...is not just a page.  This is a culmination of several months work doing concept art, experimenting with new coloring methods and even applying some more knowledge of textures at the last minute.  This, to me, is the start of a revolution.  Even if Valkyrie tanks and I only put out a chapter or two, my skill set has grown by leaps and bounds and I want to thank everyone for their encouragement and pointers.  Thanks.

Yes, by the beginning of the biggest day of the con, Saturday, I had decided that it would be my last.  My illness was not getting any better and by 11 am, some questionable food I had for dinner the night prior was also taking its toll on me.  I was tired.  So was my volunteer.  So after 2 days at the con, we decided to call it quits early.

I made some interesting contacts, although I think all the people walking in front of my table gave me an acute case of agorophobia.  For the first time in my life, I kind of wanted to crawl into a cave and stay there for a long, long time.

I'm a bad person.  I was late with my comic pages by a day.  Probably two days considering I usually begin the week's updates on Tuesday, not Thursday.  So, yeah, bad Jules.

On the other hand, one of the pages required a little more time than planned and I didn't want to turn out crap in lieu of making an otherwise self-imposed deadline.  I'm beginning to realize that I'm not putting enough effort in keeping my inks/colors clean and I have been trying to address these issues as of late.

I've learned a few lessons from this incident.

Sorry about yesterday's rant.  Sometimes that whole "artist's self-loathing" thing just gets to me and I come to believe that everything I turn out is for naught no matter how much time or energy goes into it.  Argh.  But sometimes the answer is to regroup, replan, and keep on trucking.  The only way I really fail is by giving up.  Heh, little self pep talk there.

I am the recent inductee to a network of webcomics hosted by the Rampage Network.  Their leader host guy approached me to join and have my comic featured as part of their ring.  and I need all the help I can get with promotions.  So I said sure.  Makes me feel kind of important.  I'm not sure yet as to how this network can help me.  I guess I'll ride it out and see.

As of late, my subscription to dev has expired so I can't put as many flashy picturey things up in my journal.  But my question is...does anybody even care?  I'm not sure if I want to spend money on a feature that seems otherwise useless to me.  Someone had suggested that it's worth paying the subscription fee to avoid the ads but so many websites I visit have ads that I don't even notice them anymore.

Just an update on last week's money crisis, it's all been taken care of. The lesson learned is always to use cash only at podunk, non-franchise businesses.

I've noticed I've started to get more comfortable with my pencils.  That and I've learned some major lessons within the last couple of days in terms of drawing out backgrounds.  Bottom line...stick to those damn vanishing points!  They are king in background drawing.  Maybe I'll post a tutorial one of these days on something I've been doing.  I think someone's mentioned inking.  Just...need...to...do it!

Life has been good.  Life has been complicated.  And now those complications are about to get worse.

For those who don't know, non-photo blue pencils is a type of pencil with a blue lead that does not appear when you scan or photocopy it.  The beauty of a non-photo blue is that you can lay down the baselines for your pencilling and then fill in the rest with regular pencils.  My pencils are a bajillion times cleaner and more crisp because of these puppies!

So my morning's been off to a pretty craptastic start.  The first page I pencilled recently got some pretty good reviews, while yesterday's addition was...less than stellar.  Layout problems mainly plagued page 2 and while those problems have been addressed, I feel like I'm sort of hitting the skids.
