Only a few were on disc so I'm ... what's the word? Distraught? Yes. I'm pretty distraught about that. I do have my film still so when I get my new laptop on Thursday I can rescan and re-edit to the best of my abilities.

This is horrific.

In better news, I have a potential buyer for some of my works and he can set me up with a darkroom. Business would be good right now. Laptops aren't cheap.

I also just bought an allegedly mint condition 'never-used' vintage Diana from a reputable e-bay seller. We'll see how it goes but I'm excited so far. I didn't even have to pay for it. My mother loves my nature work so much she wants me to carry two cameras out each time I go - one with color and one with bl/wh so I can get the same shot with two different feels. Good job, mother.

So that's my update for the week. One laptop complete with all files gone, one buyer and one Diana camera gained. I have mixed feelings about how this adds up. Maybe having been wiped clean will give me the chance to start fresh just like with the rest of my life right now. New job, new living arrangements, new marital status, new job, new photography, new ... life? Why that'd be delightful, thank you.

I wrote an awkward little song from the poem I posted if anyone cares to give it a listen: [link]

And, as always, I want to thank you for supporting my works. Thank you thank you.

These are excuses but the point is ...

Thank you to everyone. I appreciated it every time I see a new message that says my work has been added or someone has commented. It helps me keep things in perspective. I'll be back to myself soon enough, lovelies. And I have some new work coming this next week and I can only hope it competes with and exceeds my past work!

Again, thank you for the support!

An edit for 11 April:

CBJJBC has featured me and another fellow (very talented) named Mike in his journal today as well! Most of you will remember a storm that terrorized the Gulf Coast region and threatened to destroy life here as we know it. Unfortunately, though Weather Channel host Jim Cantore was stationed in Gulfport awaiting the storm's landfall which arrived West of him near the Waveland-Bay St. Louis area, the great majority of media outlets only give attention to New Orleans.

My heart and my sympathy go out to the people of New Orleans whose levee system failed, creating a tragedy - most certainly it does. But I'm here today to tell you - and to show you - that the heart of Mississippi is still broken. The once proud main street of Bay St. Louis still looks like a ghost town as you'll see from my photos. I do hope you'll be as stricken by them as I was. I'm not asking you to give any of your money or time here.

I simply want acknowledgment, as one among thousands of Mississippians who stood in her house as it flooded, that Katrina was here, too. And perhaps a moment of silence for those who found the storm surge stronger than their ability to hang on.

that's good enough for me.

I've scrapped the idea of getting a digital camera at this point. I'm sure digital is an inevitable part of The Future but for now I'm going to try my hand at medium format, starting with ... Holga! I placed my order earlier today with Randy at Holgamods. For those of you contemplating a purchase, don't hesitate to contact him with your questions. I e-mailed him twice and after that we talked on the phone for at least half an hour discussing my needs/wants and he even gave me tips on my next camera purchase even though he wouldn't profit from it. Fabulous! How cool are these, incidentally? [link]

They're modified Kievs that are basically as quality as Hasselblads but for a fraction of the price. The crocodile leather with my name engraved will go great with my riding chaps with the leopard-print/name-engraved yoke for when I take it to horse shows, too (I'm a walking billboard of shameless self-promotion and that's okay! Also I'm sure all the different animal hides make me look like some sort of dragon slayer. Oh, sigh.). My old riding coach can laugh at me all he wants. I'll get a great shot straight down his gullet.

I received a short list of very helpful instructions from my friend a friend of mine who is a very talented photographer ... and so I get all excited about aperture and shutterspeed and ISO and other settings and some of those may be the same thing but forgive me, I'm new. Anyhow, so I pick my camera up and to my delight my dinky little point-and-shoot has all these manual adjustments available to me and not thirty seconds into my happy little exploration my batteries die on me. So I'm going to throw on some non-pajamas and run to the store for some more double-A's and possibly some food because, come to think of it, I haven't eaten since yesterday.

Maybe - MAYBE if I can prove my worth on a dinky camera my dad will meet me halfway with the Canon XTi I want to get. And yes I'm 27 and married so that's kind of sad but whatever.
