Hey there, me again. Just another question concerning my project if anyone has any answers that's grand! i keep meaning to put new work up but getting sidetracked by dissertations and parties and work and so on. hopefully soon!

anyways, back to the theme of 'Home' again, do any of you have any idiosyncrasies/routines that you go through at home that you wouldn't when in other peoples homes/presence? (this can really be anything, just basic daily routine, to constantly checking things are switched on/off in an OCD kinda way, something that i do alot...)

Thanks, any replies are welcome, thanks again in advance, i hope to maybe produce a book that looks at 'routine' when it comes to the idea of home.

hey guys, i know i already mentioned this once. didn't i? anyways here is my idea. im probably gonna start up a really crude site if anyone is actually interested?

This is an arts project that I am looking to start up based on the inspirational work "Trains of Winnipeg" by Canadian Artist Clive Holden, the work consists of poetry, film, music and so on. visit [link] to find out more, i promise you won't be disappointed. (the weakerthans are involved in ToW too...how could that be bad!?)

So here it is. my idea. I think that anyone and everyone should be able to contribute to this beautiful idea and create a body of astounding work, in homage I guess to the original. I'm looking for anything, music, writing, poetry, illustration, animation, video art, anything. I'm looking for like minded people who are passionate about this work like I am.

anyways. if you are interested...mail me at johnalanbirch@hotmail.com . thanks.
also, i'm really chuffed! i made it into the Artists and Illustrators magazine with Mr.Eraser and an image from my artists book "Fear" WOOHOO! i got the phone call the other day, and i almost didn't answer the phone because i thought that maybe it would be O2 or some call centre...i'm glad i did answer it though

Hey everyone, long time since i've written a journal because of having soooooo much work that it hurts. just finished doing a childrens book project which I was pretty happy with, hope to get some images up from that soon. Also did a two day project with a guy called jonny hannah, who is most definitley the smartest guy i've ever seen, i seriously thought he'd walked out of a movie from the 20's or something...although he (sadly) wasn't in black and white, anyways you should all check him out [link] .

Sooooooo, christmas is coming up and i'm looking forward to seeing my friends and being a lazy fucker for a couple of weeks (which, even if i say so myself, i feel like i deserve.) but i've got a few things going on, i sent some work in for a magazine article about student illustrators, designers and alike...which is out in february so i'll have my fingers crossed for the next couple of months until i hear back from them.

Also a couple of weeks back i discovered an art project from a few years back called "Trains of Winnipeg" by Clive Holden (along with people like John K. Sansom, Jason Tait and Christine Fellows) and you can download a cd from the site [link] and it's mainly poetry and prose spoken over music, beautiful.

Anyways, long story short i emailed him and proposed he make ToW an open project that people can add things to and he said he'd consider this! although if he didn't he said it's cool for me to start it up. so i'm looking at starting a project called "Trains to Anywhere" which i want everyone i know to be a part of...anyways check out his work and let me know if you are interested.

So, attempt number two at trying to do my journal, started to fill it out last night, was pretty long too, and then deviantart just said there was a problem. crap.

So i've had a pretty cool week, little bit hectic what with uni work and all that but keeping on top of it all which makes it all better. just going to have a nice relaxing weekend, do a little bit of art, maybe a comic, just in a good chilled out mood. should really get some research done on my uni project too though.

so this week I also learnt how to use illustrator, and have done my first illustrator piece (OMG!) which isn't awesome but i'm happy with it and will probably be doing a bit more work on illustrator from now on.

I also found out today that Mr.Eraser has reached 1,000 favourites which i'm pretty amazed by! and just want to say a big thanks to EVEEEERRRYYYYYONE who favourited him, he's very thankful to. oh and thanks to my awesome girlfriend ( [link] )for suggesting him to the nice deviantart peoples. i ALSSSSO found out this morning that Mr.Eraser has FANART! which again is super-awesome, it's a comic by TekStation ( [link] ) done with photography rather than drawn which i think looks pretty cool. (check it out.) oh and i've drawn a new mr.eraser cartoon today which i should bput up on monday.

so i'm off to have the laziest weekedn i possibly can, taking into account i should really get some work done.

thanks again everyone!
Peace Out.

Looking for some ideas for my comics

Listening to: Eli, The Barrow Boy - The Decemberists

Hey there peeps! really in the mood to get some comics done, so i just thought I'd ask for some opinions from people. Firstly look at [link] , basically i'm wanting to do a few more comics based on odd little sayings like this one. Really eager to get started but having a bit of a block as for coming up wiht any good sayings (already been given "an apple a day" which i think could be a pretty good comic. oh and "mind your p's and q's"...does anyone actually know what the hell that means.)

so yeah if you can think of any that you think may be good just reply to this post muchly appreciated.

oh i also thought of..."there are plenty more fish in the sea"

Peace out.

WOOOOW. well i've been back at home in Wallasey for the summer, partying and working and not having the internet, so i was amazed to find when I came back to Dundee yesterday and checked my deviantart and so on that i had a daily deviation! I'm spo made up I may even have to treat myself to a new eraser not just so that Mr.Eraser will live on forever...although a terrible thing happend when I was back home...i've been learning to play guitar and...Mr.Eraser may have accidently been impaled and split in two by a plectrum...oh well, he's still smiling!!

I just wanetd to say a massive thank you and a shout out to everyone who has commented and favourited Mr.Eraser I wish I had the time to comment back to everyone but i've got uni work to be getting on with.

over the summer i did'nt get a chance to do an awful lot of work but i have done two new comics which I will put up as soon as possible.
Peace out.

Went to see Hellogoodbye, Eisley and Taking Back Sunday Last night...possibly one of my least favourite gigs ever...

Hellogoodbye were frickin' amazing and I'm glad my girl finally got to see them, she was so made up(they're her favourite band)...and she got a plectrum!!!

but yeah anyways...i just hate what the "scene" has become. the place was full of drunk kids...emo kids at that (obviously). i'm not a huge TBS fan but there were so many drunk kids...and i don't really wanna make a sweeping generalisation but those kids suck...it's not what gigs are about...go for the fucking music. i mean why pay 16 pounds to go see a band and get so hammered that you don't even remember a thing? i don't think i've ever been that drunk at a gig. maybe it's a sign of me getting old or something i guess but i just wanted to enjoy a few bands and not have this horrible spectacle going on around me. the first aid stand was just packed with kids throwing up and i kept looking over and thinking that's not what the first aiders are there for so I went over and expressed my appreciation for the saint john's ambulance people...just said they were doing a great job, but in the end i think that they just thought i was another drunk.

maybe i'm getting old.

maybe i'm not punk rock.

it just made me feel a bit sick.

the emo kids are making a joke of rock.

apologies for the rant (those of you who read this)

(okay so i'm not headed home yet but anyways...)

Hey people, Pretty much finished at uni now and everything seems to be calming down a little which is nice. got my feedback from this semester's work and I got a B3 (up from a C2 last semester) so I'm pretty chuffed, just have to wait and see how the essay went. It's so weird not having any work to do, all we are doing now is helping out 4th year illustration students sorting their degree show, which is fun...because we get to design and make a themed bar...it just sucks that not too many people are helping.

So my plans for the summer are pretty simple...staying in dundee for the rest of the month (going to see Taking Back Sunday and Hellogoodbye on the 26th) and then heading back down to merseyside on the 31st...so as I can enjoy a chilled out, getting drunk, having bbq's, watching the world cup month or so with my family...don't know how much work i'll post over this time...i'd like to think i'll do lots. but then again it's easy to say that now...it's a different story when you're hungover. we'll see

then i'm thinking of moving back up to dundee july/august sometime (not decided yet) and looking for a job (i neeeeeeed moneys)....

anyways, sorry for the ramblings...hope that everyones work/exams are going well and enjoy your time off this summer!!!
Hey everybody, i'm going home to liverpool this weekend (well i say liverpool i actually mean wallasey...but not many people will know where that is...) Taking my jen down to see the sights of liverpool (gutted that the weather forecast is pretty goddamn crappy though...but i'm sure we'll still have fun).

Made myself a few small books this week while working on this book project, and even made myself a sketchbook which i'm pretty proud of! got all different kinds of paper in it yay... still keeping my non-diary, and will probably post a few bits and pieces from it next week.

got some good ideas for comics and bits of work from it so i'm glad i started writing my ideas and thoughts down (would strongly recommend it to anyone who doesn't already do it.)

hope that all of you have good weekends

had a pretty quiet day and weekend, stayed in, chilled out, watched films and drank wine... my kind of weekend to be honest. i am currently making a book in university and spent this morning refining a few images from that (hence the new pieces of work on my deviantart) hope that people like them.
Just about to go and make food, enjoy your week people.
