finally got my zenit B photos. it had a roll of 36 exposures in it but unfortunately only 11 of them worked out - everything else was exposed to light from that awful camera opening up randomly. i didn't think it opened enough for light to get in. sucks ass. yeah i don't like it. it's huge and heavy, i've been carrying it around for months, all for nothing. gonna start using my fujica again. too bad it's in another country.

using digital lately though has made me realize just how nice film is. i don't know what it is about digital. i'm sure some people's styles work well with digital cameras. from my experience though, photos with digital cameras seem so gray and flat even with my carl zeiss lens. also the good quality of the photos are so lacking in style and personality. colors are so much nicer with film cameras and occasionally it can surprise you too. what do you think?

also got an m42 lens to canon adaptor that will hopefully work on my eos 400d. the lens that came with my canon is relatively crap so i'm hoping that i will be able to take decent digital photos with my awesome lenses that came with my fujica and zenit. i don't think i'll permanently be switching to digital, but lets put the analog vs digital debate aside and accept that digital is just far more practical and economical most of the time. :P

classes are starting soon again and the summer is coming to a close. thankfully my university was too disorganized and has postponed class for another week because they couldn't do the scheduling properly. woo hoo! will try to enjoy the last week to the fullest.

revamped a big part of my gallery. nothing huge, just got rid of the borders on a lot of my pictures. i don't know why but i had the impression that a big fat border actually made my pictures look better. i was wrong.

FOUR PAPERS TO WRITE this week. three out of those four that i consider to be absolute bullshit as well. and all i've achieved today (besides updating my journal now) is scanning and uploading my freshly developed pictures, from a disposable camera and my new agfa optima sensor. i won't be uploading them all here at once so check out my flickr for all of them.

and after this i'm going to clean up.

and then i'm going to cook.

and then MAYBE, just maybe, i'll get to work. whoop!

i bought a kodak duaflex II at a market the other day! it looks super. and i've decided to just use 35 mm film on my non-35-mm-film cameras. the film is just too expensive and rare to come by.

also, the city utrecht (netherlands) just wasn't the place for me. i felt very strange and foreign there, which is weird because i actually am dutch. for the meantime, i'm back in belgium living with my mom again, doing an internship at my old high school, ISB. i'll be doing "communications"- meaning i can help with the website, with pictures, the yearbook, etc .. so it will still be mildly entertaining.

sorry for the lack of updates recently. when i was in holland i was too busy being miserable, and now i'm just too busy sorting out my life :P. i'll be updating more soon; the internship is only twice a week, so once i've sorted out applications and all that bull, then i'll have more time to take pictures, and harass my boyfriend who is so busy with his study but still makes the time to hang out with me during the week AND the weekends :]. i'm hoping to start over in february, if i get accepted. otherwise, i guess i'll have to wait til september, in which case i'll be taking a whole gap year.

anyway, i'm excited. i hope things work out.

1. i always get extremely emotionally attached to people, but usually just one person at a time. unless they're totally reliable, that's not exactly good for my health, but i still prefer it.

2. i've only been grounded once in my high school years. it was because of me ending up embarrassingly drunk, and i have vague memories of me crying to a random security guy at the metro station at the end of the night (i hope it was a security guy? i only remember a reflective orange jacket..), and other things i'd rather not mention. :P

3. i laugh at farting noises, and words like "poop" and "doodie".

4. even though i used to just find it funny, i've recently found myself accidentally using the insult "poophead" in all seriousness..

5. i genuinely enjoy traveling, not as in seeing different places, but just the act of getting there. especially if it's a long bus or train ride. i guess i just like having an excuse to space out to the music on my mp3 player.

6. i wish i was a great drawer, but i'm too lazy to put in effort to draw every day.

7. many people have misinterpreted me for being "serious" or "uptight". it's not true :P

8. this is one of my last days of my super long summer holiday. it's the best summer i've ever had. if i could ask for anything it would be to add another month or two before school starts. though i'll be able to come back home and see the people i need to see whenever i want, i'm so so sad that it's over :(

i put a bunch of my old crap in scraps. i'm so glad i've improved xD

so the summer is coming to an end. on the 28th of august i have to go camping with my fellow dutch graphic design and illustration students (i'm not doing illustration though), none of whom i know. i'm required to go there, so that's pretty lame .. but i'll make the best out of it. hopefully some beer will enhance my dutch skills.

all in all i had a pretty good summer. probably the funnest as of yet. i went through a lot of big changes as well, and am glad to be leaving my crappy, american-influenced high school.

i went to denmark this summer. it was so isolated and peaceful. we basically slept during the majority of every day and would eventually gather up the energy to sizzle on the beach for a few hours in the afternoon. check out my actionsampler pictures- they're awesome. lomography is perfect for summer photos.

]]> ~kitleen actionsampler! http://kitleen.deviantart.com/journal/13850870/ http://kitleen.deviantart.com/journal/13850870/ Mon, 23 Jul 2007 18:58:20 PDT so my actionsampler finally came in the mail today! it is the cheapest camera i've ever had - in terms of price AND quality. not to mention the most simplistic- only slightly more complicated than a disposable camera. all you can really do with it is load the film, take some shots with one button, and unload the film .. there's really not much you can do that affects the image except maybe the type of film you use for it. almost the entire thing is made out of plastic! i guess that makes it more durable though .. i'm so in love with this thing. i am really looking forward to what kinds of pictures are gonna result from it. will upload pictures when my roll is done.

also, i uploaded some new stuff. i'd REALLY appreciate some comments! :]
