotional and self reserved pose against a seemingly cold and perhaps even steril environent. If for nothing else, this photo is worth a fav for its shock value. Again, ! ~candas is definatly worth a watch aswell, thatis.. if you value good photography at all
...

film is back.. digital is out.. for the moment.. but i am still using my digital for my little photo excursions and experiments.. just that i neeeeeeed to do more film work.. durrecntly im working with a blur series/ motion and slower shutter speeds, so we'll see how these come out.. part of the reason i dont want to use digital for them though is all the pixelation, ou just dont have to worry about that in film now then...

just need to figure out how to do all the manual settings including the light metering on my canon ti.. ALSO>>>i need a good lens for all around shooting besides my 28-90mm with custom macro adjustment

ummm other than all that life is good and getting on (thus the title), im not one much for melodramatics but life is finally peaceful withoght certain individuals, the ripples in my pond finally ebbing out. its serene really

'i hate this picture b/c ______' then yeah thats ok but if its more along the lines of 'your a stupid jew' or some other racist comment of course that ISNT ok, and then yes action sould be taken against them by the DEVART admins. i just think that devart sould work a little more along the lines of how the real world works. for serious offences, serious punishments, lesser offences lesser punishments, dunno
Just subscribed to Devart for a year, i figured i might go on and see what all the hubub was about. im going to miss those lill adverts.. like godzilla killing a plane.. and it saying soemthing about japan (how does this relate to DA???) lol.. ANWYAYS, uhh yah id say its worth it, just wish the subscription was for like 2 years for 30$ dunno blah blah blah yes im concieted ANYWAYS. Part of the reason i subscribed is i want todo a weekly/monthly featured deviation thing since ive seen SO MANY good pictures that just arnt being promoted the way they sould im going to have 4 deviations (the best) for the month and more of slightly lesser greatness as features of the week.

now then my own personal lill rant is over, time to move back onto to devarts problems

in a response to my last journal eustressor
came up with an addition to the original idea of adding another search category putting deviations with less views/comments first. his idea being putting a box similar to the daily deviations box on the right or just under it, idk i think the idea is great. i dont know im thinking about noting spyed about the idea. however when talking to some of the galler directors all ive been told is currently DA is working on the daily featurs alot at the moment so im not sure where my lill idea fits in lol.. in anycase

currently only have one picture ive seen worthy of the monthly feature
is a digital drawing by trouncek it is simply AMAZING the blend of a sketchy style focussed into a finesse that lends itself to minute details. its jsut amazing theis amount of work/ focus put into a peice that otherwise would not be especially interesting, defiantly a

ive talked about this a few times in random comments lately so i just tought id let everybody read my nosyness lol

ANYWAYS HERE GOES, in all of my portraights/ pictures of people.. ive noticed a recurring theme... im capturing moments of what we all know as the human condition.. its ever chnaging and omnipresent from the happiest to the darkest moods, its not describable other than that becuase of the fact that it DOES chnage SO much from second to second, day to day and especially person to person. just of all my pictures u can just see a specific emotion.. i dont even know im capturing it when i get it.. but lately ive actually noticed myself trying to look for those emtiosn and ive noticed, the shots have become more and more rare, dunno

and NOW taddah for the chinese food..uhh lol.. no real chinese food here but i DID wanna talk about devART
i dont think devart really functions on this scale anymore, i mean its sort of the same as a democracy (considering it IS a democracy), it works VERY well on a small scale, and not so well on a huge scale. Alot of great artists are not receiving the views they sould be and after baking my noodle (chinese food refference, thus the title *wiiink*) more than a few times i think i came up with a semi solution to the problem. we CAN go back to a voting system but i think this time we might be able todo i a bit simpler, we could have one vote per person on each deviation, or on each deviant, however yes while people have expressed concers about being cencored basically for fear of being voted negativly, with only one vote per deviation/deviant i think that over time people will get a fair rating, and perhaps you can even have the option wich you dont want a vote on your profile/ userpage or deviations, dont know all that can be worked out

however theres ANOTHER way i think that deviant art can better serve its purpose as A COMMUNITY agh caps. in the browse section of deviantart, another sections can/ sould be added for deviations with LESS views, that way people can see art that hasnt received the views it sould have rather than people having to sift through the newest submissions/ oldest, with only those you miss everything in the middle, dont knw... these are just my humble opinions..

this is the start of my work in black and white, all photos taken are ACTUALLY taken by me, developed by me and ENLARGED by me. (im taking a photo class) the images are not altered AT ALL, excpet for a cropping of 20 pixels on one or another side to add a border. so. im pretty happy with my first image considering ive never even taken a photo class before... so. lemme know whatcha think eh?
