Hello! I'm still alive, beleive it or not. It's been crazy crazy crazy!

The show over the summer went pretty well. There was a nice turn out on the reception day! i got mentioned in some news papers and the Wyandotte news paper did a very nice article and featured my homie Jason Rohler, who was interpreting the paintings to music with an electric piano wired with all sorts of electrical what nots. I was working late nights all the way up to the reception so when it was done, i had to mellow out a bit. Find some other interests to shift back down to a normal gear. and now i am back at school. I'm working my ass off for my last semester here at Kendall college of art and design. My portfolio classes (which to the fine arts person or even maybe most lay people) are my thesis work. I'm illustrating as many music albums as possible and in my other portfolio class im doing editorial illustratons. these are a hell of a lot funner than i was expecting them to be. so yea yea yea.....

It's busy man. right from the get go, im working.

my editorial illustrations have been channeled into the more military aspects of articles. Over the summer i found out that there was an army base in North Carolina that had been giving it's soldiers, it's soldier's families and the surrounding community polluted water for 3 DECADES. The water was polluted with TCE and PCE, a degreaser and a dry cleaning agent, from a dry cleaning facility located on the base. An estimate says that about 200,000 marines passed through that base in those thirty years drinking and bathing in carcinogenic water. This does not account for the families that lived on the base or the civilian community surrounding the base. Rather appauling i think. So i did an illustration about that as my second in the series i will be presenting to the faculty in December.

My next strike is that incident that occured at the university of Florida. The STUDENT who asked Kerry some questions and ended up getting tazered in the auditorium. oh yea, first amendment rights? hmmm.... so yea. i feel empowered to support some stories that the country should probably be aware of.

I'm also thinking about tackling the JENA 6 situation too. e e e e e...

i've been very lazy about posting art works. i apologize. maybe someday soon when i've got more time than it took me to write this update.

if you interested in seeing work from the show this summer check out [link] it does not include by any means, all of the work but a selected few.

to all those interested, the show went way beyond expectations. it was awesome and amazing and fun as all hell. i don't know how but us 12 no name artists managed to keep the joint hoppin' downtown for four straight hours. new faces every 20 minutes. it was great despite the fact that i came down with bronchitis and a sinus infection the two days before!

made some connections. met a couple sweet artists and i am supposed to be doing some graphics for this awesome dude named Cam, who makes his own long boards which will be exciting! i also got invited to do a DIY artist's market at Grand Valley's campus this spring. so thats fun.

as far as whats going on, personal work has slowed almost to hault. I've got a heavy class load this semester thanks to my "excellent" scheduling skills.

but i am illustrating a short story a friend of mine, Jake Rebh, wrote called "Movie Earth". It's awesome! it's about a really messed up dude named jack redfry who lost his legs to frostbite in antarctica on a quest for answers and was born with only one eye. His spirit, before jack was born, asked god why people live they way they do so god made a movie of the history of earth to explain why we are the way we are but that still didn't help his spirit understand, so god sent the spirit down to earth as jack redfry who lived with out a care, knowing all his descisions were already made for him. it's crazy sweet with alot of visuals. so ill be posting some of the illustrations up as i get them done.

also during the downtime of my sickness, Hannah introduced me to the productivity plague known only as "Katamari Damacy" for playstation 2. Im hooked and this game is part of the reason im so behind already. damn...

i ate at Jimmy John's (thanx mego for the hook ups!) yesterday and i read this story that i've read many a times before but it was ultimately inspirational yesterday and i tracked it down.

At the edge of the sea, in a quaint Mexican village, a small boat returns to port. An American happens to be standing there, and he compliments the Mexican fisher- man on the quality of his fish and asks him how long it took him to catch them. "No very long" replies the Mexican.
"Then why don't you stay out there longer, and catch more of them?" asks the American. The Mexican replies that he has more than enough fish to satisfy the needs of his family. The American then asks; "What do you do with the rest of your time?" The Mexican shrugs; "I fish a little, I play with my children, take a siesta with my lovely wife: most evenings I go to the village to see my friends; we drink some beer, play the guitar; I have an interesting, happy life."
The American interrupts him; "I have an MBA from Harvard, and I want to help you. You should start by fishing for longer. With the extra income you could buy a bigger boat. Then, using the money you generate from that boat you could buy another, and another until you have a large fleet. Instead of selling your fish to a middle-man, you could sell your fish directly to a factory for a better price -perhaps you could even open up your own factory. Then you could leave this tiny village for Mexico City, Los Angeles - maybe even New York, and from there you could control all your business affairs." The Mexican asks; "How much time would this take?" "About 20 or 30 years" replies the American. "And after that?"
"Well," laughs the American, "That's when it becomes really interesting; you take your Company public on the Stock Exchange and make millions of dollars!" "Millions of dollars? And after that?"
"After that, you can retire to a small seaside town, buy a nice boat and spend your days fishing, playing with your grandchildren; relaxing with your wife, visiting friends, drink some beer and play guitar."

I had an awefully disturbing dream last night.

I dreamt that all the sudden we realized that the earth wouldn't be able to support life on it in about 30 more years. everyone paniced. the government stepped in and people were getting displaced from their homes and everyone in michigan was getting pushed to the south eastern side of the mitten. everyone was in poor health, coughing and in rags. President Bush decided to take a stand against this and to solve this problem he decided to round up all the youth of the world into these huge soccer feilds that were caged in. in these soccer prisons he organized soccer tournaments in which he supplied both teams of children with guns while they played soccer. needless to say instead of slide tackling the ball away from one another or playing the sport like it was supposed to be the children would just lazily shoot each other. now the really sad thing was that the parents and other people around the world were completely blind to this. for some reason they thought it was weird that all the children had to play soccer but they were very supportive of thier children competeing internationally and showing up each other. they didn't see the injury and death the game caused to each other's sons and daughters. the winners saw another day and lived the rest of the day in pointless triumph. no one could see what was going on. the sky was an endless horrible orange and gray that touched the ground and made you feel claustrophobic. As the numbers thened out, my mother told me that they would eventually kill all the kids of the world. the president's plan was to kill off a whole generation to prolong the inevitable. as we were being transported from field to field on a school bus, i saw many of my friends maimed and battered. there was nothing fun about this brand of soccer we were playing. it was horrible and such a bassackward way of doing things. it was like we were all in this pseudo concentration camp under the veil of a huge distraction such as the impedeing end of the world and soccer. the inhabitants of earth fell for it like cattle following the judas cow into the slaughter. i woke up in tears when my sister was killed.

what scares me the most is that people are like cattle in some ways. we scare easily, we're ignorant and selfish at times.

I got into a gallery yesterday!
i now have two peices hanging in Eye Candy. Eye Candy is a hand made goods store in the yuppie bohemian side of grand rapids. people make clothes to sell, glass beads, home made odd musical instruments, just all sorts of neat little creative hand made doo dads. the chick that runs the place is really cool, i think im getting alittle ripped off right now but im strangely ok with it, for now. I just have my fingers crossed that the two peices will sell. i'm selling The Enlightening and Moving on Up. she said for me to bring anything else in that i wanted and she'd look at them.
it was all so weird and sudden. a freind of mine and i were talking in my photo class about going to taco bell after class was over. so his fiance picked us up and took us out to taco bell. while at taco bell dustin was like o i was talking your art up the other day. i was like oh thanks and stuff and he's like she wants to see it, she owns a gallery. it worked out she that she could see me on friday and i walked in with a couple peices i pulled off my walls and boom, she loved them and now they're on her walls.
this would be the perfect place to try and sell some of my toys...

right now my roomate [link] and i got word that our school has the ability for us to make vinyl toys, so we jumped at the chance. no one else in our school is making toys so we thought we'd explore that possibility.

Im making the inital peice out of sculpy with which im being pretty anal about. the toy is based off the yellow character from the enlightening peice. i think zac said he'd check into what we need to get to make the molds today! very very exciting!

i also kind of started a 4-6 peice acrylic series on "things that can go wrong". basically im using anatomy references and the usual characters. im possibly alittle paranoid about health lately for some reason, nothing serious just going through one of those paranoid stages about nothing.

other than that, new peices have been few and far between. i've somehow slipped and im now behind in my schooling. i've gotta type a five page paper thats late anyways, i've got a three page paper due in a class that i dont remember, i've got about 4 hours of painting for illustration painting to do and like 6 hours in the photo lab on top of regular homework that all needs to be due at different times throughout this week. o but when this stress passes there's going to be a huge purge of creative shit coming out of me. can't wait.
