I'm currently in the pre-production phase of a comic project that's due out later this year. While designing the two male leads has had its issues, nothing has come close to the trouble that designing the leading lady has given me.

For one thing, she's the first character that the reader meets in the story. Meeting her has to be impactful and important. Memorable.

She also has to fill multiple roles within the comic. She's more than simply the eye candy, while still having to be eye candy. There's a lot of character development with her, and the design needs to be flexible enough to meet that need.

And lastly, she's beautiful. Drop dead gorgeous, yet attainable. There's such a fine line that's walked when desiging a beautful woman. If she's too angular, she looks too old; too soft, too young, etc. So far, "casting" her hasn't worked. Neither the writer nor myself have come up with an actress that could possibly play the role, so every design so far has been from my own head. So far it's felt very limiting.

I was catching up on this week's webcomics and stumbled across this gem on Penny Arcade.

All I can say is that if Ubisoft makes a POTO tactical squad based shooter that's the caliber of their Vegas franchise, I'd play it.
