Very little of recent has actually come from my pencil tip. I see the inside of four walls so much I sometimes think I should be a prisoner. Then I step outside and enjoy such a beautiful world. You've no idea how big of a deal it is for me to see the sky. Now, I can see some of what I like about being outside, indoors. I hope you all get to enjoy it just as much.

With the knowledge in hand of what it takes to make a movie I still say that a better movie could have been made than what is out now. Though this is a fun romp and visually compelling eye candy the storytelling is a condensed version of cliff notes of the original, it is worth seeing on the big screen for the fun, but only if you don't expect much. This toned down for "families" movie gives you very little story and reminds me more of "90210" than of a Harry Potter story.

Okay, yes I'm a fan of the books, but that's because they're well written and extremely well thought out. Heck, a vanishing cabinet is a very important artifact throughout the entire series of books. We see it the "Chamber of Secrets" when it's "destroyed by Peeves," and when its twin is touched upon in Borgin and Burkes. We even see it pop up in "Order of the Phoenix" and its purpose finally revealed in "Half Blood Prince." Rowling is an absolute master at giving us information and props we see early on and that we'd see later that were part of the story.

However, the movies have been fairly disappointing. All of them have failed to be as consistent with her storytelling as only Hollywood can be. Let's face it, with that many directors and with different script writers how can it be consistent? It would like asking James Bond movies to be a coherent continuity. But how much intelligence does it take to realize the overall means and method of story telling so that you can make a complete story? Obviously, more that I give a lot of people credit for.

The worst part of watching this film, is expecting more and being delivered very, very much less. With writing you can say a lot by alluding to things outside of the action on the screen. It means giving more dialog, but it can be done. Most of the time too it takes very little time to insert it into the action. However cutting out something that is completely intricate for the story and for the actions that follow that are in the film, is more a reason to strike against the MPAA* than it is anything else. We ended up with an ending that did not make sense for the actions we see, much less for what the characters' behaviors have been previously.

It has been fun seeing Harry on the screen again, but disappointing when it comes to an ending that makes sense. Also, really don't expect much when the quality of the storytelling is concerned. It would be nice for there to be more to this film and could have been, but overall, you're better off waiting for the used video section.

*Why do I say strike against the MPAA? I say because of them, they forced the people making the film to comply to archaic rules and regulations to get a rating that the execs felt would be more family friendly. The MPAA takes a movie and forces changes on it so that the movie can get a rating that conforms to the conservative, blind and foolish personal prejudices of the people rating it and not to a set standard of rules and regulations. They do not accurately represent the society it's supposed to represent. The Harry Potter movies I've seen so far don't rate much further than a G or PG rating, because they're not overly violent, sexual or anything else. It's strange they can rate the movie "The Passion of the Christ" R and yet more people would take the family to see that than Harry Potter. I saw just as many kids and families in that theater as I did in Harry today.

May I also point out that the entire Harry Potter series is a story for kids and adolescence? The people buying the books are mothers and fathers. The people reading them is the entire family. Why? Why in the world would a movie be changed to make it more kid friendly when it's already kid friendly to begin with? Because the people buying the tickets are the same people reading the books and the MPAA doesn't think that they can visually take seeing what they read in the book? Because, some executives think that just because it's rated PG and not PG-13 you won't take the kids?

As a society we've got to know that the ratings are a guide line and not a rule. It's an industry imposed standard to keep the government from coming in and to get rid of the blatant biases of things like the Catholic League of Decency. However the system is ruled by a few conservative people. Please see "This Film is Not Yet Rated" for more information. Please just treat the rating system as a way of seeing what's in the film, not as whether the movie is family friendly or not.

Okay, having heard about Watchmen since it came out as a comic and having read the graphic novel, and currently re-reading it I can't really stay silent on the movie. I just read an article [link] that didn't really say anything in their critique. So let me say something as someone that has an idea.

First let me say a few things about some changes that have happened since this comic was made. If this movie had been rated when I was a kid, it might have gotten a R or a PG-13 to which I would have been bombarded with adds for it in everything I watch having been an underage male at the time and still have gone to seen it. I know a lot has changed in rating movies since then. (Heck, Top Gun originally had a PG rating.) But let me get something out that I haven't found anyone talking about, and that is the audience for this comic/movie. Obviously this movie is made for the fans. Also, the movie is a good translation for the comic. However the audience that it's intended for won't be able to see it without their parents or parents permission until it comes out on DVD and BR. Heck how can we even know how good of a translation was made until we see this movie in these formats because they won't even release the long version to art house theaters? Anyway, the story was intended for young minds. It was made to make them think hard about the heroes they read about.

These stories were originally made to make people think about what a hero really is. If that is the sole purpose of the movie, then it seems to be doing what Watchmen does best. Especially if I look at all of the scuttlebutt. But what it comes down to is that Watchmen is a mature movie for young people, just like the comic. But our society is holding back on letting them get a hold of it because, being rated R it's too dangerous for them to buy until they can get the money for it themselves. (Amazing how commercialism walks around some people's restrictions)

Let me say also growing up I dealt with all kinds of stuff on screen that you just don't get in theaters for younger audiences anymore. Violence was considered so much a norm of movies. (For example Punisher: War Zone would have been a typical R movie of the era and just about any teenage kid would've seen it.) Sex was also a normal part of the movies. Films did reflect that and for it they got criticized and berated and now have a noose around their neck in the form of the MPAA current rating system. After all we all know that the MPAA is completely unbiased. (For those who think otherwise, please see "This Film is Not Yet Rated" if you haven't already.) The point is that whenever I see someone bring up violence or sex in a movie as being excessive, I see it as they can't think of anything else they can comment on because they're such stinking prudes.

So for those that say the sex and violence is too much in these movies, I say to get their head out of their tails and take a look at the world. I say this movie is more honest and more reflective than so many we've seen in years. I say this movie is beautiful and truly a masterpiece of film making. It's a good thing that so many people are picking sides with this movie because if ever there was a story that told us to pick sides, this was it. I'd say this is the Brokeback Mountains of the superhero movies in the sense that it breaks down the way people see superheros and puts them in another light.

Now is this movie a commercial success? Only time will tell, but nationally so far it's made about $87,000,000 out of a budget that is $120,000,000. Now add about $27,000,000 from the UK and it's not doing too bad for a March release. Is it going to be a block buster? Doubtfull, because so many people want to see the extended cut so they can make a final decision. Also, DVD/BR sales and rentals are a far way off. So, what will happen is up in the air.

If you did like the books, then you'll enjoy this movie. If you loved the books, then you won't be satisfied and probably won't until you see the directors cut. If you're someone that wants more meat and potatoes with your superhero movies, then this is the movie for you, because this movie asks, "What would I be like as a superhero?" and answers it with an honest and disturbing answer. If you love the kind of stories you had as a teenager in the eighties, this movie is for you. However, if you think that superheroes are bull and for children, you don't know how we need them so we can believe that we can be better and the lengths that some will go to do so, and this movie is not for you. If you're a stone-age bible thumper then you don't need to be seeing this movie because you can't take what's going on in the world around you and why the heck are you even...

I wasn't able to find my Transformers sources to make the Transformer wallpapers that I want, but when I do, they'll be up here.

So the winner is:

[link]
DAPHNE!

The lovely lady will be fully rendered and made into an image for the next set of uploads. And to keep me motivated, I'm holding another contest for the images I just uploaded to the scraps section. This time around it has to be the images that has the most comments from viewers. The one with the most comments will become a fully rendered pic for the main Gallery. These include the CGI images.

As a person on the lower end of the ladder, I can tell you that the republicans have made my life horrible. It's harder to find a job. It's harder to keep up with the bills and it's harder to enjoy my life. We're getting flack from all different directions. And as far as advance, and improving position in life, all I've been able to do get move down the ladder.

Then I look at the track record for those dimwit known as politicians and republicans. Most of them are so stinking self serving I've come to despise most of them. The world works when there's balance. There is no balance with those republicans, there is slightly more with democrats. Heck, my state alone has seen a raise at a rate of $.20 an hour, from $3.65 to $6.40 in some places. Now you tell me, that republicans haven't let big business do what ever the flack it wants?

I used to love this country. I used to believe all the stuff about opportunity, fairness, equality, and justice. I have seen that the only thing this country has come to stand for is "If you have the gold, you make the rules." Frankly, I can't even stand to go to the doctor for fear that I'm going to have to spend a fortune in medical bills. Tell me what's right about that? I want to go someplace where you actually do not have to worry about going to a doctor. I want to go someplace where I don't have to worry about making enough money to put my kids through college. I want to go some place where I don't have worry about the land being so polluted, you can't drink from the natural springs. I want a place where it's part of the culture to take a public bus, underground train, or even a bike on a regular basis. I want someplace where I know the prisons help reform prisoners, and help the readjust to society and not make them think the only safe or best way to live is inside a prison. I want someplace where the standard qualifying aspect for approval for new medicine is that it has to work better than what's on the market, not where it's "better than nothing." I want someplace that gives as much opportunity to the poor as it does the rich. I want a world where we don't have to worry so much about sex crimes, because we've got healthy, acceptable releases for everyone's predilections. I want someplace that actually values education and thinks it's a priority in the nation. You know someplace that thinks it has got to have everyone educated in order to be competitive in the world. Heck, I'd love to live in a country where we're actually concerned about doing our part to help reduce the use of natural resources, and living in such a manner as to cause as little harm to the environment as possible.

Very little of what I've said I want, is actually wanted by any politician. Less of it is wanted by most people in this country. We're a country where the market supports the highest possible rate the market can stand. For those of us on the bottom, that's usually more than we can afford. Now true, we do have it better than a third world nation, but that's not saying much. We used to have it better than anywhere in the world. We do so little that will help us in the long run, it's depressing. Heck what does it say that we don't even effect repairs on an out of date system of levies until after thousands of people die. It's not a matter of black and white, it's a matter of rich vs. poor and the rich are winning. If we were a capitalist society, then the government would be competing in every market as well. That is the only way that we could truly offer the "lowest possible price" that the market could take. Heck, Government wouldn't even have to produce as long as they could refurbish. But business doesn't want that because they want to operate on a 15% profit range instead of 1-6% profit range.

Now until we have more balance in this country I'm going to have to vote democrat because with them, at least these changes are possible. With republicans, they're going to be dictated by religion and business and that is not the kind of politician I want to deal with.

Okay, I know life's tough and all that, but what ever happened to getting any sort of fair deal? Example, here I am, bidding on a broken Jetfire. (Yeah, yeah, yeah I know he's the coolest, the most awesome blah, blah, blah.) That's why everyone wants him, but what ever the h happened to being able to just get one? All I want is a simple, complete Jetfire. I've wanted one since I was like eight. I've only ever seen one complete in person. It was going for $147 at a convention ten years ago. There's no way I had that kind of money, and someone came right in front of me and bought without a second care. I'm getting sick of this. Do people, especially those who snipe, know what it's like to have a dream so long that it hurts? Do people, again those who wait till the last second to smash your dreams, care what it would mean to have this part of your childhood completed and dealt with? Does it even matter to them that the person they're bidding against is dirt poor and that this is the closest they've ever come to owning a Jetfire, that they could build and make with their own two hands? In the end maybe it doesn't matter. But for those A$$H0/3Z that wait to the last second to snipe something from somebody that has struggled, fought and hurt themselves trying to achieve a dream, I hope you all have everything that means anything to you taken away!

If any of you have an extra Jetfire, or bits from one and want to send, I'll send you a drawing or reasonable amount of cash for it. I'd take a hundred extra pieces, a thousand broken Jetfires, just for the chance to build one, complete. I don't care if I get a box that is really rough shape, and missing the plastic, I don't care if the styrofoam has got pieces missing, just so long as I'm able to say I finally own a Jetfire.

*For those of you interested, the sniper's name is KRAZY COMIX. For those of you who are sick and tired of people doing this, make certain to write him on My Space and let him know what you think of jerks like that.*

BTW the contest is still on to see which pic will be finished to a complete image and brought here as an update. Here are the entries:
[link]
[link]
[link]
[link]
[link]
[link]

So far Daphne is in the lead, but we still have Hermione and Lara running, tied at second place.

1. Rules are guidelines. Pay attention or break them to your satisfaction, but be prepared for the consequences.
2. The only thing in high school that is really important is grades. They don't have to be A's but they shouldn't be C's.
3. Don't do anything you're even remotely uncomfortable with. You're still at the stage where you're learning the person you're going to be for the rest of you life.
4. Break down have fun or cry as you need to. Just remember it's easier to breakdown with friends or in your room. People will also perceive you to be stronger that way.
5. Find out your strengths now. If you're good at art then pursue it. The same for any other strength. Don't be afraid to be a geek about it. Devour anything you can find and learn on the subject. It'll open more doors for you than you could imagine.
6. Always have a back-up plan. Crap is going to happen; it's going to happen a lot. There's nothing you can do to stop it. Same thing goes to Good things as well.
7. Learn to take a compliment.
8. Always have a back-up for your back-up.
9. For everything bad that happens there will also be good. It's how you approach it that will make into a disaster or an opportunity.
10. Trust few people in authority. People in power will want to stay in power and few will give up without being forced.
11. DON'T BELIEVE TELEVISION WHEN IT COMES TO WHAT THEY'RE SELLING. Advertising is there to sell an ideal and lifestyle that most people can't afford. Trust your own tastes. It's okay to stand out. That doesn't mean you have to do what everyone else does that says, I'm not part of the norm either.
12. Never, ever, ever, ever get a credit card. It's the biggest form of legal theft in the U.S. right now.
13. Travel. Go places. See things. Learn as many languages as you can. You'll have more fun that way.
14. Try new foods at least once. How do you know you like it otherwise.
15. Watch your money, but also realize that it's there to do as you want it to.
16. Never be afraid to admit you're wrong. Never be afraid of making a mistake. Never be afraid to apologize. People will respect more for that than you know.
17. Never believe what others tell you what you are. Trust yourself. You are you and no one has any power to make you feel bad, but yourself. They can embarrass you, but that's nothing. Most people that put you down really are jealous and afraid of you.
18. Learn to play chess and you'll learn how to maneuver life. Chess teaches you how to think and what others are thinking based on the moves they make. You'll see that just about everyone else is just as insecure and scared as you are.
19. Everyone is guilty of something. At least from five and up.
20. Religion is a choice. If it brings you down, it's not religion, it's control.

That's all I can think of now. I come back with more when I remember them.

Boogie Nights is driving me NUTZ! I'm already late on the paper, but I can't get it out. It doesn't help that my teacher basically ruined the enjoyment of the movie for me either. I'm concentrating on two scenes, "On the Lookout" and "Rehad Jackson." I think they're best done scenes in the entire move. Include the "The Donut Shop" and you've got a great conclusion to act 2, in a basic descent into darkness plot. I know what I want to say about the lighting, sound, acting, and cinematography, but I can't find the words!

So, what can I say that redeems this movie for me? Well, how about Burt's performance? He was brilliant. He is a "good father." He lights up the movie. At the same time, I can see why he fired his manager, almost. I think it also shows that Burt Reynolds, James Garner and Clint Eastwood need to work together. I don't know what the hell the movie would be about, but wow, would it be good. Maybe about three men having to bring up their children's teenage son. Or a Western like the Wild Bunch. Hell you could put them in a horror movie and it would be brilliant. Anyway...

So back to me ranting about Boogie Nights... Overall, it's a fair movie. Visually it's wonderful, but beyond that it's a basic movie. It's about a man putting himself into the gutter and then everything works out in the end. Nothing really special. It takes place in during '70s and '80s porn era. If there's a deeper meaning it's about how video is changing everything in the movie industry. It makes me think of how we're taught that video is "Tape" and not film and how only film is "Film." Film as I define it is - a visual presentation, on either tape or film, intended to tell a full and complete story, usually in a single to trilogy format, and usually involving as much artistic ability as possible.

Anyway, I'm trying to figure this all out and it makes little sense...

Okay, I know I've got be committed in order to want to get in front of a camera and play a character before I've even woken up. Not to mention one of the worst allergy attacks I've had in a while. Gods I love film stuff.

Drawing too for that matter. I was up till 2A.M. last night working on an outline for a Environment piece I working on for study. This is my fourth one so far and I'm learning a lot. One specifically about how obsessive cinematographers have got to be. A good cinematographer has so much thought and preperation as well as composition in mind it's rather mind boggling. Thank Gods I only want to be a director. (And if you think that's easy, you've got another thing coming.) But anyway, I'll have photos of the works up hopefully by the end of the semester, because they're too big for my scanner.

I've lost my car, had my privacy violated, my independence lost, lost my internship, still not gotten the images from my groups, behind in shooting and we need to work on editing for another project, plus I'm stepping in as cameraman on another shot as well as behind in drawing. I'm miserable, tired, worn, frazzled and generally put out. I've had about as much as I can take and I want to cry, but can't. I haven't been able to shed tears but once in eight years... Overall, not a good three days.

Heath Ledger was an extremely talented and enjoyable actor to watch. He was someone I was looking forward to working with. As someone who is working towards making it to Hollywood behind the camera, I wanted to work with someone this talented. He will be missed a great deal. Here's to a modern day James Dean.

Came across an interesting statement at:
[link]

I thought it was worth sharing. Seems this bloke was somewhat contraversial in his time. Still is I believe. People should check out Mr. Robert Green Ingersoll

After Visiting the Tomb of Napoleon

Robert G. Ingersoll

A little while ago I stood by the grave of Napoleon, a magnificient tomb of gilt and gold, fit almost for a dead deity, and gazed upon the sarcophagus of black Egyptian marble where rests at last the ashes of the restless man. I leaned over the balustrade and thought about the career of the greatest soldier of the modern world.

I saw him walking upon the banks of the Seine contemplating suicide; I saw him at Toulon; I saw him putting down the mob in the streets of Paris; I saw him at the head of the army of Italy; I saw him crossing the bridge at Lodi with the tricolor in his hand; I saw him in Egypt in the shadows of the pyramids; I saw him conquer the Alps and mingle the eagle of France with the eagles of the crags. I saw him at Marengo, at Ulm and Austerlitz. I saw him in Russia, where the infantry of the snow and the cavalry of the wild blast scattered his legions like winter's withered leaves. I saw him at Leipsic in defeat and disaster, driven by a million bayonets back upon Paris, clutched like a wild beast, banished to Elba. I saw him escape and retake an Empire by the force of his genius. I saw him upon the frightful field of Waterloo, when chance and fate combined to wreck the fortunes of their former king. And I saw him at St. Helena, with his hands crossed behind him, gazing out upon the sad and solemn sea.

I thought of the orphans and widows he had made; of the tears that had been shed for his glory and of the only woman who had ever loved him pushed from his heart by the cold hand of ambition.

And I said I would rather have been a French peasant and worn wooden shoes. I would rather have lived in a hut with a vine growing over the door and the grapes growing purple in the kisses of the autumn sun. I would rather have been that poor peasant with my loving wife by my side, knitting as the day died out of the sky, with my children upon my knee and their arms about me. I would rather have been that man and gone down to the tongueless silence of the dreamless dust than to have been that imperial impersonation of force and murder known as Napoleon the Great.

And so I would ten thousand times.

Critics make a living making up people's mind for them. Just because they didn't feel something for the movie doesn't mean you won't. The movies, like a lot of things are something that people must experience for themselves in order to judge. Each movie is as individual as the people that make it. So, if anybody writes anything about a movie, good or bad, take it with a grain of salt and then see what you think about it. After all, it's your mind, make it up yourself.

SUPERMAN RETURNS NOT WORTH THE TRIP

If this was a movie about someone finding that he’s not alone, then it fails. If it is a movie about a rekindled relationship, then it fails. If it’s an action adventure, thrill ride, then it succeeds.

But it’s biggest problem is the fact that none of the characters make sense as characters. If we are to follow the analogy that the movie presents us that Superman is a god among men, then we lack the necessary range of emotion that endures those characters to us. Though Brandon Routh is a great choice for the character, we really don’t get to see much in the way of his range. Instead what we see is the always heroic Superman portrayed.

Kevin Spacey’s portrayal of Lex Luthor holds all the menace and power and believability of someone who is mortal and able to go head to head with the god amongst men.

The biggest drawback of the film is the lack of suspense or danger that a would have person doubting that Superman would be able to save them or not. There’s never any doubt that he can. This is a problem because it is that suspense, that sense of danger, the wonder if Superman is going to be able to save them or not and if so, at what cost. Singer fails to bring that sense or reality to the movie. Even at the movies most perilous little doubt is left in the audience’s mind as to what the outcome will be.

If Singer was trying to bring a twist or a surprise to the movie, then even that was a dismal failure. That supposed aspect was as if watching a made for TV movie in which people already knew the story and was practically a give away since the previews. But this has come to be expect from Singer with X-men and X-men 2; neither of these movies had definitive development of characters nor of the stories which they were based. A suggestion to Singer, go read Shakespeare, Dickens or at least Terry Pratchett if you want some idea as to how a character is supposed to develop as well as a story and stop reading only comic books and movie scripts. You’re doing no one any benefit without a better understanding of storytelling.. Maybe you can make it up to us in a DVD special director’s cut edition.

Frankly, it's something I'm highly against, because where do you stop. I mean that in the most literal of senses. Once you start saying, "oh, that's not allowed," or "oh, that's wrong," you're looking at a subjective statement.

What I'm getting at is why the hell is deviant art censoring us to begin with? I mean most of the nudes here on my site are from life drawings. I have a couple that are erotic in nature, also. But why the hell can't they allow us to put up what ever the heck we want? Is there anyplace out there that can? I like to draw all sorts of different things. I like to create all sorts of things. So why can't I put the adult images up here that I want? Besides, isn't this place called "Deviant Art?" To me that doesn't sound as though it's too deviant if you can't be a deviant with the art. It sounds more along the lines of "Conformist art."

But I'm here anyway, because it's a great way to get my pages seen. It's a great way to something out there. And it's free. So, here I am, not knowing how to display it any better, and going with what I can afford...Go poor artists...

Something that I enjoy about art, is the fact that it so calming for me. When I work on it, especially when I've completed it, it's so relaxing. It's comfortable. It is refreshing and makes me think about deep things. Everything I do influences it. And as a true calling, it influences everything I do. There's nothing I enjoy more. But it's strange, I don't spend near the amount of time I know I should on it, but I still live my life around it.

This being said, it makes me wonder if other people feel the same. Do others feel as I do about things in their life? Do others love what they do as much or at least have something in their life they love as much? Should people have something in their life they love as much? Simple questions. But are the answers as simple? Most likely not.

Been away for a while and been working on some stuff. Not art, but something else. Making a dream of mine come true. I'm trying to make open a comic shop. It's not as easy as I thought. I'm worried that I'm not going to be able to complete it. In some ways it feels as though it may be one of those things that I start, but never finish. This is not something that I want to do that with. If I do this, it's going to change everything about my life. My friend's to. I've got a friend that is coming with me on it. So, this shop idea is no longer about me, but about someone else. Someone I respect, and care about as a friend. I'm nervous I'll let him down. I don't want to do that. To him or myself. I pray that whatever power is there, that has been driving my life at times, that they help me complete this. I know I can do it. I know more about the buisness than many of the others that have tried to open one. I know more about than even I thought at times. And it's not the only thing I want to do with my life. I want to publish my "You Know You're in Trouble When..." comic strip. I want to write my books and my comics. I want to teach.

Well, here's hoping I can make the dreams I have come true.
