Just realized it's been over a year since I updated my journal on here, and a substantially long amount of time since I submitted any artwork too. How about that.

Anyway, I have a large backlog of art that I COULD upload here so I'll probably get around to doing that sooner or later if I'm not too lazy. If I don't upload it here, I plan on starting a new public art blog soon so I'll probably chuck 'em up there. Again, if I'm not too lazy. I obviously have been and will continue to check my messages here either way.

Also, I've been meaning to mention this for a while because I keep getting PMs about it for some reason, but uh, unless you're a close friend I don't do requests. I especially don't do them if the request involves something I'm against drawing, so anyone who had fantasized about this gallery showcasing Lucas's adventures in inflation had best abandon hope

Finally, even though I was just making fun of it a few days ago, I have a Twitter account now. The screen name is "fromutopia" if you want to add me, and I'll probably update it whenever I upload some art somewhere.

I am still working on it, and will try to update it pretty regularly. I'm feeling pretty motivated, so I'm going to do my best to continue it.

I made it for two reasons. First, I wanted to practice more with comics, and it's less stressful to do that with a stupid fancomic because it is, after all, a stupid fancomic. Not much to lose there, and plenty of room to experiment.

Second, I always liked that Super Mario Adventures comic Nintendo Power ran, and I always wanted to see a sequel to it, but we never got it. So I wanted to make something similar (in fact as you'll see on some upcoming pages, I took some locations and characters directly from that comic), because if you can't find something, then you should make it yourself.

It does actually have a storyline, and Mario himself is very much the main character even though he thusfar has not appeared, so it won't just be a series of random jokes, though I'm not taking it too seriously and there will hopefully be lots of things to make people laugh.

It also needs a title, but I find that naming stuff is easier once you've finished it or are at least further along, so for now it'll just remain "that Mario comic".

There's some other things I want to mention about it but that'd be getting into SPOILER TERRITORY (oh NO!) so I'll save it for now. Until then, I hope you enjoy it.

So my friend sent me one of the most awesomely creative Christmas presents and it just arrived today.

I knew he had a reputation for doing unusual gifts that had a lot of thought put into them, but holy crap I wasn't expecting what he sent me. He knows I'm a fan of the Castlevania video games so he sent me what basically amounts to a vampire killer kit in an old wooden box filled with straw. The whole package was made to look ancient.

Inside the box:

- A wooden cross
- A smaller cross pin
- Two cloves of garlic
- Holy water in a bottle sealed with red wax and a wooden cap, along with a certificate on some old parchment wrapped with twine. The certificate says it's really holy water from the Jordan River.
- A WHIP. HAHA. Yes, a full sized whip.
-An old-looking envelope sealed with red wax, with some torn parchment inside, on the parchment it says "What a horrible night to have a curse" in gothic font with red ink
-A vampire killer's handbook by "Van Helsing" with lots of sketches and info on how to kill vampires, etc.

This just has to be one of the most creative packages I've gotten. Seriously the amount of thought he put into this just makes me really appreciative. What awesome friends I have.

As a bonus he included a little 8-bit figure of Simon Belmont from the NES CV game, and a Han Solo PSP case.

So Christmas came and went, and I got among other things Zack & Wiki and Phoenix Wright 3. Truly a CAPCOM CHRISTMAS (or it would have been if Sakurai had also announced Megaman for Brawl, but I guess his heart is just three sizes too small).

Zack and Wiki is really fun so far, I enjoy it quite a bit. The puzzles are really clever. It's a point and click adventure game with a neat art style. Also there's this little undead musician guy who makes you play classic Capcom songs, like the Wily Castle music from Mega Man 2 (!!)

So yeah it's a really good game and I recommend it if you like point/click stuff or just enjoy a good puzzle. I'm up to the second area of the game and there's already been some challenging stuff so far.

I don't care how they do it.

I'm playing through Twilight Princess again for no particular reason. I like the game, but was always a little disappointed that it was so similar to Ocarina of Time, and I think I hyped myself on it so much before it came out that it couldn't have possibly lived up to my expectations anyway. So I'm playing through it again, and trying to get all the Pieces of Heart this time, even though that "sidequest" is completely pointless and the game is easy as pie.

I really hope the next Zelda game has more stuff to do outside of dungeons...if they had the sidequests from Majora's Mask + plenty of dungeons that would rock. Always thought it was neat how everyone in MM had their own little schedule to follow.

In retrospect, Twilight Princess is the better game, but I really liked how fresh Wind Waker felt. The nautical atmosphere was sweet and I actually liked the graphics, even if Link himself was a bit ugly. But the creature designs and fluid animation were excellent.

I also hope the next Zelda game has orchestrated music, or at least music that sounds orchestrated. This tinny MIDI stuff just isn't cutting it, and music can add a lot to the atmosphere of a game. I beat Okami the night before I got TP and going from that game's relatively epic orchestral score to TP's MIDIs was a little bit of a let down.

Anyway, still an awesome game that I enjoyed enough to play through more than once. And I will definitely be getting Phantom Hourglass, and drawing artwork for it, when it is released. Comes out next month

I also beat Metroid Prime 3 recently but don't have much to say about it at the moment. However: it is enjoyable. And not as linear as previews made it seem like it would be. Still prefer Samus going at it alone though, didn't care much for the Galactic Federation stuff. Great game though, very good controls and music too.

Except I don't give a damn about doing any of it. o.o
Regardless, I'm going to the casino sometime soon since I can actually get in now. I doubt I'll spend very much money, I'm mainly going to mooch off their food bar. Lobster tail, all manner of sweets, chocolate, you name it, yummy.
Man, I didn't have a cake this year. I guess birthdays get less fanfare the older you get.

I hated that frigging game at first, but now I love it soooo much.

Oh yeah, and hi. I haven't died. I'm still l urking in the shadows, and will pounce when you least expect it!

---COMIC PROGRESS---

The comic is now entitled "Planetoid Penguins", which was going to be the name of another comic, but since this one is tied so very very closely to that one, I'm just giving both stories/comics the same name. I have several more pages done.

The remainder of the comic will be, God willing, in color, and I'm going to try to have it out by the end of June or July. You'll be able to purchase the comic if you're so inclined, as I intend to self publish it. Because I think it'd be mighty arrogant of me to give you the first few pages and force you to pay for the rest though, the comic will be available on the web as well.

This might seem counter productive to some, but I honestly don't foresee making a large amount of money from it at this time anyway. Those of you who would prefer having an actual comic in your hands to read can buy it, and the rest of you can just read it online. The published version will have a few extra things, like some pinart and stuff, and if anyone actually buys it then you can mail it to me and I'll sign it/do a sketch/whatever if you wish.

Do I even know where the storyline is going? Yes indeed, and it will tie directly into a very large project I've been working on for 10+ years now. By this point, all my original stuff is connected, which makes starting out on ANY project relating to them immensely intimidating and complicated. How to explain the mythos of this world without coming across as ridiculous and overly wordy? How to avoid confusing people? How to tackle character development, and the development of the world itself? These are all issues I have to figure out when making these comics, which is why it takes me so damn long. They're scary for me. I can't mess 'em up.

In the meantime thanks very much to the people who have enjoyed the comic so far. It really helps with the motivation...and a considerable amount of it is required being as the project is getting so complicated. Sure you might think it's a simple penguin story, but there's a lot more to it than that as I've explained above.

Wow, I started this entry about ToS and ended up rambling about my comic project. I promise I'll try to be around more often in the coming months, provided my depression allows me. Pleasant something, people.

I'm sorry about not posting stuff lately. I've been on an extended hiatus from the internet, due to a variety of factors I wish not to discuss here.

This hiatus may or may not continue, I'm not sure.

In any event, the lack of a computer and internet access has allowed me to recapture that sense of drawing I had in school - that is, I draw more because there quite simply isn't anything else to do.

As a result I have a TON of drawings, some of which are pretty elaborate, and I also finally got off my lazy ass and started that comic. It's amazing the things boredom will drive you to do. And who knew boredom could result in productivity?

Whether or not I continue my hiatus, I will continue to pop on here every now and then to post some comic pages. I know you're all just sitting on the edge of your seat waiting to find out what happens next! Or perhaps it is because your seat is too small.

Oh and in other news, if Nintendo doesn't release Mother 3 over here, I'm going to do something drastic like complain in my journal.

I figured it was time I did something like this, because I hardly ever use this journal to give actual updates on my life. I've been meaning to do this for a while, so here's some info on this gallery along with some questions that I am (sometimes) asked. And some questions that I just plain made up. And I'm not going to distinguish between the two at all!

Q: Will you draw [insert thing here]?

Very rarely, though sometimes I'm open to suggestion. It's not that I'm trying to be a jerk but I have to actually be interested in what I'm drawing and when people ask me to draw a character or something I don't care about, I can't do it. Also I'm usually busy drawing the stuff I want to draw.

So long story short, I rarely do requests but you can feel free to suggest stuff anyway. Sometimes I take it under consideration. And you shouldn't feel bad about suggesting stuff since I like drawing things people will enjoy looking at. But I also have to please myself!

Q: Why do you draw so much fanart anyway. DON'T YOU HAVE ANY CREATIVITY, BOY?

As a matter of fact I do, and I have a whole lot of original characters, as well as several different stories and stuff I've been working on for 10+ years now. I don't know why I do a lot of fanart, but I draw my own stuff when I feel like it and I'm always thinking about it or working on ideas. I just get these obsessions where I'll only want to draw a certain thing and that prevents me from doing a lot of original stuff. Sorry.

Will you do an art trade with me?

Very rarely, it's usually because I'm too busy drawing other things and I don't trust myself to get your trade done on time. It's easier for me to just not do art trades than it is for me to offer them, because I'm afraid I'd get several and wouldn't have time and end up making people angry.

Will you do a commission?

Nobody's ever asked me for one, and I find the idea of someone actually wanting to pay for my stuff hilarious, but if you're willing to do so then sure. Send me a note.

WHY DO YOU DRAW SO MCUH OLD STFF

Because old stuff ROCKS! I'm one of those people who routinely gripe about how movies and videogames just ain't what they useterbe. I'm an old man already. I also have a bad habit of drawing really obscure things or stuff that absolutely nobody cares about. It's all good, because obscure things need more love, and so do 80s/early 90s crap. Those were the best times for videogamers. The age of the NES, SNES, and the Gameboy...the Gameboy Pocket...I feel sorry for you young 'uns who didn't get to experience that stuff.

YOU NEVER COMMENT

Sorry! Sorry! This is actually something I really need to work on, I keep forgetting to check my devwatch sometimes or I'll be distracted doing other things. If you really want me to see something then contact me with a link. Also know that even if I don't comment I really appreciate everyone who watches me and comments on my stuff, and I don't want any of you to think I'm just blatantly ignoring all of you. Sometimes I will also look at art but be too lazy to comment. It's a bad habit of mine.

When is Hypnotist for Hire going to be finished?? I WAS ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT AWAITING THE NO DOUBT BRILLIANT PLOT TWISTS.

I do plan to finish that comic...sometime, I just need to get up the motivation.

What about that Kirby comic. When's THAT gonna be finished, HMM?

I'd have to regain my Kirby hype first, which prolly won't be until the new Kirby Gamecube game comes out. Dedede love!

MORE COMICS PLZ

I really do need to work on more. I just have few ideas at the moment, and comics tend to be seen in my eyes as some massive undertaking. I really need to just relax and treat them as a fun project. I'd get more work done that way. I've been thinking about a comic lately, but have no real ideas at the time.

Sorry for the lack of art lately. This week has been just about as shit as you can get, except for getting ML2 which is an awesome game.

Wednesday my aunt aunt died from a sudden onset of internal bleeding. So yeah, I've been wanting to draw, but I'm too depressed to. Mainly because of my aunt dying and because of some other non-related things. I'll try to have some ML2 art or something up soon.

This week's just not been a very good one for me, and my aunt dying so suddenly just topped it off. I actually haven't seen her in a while, but I always used to go to her house for Christmas. It just makes me feel bad that I'll never see her again, and it was such an awful way to go too.

Also, my birthday is this Sunday, but I doubt I'll be in much of a celebratory mood as my aunt's funeral is the day before. We'll see, maybe I can cheer up some by then. It feels weird using this journal for actual updates on my life instead of the random nonsense I usually fill it with.

*points to icon*

Every year around Halloween I have a new version of this pumpkin icon. Those of you really familiar with my creations will also recognize this jack-o-lantern as the face of Count Jackula, quite possibly one of my coolest (and most ridiculously named) creations.

I randomly doodled this pumpkin design a few years ago, with one slashed-up looking eye. Ever since I've been re-drawing it every year for Halloween, and as mentioned above it also came to be the face of Count Jackula (who I will also be re-drawing soon for Halloween).

I'm really in the Halloween spirit this year for some reason. Usually I get into the spirit at the oddest times...once I got into it around Christmas, my avatar on message boards that year was the grim reaper with a Santa hat.

It's not the trick or treating or anything that I look forward to, really. It's just the time of year. I like the fall colors, and the pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns, and the apple cider. Ohgod I love apple cider. And I just really like this time of year. I love the spookiness and the colors and the general atmosphere.

I want to do something special for Halloween this year. Not sure what though. I also want to try and make a real version of the Jackula pumpkin.

oh my dakjsjkfas that was the best. phonecall. EVER.

I called Cammi at about 1 and we talked for several hours (and the convo almost never died, and when it did i'd fill it up by going kamekamekamekamek heh heh heh).

That had to be the most memorable phone call ever. While on the phone, a squirrel came to the bird feeder.

"I'm gonna scare him," says I, so I ran to the window and screamed HOCUS POCUS at the top of my lungs, the squirrel ran off and we cracked up for several seconds.

we joked about karry some more, and other inside jokey stuff, and there was a lot of kamekamekamekamekamek and daydreaming and stuff n junk n stuff, then I randomly went back into the kitchen and Mr. Squirrel was back.

So I did the same thing again.

"Little does the squirrel know what's coming," I said. And that was true. If only I knew how true.

Me: *runs up to window and yells hocus pocus and taps the glass, only this time THE GLASS SHATTERS INTO A MILLION PIECES

That has to be THE NUMBER 1 STUPID THING I HAVE EVER DONE IN MY LIFE. THE GLASS IS GONE XD

"Well...at least the squirrel got thoroughly owned," I said.

There wasn't really anything I could do about it, so after panicking and saying "oh SHIT" like a hundred times and washing the blood off my hand (got two small cuts on the thumb, one on the knuckle, and a tiny one on the wrist - people are gonna think I'm a suicidal mutilator or something) we were able to get distracted from that little catastrophe enough to GASP SING A DUET OMG

That was awesome I must say, even though I can't sing. We did Pollyanna and some other ones, then I did a bit of the Flying Man song. All Mother songs of course. XD And we did the 8 Melodies, only I changed the "la la la la la" part to "ra ra ra ra ra" since it kinda sounds like that anyway.

Such a magic phonecall. This is why I need to call more often XD

This day is great so far!

The glass man says he can repair the glass fine, so I dunno how much it's going to cost or anything but I don't think it's that bad.

..it was worth it

CHECK IT OUT, FOLKS. KLOBBER SINGS, KLOBBER DANCES, AND TO TOP IT ALL OFF KLOBBER BREAKS WINDOWS AND TERRIFIES SQUIRRELS.
