I managed to stag General Manager of Photoservices here on campus, so now I am in charge of all photographs for the school newspaper, yearbook, and more. Power overwhelming.

Even with that, I have not had enough time for photography, hope I can remedy that this summer.

Move in day is on friday. The second year of college approaches. I am really excited. I get to live in a suite with friends, on the same floor as my girlfriend. Yay! Packing is a pain, in fact I am hiding from it right now. Those who know me personally know I have WAYY! to much stuff. And a lot of that has to go to school. And I leave monday morn, driving up and visiting family on the way.

I am now on LiveJournal. You can find me here: [link]
I have been told by many that journalling is good for you. I also figure it will help my friends from back home stay up to date on what is happening with my life at college.

I am pretty excited for classes. I have two computer science classes, e-commerce, where I get to work on practical problems that I am interested it, and software engineering, a distributed programming class that focuses as much on documentation and procedure as code itself. Both classes are with my advisor, who I love, and Software engineering is with my girlfriend and another friend of mine. Then I have circuitry, which should be tons of fun. I am going to reprogram my Marvin the paranoid android figure so that he can speak. Then I have german. I am ambivalent about that one. Hey, 3 out of 4 ain't bad.

I last wrote about the on campus art contests. Well, here are the results:
Over 90 entries were submitted. I submitted 5 (most was 8, many 1). When we arrived for the reception, five entries were covered (1st - 3rd, there must be a tie). The runners up were on display, with "Fog, Bench, and Tree" [link] in 7th and "Autumnal Leaf" [link] in 4th. For these I will getting some gift certificates. They had sitting out the non-winning submissions. There were some pretty cool concepts, but some people had shot themselves in the foot by submitting 4 almost identical versions of a photo. In amongnst those was "The Devil Inside" [link] which I had retitled "The Spirit Within" for PCness. A did a simple inventory, and could not locate two of my prints. That must mean they are behind the covered easels, getting 3rd, 2nd, or 1st.
And so after people looked around, introductions started, and the runners up were introduced (including my two earlier mentioned pieces). Then the three tied third place photos were unveiled. None of them were mine. It was only a question of which got first, and which got second. "London Eye Fairylights" [link] came in 2nd. And my favorite, "Enchanted" [link] came in first! For each of those I won $100. That will help cover some of the printer supplies cost. Damn, this printer is addictive, and costing me a fair bit.
So I am fairly jazzed, and am looking for some other venues to compete.

Back story: We had two contests going on simultaneously here at school, that you could dual enter in. They wanted 2d works, one for a rotating gallery in one of the academic building, and the other for a perment gallery in one of the residences. This is part of why I bought my new large format printer. After days of work with the new printer, learning the ins and outs of how it handles things. I then had about 9 good large prints, and had a really hard time selecting which ones to enter. After asking a ton of people, which did not help, I had a set I thought I would enter. I then got my hand on two large sheets of a velvet matte paper, right before the deadline, and I had a print in mind for the matte texture. So I printed a test print, seemed great, and then tweaked, and got an awesome final. Everyone loved it. So now I was in an even harder spot than before. But anyways, that last print was fog, bench, and tree [link] that won for the rotating gallery, and they have yet to judge for the other one. If you are around, come to the reception at 5pm on thurs, in Jones Hall, here at UPS, to see my entry, and others...

I just got an Epson R1800 printer... It has a 13" carriage, so it can do 13"x19" sheets or roll paper 13" wide and like 32ft long. Also, important to me, is that it has pigment inks, so the prints will last ~200years instead of 20. I have to do a lot of fiddling to get the settings just right, so I have yet to make a BIG print. It does a great job on Glossy Paper, but I have yet to get great results on Semigloss, my fav.
Still, should be fun.
Also, for you UPS folks, if there is something big you want to print, I can do it if you pay for costs (About $7 for a 13x19 print).

Alcohol is dangerous. Makes me ineffective. So am now cramming two large assignments in a small period of time. The new semester is interesting. I dropped MATH122, which is calc 2, because the prof made no sense. He seemed to be a good teacher, but I could just not hear him, sort of like the teacher in the Peanuts (Woh Wah Woh Wah). I now have three classes, which are easy, except that they still kick my ass, as they are things I am not good at. Art 101, 2d, is hard as I am not good at drawing (this is why I photograph...). My English class is hard, because I do not write analytical essays well.
Oh well, I hope I become more productive in everything over the next few weeks, as getting back into the swing of things after break has been hard.

Hopefully with the end of the football season the people who promised they would purchase photos at the end of the season will, and I might make some money out of the maybe hundreds of hours I have spent getting my sports biz going. Passive-aggressive bullshit...
<\lyrics>
And now I lay me down to sleep. Doom has come to us, the US. I feel that we are truly on the road to hell. I fear how the known world will end. Will it be Nuclear War, disease, global war, global warming, or what. All of these Bush, and more unfortunately, more than 50% of Americans, may become responsible for. Bush is not the problem. Bush is symptomatic of America itself. Hate, fear-mongering, and aggression have replaced hope, peace, and reason.
I am debating weather to leave the country and go to somewhere like NZ, or to stay, and fight. I fear for draft, and more, I fear that this is what America wants.
It may be awhile till I am able to post any art, as I want to make something that represents my feelings, but as a landscape/found photo artist, I have a hard time creating it. I have my ideas though.

I uploaded two new photos today, of a different type. I included a shot from a zoo I went to today ( i guess yesterday), that I really liked. I got alot of good shots there. I also posted up a shot from a soccer game at school on sat. I actually spend most of my photographic time on campus lately shooting sports, as I have a small biz selling prints to the players. I want to showcase a host of images, I just have been enjoying putting up some of my art image archive.
I find it disturbing how my two most recent favs are so, well, bloody. They are awesome shots, it just disturbs me how both of those really grabbed me more than anything else around.
I wanted to be able to fall asleep early, so I refrained from having any caffeenie today, and it is working. This is the first time I have been tired at midnight in a long time. However, I also have a bad headache, even after napercin (aleeve). My headache period now seems to be down to less than 20 hours, compared to my previously measured 36hrs.
I am impressed how the system grabs exif data from my photos. I reuploaded some to maintain the exif headers. I like the presentation format here, and my photos look great, but I am worried about image theft. It seems a fine line between a good looking image, and feeling safe about my image. At this point I shall trust the community.
