::News::

I've decided to close two of my stores. As of december 31, my stores at Poser Pros and CG Odyssey will be no more. It was very difficult to write the letters, but it's done and it had to be. I just can't keep up.

I might even close all four - I don't know yet - I'll probably try making a product or two and see how I'm feeling and then decide. Maybe I can properly keep up with two, maybe not.

This d@mn body of mine is forcing me to make some difficult decisions. I've always enjoyed making the products, and I certainly don't mind selling - but when I start preparing for packaging and look at 4 stores with 4 sets of promos (different sizes, different "looks" for the stores) I just get exhausted and bogged down.

I can't even remember the last time I did a render that wasn't store related. I know I've said that before, but now I'm doing something about it. Maybe with just 2 stores active I can handle it. If not, I'll just close them all and satisfy my wish to make things by creating freebies.

Freebies are so much easier. Not that I put less work into the actual textures, etc, but a free pack can contain just one or two texture sets, while putting the same up for sale requires a minimum of 6 to compete, and then trying to make the promos professional and competitive to catch the eye. Freebie promos can be simpler - just show the articles, people will be happy enough to see what's in the pack - and after all, it's free, and that makes people feel good and so makes me feel good.

I better stop or I'll talk myself out of my last two stores...
I've been wanting to put a perso gallery on my site for years - was always afraid of the interface. But then I found JAlbum and it was easier than I thought.

My Site is finally complete!!!

I re-did the backgrounds, added another tutorial, put up proper menus (thanks to Xara Menu Maker) and I finally have a site that suits me. Granted, it's not your typical modern site - I have no idea what it looks like to others, all i know is that it suits me and who I am and so I am happy with it.

Anyway, the link is below, as well as direct links to the two (yes, two!!) tutorials. Organizing Content using External Runtimes is the latest. I really need to update the Daz Studio Beginners Tutorial, but I'm waiting until version 2 comes out. It's still workable, of course, but so much has been added to Studio that I really want to re-do it to reflect that - but I will keep it at the beginner level, of course.

Stop by the site if you have a moment, and the inclination. If not, well, don't. I'm happy to have it done - finally!

Meanwhile I'm trying to figure out what I want to do next... so many options, so little time!

All the best to you, my friends. Be well and happy this holiday season, and don't forget to take time out to just enjoy!

::Thoughts::

I've noticed a trend lately, at least in a certain marketplace, a certain progression in the size of textures used for both character skins and Clothing items - (this is in the Poser universe, for those who need clarity) While it's always good to know the size of the textures involved, it seems to have become a kind of competition, as if Bigger is Better, and "mine are bigger", more detailed, thus better than the average. The funny thing is, using clothing textures as an example, when the average texture size was 1024x1024, suddenly we started getting merchants displaying "2000x2000!" - bigger and better. Rather quickly (at least it seemed quick to me) this progressed to 3000x3000!. That one lasted awhile it seems - but now the "going rate" seems to have upped to 4000x4000.

Aren't we getting a little carried away here, folks? I mean, sure, 4000x4000 is a lot of room to put detail - but when it compacts down into the actual Poser dress or outfit, just how visible is that detail? HOw close do you think people are going to be in making their renders. And how big will these renders be?

Yes, I know - prints are better at 300 dpi, so you need a big render to make a good print, and the higher the resolution on the clothing items, etc, the better it will look.

But - is it really necessary to go so high? What does this do to our machines, our programs? Even if you are importing these characters and textures into a more powerful program for rendering, it seems it wouldn't take a whole lot of these textures to bog down the rendering speed, even the capacity of the rendering program. Oh sure, such programs are improving - but how fast? And how many of us have the funds to upgrade our computers and buy these new programs that are necessary for such high quality renders?

I'm a hobbyist. I like my art to be fun, enjoyable, maybe say something, maybe not. I want it to be accessible and easily rendered. The 4000x4000 textures are beautiful in most cases - but rather useless if my machine gets bogged down or Poser tells me I've got too much to render.

As a creator, vendor of clothing textures, I usually go by the templates that come with the clothing item - but even those seem to be increasing in size. Okay, so i can maybe handle a 3000x3000 if it's for a character texture - but I personally prefer the clothing textures I make to be smaller. Does that make my texture sets less desirable? So be it. I'm not in this to compete, I'm doing it for the pleasure - and I don't care for the idea of texture sets being judged by the size of their templates.

I'm just wondering where it will stop? I'm thinking perhaps the 4000x4000 may be the cap, the limit. I know I prefer smaller textures and if I see that all of the textures for an outfit are that size, well, I'm likely not to buy it no matter how beautiful it is - because I like my renders to render in a reasonable amount of time, and I like being able to manipulate characters and objects in the scene without the program slowing down to a crawl.

Yes, I do know that you can set the maximum texture size in Poser so that even if the actual textures are larger, it won't go beyond your limit. But in that case, whats the point?

I'm watching with interest. Either the next round will be 5000x5000, or, perhaps some will begin to realize that bigger is not always better, and we'll start seeing it move back and stabilize at 3000 or even 2000 (well, I doubt that, but maybe 3000).

Meanwhile, I'll just continue making mine as i please - and hope that the templates come in reasonable sizes.

Have a great weekend,

::What do you say::

... when you have nothing to say?

Every now and then I get like this - it's so easy to withdraw, to dive into my computer and work on organizing and doing busy stuff. Gives me a good excuse to stay away - "Sorry, been so busy!"

Well, I have been busy! Busy getting my computer set up like I want it, finally getting Runtimes organized in yet another way, much easier to work with, and trying to work on my site.

But... do I have nothing to say because I lack the time? Or do I manage to create so many things to do, so I have an excuse to say nothing?

Don't get me wrong - I enjoy communicating. I love the friends I've made here and elsewhere on the net. My fingers can literally fly across the keyboard, expressing my thoughts almost before they form in my head.

But sometimes I just feel ... silent.

So if I'm not posting much at the moment, well, yes, I am busy, but also, I just need to be "away" for awhile.

And I guess that's all I have to say about it.

::News::

Okay, in my enthusiasm, I joined a few fractal clubs - mainly because I do want to keep track of them, and it's easier if you have a thumbnail to click on, rather than going to search. The only problem is, they end up filling my watching box with so many of their members work that I cannot possible keep track, and it puts some of my good friends work on back pages, so I have to scroll through to find them.

What to do? I enjoy looking at these sites, getting their posts when something new happens, and I enjoy strolling their galleries and commenting occasionally when I find something extra nice.

I just prefer not to have all the images sent to my watching box. Make sense?

I know I may not be thinking clearly, but is there a way to keep the links to these places handy so I can visit and still get their journal posts - but NOT receive all the gallery posts? Some code or something I can check? It may be something obvious, I'm really not thinking clearly enough to tell.

I've been really busy lately - to the point that I can tell it is taking a toll physically, but my mind won't let me stop! I just finished a new tutorial, but can't upload it yet, because I'm in the middle of re-structuring and re-constructing my site. And I'm trying to get at least one product created for the stores, as I haven't done anything new all summer.

In the middle of all that - I just bought a new Hard Drive, 500Go, and a new Graphics Card, so I need to install them this weekend. And that brings forth another question ... I plan to keep all my downloads, etc, on the bigger drive, and keep the smaller drive just for running programs. I figure if I move most of my content to the other drive, it will free up some space and the programs should run smoother. Not sure why I think that, it's really not disk space that makes a diff, it just seems too full to me. (only 50 Go free from that 250Go original)

Anyway, my mind is telling me to go ahead and reformat, get the registry, etc, all cleaned out rid of all the junk. I have everything saved on an external drive - and on dvd's for that matter. So it would probably just take a couple of days - probably be done by Monday.

But my mind is also saying, no don't do that, work on the site instead, and just run some registry cleanup programs, you don't need to start over.

Always my problem, btw. I never can make up my mind - at least not when there are two events conflicting for the same time period. Doesn't happen often, but it does happen. I think I know what I'll end up doing - reformatting - just for the peace of mind afterwards.

Oh, lol - I also need to find a new antivirus program! Mine runs outnext month and I do NOT want to continue with McAfee - it uses far too many resources when it's running.

Okay, I just came in here to babble, obviously - probably talking to myself more than anything else, so you'll just have to excuse my ramblings.

But I also wanted my friends to know that if I'm not visiting much or commenting, it's because I'm totally distracted by everything else, and just don't have the energy to go wading through all those pages and pages of Club Galleries.

Hugs to all! :huh:
If you haven't yet been to DDU be sure to stop by their DA site regularly and see what's up - better yet, stop by the store! [link]

I have to take a moment to express my gratitude to their great staff:
Char, Brandy, Neesa, and Mel (Owners) Isa and Diana (Admins) Thank you so much, ladies, you've come a long way!

DDU started out small, but has been growing ever since, and has become a name that is now recognized by many - not by chance, but by the hard work of the staff, who have striven to make a comfortable place to shop with plenty of variety - and who have put their enthusiasm and heart into making sure DDU gets the exposure needed to become what it is today. Recent information showed that they have attained the number 4 spot in sales at Content Paradise! Way to go DDU!

So thank you ladies, not only for this feature, but for making DDU a place that I am truly proud to be a part of!

::News::

Well, lol, a first for me! I've been tagged by Thanks, Neesa - I think!

So here we go:

The Rules:
1. Post these rules.
2. Each person tagged must post 8 random (hopefully interesting) facts about themselves.
3. Tags should write a journal of these facts.
4. At the end of the post 8 more bloggers are tagged and named.
5. Go to their page and leave a comment telling them that they're tagged.

Random facts about judee:

1) You can take the girl out of Texas, but you can't take Texas out of the girl. I was born and raised in the Lone Star State. Lived there until I was 30 at which point I was whisked away by a Swiss man, and I've been living in Switzerland for the past 25 years. Almost half my life! But as much as I feel at home here, Texas will always be "Home" to me.

2) I have two beautiful brilliant bi-lingual daughters and am very proud of both of them!

3) I have an ex husband (yeah, the Swiss)- after 17 of marriage he decided to make another family. But he still takes care of us financially, which is a blessing - and he is close to his daughters, and amicably tolerated by me, lol.

4) I am a Writer pretending to be an Artist. Why? Long story and way too much typing to post! But I do love doing the art. When I'm not busy making stuff to sell or learning new programs, lol!

5) I love architecture and designing homes - in the Sims! Haven't done it in a long while - since about two computers ago. Now my daughters have Sims 2 and I keep wanting to install and play with building - but never seem to find the time.

6) I spend most of my day (and night) in front of the Computer. I have a tall back chair that inclines about 30%, and I sit with my legs up on the front part of my corner desk, two screens, one on each side of my feet, lol! Cordless mouse and keyboard and tablet are all close at hand. (The other side of the desk is to my right so I can easily do the mouse.) This is where I live. Literally. Aside from running errands, getting groceries, or doctor appointments, this is where I spend my day, and yes, I even have my meals here. ;D And I still feel like I never have enough time?? Yep.

7) I eat very little - maybe one meal a day, usually around 4 or 5 pm, then my secret sin, a midnight snack of Ice Cream! My current favorite is Cinnamon Sugar ice cream - reminds me of the cinnamon toast I used to eat as a kid.

8) Already? And here I didn't think I'd make it to 8. So what profound secret of life can I leave you with? Perhaps one of my favorite phrases will do: "It's all in how you look at it." Life is perception. Everything. Every experience we have is interpreted through a unique perspective made up of who and what we are. Life is a somewhat abstract, sometimes surrealistic painting that each person interprets according to their own point of view. It really is all in how you look at it.

And so it is!

Now, I'm supposed to tag someone - er, 8 someones! Several of my friends have already been tagged, so I'll see what I can come up with:

::News::

Yes, I did! I did this! Okay, so I had a LOT of help from I've been using one of her generously distributed journal templates, but decided it would be a challenge to do my own. So, I followed her tutorial here:

After reading, re-reading, not quite understanding the why's of certain values, I just put my trust in her good teaching skills and gave it a try. I ended up adjusting a couple of values to better suit my Journal templates, but I got it working! At least, in Firefox, that is. Lol, I haven't looked at it in IE yet - so if it's squinchy here or there, it's Microsoft's fault, not mine! ;D

Oh and btw, if you are not seeing my new avatar/icon, do the Ctrl/F5 refresh thing, cause I've changed it.

Anyway, this here new journal look is yet another tribute to my summer of spontaneous fun. It's really quite nice - each day is pleasantly filled with things I enjoy doing - and so, when there are things that need doing just by the force of situational ethics, like carpooling kids, or paying bills - whatever it may be - I do it without feeling put upon. Because I know that once those everyday musts are taken care of, I will then spend my free time fully, doing what I feel like doing within the moment. Saves a lot of wasted time, believe me.

Do what you must do, and ignore what you "should" do. Then just do what you want to do.

That's what I did. And just look at what I did!!

Hugs to all my friends and watchers!

::News::

Well, I would like to say I've progressed a lot since my Re-Format, but that would be untrue.... Yes, I transferred all of my files over. But when it comes to installing programs, other than a few simple but necessary computer games, I'm stuck at the beginning of the alphabet with Apophysis. Not a bad place to be stuck, mind you - and I admit the term "stuck" is perhaps an exaggeration. I'm not stuck at all. I'm playing. ;D

It's the fault of Microsoft, of course. Windows (XP), by default, puts files in alphabetical and numerical order. And since my "My Documents" folder is where I keep literally everything, including all the program zips and exe's, well it's normal that I start at the beginning.

Apophysis... there are so many fantastic fractal artists in this community. Re-installing Apophysis and hunting down scripts and plugins has brought back how fascinating it is to create fractal art! And how easy it is to spend long stretches of time looking for the right balance, the right color combo, the right sense of form and movement that says just what I want. And so what? I've got time - plenty of it, even if it seems like each day ends far too soon.

I'm not much of a "should" person. Oh, I hear the "shoulds" whispering in their corner, trying to draw my attention to them. "You should create a new product for the stores..." "You should update your Tutorial for the new version of Daz Studio..." "You should learn CSS for your DA journal..." "You should decide how you want to re-do your site and get to work on it..."

And on and on, "should should should" Bah! Sure, I hear them. I just don't let them bother me. I'll probably get around to doing all of those things - eventually. Meanwhile, I go with the flow, follow the spirit of the moment. I ask myself what I want to do, and then I actually do listen to the answer. It's really a very refreshing way to live.

Now I really should put up some of my recent Apophysis creations...

::EXEcution COMplete!

I think my computer needs Dr. House. It's in BIIIG trouble, that's for sure. I really thought I had until August. After all, two years in a row my HD goes blitz and I figured this year wouldn't be that different. So I've been Saving stuff in preparation. (See my previous journal entry - Be Prepared) I had noticed it was a bit buggy lately, and the last scan for malware I ran found a worm in my startup files, with no instructions how to remove it. So I decided to just.. delete it.

Big Error. Next time I booted up, what did my eyes perceive? Strangeness on the desktop! All of my desktop icons (other than folders) had turned into a generic icon and had a .lnk attached to them. Not only that, they didn't work. I tried changing them to .exe - still didn't work. That is when I discovered that NONE of my .exe files worked. Nada. Zero.

Of course, as you can see, I can still get on internet - though I have no idea if my anti-virus is working - well, I think it is, cause I got a yellow pop-up once asking permission for something. But I can't launch the program to see, cause it's an .exe file, after all.

I found several "solutions" on the net - go to Start / Run and type in regedit, or msconfig, or this or that. Guess what - they don't work either! Okay.. so go into your files and change regedit.exe to regedit.com. Did that - .com doesn't work either.

Lots of articles on the net. Even a few fixes - but they all require getting into the registry, which I can't. Try it in Safe mode? Sure - still doesn't work. You have no idea how many programs are dependent upon the .exe to run!

Not to mention all of my Daz files. Grr.. why oh why must they use exe files instead of zips!

So - I had gotten through about half of my Poser files on backup - checked my external drive, and it had the same problem. I'm assuming it's a registry command and if it gets fixed, the exe files will work again - all of them. This isn't one of those viruses that kills the exe's completely - I checked them out - they still have volumn, size, information waiting to be Exe'd. The just won't exe.

So, since they were already corrupt on the External Drive I went ahead and saved the rest of my Poser files, and everything else I could think of. I figure at least I'll have all the zips up to date, and if I have to re-download the exe's so be it.

According to most of the articles I managed to google, it's probably a virus that changes the registry, so if you fix the registry, then you can run your virus scan and fix the virus. makes sense. But I can't get into the registry to fix it and the one "fix" I got fr0m mickeysoft did what it was supposed to do, but still didn't fix the problem.

For awhile I did wonder whether it was a real virus, or if I had simply killed the wrong registry entry - if the program that was called a "worm" was actually something important.

But that question was put to rest next time I re-booted. Now, when I re-boot, the comp goes through all its regular boot stuff, then just before the Windows screen appears, it stops at a black screen with one simple window in the middle and an "okay" button to press. Amd this simple window has several chinese letters in the name of it and in the text box - not many, just 2 or sometimes 3. If I try to ignore it and press the red x to remove it - the screen stays black for a few seconds, then it pops up again. The only way I can continue is to press the okay button - then Windows loads as usual, but with all the problems it had before.

Somebody's idea of a joke? I mean, this is not even one of those things where they take over your computer to use the processor for whatever - there is no extra activity going on. And nothing works, so it's obvious I'll have to re-format. (And yes, I was going to anyway, but not under these circumstances!) Point is - this is simply malicious. It's somebody sending out a computer debilitating virus just for "fun". How sick is that?

And for the record, no I didn't click on any strange files - and I don't open attachments even from family unless I know it's coming. This did not come over the email. I got it from a site.

What site? Who knows? Maybe it was pasted onto an image, or an invisible ad (I've got adblockers, but some do get past it) or even attached to the front page of a site, whatever. No idea - but they can now send malicious programs that jump into your computer simply because you click on a link and visit a site.

Nope, lol, not a porn site - they've gone into a wider distribution now. The places I visit on the net are probably very similar to the ones you do. Poser sites, marketplaces, freebie sites, etc. Here. I do have a few mini-game sites I visit too - you know, simple desktop games...

::News::

Two years in a row, I lost my Hard Drive in August - a year apart almost to the day. And I do mean lost - irrecuperable damage. After the first drive crash, I learned my lesson and started backing up on DVD's and even got an external drive. Of course, backing up only works when you actually do it! With the crash last year, I realized too late that my last backup had been in April.

So this year I'm going to be prepared! Yesterday I did a full system scan for drive errors, etc. Of course, it would have been nice if they had mentioned before saying yes for the scan that it would take hours to complete - and no way to stop it. But at least it was done, and my HD seems to be in fine working order.

But that's not enough for me. I'm currently going through my files and saving them to the External Drive - and will probably save some DVD's while I'm at it. August is just around the corner...

Not that I have any reason to think it will happen again. But it's not a bad idea to do full backups fairly often.

What I haven't decided yet is, once I've done the backup... should I re-format? My 250 Go Hard Drive only has 65 Go left on it! Can you believe it? I'm sure some of that at least is junk - yes, I have a registry cleaner, all that, but there are tons of files marked in the yellow zone, meaning, don't delete unless you are sure - unfortunately I have no idea what they are, so they stay there.

I'm feeling an urge to start fresh - re-format, get a nice clean drive, and slowly add programs back while trying to keep the registry, etc, as clean as possible. My goodness, have you ever looked into a registry? It's incredible all the stuff that's in there! And lots of it junk! Leftovers! Space eaters!

So I bet you can guess what I'll be doing... I just have some product promos to finish up and then I'm going to start going through my files, deciding what to keep, saving that, and... yep, Reformat. I figure that maybe if I re-format now, I won't have another August crash.

I don't want to think about all the programs, etc, I'll have to re-install. I'll do that when it's time. Meanwhile, I think this is my way of taking a break from the merchant stuff. I might post a note on that after my formatting - I'm not quitting, just feeling a bit discouraged and uninspired. When that happens, best thing to do is change activities, at least for awhile.

Wish me luck, and hope I don't forget to save something important!
Internet is a wonderful way to make many acquaintances. Sometimes those acquaintances grow into friendships. Friendships that are just as real online as other friendships are offline. Friendships that are precious and valued because they come not from doing things together, but from discussion, talk, communication.

I have a very dear friend here in DA, and I want to give tribute to her art. But not only her art - her love of beauty, her generosity in the community, her genuine interest in people. It may already be obvious who I am talking about:

 Anna Kirsten.

Many of you know her already, but even if you have seen these images, look again. And be sure to look at the large view. I find that her work is the kind that each time you look, you see something new, you "feel" it in a different way. And some of them also have a few semi-hidden surprises that can only be seen on large view.

So take a look into these few examples of the vast creativity of my friend. And check out her gallery for more.

::News::

The other day I was browsing and came across two Dr. House stamps. I almost grabbed them, but didn't have time to add them to my journal and just figured I'd go pick them up later. I made a mental note as to where they were. Now that is forgotten. *sigh* If anyone knows, I'd appreciate the thumb reference. I want to add him to my collection.

Why? Because Dr. House is my Hero. Not because he is so brilliant, not because he can figure out the most obscure of conditions (though I would love to have a doc like that, wouldn't we all.) No it's not that. What makes him my hero is how he deals with his chronic pain problem.

Lower those raised eyebrows. I'm serious here. More than you realize. Yes, he's addicted to pain pills. But without those pills, without that addiction, he would be in terrible pain. So, he pops those pills like candy and to heck with what anyone thinks.

I think one of my favorite episodes was the one where someone bet him he couldn't go off the pills, because he was addicted. He admitted he was addicted, but he took the bet and went off the pills. He went through the whole addictive withdrawal symptoms, shakiness, sweats, horrible stuff. But he did it - he got beyond the body's physical addiction. And what happened after he "kicked the habit"? He was left with excruciating pain.

Because the pain is a permanent factor in his life. And without those pills, without that "addiction" he cannot function.

So yes, Dr. House is my hero. Because he lives with chronic pain, and he does what he can to continue functioning, and to hell with all the rest, or what others might think of him.

Now, you might be asking, why does this make him my hero?

Because I live with chronic pain, and the only way I can function is to take pain medication. I don't pop pills like candy, I stay within the prescribed limits, but yeah, I'm addicted. A junkie. I'm sure if I tried to stop the pills, I would go through all the withdrawal symptoms of an addict. And what would I be left with at the end of it? Pain.

Pain due to a condition that has no "fix" no cure. For the record, and the curious, I was treated with Cobalt Radiation when I was 15, for Hodgkin's Disease. The upper thoracis, cervical and underarm area was blasted with thousands of particles of whatever. That treatment cured me, literally, of what was at that time still considered to be a "deadly" cancer. My life expectancy, with treatment, was about 5 years. Heh, I fooled them didn't I!

Now, many many years later, that area of my body is changing, the muscles are atrophied, the thyroid shriveled down to nothing and had to be removed, tissues are changing on the cellular / molecular level, and they are now talking about some spinal cord damage. Tons of specialists, and they all say the same thing. Nothing to do, the condition is progressive, the damage is irreversible, so just take your pills and accept it.

Btw, I'm just explaining, not complaining. I'm alive and 55 - That's 40 (and hopefully more) years of life extension and certainly nothing to complain about. I know the why of the pain, and I accept it. I'm quite happy to be here! ;D

Most of the time. Until I have a "Flare", and then the pain becomes terribly distracting, because with the flares, I'm dealing with neuropathic pain, the kind of pain that burns and runs like an electrical current all through the body. Not much you can do about that besides hold on and let it pass.

Some of you out there deal with Fibromyalgia, so I know that you know exactly what I am talking about when I speak of flares. And those flares are something that make me think that I also have Fibro mixed in with this other condition. In fact, I was diagnosed with Fibro by a neurologist years ago when the symptoms first started. And that was the "official" label the docs put on my pain, until they found the underlying condition. Then all of a sudden, according to them, the Fibro doesn't exist, it's this condition that causes the pain. Okay... but I think the Fibro does exist and it is that which causes the flares. I don't know why doctors are so reluctant to deal with Fibro - maybe they are better about it in the States, but here in Europe, they still treat it like a psychological condition. And they can't explain the flares. But I can. I know what causes them, and try to avoid them as much as possible, though they still manage to catch me by surprise.

So why am I here talking about all this, putting my pain on display to the public? I'm not sure. Maybe because the doctors have decided to "do something" rather than just leave me in peace with my pills. They've decided I should try some physiotherapy, try to strengthen some muscles to compensate for the ones that are semi-destroyed.

::News::

So... what have I been up to? Wasting time, that's what. But that's okay. Even though time is precious, I think we all need to waste some now and then. Makes us appreciate the time we don't waste that much more.

So, I followed the drama at a certain unnamed site all of last week. (And if you don't know what I'm talking about, good for you!) What a tragedy! I spend a good part of my time reading, trying to keep up with things, wondering how something like that could happen. I feel bad for the victims - and there are more than one. I just hope that some learning has come from this terrible display of Trial by Forum. Forums are not the place for such things. Forums should be places of community and learning and fun. This site in particular has a wonderful Forum, with some great people participating and helping. And though I've never been an active member there, I still plan on visiting and enjoying the reads.

For the record, yes, I was one who pulled their store from the site. And no, I have no plans of returning there as a Vendor. My reasons are my own, and I don't care to get into them other than to say that I was NOT simply following crowd mentality. I thought long and hard before pulling out. And i made my decision based on personal convictions.

Will I return to the site to visit? Sure. Like I said above, there are plenty of great people there. Will I make purchases there? Perhaps. But I will likely limit my purchases to those who are exclusive there. If I can find a particular product elsewhere, I prefer to go.. elsewhere.

Was that week spent ruminating and reading one of wasted time? In a way, yes. Why? Because I understood the implications and ramifications early on. There was no need for me to continue following the threads. But I did. It's that powerful attraction that is built into human nature when a tragedy occurs. We watch, fascinated, horrified even, and we continue to watch as the drama plays out. Perhaps we are simply grateful that it is not happing to us, perhaps we are so trained by tv shows and movies, that we can't look away until we see "the end" on the screen. Problem with this one is that the happy or at least resolved ending never really arrived. And ultimately, maybe that is why I feel the time was wasted...

Meanwhile, I'm back on track and un-wasting my time. Well, mostly. I'm working on getting a couple more products done, and then I think I will take a break and start doing some renders. Summer is coming, and while I won't be spending it outside, at least I can spend it relaxing and having fun with all my 3d and 2d toys.

And browsing. Yes, I think I would enjoy spending some time just browsing different forums and enjoying the art. That is certainly not wasted time, it's one of the best and most enjoyable things I can think of.

There is a new e-zine online, called Art and Prose and it's all about - art, and prose! This one is special folks, it includes tutorials and stories and articles and artists and interviews, and yes, of course, even a freebie. And best of all, it's Free - for now.

So why am I turning this page into what looks like an ad? Well, because my Beginners Tutorial for Daz Studio is being featured in this e-zine! Yep, little ole me!

And that's one of the things I really like about the magazine. It's not like some rather elitist groups where only High Profile people and art get displayed. No, Art & Prose is for us, the everyday artists who are learning and enjoying this new universe of Computer Graphics.

I see art displayed by people I actually know and have talked to, or at least seen and read in different forums. Tutorials by my peers, clearly written so that even I can understand it. Articles that make sense and are interesting to read, and some really great fiction too.

So go check it out and see what you think. Of course, if you are only interested in my Tutorial, you would do better to go to my site and read it and/or download it there. In the e-zine it has been split into several parts, and probably won't be completed for several months.

But there is so much more in this zine, plenty to please you, and you'd be surprised who you might see in there! I really like the combining of art with writing, as both are very special to me. And if you sign up for it now, you can download it free for the first year. I suggest you go for it. This zine is going places, I can feel it.

Oh and they're looking for good writers and artists to feature, so if you think you might be interested, go check out their forum and see what's up.
Not duplicated, no, nothing can quite compare with the real thing - but Art... Art can capture a bit of that moonlight energy and bring it to us through imagery.
For the stamps, I decided to take the plunge and asked my dear friend how to add stamps to the journal and she explained it to me. Lol, okay so it's rather simple, but I really do need some hand holding with some of this stuff! Anyway, thanks, jjean, my sis jan, you've been more than helpful, and in so very many ways!! Which is why I want to feature you and your art.

Well, not just because you are helpful, lol. And not just because you have been such a good friend for many years. But because your art has been an inspiration to me for many years now - I have watched you grow, try new things, develop your own personal style. And if you had not "paved the way" into 3d art, I probably would still be struggling with 2d pixel painting. (Which, as some know, had become more and more difficult for me.)

And, if you and a couple of other friends had not paved the way into DA, I wouldn't be here either!

So, jjean21, jan, my dear friend, you are it! My first experiment in showing a featured artist. (okay, so you're an experiment, but who better to experiment with than the best, right?)

So, to all who pass here, - Scroll down below and take a look at some of my favorites by this wonderful artist and friend!
I hope I put it all in correctly! I'm beginning to get a "feel" for this CSS stuff - just studying what has been done in these and other files so generously offered for our use by DA mambers all over. Thank you to each and every one!

As you may have noticed, I also put up a couple of Bryce pictures. These are two that I occasionally use as my desktop - rather bright, but at least they are cheerful, lol!

I will probably be adding some more Bryce pics in the next day or so, but won't add a journal entry just for that. However, lol, don't be surprised if I end up having a few entries with nothing much to say! I'm enjoying trying out these lovely works of others. And who knows, maybe I will figure out how to eventually do my own!

Meanwhile, I really shouldn't be in here because I'm in the middle of figuring out something having to do with Poser's Material room and it takes all the concentration I can muster.

But hey, I needed a break. And what better place to take a break than right here in DA!
I hope I did this right - thanks to my dear friend AnnaKirsten for the CSS and graphics!!

I had to jiggle a bit with the numbers with spacing - not sure what I did, I just played around til it looked right - at least in preview! If this comes out a mess, well, my preview box is at fault, lol!

I'm jumping in with one other thing - I will be uploading some of my early Bryce efforts. Early as in Bryce 5 and 5.5 but don't worry, there are only 5 of them. If they are not all up very quickly it is because I'm going to be adding them in moments in between other stuff.

Now, I want to affirm here that I never claimed to be an Artist. I love looking through so many of the fabulous artworks here, and honestly, I know my limits - but I'm willing to learn. If I am posing these early works, it is because I will be installing Bryce 6.1 and Vue 6 Pro Studio in the next day or so - and I want these here for comparison purposes, to see if I manage to improve - or not!

Let us all hope so, lol!

I'll probably post some Daz Studio and Poser Renders soon too, but again, I don't want to get too bogged down with the old stuff, so I may limit those to just a few also. Just to have them here in my Deviant Place!

Meanwhile consider this my jumping in with CSS and with some actual Renders. Well, the renders may have to wait til tomorrow, lol - this stuff is complex and my poor little brain is tired!

Journal Graphics © *AnnaKirsten

Okay, I submitted my last two Apophysis images - oh, I've got plenty more where that came from, but I'm not actually playing with Apo lately and just wanted to put up a few of my personal favorites.

Next in line, probably Bryce, because I only have a couple of renders in it, lol. I've had Bryce since version 5, currently have the latest version. And in all this time, only a handful of renders. Yep, that's me. After that I'll be uploading some Poser or Daz works.

Eventually I will get to some new works. If you read the previous Journal entry you will know what I've been up to lately.

Well, aside from the marketing, I've decided that I am going to take some time to just play. Famous last words? I dunno. I really need to just dig into Poser and Daz and just play around with the settings, etc. Daz has come a long way since I first wrote a Beginners Tutorial for it. Lots of new plugins and enhancements. I want to get in there and learn how to use them. Ditto for Poser - the material room, the cloth room, so many things to explore more fully. I can't help but think that learning more about the programs will enhance my use of them, and thus be better for me as a creator of products for others, too.

I also miss making freebies, and think I may concentrate on that for a bit. While it feels good to make things for sale and to actually sell them, there is still nothing more rewarding than making freebies. And I've got way too few of them on my site.

My site... see how my mind works? No wonder I never get anything done! Now I'm thinking about my site and all the work I need to do with it! Oh my...

I think I better stop writing and start doing something, or none of this is going to get don, just talked about!

I keep seeing all of these beautiful CSS Journal pages and am so amazed! Yet here I am with my poor little greytones, lol! I can't seem to catch up. There is just so much I want to catch up on!

Lemme see here - I have downloaded the updates to Bryce 6 and to Vue 6 PS, and still have not installed them. Not to mention the tutorials I have for both programs that I haven't looked at yet!

I have joined two new marketplaces and am currently preparing my products to upload - got some done, more to come. At least on that I am making progress!

I would like to start working on a new product, but until I get the old ones in the stores I can't justify it. Besides, I'm still in the idea stage on that one, lol!

I have to say that becoming a merchant in the Poser Marketplace has been quite an experience. While I have made freebies before, andknew to a degree the amount of work that goes into making the products, I had no idea of the whole "marketing" side of it, or of how important it is to get it right.

Promo pictures, thumbnails, images that will draw people into your store, catch their eye and curiosity - it's as much of the whole market system as making the products themselves - and to be honest, it takes nearly as much time! I really admire the people who can manage to create fantastic products and promos on a regular basis. And I often wonder how they do it!

Ah, but I'm slow, lol. Seems like everything I do lately takes more time - I don't know if it's a reflection of getting older or what. All I know is, I never have enough of it! (TIME). I feel like I'm constantly trying to catch up, and never quite getting there. Meanwhile I do get stuff done, but there is always more on the horizon!

So maybe I should be grateful! At least I'm not bored, wondering what to do with my time. I have plenty to do thanks.

Oh and I just thought of something else to add to the list...

"Anything is possible when you get a round TuiT."

Years ago (before many of you were even born I imagine) my dad gave me a small round button with TuiT written on it. I was maybe 10 or so, can't remember exactly.

I looked at him, puzzled, and asked, "What is this for?"

He smiled and said, "It's for when you want or need to do something, but never can seem to get around to it. Now you have a round TuiT."

I still have that little round TuiT these many years later. And the thought has stuck with me my whole life. I've even dedicated my site to the round TuiT, calling it TuiT Zone.

Because bottom line is, whether it's a chore to be done, or an art project to finish, or just wanting to doodle and let the spirit move - it's all possible. It's all a matter of choice. We "get around to it" when we are ready, when the time is right. And the round TuiT is, for me, a reminder that each of us has, in the present moment, the TuiT-ability to do anything at all.

So today, I "Got TuiT" and started this journal. Because today the moment was right. And tomorrow, or another day, I will get tuit and add some more images. Or render something new. Or just goof off. Whatever. Because the TuiT is present. The moment is now, and the choice is mine. What to do with each moment becomes a matter of listening to one's inner inTuiTion. The TuiT is a symbol, not of procrastination, but of recognition that one cannot do everything at once, and that the only moment to do anything is right here and now. It is up to each of us to inTuiT what is best for the present moment, to recognise that wherever we are, whatever we are doing, it's a matter of choice.

So, get TuiT. Live the moment. Now.
