Let it snow...

We're getting our first snow of the year tonight. Nothing major, just about 3-6 inches depending on where you life. I'm betting on only about 3 here in Salem. Should look pretty, though with all of the Solstice decorations up in the yard. As long as it doesn't turn to rain I should be able to get some nice pictures of the year. Who knows... maybe this year I'll get the chance to make another snow dragon. Even with all the snow we had last year it was too dry to stick well enough to make snow critters of any kind. So here's hoping this year for snow that isn't too wet or too dry, but just right. If the snow spirits are kind, Frosty the Snow Dragon [link] may live again!

Fortunately, they are small enough to crank out fairly quickly.

Things are still going to have to wait a few days, though, because a friend has just moved back to town after 5 years in North Carolina. The movers will be here Monday and I need to help her unpack and put things away as she has some health problems that make strenuous moving difficult for her. If all goes well I can get her all set up in a couple of days.

But if not by this week, I can definitely get (most of) them done next week. I have 10 new bottles to do up and if they all sell, that's $100! Not too bad. Hopefully, this will be a good Halloween season and I'll have a good month of sales down at Crafter's Market. Keep your fingers crossed for me and hope for lots of dragon sales!

I was digging through a drawer in the office looking for something and completely forgot about the matte cutter I had stored in there... until I sliced through the top of the middle finger on my right hand with the attached razor blade.

It's not enough to require more than a good bandage, but it stings like crazy. And having a bandage on the top of you finger makes it kind of difficult to smooth clay. Then there's the fact that with polymer clay you use rubbing alcohol in the smoothing process like you would use water with regular clay... that ain't gonna happen!

So, I'll just give it a week or so to fully heal over and I'll be good as new. And in the mean time I'll be getting our Halloween decorations set up out in the yard, so expect pictures to follow!
Urban Wildlife... Alive and Well in Salem

One thing you hear a lot of people bemoaning is how our urban, industrialized world is "killing the planet." That our cities and town are destroying wildlife or driving it from our midst. I live in a urban community, just a 10 minute walk from downtown Salem. We are one of the few houses in our tightly packed neighborhood to have a small yard. How small? Well, it only take about 20 minutes to trim and mow the grass and that includes pulling everything out and cleaning up afterwards. But you know what? I see more wildlife running around in my backyard on a daily basis than I ever saw when growing up in the country.

As I sit here on my back porch writing this there is a pair of juvenile squirrels running amok in the yard playing tag, chasing birds, and occasionally stopping to much on the scattered bread balls I tossed out in the yard for them. We have a swing in the yard with a canopy on top that the squirrels have decided to use as a trampoline and they like to sun themselves in the winter along the porch rails. And to save my garden we have a couple of squirrel feeders out in the hopes that they will eat those and not dig up my tulip bulbs. Speaking of my garden, every summer it's a debate whether all of the color is from the flowers or all the butterflies.

And birds! Oh, my, are there birds! People walking past the house often stop to watch those little feathered puffs of energy as the bicker and squabble for their turn at the feeders or all dive in the "pool" of the mushroom shaped birdbath we have placed along the fence. We have at least 5 different species of sparrows, 3 different kinds of woodpeckers, grackles, starlings, finches, blue jays, cardinals, and some I haven't been able to get a good enough look at to identify. Downtown to help "combat" the ever present pigeon population we now have several mated pairs of hawks and falcons. We even have a "Merlin" hawk that likes to hang out in the various trees that in our neighborhood. Then there are groundhogs, chipmunks, raccoons and the occasional skunk or two.

Some of people have commented that our backyard has become something of an urban wildlife refuge!

And that was kind of what we had in mind. People who live in a urban environment have a lot of options for helping wildlife thrive. We have two bird feeders, one for loose seed and one for suet. The loose seed feeder is one of those "squirrel proof" feeders that closes when one of those little furry thieves climbs on it. It works well enough that they don't even try to raid it anymore. In the suet feeder we use a "hot pepper" brand of suet. Squirrels don't like the pepper, but the birds love it. It dangles from a tree branch at the end of the driveway over the street where no one parks, so they get a snack and we don't have to worry about them leaving "presents" all over the Explorer.

Around the bottom of the back porch, we use lattice to keep out large burrowing critters (I don't need them digging holes along my foundation!) but the openings are large enough for the small birds who stay here all winter to be able to get in find shelter from the winter snows and cold winds that blow in from the Atlantic every year. One house around the corner from us has literally dozens of little bird houses and feeders of their own to help them manage through the winter months.

There are all sorts of things people who live in urban areas can do to help out the local wildlife, even if they don't have a yard of their own. If you live near a local park, adopt a spot and set up a suet feeder (it a lot less messy than loose seed and less likely to attract a gaggle of pigeons who do well enough on their own!). Check with the park service and see if it's okay to nail up a bird house or even a nesting box or two for the squirrels. Do you like to garden, but don't have a yard? Try container gardening or window boxes or hanging planters.

The thing is to use your imagination. Instead of bemoaning the lack of wild spaces or wildlife in your urban environment find creative ways to encourage nature and support those urban critters who have adapted to living in the big city. You might be surprised at what you can come up with!

The Big Halloween "Push"

Well, here we are less than three weeks from the kick off parade for this year's big "Haunted Happenings" festival. This city wide Halloween party started out as a simple 5-day event focused on Halloween. Now it is the signature celebration here in Salem and runs for damn near the entire month of October. Last year with Halloween falling on a Friday we had an estimated 150,000 people come through town. This year, with Halloween being on a Saturday, we're expecting even more! This is the month when local businesses make the money that will carry them over the lean winter months until the tourist season starts back up next spring.

For those of us who sell hand made items, the next couple of weeks becomes almost frantic as we make sure we have enough stock to carry through the month. I have pictures to print, bag and tag, hand made journals to put together, copies of my book to print and bind, and of course mini dragons to sculpt. My little candle holder is ready to go to the shop, and I'm almost done with a couple of mini dragon wind chimes. And I have a new box all set and waiting for e new reclining mini dragon to sit on top. I'm really looking forward to making this one provided, of course, that the little bugger chooses to cooperate. They don't always.

I have a mottled sapphire and pearl finish on the box ans I'm hopping to do a pure white dragon to go with it. It looks very pretty in my mind's eye, but past experience has shown me that just because I want a sculpture or picture to look a certain way is no assurance that it actually will. But hope springs eternal, as they say...

As always, when the dragons are finished pictures will be posted so, please, stay tuned!

Welcome Fall

I know Autumn doesn't "officially" start until the Equinox, but the last few days have been so typically "Autumn in New England." Highs have been in the mid to upper 60's and evenings have even dipped into the 40's (perfect sleeping weather). The berries on the Elder trees out back are ripening and the local wild life are having a field day with them. The squirrels are so full of energy right now they don't know what to do with it, so they seem to be having marathon games of "tag" in the back yard. And the sparrows are so fat from all the seed we've put out for them over them summer they are nearly twice the size of the ones you see around downtown. One has to wonder how the little buggers are able to get their fat feathery fannies off the ground! But it's all good. The plumper they are when winter starts the more of them will make through to next spring. Of course we will continue to put out seed for the birds and food for the squirrels year round.

Speaking of birds the flocks are starting to gather, now. They are, of course a fraction of their eventual size, but it's fascinating to watch them wheeling and diving across the sky as sunset approaches. In another month or so the geese should be gathering in preparation to head south, and some of the tress are already starting to show hints of fall colors.

My mums are coming into full bloom so there are bright pools of reds, yellows, and oranges through the planting beds of the yard. The sage is tall and fragrant, the lavender is thick and bushy, and the mint is running rampant in the garden... again! And down on Salem Common, the apple trees are heavy with fruit. It will soon be time to start harvesting and drying herbs and flowers to replenish those I use in spellcasting and incense making. Once I refresh the cutting edge on my hand pruners, I'm going to snick a few lengths of wood from the Ash, Elder, and Maple from the backyard and maybe get one or two from the Apple trees along the Common to make new wands out of. (I tend to get "magically" creative in the fall. I know a lot of people do in the Spring, but for me it has always been Autumn.) In return, I have a bunch of those "Miracle Gro tree spikes" [link] to give to the trees. I always thought that while leaving a coin or a crystal might be more "witchy" for some people, I prefer to offer something the tree might get some practical benefit from... like fertilizer.

And right now, looking over at the bird bath, there are about 7-8 different birds jumping in and out of it, splashing around taking baths... which is making things a little difficult for those just looking to get a drink! But I think I'll take that as my cue to wrap this up and go back inside. Can't sit out here on the deck writing all day when there are things to do, places to go, and friends to see on this beautiful day. Hubby has the day off since it's Labor Day, but it's back to work tomorrow. Today we are just going to enjoy the "unofficial" start of fall by spending it outside. Maybe we'll walk down to the beach and I'll see if I can find a couple of nice rocks to put my mini dragons on...

Take care, everyone, and thanks for reading!

Living a Spiritual Life in a Secular World, a Pagan Perspective

This isn’t about "religion" but spirituality... the connection you have with the divine in whatever form speaks to you. In this hectic world many of us find it hard to just sit still for 5 minutes and catch our breath, let alone meditate or commune with the divine. Casting a full Circle, or holding a formal ritual? Forget it! There are just too many things we have to do, places we have to be, and people we need to take care of. We get so wrapped up in the mundane that we forget that even the mundane can provide an opportunity to bring a little more spirituality into our lives. It all depends on your point of view.

I know that sounds a little simplistic, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t true. Think about itÂ

Take cooking a daily meal for family and friends. Cooking is a transformative act, a magical act. And it can very easily be a spiritual act. When you cook, you take discreet ingredients, some of which on their own may not appear very appetizing, and combine them in specific ways to create a dish where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. It nurtures and nourishes those who partake of it.

Now think about how much greater that nurturing could be if the whole time you were preparing your meal you took the time to commune with the divine and channeled that energy into the meal? Think about the effect that would have on those with whom you shared your meal? This isn’t about converting anyone to the same faith as you, it is simply a way to connect to and share the divine spark that dwells within all living things.

What about cleaning the house? You know that can be a spiritual act as well. With a little bit of directed visualization and focused intent you can vacuum up the psychic “dirt” along with the physical. Mix up some purification and protection herbs (bay leaf, sage, and lemon peel for example) with a little powdered sea salt (or regular table salt) and scatter that around the room. Visualize it destroying any “bad vibes” that may have crept into your space since the last time you cleaned, then vacuum. Put some of the mix into a bucket of water and mop the kitchen and bathroom floors, wash down the sink and stove, etc. Turn cleaning your house into cleansing your house.

And finally… what about cleaning YOU? Yes, in today’s fast paced world not to many of us have time to take a long, purifying soak in the tub, with scented bath salts tuned to the proper phase of the moon, candles and soft meditative music. But that’s not the only way to wash off the psychic clutter at the end of a long day. The simple act of standing under the running water of the shower, combined with… you guessed it… focused intent and visualization can be quite effective in cleansing one’s aura and psyche of the day’s mental, emotional, and spiritual grit and grime. Even if you normally shower in the morning, if you’ve had a particularly rough or annoying day, shower before going to be so you don’t drag all that mess with you to sleep

As you wash up visualize the soap and shampoo removing unwanted or harmful energies along with dirt, make-up, and perspiration. See a dark film of gunk covering your body and being washed away down the drain, neutralized by the cleansing power of Water where it will eventually be returned to the Earth to be “recycled.”

These are just a few suggestions on how to make every day chores into spiritual acts that can bring us closer to communion with the divine. Some other suggestions would be to create a magical garden. It doesn’t matter if it’s in your back yard, in window boxes and flower pots on an apartment balcony or window ledge, or in one of those little “Aerogardens” [link]

on your kitchen counter (which is a great way to grow your own magical herbs, by the way!).

Set up a small arrangement of items that have special, spiritual meaning for you (even if no one else “gets” it), and every day when you get home from work or school, take a moment (however brief) and light a tea candle in honor to the divine. Offer a simple “thank you and blessed be” to the gods and continue with the rest of your routine. For a little extra pop, burn scented tea candles (Yankee Candle Co. makes some of the best!) instead of incense and change the scent according to the seasons: floral in the spring, fruity or beachy in the summer, crisp and spicy in the fall, evergreen and “icy” in the winter.

The main thing to remember is being more spiritual and consciously connecting to the divine doesn’t have to be a chore. In fact, it shouldn’t be. If it is you are missing something important. Being spiritual doesn’t have to mean dragging yourself to Church or to Circle. It doesn’t hav...

A Simple Truth

I was reading a book the other day called "The Circle Within: Creating a Wiccan Spiritual Tradition." I liked it so much I read it in less than a day. It's not a "Wicca 101 how to" book, but more of a "why to" on the actual spirituality **behind** the religion rather than the mechanics of it. The author also goes into suggestions on little ways to incorporate a greater spiritual practice into a hectic modern life... something that would probably be beneficial to anyone of faith regardless of ideology. She gives a very practical overview of how to "walk the walk" in our modern daily lives without turning those lives upside down.

One of the most thought provoking things I think I read in the whole book is the following regarding one's responsibility when taking on the role of "priest/ess:"

Quote:

"Fulfilling our responsibility as sacred beings isn't as difficult as you may think. We need not be Mother Teresa to be a healing force in the world. We have to start with the innermost circle: the individual. There's no way to change the world that isn't one person at a time. People often overlook the self. On the outside we "do unto others,'" but on the inside there's a patchwork quilt of self-abnegation, societal stereotypes, the opinions of others and every mean thing anyone has ever said to us eating away at our spirits as we smile at the world.

"The gods do not judge us, but we manage to do quite well on our own, heaping self loathing on ourselves that we would never direct towards others. Sometimes we are kinder to our enemies. We are taught from an early age, and by example, to be casually cruel to ourselves: "I'm so fat," I'm such an idiot," "I must be the ugliest person on earth." When you find yourself cursing the mirror, stop and think: would you walk up to a total stranger and say "My god, man, who hit you with the ugly stick?" If you would, put this book down and seek help.

"If not, ask yourself why a compete stranger deserves compassion and you don't? You are the God and Goddess as much as any other person. Would you tell your Goddess She's got thunder thighs? If you would, duck!"

End Quote/

Reading that the first time really had a profound impact on me. When you actually "hear" someone say it, it seems so obvious:

***Why do others deserve to be treated better and with more respect from me than how I treat myself? Why do I say things to myself that I would never allow anyone to say to my child/sibling/parent/spouse?***

But it's something damn near every one of us does every day does probably every day to some extent. My husband, when he would spend X amount of time trying to figure something out, used to always say things to himself out loud like "You're so dim sometimes" when he finally caught what he had missed and it really bothered me to hear him put himself down like that. I finally jump his shit one day and told him that if I ever caught him talking like that about my husband I'd kick his ass.

But I never seemed to pay attention to the fact I was just a guilty of self insults... not REALLY... until after reading the above passage. After reading the above it finally dawned on me that saying it quietly in your own head or saying it out loud in front of others doesn't matter. It's still not a very nice way to treat someone. And if I would never be that hateful to some one else, why was I allowing myself to be that hateful TO myself? Better late than never, huh?

Now this doesn't mean we should all sit around and silently praise ourselves, nor neglect to work on ways to improve ourselves: physically, spiritually, and mentally. It just means we should be as respectful, encouraging, and supportive of ourselves as we are of others.

Like I said, a simple truth that seems rather obvious.... once you hear it... isn't it?

Excellent Customer Support

Had a weird little problem with Photoshop CS3 this morning: I was having a problem with

1) drop-down menus were not not staying down,
2) a third part plug-in called "Aurora 2.0" from Digital Element would not run, and

3) the "Open Recent" options would neither open a selected file nor would it update the listing after a manually opened file was saved and closed.

All these troubles started after an automatic update for the RAW support functions (for digital photography). Called the 1-800 support number and after verifying I had a legal copy I was transfered to a Photoshop specific support rep who was able to help me fix the problem in under 10 minutes!

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Photoshop may be expensive, but it's well worth the money and Adobe's commitment to helping their customers is fabulous!
Had a little accident the other day and slipped down a short flight of stairs. Skinned the shit our of one knee, and managed to severly hyper-extended the other which needless to say really f*cked up the ligaments and tendons. I'm lucky I didn't break the damn knee. It's been a week and I'm just now to the point where I can stand on my right leg a little and sort of hobble around. Up 'til now all I've been able to do is sit propped up on the couch and keep off of it.

And there really isn't anything the doctors can do about it. Nothing's broke or torn, just severly strained. So the only thing that can really be done with it is stay off of it and give it time.

Talk about being bored out of your skull! And of course the weather outside is beautiful. Bright, crisp late summer/ early fall New England days, delighfully chilly nights. Perfect weather for working out in the yard, going for long walks and I can't do anything but look out the window. Can't even work on any of my new sculptures because my work room is down in the basement.

And to think there are some people for whom lounging around all day and doing nothing but watching television is their idea of heaven. It's driving me batty! And I can't even waste time one the computer because my knee won't tolerate being bent while sitting in a chair for more than 20 minutes or so. Then it's a handful of pain meds and another 30 minutes waiting for the throbbing an burning to stop. But that's still more than I was able to do last week.

Hopefully by this time next week I'll be back to something close to normal. There won't be any long walks for a while, but I'm hoping to at least be able to hobble my ass down stairs and get back to work. The big October craft fair is less than a month away and I need those sculptures done!

*********************************************

I've already gotten a complaint about the new website.
Specifically someone expressing disappointment that many of the older
pictures were removed from the galleries. Basically, I removed most
pictures more than 3 years old. This was done for two reasons: to make
room for new pictures in the coming year and to keep the galleries from
becoming too unwieldy. The layout of the site is the same, the navigation
is the same and more than half of the art is still there.

Deciding which pictures to keep and which to remove wasn't easy. Even
though they don't reflect my (hopefully) improved skills, I am still very
fond of them. Most artists I know routinely remove older works from their
galleries as their skills and techniques improve. That someone would use
that as their reason to say "I don't like your site anymore" seems strange
to me.

But what is an artist to do? You can't please everyone. If the decision to
remove a few pictures is going to cause someone to not like my website any
more, so be it. I hope they will come back and see the new pictures I will
be uploading in the coming months, but if they don't... *shrugs*... oh,
well. I would wish them happiness in the new year.

*********************************************
Or worse... steletto heels? I know there's that whole "artistic liscense" thing, and that it's "fantasy" but come on! It's hard enough to just *walk* in those damn things let alone trying to FIGHT in anything higher than a normal 1-2 in boot heel. I mean look at this "mod's Choice" picture from Elfwood: [link]

Yeah, the picture is very well done and all that, but look at them heels... and in the freaking SNOW no less. I bet that one on her butt probably fell off them damn heels and that's why she looks so pissed off. And I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the blood she's wiping off that sword is belongs to the idiot who decided those moronic boots were *just* the thing the stylish "lady" warrior should be wearing on a winter hunt.

If people are going to shoot for being as realistic as possible with anatomy, body posture, etc how about applying a little common sense with regards to wardrobe, okay? I've given up protesting "warrior women" fighting in little more than chainmail bra and panties (gag), but fighting in high heels it just too much, damnit!

*********************************************

I've had a couple of people ask how long it takes to make a sculpture or what makes them worth "such a pretty penny." When I tell them what goes into making one and the amount of time and work involed I get "Wow... didn't know that much went into it" or "Gee, I guess there's more skill involved than I thought" (Ya think?!)

And my favorite: "Wow, that's a lot more work intensive than my grade school clay working!" No sh*t, Sherlock!

Do people really think artists just wave a wand and "poof" there's a new sculpture? A new picture? Don't they realize it's called artwork for a reason?

*********************************************

This is something I got into a discussion about on another forum regarding "art theft" or more accurately the unauthorized display of one's art on someone else's website or in a "free gallery" such as Photobucket and thought I'd see what ya'll thought about it.

Mood: Curious

To be honest, I'm at 6's and 7's about the whole thing. Yes, as an artist I would like to have total control over when and where my art is displayed, but I know that's not even remotely possible without taking the step of never letting my art see the light of day. There are methods one can employ to keep others from being able to easily download your art from your own website, but if you have a gallery here, or on Elfwood, or devientArt, etc. you're probably S.O.L. in that regard.

But even those methods for blocking people from downloading material from your own website can be circumvented by someone determined to save a favorite picture to their computer and uploading it somewhere else. Let's face it... the only way to keep your art safe from unauthorized reproductions it to never share it with a living soul and definately to never post it online.

On the other hand unauthorized reposting can have some positive benefits if you're conscientious about making sure your copyright information is prominently displayed on any material posted online... something I'm a BIG fan of. And I'm not talking about a small, obscure signature scribbled in a corner.

Now, I know a lot of atrists are concerned about "spoiling" their art with a big copyright notice but if done right, it doesn't have to detract from the image. If I may be so bold to use one of my own pictures as an example: "Perspective" [link]

The copyright contains all of the relevant information about the picture and the artist, is positioned so it can't be easily cropped or otherwise edited out, but also doesn't detract (IMO) from the essence/subject of the work.

A copyright notice such as this serves a couple of purposes:

1) it reduces the chances that someone else can easily take credit for your work; and

2) anyone who sees the picture posted on someone else's site and would like to see more from the original artist can just "google" the person's name and find their website or other online gallery. You can even facilitate people being able to find you easier by incorperating a URL into your copyright notice.

So... how concerned should we be about unauthorized display of our works on someone else's site? Think it's a great way to get free additional exposure? It is a compliment? I know many amatuer artists who lament that their own work isn't "good enough to be stolen"

Is it truly 'theft" or just bad manners?

The EbonDragon's Lair [link]

Well, I finally did it. Finally decided to buy a deviant subscription for one year. It's not a bad deal, and it's a lot friendlier here than Elfwood. And I like not having to worry about my submissions being "approved" nor being limited to just one upload per day unless you pay, and all that other rot.

This really is a great website, and while I may not have the time to really get into the whole community thing with the forum and all that, I do appreciate all the things deviantArt make available to the artist community. So in honor of the 5 year anniversary, what better way to show my appreciation than by buying a subscription

The EbonDragon's Lair: [link]

This summer I've added a whole new line of stuff to my booth here in town. I'm doing bookmarks, smaller hand-made journals, and storage boxes. So far it looks like this might actually be a decent year (crosses talons).

I've also bought a collection of new plug-ins for Photoshop through a company called DigitalElements. They and other plug-in developers put together a plug-in package worth over $900.00 and are offering it as a May special for only $200.

(Expires May 31, 2004: [link])

It was such a great deal I just couldn't pass it up! I can't wait for it to arrive so I can start playing with it.

As for what else is going on with me... not much. I'm writing, drawing, trying to come up with new products to sell in my booth, trying to promote my website and online shop... nothing really exciting I'm afraid. But still, it keeps me occupied and out of trouble... and makes me a little extra money. Hopefully that "little extra money" will grow into something more siginficant. I doubt if I will ever get to the point of getting rich off my art, but I wouldn't mind turning it into something profitable.

Only time will tell, I guess...

Wow, who would have thought that putting together a little thing like an online store would be so hard. Well, not really hard but time consuming. 25 different pictures, 7 journals, 5 clocks and a set of blank note cards all requiring their own "add to cart" button from PayPal!

I even went and got my own business license and a business checking account to help make this a genuine business venture and not just a hopeful little hobby. Now if I can just get people who are willing to buy something to come by and go shopping!

*sigh*

Well, EbonDragon Productions (TM) has only been "open for business" for a short time (less than 2 weeks) so I guess I just have to be patient and wait.
Thoughts from the EbonDragon...
---------------------------------------Okay then... I've heard about Deviant Art for a while and recently decided to join. I have my own website where my art is displayed and where I have a small online store. You can buy lilited edition, 8 X 10, framed prints, as well as hand made journals, wall clocks and note card... all featuring some of my favorite pictures. If you're interested please visit the EbonDragon's Lair here: [link]

I only have a few of my pictures uploaded so far, but that'll change. But right now I guess I should tell you a little about me:

I first started drawing Dragons back in September of 2000 after stumbling across an online tutorial. Once I started getting what I considered reasonably decent at it, I began trying my hand a coloring them in Photoshop 4.0.

I must say those early efforts were more than a little... rough. But I stuck to it and as Photoshop progressed and improved, so did I. Heck... I'm even slowly getting to where I don't feel guilty or presumptious calling myself an artist, even if I do realize I still have so much to learn.

I've been told that my style is unique with bright, vivid colors, which is something I've always strived for. I have been criticized by some for not drawing subjects other than Dragons, but hey... everyone is entitled to their opinions!

I have found that in my art, as with other aspects of my life, I have to be interested in something before I can do anything with it.

I like Dragons. I am fascinated by them and so that is what I draw. Maybe one day I'll find something else that inspires me they way Dragons do and expand my work to include other critters or themes. But for now I'm happy to stick with my Dragons and hope they bring a little bit of pleasure to those who view them.
