I lost some footage as it did not save it, and I edited out the sound because of the wind. I like this as the quality looks like a old 8mm movie. One of my friends said he cried when he saw it, he lives in France and is home sick.
I hope you enjoy it. [link]

My life right now is about reflecting before I move forward again.
I have been scanning the last 13 years of my work, and it has been very time consuming.
Digitally archiving everything that is in my opinion some of my best works. So far I have scanned about 1000 images but only saved about half of them about 28 gigs of files. I am about half way though, maybe less. I forgot about many of the shoots and have been surprised by how much I like the images still, some even more now than before.
Before I left Milan to live in Hamburg I destroyed thousands and thousands of negatives only keeping the best of the best. I do not regret this choice at all as I spent weeks going though all of my negatives with a fine tooth comb and only destroyed those images that I felt nothing for.
When I moved back to Canada I bought a really great scanner ( Epson V700 ) and I am really taking my time with the scans and the quality is truly amazing , I still have some CD's with high res dedicated film scans from some of the best labs in Europe and quality in some cases is better from the flatbed Epson. Weird but true, of course they are almost all 6x7 negs so that helps. The reason I did not get a dedicated film scanner and bought a flatbed is because of all the magazine jobs I did and some large format work , I need to archive these as well. I have also redone my website which I will launch in the new year.
I will include many of these newly rediscovered images on there in a new section of the site. I still have to retouch all final images after I scan them, phew...., so much to do.
I am enjoying myself , the technical aspect of pulling the most from the neg from the scanning is boring no doubt, but at the same time quite exciting. I still have many thousands of negatives from before I moved to Europe that I will have to archive digitally as well at some point. I can't wait to share with you these images that have never been digitized before.

Well if you do , then you might be a tad jealous of me today.
I went to a car show in Victoria, B.C., Canada today,
and it was the largest show of its kind, ever anywhere.
This year is the 75 anniversary of the 1932 Ford coupe ( the Deuce coupe )
and there was 400 of them at the inner harbour in Victoria. It was the most of this particular car at one time ever in the same place and all the car junkies said it may never happen again, cool. The cars came from all over the world, but most were west coast cars.
There was over 700 Vintage cars there in total, so there was some other beauties there as well.
I made some photos of some of the cars ( about 99 images ) and here is the link.
[link]
Just clean shots of the cars ,nothing fancy. It was very hard to do even that as there was at least 10,000 people around and getting a clean shot was not easy. Half the cars that I wanted to shoot I could not because they were so beautiful and were always surrounded by people.
I hope you enjoy the photos.

I have been told that Vancouver grows by 100,000 people a year.
I have lived in Paris , Milan, and Hamburg in that order.
and met so many great people, but I am really looking forward to living again in Vancouver, which I am sure is still the most beautiful city in the world.
My ticket is for May 1st.
The last time I visit my home is 7 years ago.
The thing I am looking forward to the most is the nature, seeing the whales , and the bears, the trees and mountains and the ocean again.

Just so you know I have heard almost all of these lies at one time or another. When you hear one of these do not walk away , run away.

Top 10 Lies told to Naive Artists and Designers

by Mark W. Lewis

1 "Do this one cheap (or free) and we'll make it up on the next one."

No reputable business person would first give away their work and time or merchandise on the hope of making it up later. Can you imagine what a plumber would say if you said "come in, provide and install the sink for free and next time we'll make it up when we need a sink." You would be laughed at! Also the likelyhood is that if something important came along, they wouldn't use you.
2 "We never pay a cent until we see the final product."

This is a croc, unless the person is leaving the door open to cheat you out of your pay. Virtually every profession requres a deposit or incremental payment during anything but the smallest project. Once you have a working relationship, you may work out another arrangement with a client. But a new client should not ask you to go beyond an initial meeting and, perhaps some preliminary sketches without pay on the job!
3 "Do this for us and you'll get great exposure! The jobs will just pour in!"

Baloney. Tell a plumber "Install this sink and my friend will see and you'll get lots of business!" Our plumber friend would say "You mean even if I do a good job I have to give my work away to get noticed? Then it isn't worth the notice." Also the guy would likely brag to everyone he knows about how this would normally cost (X) dollars, but brilliant businessman that he is he got if for free! If anyone calls, they'll expect the same or better deal.
4 On looking at sketches or concepts: "Well, we aren't sure if we want to use you yet, but leave your material here so I can talk to my partner/investor/wife/clergy."

You can be sure that 15 minutes after you leave he will be on the phone to other designers, now with concepts in hand, asking for price quotes. When you call back you will be informed that your prices were too high and Joe Blow Design/Illustration will be doing the job. Why shouldn't they be cheaper? You just gave them hours of free consulting work! Until you have a deal, LEAVE NOTHING CREATIVE at the clients office.
5 "Well, the job isn't CANCELLED, just delayed. Keep the account open and we'll continue in a month or two."

Ummm, probably not. If something is hot, then not, it could be dead. It would be a mistake to *not* bill for work performed at this point and then let the chips fall where they may! Call in two months and someone else may be in that job. And guess what? They don't know you at all.....
6 "Contract? We don't need no stinking contact! Aren't we friends?"

Yes, we are, until something goes wrong or is misunderstood, then you are the jerk in the suit and I am that idiot designer, then the contract is essential. That is, unless one doesn't care about being paid. Any reputable business uses paperwork to define relationships and you should too.
7 "Send me a bill after the work goes to press."

Why wait for an irrelevant deadline to send an invoice? You stand behind your work, right? You are honest, right? Why would you feel bound to this deadline? Once you deliver the work and it is accepted, BILL IT. This point may just be a delaying tactic so the job goes through the printer prior to any question of your being paid. If the guy waits for the job to be printed, and you do changes as necessary, then he can stiff you and not take a chance that he'll have to pay someone else for changes.
8 "The last guy did it for XXX dollars."

That is irrelevant. If the last guy was so good they wouldn't be talking to you, now would they? And what that guy charged means nothing to you, really. People who charge too little for their time go out of business (or self-destruct financially, or change occupations) and then someone else has to step in. Set a fair price and stick to it.
9 "Our budget is XXX dollars, firm."

Amazing, isn't it? This guy goes out to buy a car, and what, knows exactly what he is going to spend before even looking or researching? Not likely. A certain amount of work costs a certain amount of money. If they have less money (and you *can*) do less work and still take the job. But make sure they understand that you are doing less work if you take less money that you originally estimated. Give fewer comps, simplify, let them go elsewhere for services (like films) etc.
10 "We are having financial problems. Give us the work, we'll make some money and we'll pay you. Simple."

Yeah, except when the money comes, you can expect that you will be pretty low on the list to be paid. If someone reaches the point where they admit that the company is in trouble, then they are probably much...

Growing up in Canada , one thing I can tell you is that Canadians could give a rats ass about football, soccer , footie, or what ever you want to call it. We play hockey and we are very good at it. We are like the Brazilians of Hockey, if you will.
Plus we invented the game. Of course in the summer our national game is Lacrosse [link] , Canada's national summer sport, which I have never played. I played soccer once as a kid and had my leg broken because some other kid had steel toed soccer shoes, it was the first time I had broken a bone, and the last time I played the game. I have broken four more bones since then. Anyways now I live in Germany and today it is fucking nuts here. After living in Italy as long as I have I am use to how crazy people can be during important games and world cup, but to see the normally reserved Germans going nuts is very weird. Also yesterday there was right by my house was a neo nazi demonstration. not the first time I have seen this here but weird just the same. There are so many police around I did not see the nazis.
( I had as a young man had to fight some neo nazis because they had crashed a friend of mine party and would not be polite and started being dicks )
Just as well, as there are always so many anti-nazis that if the police were not there they would have killed the nazis.
The Germans are a funny lot , but I really do like them even though some of them sometimes can be a bit anal. Even though I don´t care about the game I am really happy for the Germans as it is not exactly a tourist meca and this way the rest of the world can see how wonderful of a country it is and how nice the people can be.

*begin rant*
The DeviantArt sandbox, where some people who have a ' next to there name thinks it implies that they are above everyone else.
Last night I was surfing around DA and ended up at
#seniors The Official Channel for Senior Members of deviantART
I normally don't go into chat rooms but I saw this stamp thing ( it was a link ) and was wondering what it was so i clicked on it, I look at the names in the chat room and saw someone I knew and had not interacted with in a long time and thought how nice I can say hello to him, anyways I lurked for a bit first and saw he was not saying anything so I asked him directly if he was on and, no answer from him , but out of the blue one of the "seniors" insults me, and when I asked what she meant by what she said, she then told me to " shut up "
then kicked me from the channel. It was one of the most child like things I have seen from a "senior" and I was not having any of it, so I reconnect to the chat room and called her on it, telling her that she was not acting like a "senior" but like a six year old child. Doing this I knew that all the other "seniors" would gather around her to protect her and most likely I would get kicked again, and in fact I was warned more or less to that effect, but I felt that what she did was completely wrong as I did nothing to warrant abuse from her in the first place , so I decided to make a point. I went to all the "seniors" who were in the chat room and opened tabs in my browser to their pages to see who they were and to see how long they have been here on DA. Out of the 10 or so "seniors" that were in this chat room only one had been here longer on DeviantArt than me. It was incredible to see this, so I stated the fact that I had been here longer that most of them and cut and pasted
from her Deviousness Award some lines that said to the effect of how lovely and helpful she is is to all fellow Deviants , from the newbies to the old and decrepit Deviants ( like myself ) What a load of crap.
Anyways this effectively shut her up and not a peep was heard from her the rest of the time I was in the chat room, and some of her fellow chatters started to side with me. Battle won. God I can not stand people like this.
I looked at her gallery and her favourites, and not to sound mean or elite myself , but there was nothing of artistic value , really. I know there are loads of people on DA who are not artists and that is totally fine by me , we all have to start somewhere , and some people who are not arists just want to part of a artist community, but to be unjustly insulted and treated rudely by someone who is not a artist, and is a "senior" that has not been here as long as I have been , well it is just wrong.
So the question I put out is how can someone who is not a artist and who is not lovely and helpful to all fellow Deviants , from the newbies to the old and decrepit Deviants, become a "senior" on DeviantArt ? Want my guess , ass kissing the right people .
now don't get me wrong the concept of DeviantArt "seniors" is not a bad idea , some people deserve it , but like anything human / political, some people do not.
