1) Faust (Faustuts) from "Faust" by Johann Wolfgang Goethe. Pre-romatism, 1808-1832. Story about a guy who sells his soul to get eternal youth and dark magic knowledge and win the heart of Margarita.

2) Ophelia from Shakespeare's "Hamlet". Ca. 1600. We all know Ophelia, don't we?

3) Rodion Raskolnikov from "Crime and Punishment"
by Fyodor Dostoevsky. 1866. It's about an ex-student who wants to check if he possesses a special gift, like Napoleon, to exist outside the mainstream of morality and to be not affected by usual cnstraints such as feeling of guilt or remorse. Therefore he kills an old lady, solving his money troubles btw - and proves that he doesn't posses what he wants. Inspired by Nietzsche and Schopenhauer.

4) Emma Bovary from "Madame Bovary" by Gustave Flaubert, 1856. Emma, raised on romantic books, creates in her mind picture of her life full of all the romantic adventures that she read about. As she craves love and mystery, she finds herself some lovers and in the end commits suicide to be really romantic - but fails even in this, agonising for a whole day after swallowing arsenic.

By the way, thinking about all the emo stuff, ~ForgetfulRainn raised a little discussion on emos and came to a conclusion that, well, emos don't exist. We've never seen any. We've only seen people mocking emos and laughing them out. Have you seen any emos AT ALL?

Man, this is fun stuff. You've no idea what people put into library books. During just one day, I found:
- a little piece of paper saying: SUSZEK, tel. 452-473 (it must be old, cuz for a fer years we have 7 digits in phone numbers)
- a receipt saying that Mr. Z. Kijo paid 90 zl on January 31st 1987. (19 years! it lay in a book!)
- a bookmark, made by of bristol paper, with a lovely tree-pattern; obviously made by a kid
- a set of chemistry excercises, which I can't make tail or head of, it's too difficult.
- a hilarious note saying: "Tunisia won with Mexico 3:1. Argentina - Hungary 2:1. (Two Hungarians got red cards and they left!!!)" It looks pretty old, really, like from 70.? 80.? The paper is already yellowish.
- a postcard from Berlin from a girl called Agnieszka, to a guy. Agnieszka writes there how much she loves the guy and there are 7 red hearts on it. Seems the guy didn't care, as he put it in a book...

Well, I've only just started with this job and I'm expecting more amusement to come.

5 random facts about today's day:

1) My group at studies is still bahaving, hmm, as if they were offended. A week ago I told them they're stupid (not straightforward, but they were clever enought to get that I meant it).

2) Two Jehova witnesses came to my house today. Don't like their visits, because they're so nice, I never have enough courage to tell them I'm not interested. I accepted the newspaper they gave me, but don't intend to read it.

3) I've seen a book by Dean Koontz in the bookshop. Considered buying it (cuz it is somebody's fave author

), but it was way too expensive.

4) One of the guys I teach had today his, umm, how to say, oral part of exam (ustny z polskiego) and didn't call to say how it went, so I'm worried that he might have failed it.

5) 10 minutes after the J-witnesses went, came a woman who was selling eggs. I was in such a terrible mood - and physical condition - that I bought some and then made myself scrambled eggs.

Just for you to know, how the everyday routine looks like.

Umm, nope, you're all wrong. The correct answer is: at 9:00 AM, 9th of May.
That's what happened today (yesterday?) at my beloved university. People wanted to be on the lists they chose SO desperately, they decided to spend a whole day, 24 hours, in front of the office! It is just stupid to meh.
They had hot tea, beer, blankets, food, warm clothes, the organisation was just perfect. All I ask about is - what for?
They even wrote about it in a newspaper, take a look: [link] (it's in Polish of course; those 3 gals on the photo are my friends, from my group).

Stupid. I came there at 8:57 am and signed the list I wanted and there were still places left. Is there anyone to explain me this phenomenon? Do you also have such experiences?

Ok, I know it's a bit of random topic, but it's the spring - now clearly visible - and spiders came back. There are three on my window, one big and two smaller. I named the bigger one Hector. A pretty name, huh?

I was scared of spiders for many years, all with the screamin and runnin away, but since I discovered they're just outside my window I had to choose: go mad or get used to.

Now I think they're pretty cute. Pity they're only there at nights. But if I wake up early enough, I can catch them eatin their breakfasts.
