Note: Some cakes have ** behind them. This means that I cannot create a sculpted cake (like the lion, wine cask, or turkey) from this cake due to stability issues. These will just be regular old pretty cakes.

CAKES

The Tried and True – Basic, basic, basic! Good for events with a lot of people, or the finicky palates of yound children.

Chocolate Butter cake – American classic. Pairs well with fruit or crème fillings and any icing or ganache.

White cake – Lovely, slightly almond flavored cake. Any fruit filling brings this alive, and goes well with Buttercream, Cream Cheese icing, or lemon or apricot icing! Get creative!

Yellow Butter Cake – The basic. Buttery and tasty. Pairs well with chocolate frosting or ganache! Or filled with fruits like bananas, or even filled with a cinnamon crème!

“LCD” Lowest Common Denominator cake – Vanilla pound cake – perfect and everyone loves it. Recipe by CakeLove. Excellent soaked in liqueurs or in basic glazes! Yummy!

Angel Food – Light, airy, and conscience friendly. Pears wonderfully with syrups, fresh fruit, and crème!


The Classically Tasteful Cakes – These are like the little black dress of cakes. Classy yet it will make you drool.



Carrot Cake – Spicy, yummy and with pretensions of healthiness. Bits of crunchy walnuts, give it some texture. Topped with Crème cheese icing!

Italian Crème cake - Lovely white cake enhanced by walnuts, coconut and crème cheese icing!

Princess Cake – Lovely and elegant! Sponge cake layers filled with jam (strawberry, raspberry, rose), then topped with pastry crème and covered with a layer of marzipan. (An almond candy similar to fondant)

Spice Cake – Aromatic and wonderful! One whiff or bite and you’ll feel like it’s Christmas. Best soaked with a rum syrup, or simple glaze. But this can be iced if you like!

Cassata – A Sicilian Easter cake! Italian spongecake in thin delicate layers filled with Ricotta and candied cherries. Topped with a cascade of rich velvety ganache. Recipe by Wolfgang Puck’s restaurant Spago.

Tira Misu – An Italian delight. A lovely layered cake consisting of delicate lady fingers soaked in coffee liqueur and rum, a lovely layer of sweet marscapone cheese, and dusted with fine chocolate. A must for any coffee lover. * Not available for sculpted cakes.

Pear Charlotte – Similar in build to the Tira Misu, however this flavor is all about light delicious fruit! Layers of lady fingers flavored with sweet churned cinnamon butter, topped with a layer of spiced sautéed pears, top that with a rich vanilla bean custard, and finished off with a dollop of crème fraiche! Can also be made in apple! ** Not available for sculpted cakes.

Golden Grand Marnier Cake – A sumptious cake overflowing with the flavors of orange, Grand Marnier, chocolate and almond. Moist, with a flavorful crumb! You’ll want more! Recipe from the Cake Bible.


Lemon Chiffon cake – For the tongue with a taste for tart! Light notes of lemon, on lovely airy silky cake!

I'm heading off for the land of the rising sun (Oh yeah, and anime.) for a year at least, though I'll likely stay longer knowin' myself.

So here's my leetle project. God knows it will take me forever, but it will be invaluable once I start putting the comic into production. I'm making a facial expression reference sheet for every main character. That's five, happy people. And I'm doing fifty expressions. Why fifty?

I found the coolest thing ever. Seriously. If you draw at all, or are interested in psychology. Look at this. This person is my hero this week. [link] My god.......it's awesome.

Holy shit, I am proud of myself. I've blustered for years about makin' comics, but I really never got past half assed character ideas. Not even concepts, and maybe one picture to show for it. I've written so much, planned so much, and with everything I type or draw it goads me further to keep on. This is gonna happen. It may be slow, but I have time over the week days to work on this, and it may REALLY launch after I graduate, but the idea is, within a month or couple of months, I intend to have a functioning sexy webcomic. With maybe a print edition. :3 I am so PROUDZ.

That will have to do in terms of creativity right now. I just...have no time or the willingness to sit down in front of a computer since I do so all day long at work now. So you may see more traditional works since I don't wanna touch photoshop with a ten foot pole.

However I'm in the middle of writing THREE comics.

By god, I will start putting one out on the web sometime this year.

1. Un-named as of yet, a spin on the noir, fantasy and modern. Ripped off from a terrible idea from my RP community, and carefully re-written to not suck balls. IT features a grumpy psychic, a delusional punk rock homeless girl, a philosophical vampire, and a gun toting fairy bent on killing everyone. Seriously, it's much better than it sounds. Definately a serious plot.

2. Nebula Brown - Far Out Adventures in Outer Space. A space comedy of course! You should have a good idea of the premise of this comic, shame on you if you don't.

3. Kitchen Spirits - A tentative title. Fantasy! Evil elves! Wicked spells! Pervy old men and The spirits of hearth and home! Homunculi! chickens in the shape of basketballs! Full of intrigues and twins! And tasty food. I really love this particular plot. I've got the setting worked out, the world, the main characters, and the basic plot set up, but I'm working out something to really propel the storyline a bit further than it already is. I would love to do this story. This is a comedy fantasy, rom-com.....romp of pure ridiculous. Most of my brainchildren are ridiculous, really. I think I would even do this one mostly in traditional medium, just for shits and giggles.

I know these are really vague outlines, but I don't want to give any more away until I get going into production.

So I haven't done anything artistic just for me in a great while. In fact my beloved newly bought tablet has taken residence in my office, in order to aid my advertisin'.

Life's been hell the last few weeks. I've been a crazy woman. But the hard part is over, and the slow lessening of stresses is on the move. Things are chilling out. 2 out of the 3 classes I need to graduate are done! One of importance left. Hot dang.

Last semester was mildly disappointing, I signed up for jewelry and stained glass, but not enough people signed up for jewelry for the class to make it, so I had to pick up digital design. Which was okay I guess, but not nearly as exciting or filled with blow torches. Stained glass was both awesome and hell at the same time. I didn't nearly have enough time to properly devote myself to it. But as an art form, I am utterly enamored with it. My next purchase will be a grinder, and once I have that, expect a lot of windows, funky sculptures, boxs, jewelry etc the stained glass way. I feel over all fairly good about the semester, A B in stained glass ( I feel down about this, but I attribute it to having no time outside of class) and an A in digital design. :\ I woulda been disappointed if I got anything but! My goal for this weekend is to start posting looooooooooong overdue artwork. I have sculptures, paintings, drawings etc, that no one has seen! THE NERVE!

My head is also brimming with paintings and sketches, and windows, etc.

With those two classes done, it successfully means an end to all my art courses. I am so GLAD I took them. It really broke me out of the mentality of "I'm just an anime doodler...I just do crappy photoshop stuff." I am now fearless and feel like all boundaries are gone. I can say proudly, I'm an artist! I really can make stuff, and I'm creative. It's really rather freeing to say. I'm not just a crappy doodler, but something to be proud of, and I can only get better.

It was rather intimidating seeing my class mates, all of whom have had a lot more art schoolin', and practice than I have had, more time thinkin' outside that box...but I know, it's just a matter of time, practice and the right frame of mind.

The jorb is going good. I really enjoy it. Not as much drawing as you think, it's more a matter of making sure logos look spiffy and clean, the ad is pleasingly arranged, and that it is eye catching.

I'm getting FANTASTIC job experience though, and I'm learning like crazy. Soaking in things that will be highly useful to me in any job I might pursue.

It's been a bit tiring, and I'm glad last semester is over. For five weeks I had school for six hours, then went immediately to work for another 6-7-8....And came home and collapsed or had a mild emo breakdown. But now that those classes are over, and passed with class, things are sunshiney as hell, and I feel some creative juices flowing.

This semester I WILL have time. Instead of two LONG and involving studio art labs, I have a PE class in the morning bright and early at 6:45 (I actually do enjoy this. Trying to set up some good behaviours to keep my wobbly bellydancer butt in shape.) and an easy peasy class with a proffessor I love about the dynamics of how children learn to master writing.

I think you guys will be pleasantly surprised with my broadening of scope as an artist. I know I am.

Be watching this gallery! I'm going to be scanning, and when when I can get ahold of a camera, taking pictures of my crazy new stuff.

So I think I'm going to work on Nebula Brown: Far Out Adventures In Space.

I do believe I've stuck on that title. I've scripted it out and divided it into chapters, I'm going to start where any story should, with her backstory, and incooperate the bit with the pirate Ms. Sheila, and try out some funky ideas.

It won't be a long running comic, but my trial run before I actually start drawing my baby. The comic I've been plotting out for a few years. I just don't want my first try to be on that one, so I can work out design kinks. ANyhoo, be on the lookout, I'll post page by page as I get them done!

A new magazine/website for san angelo needed a graphic designer. A guy I work with passed me the number, because a dude in a bar was looking for someone to fill the job. Now you know you're feeling no fear when you call on a job that was scouted in a bar. HOWEVER, it turned out to be a legit company! o_O And while they can't hire me fulltime yet.....they want me to try out some contract work.

I'll be starting out with an advertisement for Graham Central Station. HOT FREAKING CRAPADIDDLES. LUCKY BREAK!

Even if I don't get the fulltime job, this is some street cred for me getting hired as a graphic artist later.

I want to create art. Prints, paintings, drawings, stained glass windows. I want to be a bellydancer, both tribal and cabaret, and be in a dance troupe. I want to be a jeweler. I want to be a costumer. I want to work with small children and make their lives better. I want to make some sort of difference.

I feel like I'm reaching for too much. Maybe it is too much for one person. But part of me says. NO no! You are Alexis, like supergirl, but far more awesome! With a little money, there is no end to what I can make and do in my lifetime.

Funny how ego works. I have an extremely low ego in many regards, but when it comes to accomplishing things, I'm superman with boobs in my mind. Or batman. Batman is sexier. <3

Recently though, another obsession has rocked my world.

Cakes.

You read that right. CAKES! Glorious edible sculpture. I fancy myself a good cook, and I have a mighty love of baking. But, recently I suppose I've come to realize the potential for art and expression through CAKE.

I love the fact, that yes, you can truly out there crazy with sugar and fluffy cake. It really is edible art.

SO! Miss Lex is going to learn to decorate cakes, and reach a level of baking and flavor skillz she hasn't had before.

Now the local hobby lobby offers your basic cake decorating classes, and I figure this is a good place to start. HOWEVER, they don't have an instructor currently. They actually tried to hire me to teach something I don't know how to do. Well aesthetically I know what looks nice, but as for technique I'm mostly lost.

So, it has come to this. I'll teach myself. Hobby lobby still has the student kits they make you buy for the class, and guidebooks. Using those, the interwebs, creativity, and moxy I intend to teach myself the ways of sugar, buttercream and fondant, and everything tasty.

Every week I'm going to make a crazy cake. Starting this week with a cake to give to mom for mothers day.

SO be prepared for an even broader spectrum of stuff in this DA page.

Suffice to say Tom is happy. As are his friends. They are my testers for taste.

English - final paper written!

*Physics - Needa study!

*Design - 18 x 24 framed, matted, mixed media art painting. Still need to even START this. Due tuesday at 8am.

Sculpture: DONE! on display in the art department!

*Printmaking: On the whole, I'm actually doing well on how many prints I've gotten done, problem with printmaking class is, there is no definite number I need, the more quality prints teh better, the more I experiment the better. I think I'm in good standing, but some more wouldn't hurt. In particulare I need to finish out my prontos, my photo litho, and do more cyanotypes. Problem is, there's been no sun! Tornados, thunderstorms, but no sunlight for developing! ARG. I'll get these done, I have until wednesday at 1pm.

I've also gotta clean my disaster house, and do homework, because my best friend miss Tara is coming for the weekend tomorrow. And everything is a wreck. However I have so many projects I never seem to have time to post any of these things, let alone work on independant projects, but I intend to correct this by flooding my gallery soon with school stuffs, stuff from my drawing class, design, painting, and printmaking....AS well as sculpture pictures, etc, padiddly.

Also for my roleplaying community I participate in, I intend to start updating ALLLLLL my characters wiki profiles. And I want current badass character portraits for them. SO I'm going to go through, and make a new badassified character portrait for all of them. THat is my ambition this summer. WHOOOOOOO!

Did I mention I'm finally graduating soon.......After six years of college? W.T.F. MATE?

I'm also twiddling back and forth on trying to decide whether to take graphic illustration, stained glass, jewelry or art film this summer. HMMMMS. Jewelry sounds good, but the materials are super expensive. But I need to cram in one last advanced art course. HRM. We shall see.

Alas, Lex has developed a string of severe migraines which keep popping up all over. The doc has me on sleeping medication to MAKE me sleep. He seems to think that I have 20 hour days cram packed to the last and only 4 hours of sleep ain't right. Go figure. So no caffiene for me. (PISS PISS PISS I WANT MY CAPPACHINO DAMNITALL.) And I have to actually you know, sleep.

This bothers me, so much to do! AND I AM SO FULL OF INSPIRATION, not only do I have a long string of request art to do, but my head is so full of ideas! GOOD ONES. ONES I MUST FINISH. Like my comic. Damnit. I really need to get on that. Perhaps I'll make a jumpstart during christmas break. Ah well. Ah me. I can't complain my style is trucking along at great speed. So all is well with the world.

yeah. Other than that! I had a really quirky idea, which I think I'm going to move on today.

Just finished studying "A midsummer nights dream". LOVE IT. Didn't pay it much attention before (always been a hamlet fan) until my teacher really put a whole new perspective on it. So I was thinking of making a midsummer nights dream comic (honestly, it seems terribly funny in my head.) in plain lex translated english, with a dash of my own humor? Killing classic literature? A good idea? WHO KNOWS! I'll maybe try my hand at the first page today. Be warned though, the artwork will be my most basic style, since comic pages take FOREVER to accomplish, I'm going basic on it. I'm hoping the humor will carry it. Perhaps not the best idea, but I really hate spending 10+ hours on A PAGE, knowing you've got 20 more behind it. >

Well so, I'm officially 22 today. *shakes ass*
I had a lovely bit of drinking and dancing with my friends at the new club, came home today, cuted my way out of a ticket (all hail the power of boobs.) and am currently in my home, had a nice talk with my family and steak, which for once was okay, (num num). Mom gave me a funkadelic silver and shell necklace from mexico. It kicks the hardcore ass. As well as a groovy travel bag, and pumpkin and spice bath and body works goodies. (I SMELL LIKE PIE!)

Had a nice day lazing around the house with my friend James. I'd say things are going well in the world. Cheesecake and pizza promised tomorrow at the family dinner. DND to be held with my friends after that.
